tim boetsch

“… double jab, right straight, left liver kick, game over (laughs).”
– Tim Boetsch — who has stepped up (again) to fill-in for the injured Stephan Bonnar — tells AdCombat.com about the ideal result in his upcoming bout with Matt Hamill at UFC Fight Night 13 at the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colo. Boetsch was not tested on the ground against David Heath in his victorious Octagon debut at UFC 81: “Breaking Point” earlier this month because he put on a punishing stand-up clinic en route to a sensational technical knockout. Regardless, the part-time Miletich Fighting Systems (MFS) fighter is confident in the interview that his wrestling is actually “better” than the collegiate champion’s. I can’t wait to see this.

His last fight was awesome, even though I have never been impressed with Heath. Besides, anyone who uses the Conan soundtrack for their entrance song has to be a bad @$$. haha

I have naver seen anyone get knocked out from being faceplanted!!! that was badass, I know Heath isnt the most talented fighter but to be thrown to the ground like an infant? Thats hard to do to anyone. It will be fun to see how this one goes

If it turns to a wrestling match, I think Hamill will have the advantage. But if Hamill hasn’t improved on his standup and Boetsch does keep it standing… I don’t know. I haven’t really seen much of Boetsch. So it is hard to say, but his standup definitely didn’t look weak and predictable against Heath.

I hope Matt pulls it off. He seems like a good guy w/ a lot of heart. Tim looks great too. If “fireworks” start flying, it’s all Tim. Ground to Hamill. Go Matt!!!

Rob Emerson was the closest I have seen to that but he tapped V Gray Maynard.

Still good to see again though but I think Hamill may be too strong for Boetsch to throw around. Stand up to Boetsch, Ground to Hamill

I want Tim to win so bad. He understands its not all about winning, its about picking up fans with the way you win. Hopefully Hamill does well enough to keep it respectable tho cause hes a good guy.

Bas Rutten probably loves Boetsh. Bas was one of the biggest fan’s of liver shots, and not enough UFC fighters aim for the Liver. I saw many more fight ending Liver shots in Pride then I do in the UFC. For example Cro Cop ending the Hearing fight with a kick to the liver.

If Hamil tries to stand he will get caught. He has a hard jab, but he over extends it and leaves it out there too long, a good striker can take advantage of that and pick him apart.

I am also not so sure of how much of a punch Hamil can take. We will see, I am happy that this fight will be aired.

I think you might be mistaken he does however have a strong wrestling background however I don’t think he’ll out wrestle Hamil. Hamil knows how to use what he has to work with I think this is gonna be a tough fight no matter who the winner is.

Boetsh just needs to stay on his feet. If his take down defense is good he should be fine. Hamill is a great wrestler but as we saw in his fight with Bisping he could take him down but Bisping could get up. Great style matchup. Cant wait to watch this.

I’ve never seen someone throw so many front kicks as Tim did against David Heath. I think I counted 5 altogether. And I show the slow mo video that mania has up on here to anyone who will watch. But I have faith in Matt, and I think it’s going to be a really really good fight. Can’t wait.

I think that Matt Hamil will win this fight. If it wasn’t for the caveman toss, only a quarter of the people hyping Boestsh would actually be hyping him. He looked sloppy to me. Plus Heath Herring has quickly found himself falling off of the LHW radar. I think that Michael Bisping is actually more of a technical striker than Boetsch, and Hamil had his way with Bisping.

I agree to a point… But Bisbing was being a pussy in that fight… He never really engaged with Hamil, I think Boestch will engage, and if Hamil obliges like he did with Bisbing i think he’s in trouble. But I have not seen much of either fighter so I can’t possibly predict…

But I’ll root for Boestch because he seems way less one dimensional than Hamil and well that’s enough for me, but both guys are seriously game so should be a good match either way

Matt should work on his footwork and wrestling. Avoid making it a brawl (like Houston and Jardine) and setup your shots with leg kicks. When on the ground, GET TO A MORE DOMINATE POSITION! I’ve only been watching the smaller guys (LW and WW) passing the guard. Just b/c LHW guys are bigger doesn’t mean they can’t have better bjj. See Mir to learn some if need be.

On the flipside; Tim needs to make it a barroom brawl. You have to take a chance of getting taken down if he wants to get close enough to Matt to hit him and knock him out.

GOOD LUCK GUYS!!!

I thought he was back in Ohio…. I really dont know though. He needs a good striking coach really bad. You cant have a Jab as your best strike.

Boetsch has a very strong wrestling background, 4X State Champion Wrestling, H.S. All-American, 4 year varsity wrestler at LHU (NCAA Div 1). This could very well turn out to be a wrestling stalemate, with Hamill shooting and Boetsch stuffing every time. In between, Boetsch will bitch-slap Hamill around enough to get the UD.

I don’t know man, using common opponents(Bisbing) it looked as if Hamill’s wrestling was easily superiour to Rashad Evans, dont underestimate Hamill’s wrestling.

I give it to Hamill, just overpowers him I say.

I believe Boetsch’s main background is jeet kune do…Bruce Lee style. I think he’ll fair well against Hamill and I was extremely impressed with his last fight against Heath. I’ve never thought much of Heath but it was still an impressive performance on his feet with the straight kicks and body kicks…both of those are not used by many fighters but are extremely effective when placed correctly. I think Boetsch takes this. Hamill has improved his stand up but his jabs and straight punches are pretty slow and he leaves himself open when he throws a lot of those. The key question will be what can Boetsch do off his back because he will get taken down…Hamill’s wrestling is way too good for him to stuff all of the attempts that Hamill is going to go for. It’s going to be a good fight and I’m glad it’s televised…good for Boetsch for stepping up again…makes for a great storyline.

I remember reading about him leaving team punishment to train closer to home for the same reasons a while back. I don’t know if he opened his own gym though. I think if Hamill were in the right training camp that he could really accelerate his game. He’s still young though and has plenty of time for improvement but I think that some time spent at top notch camp would really help in his development. I’m sure he has some good coaches but he really needs to be training with some of the best in the business to refine some of the glaring holes in his game…wrestling and decent hands won’t get you far in the big leagues.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I think if Boetsh can stuff the takedowns and be a little more sharp with his striking then he was against heath he could KO hamil. I am also an instant fan of Boetsh, but we all need to keep in mind that we havent seen much of him at all, and that Hamil is a tough guy….Personally, I will be rooting for Boetsh,it will be interesting to see how this fight unfolds.

Late last week, I read somewhere that there would be another UFN event in May, but then I never saw anything about it again. Does anyone know anything about this. Has the UFC ever had UFN events in back to back months?

I think i could be a good fight who knows maybe almost like a Bonnar vs, Griffin kind of fight, sort of a crazy brawl, (cause Tim has decent stand-up and Hamill is a great wrestler) only that Hamill is not as experienced or well rounded as neither of those guys.I also think that Hamill can beat Stephan Bonnar if they were to fight just look how Rashad beat him and dominated him just by using his wrestling advantage and Matt is a way better wrestler and stronger than Rashad is. I give the striking and stand up to Boetsch but the wrestling and takedowns to Hamill. Boetsch has to keep it standing but i know he trains in Bruce Lee`s art JKD so he might be very well rounded and maybe can be take him down as well and work from the ground hes a good wrestler too i heard, while Hamill needs to avoid getting caught, keep his hands up and shoot in for the takedown and press him by the fence to get him out of his game if Matts gets him down and is on top he has the advantage.

That is a good point. I think Bisping may have better standup. I couldn’t honestly say this without seeing MB and TB battle, but Boetsch looked to have more strength in his blows and those knees looked pretty devastating.

This is all from memory of course, but Hamill just looks so predictable with his standup. He is always forcasting his jabs and punches. I think if Bisping was in better shape, he might have ducked them better.

This is a fight I’d like to see Tim Boetsch will be a test as to whether Hamill’s sloppy striking game is really that tough to handle.. or is Bisping’s striking game really not as good as we would think… should prove an intersting match-up.

I like Tim Boestch on this one.

Violent Mike, Boestch’s strikes were weak and sloppy? Have you ever trained in boxing, or mma? Even better, have you ever sparred in either? The ability to hit somebody with that many strikes, while they’re moving forwards, backwards, and sideways is very fucking hard to say the least. Bisping is a fat englishman with an ego and a little talent. I say Boestch by ko. Oh, fyi, boestch hung with Vladamir Matyeshenko or however you spell it. You think hamill’s wrestling is at that level? I know it’s not
