Just when an amazing card could not get any better — or complete — the UFC adds a lightweight bout between Nate Diaz (8-2) and Kurt Pellegrino (11-3) to the now infamous UFC Fight Night 13 card at the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colo., on April 2.
MMAmania.com confirmed today that the bout is indeed signed and will make the televised portion of the 11-fight SpikeTV special.
There’s no telling at this point whether or not the FightLinker.com-led email campaign to extend the two-hour telecast to three had any impact on the booking or if another fight previously thought to be broadcast live will get bumped.
Regardless, the fans who pack the venue on this Colorado night are in for one fine show. Here’s the latest card:
Main event:
155 lbs.: Kenny Florian (7-3) vs. Joe Lauzon (16-3)
Main card (televised):
170 lbs.: Karo Parisyan (18-4) vs. Thiago Alves (13-3)
205 lbs.: Matt Hamill (3-1) vs. Tim Boetsch (7-1)
205 lbs.: Houston Alexander (8-2) vs. James Irvin (13-4)
155 lbs.: Nate Diaz (8-2) vs. Kurt Pellegrino (11-3)Under card (may not be broadcast):
155 lbs.: Frank Edgar (8-0) vs. Gray Maynard (4-0)
155 lbs.: Spencer Fisher (20-4) vs. Marcus Aurelio (15-5)
155 lbs.: Din Thomas (20-7) vs. Josh Neer (23-6-1)
155 lbs.: Clay Guida (22-9) vs. Samy Schiavo (10-4)
170 lbs.: George Sotiropoulos (8-2) vs. Roman Mitichyan (5-1)
170 lbs.: Tommy Speer (9-2) vs. Anthony Johnson (4-1)
Diaz and Pellegrino both competed last — and won — on the UFC Fight Night 12 card on January 23, 2008. In fact, Diaz called out “Batman” (among others) after his submission win over Alvin Robinson.
Pellegrino appears up for the challenge after he made quick work of Alberto Crane, pounding out the Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist in the second round via technical knockout.
This is a fantastic match up with two fighters who share similar strengths. Both have respectable stand up and are experienced on the ground. The wrestling edge, however, has to go to Pellegrino.
Will that be enough? Diaz has submitted his last three opponents and will look to make it four under the Hermes Franca-trained Pellegrino. It won’t be easy.
Nice fight … and surprise.

Now this is a FIGHT!If Nate can get past Batman, then he is ready to mix it up with the top of the weight class. This will be a very tough fight for Diaz, but I think he may be able to pull it off.
Diaz has to be the underdog…right?
awesome card, too bad theres a lot of fights that wont be shown
yes pretty big underdog if you ask me, but it will be a good fight, and I definately give him a good chance of winning
This is a great card with something for EVERYONE. Fights that have KO potential & fights that could go 3 entertaining rounds.
Really disapointed that it wont be shown on TV. Will it be released on DVD or can I only watch it through UFC website?
iheard that dana suggested to spike officials about using 3 hrs instead of 2, and that there is a petition going around as well. i hope it happens! what else does spike have to show its millionth rerun of csi or manswers. btw i like diaz by 3rd rnd sub.
YAYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!! UFC Fight Night 13 Will Be a Three-Hour Broadcast
11 fights, what a great card they have to air at least 6 fights or so and make it into a 3 hour slugfest,
I’d pay 40$ to see all 9 fights. Awesome card for Spike TV, its a shame that we won’t see all of them.
i think that diaz is really making his mark on the 155 pound division! he has a really good chance at winning this fight!!!!! however batman took a beating until winning his last fight so he can take abuse but can he take diaz ground game? i say diaz via submission round one!
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this card is better than most of the PPV cards last year, and that’s not a complaint at all. The PPV events were mostly excellent. But this Spike TV freebie is so off the chain! Crazy, crazy stuff.
clay guida on an undercard. wow…
That guy is soooo exciting to watch…and hes on a dark bout. just wow.
I am thrilled to hear that this fight will be televised.
11 fights on the same card, has to be some kind of UFC record. I dont ever recall there being 11 fights on any card.
It isn’t yet official that it will be televised for 3 hours…..right?
Props to Nate for not being babied like Mike Bisping and actually calling out for tough fights. I would love to see Nate Diaz vs. Mac Danzig….that would be very interesting
Curiosity: Mac Danzig vs. Nate Diaz…..who wins?

it is official! according to junkie
Great fightcard especially for being FREE on TV. Hope that it will be extended to 3 hours this time around.
Diaz is on his way to the top. I think he’ll submit Kurt. It should be a good one!
wow diaz aint been babied like the other tuf fighters
Fing A!
I just read on another site that it will be a 3 hour broadcast and that spike will make that announcement sometime this week.
the Bloggers have Been Heard!!!!!!!!!!
Diaz wins by jamming his thumb into the hole in Batman’s lower lip.

Thats Harsh, and a tad bit Graphic…..but I LOVE it!
You know whats a great fight thats being talked about on other blogs…. Nick Diaz vs. Huerta, who would win?…. Of course this fight wont happen, but it made for an interesting debate.
GREAT bill. Can’t wait.
I really like Diaz, he’s got a great attitude and loads of potential
Kurt Pellegrino is my favorite lightweight fighter behind BJ. He is going to give Nate his first loss in the UFC, mark my words.

Yeah I just read it also. How great is this? April 2nd will be an amazing day. We get 3 free hours of an awesome UFC card, followed by an hour of the TUF 7 debut episode which fill feature Rampage and Forrest as well as a bunch of fights, probably at the very least, 3 fights will be aired on the 1st episode of TUF 7.
What a wonderful wednesday night Aril 2nd will be. In total 4 hours of UFC. Doesnt get any better then this!
This is a sick UFN and by far the best one they’ve had to date. I’m glad to hear that it will be 3 hours long. Hopefully we’ll get to see some of the undercards because there are some really great matchups. I’d really like to see the returns of both Din Thomas and Josh Neer. Also, having guys like Fischer, Edgar, and Guida on an undercard of any event is a sin. I wish I could be in attendance for this one. I’d like to see Kenny take out Lauzon and then maybe take on Huerta or possibly Edgar or maybe even get a title shot against Penn if he beats Sherk. Those would be great matchups.
Diaz by submission!
WOW. What a FIGHT NIGHT!
Please all the diehards and please, Mr. White, give us 3-hours!!!!!
I love this division the little guys are always really exciting to watch, I think Nate will put an impressive show but my money is on Kurt (if i had money). I pumped about this card I just hope I get to see it all.
Oh I really like to see Manny Gamburyan on this card too against not sure but same caliper as Kurt.
That would be awsome
i really wish they’d show the spencer fisher fight, i love to watch him fight, he’s improved so much over the years.
dana please bring back nick so the diaz brothers can rock the ufc
nick is top 5 and nate is close to top 10 wit a win over batman he would be top 10

Chuckisoverrated? But Nick Diaz is top five at 170 coming off of a loss to KJ Noons?

Hopefully SPIKE smartens up and starts releasing UFN events on DVD. Like Duh already…they should have been doing this.
My thoughts of the results:
Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon = Lauzon by Sub in 3R
Karo Parisyan vs. Thiago Alves = Alves by KO in 2R
Matt Hamill vs. Tim Boetsch = Boetsch by KO in 2R
Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin = Alexander by KO in R1
Nate Diaz vs. Kurt Pellegrino = Diaz by Sub in R1
Frank Edgar vs. Gray Maynard = Edgar by KO in 3R
Spencer Fisher vs. Marcus Aurelio = Aurelio by KO in R1
Din Thomas vs. Josh Neer = Neer by by KO in R1
Clay Guida vs. Samy Schiavo = Schiavo by KO in R1
George Sotiropoulos vs. Roman Mitichyan = Mitichyan by Sub in R1
Tommy Speer vs. Anthony Johnson = Johnson by KO in R1
* Well it will likely not be that much of KO’s in R1.
I’m not that of an expert and don’t know them all, so what do you think… less KO’s maybe?
awesome card, too bad theres a lot of fights that wont be shown
theyve changed it to three hours

Um, I think less wins from your picks! Please do not put your money on these selections
Um, I think less wins from your picks! Please do not put your money on these selections
No I wont do that, thanks for the tip anyway mate.
I’ve been betting at fights in some years now, but since my last loss I haven’t been betting.
It was the Mirko vs. Gonzaga fight, I lost about $800 and what a loss also
I was thinking of putting a bet last UFC though, on the Boetsch fight… too bad I didn’t do so since it would’ve mean some more cash.
Here in Sweden it was about six times the money.
i really wish they’d show the spencer fisher fight, i love to watch him fight, he’s improved so much over the years.
Fisher looked absolutely horrible at UFC 78 in New Jersey. He didn’t win one round.

Exact, in that fight he was pure crap!
AWESOME finally we get to se Diaz get tested! And what a test, a great fighter like Pelligrino should be a great obsticle in the way of Diaz. This card is as good as some of the Pay-per-views, and now with the addition of this HUGE lightweight bout it makes it hands down the best UFN ever.
I really believe Nate is an overall better fighter than nick at this stage in thier careers and I beleive nate has much more potential he seems like hes more willing to learn and adapt where nick seems like hes stubborn and set in his ways.
Nate diaz by first round submission
Pellegrino is going to give Diaz his first lost for sure! I think he would have beat Stevenson if he didn’t break his hand after the third or forth punch. Either way it’s Diaz biggest test!

Exactly what I was thinking man. THis is a TRUE test for Nate. Get past Pellingrino, I will be due-ly impressed.
So they’ve given us 3 hours. Lets be honest, there isnt a fight on this card I want to miss. Let’s start a new petition for 4 hours!!!!!!!!! Squeaky wheel gets the grease baby . . .
I find Diaz to be a boring fighter, I would prefer to see Edger and Guida as garunteed fights myself

wow smug little pr*ck aren’t you? its also not a given fight, but kurt will win. you got a problem with me throwing out predictions??
I like Diaz but Pellegrino will give him his first loss.
First round sub.
its offical! i got 50$ on it… nates going to take to the ground and submit in the 2nd round thats just my prediction : ), form a hottie with a crush… but he has mean talent and the heart, and he wants it more.
awesome fight …. diaz definate underdog but batman has some serious skills on the ground and there is no way kurt will tap out if diaz has a submission.. batman has better striking skills
if it doesnt go to a decision the only way batman will lose is if he gets choked out…
personally I am not that familliar with batman pelegrino I watched him fight a good fight on tv just a few days ago. I am very familliar with diaz not as a fan I think he has a poor attitude and a big ego I was not impressed with how he won the ultimate fighter 5 filialy I feel he got luckyby getting to face the easier oppinints at least compared to who manny gamburayan faced though diaz has talent he has not proven to be the ultimate fighter yet I wish diaz would fight gamburayan again I am pulling for kurt in this fight but if it goes to the ground I fear the worst if he can keep it standing he will win because diaz is not a good stand up guy he does not strike hard he has never knocked anyone out so that is where pelegrino is safe he may ground and pound him too as long as he does not tie up with him on the ground he should be a sure winner
personally I am tired of diaz he pops off at the mouth all too often someone is gonna put him in his place I don’t think he could mess with tuf 2 winner joe stevenson I think there are alot of guys who nate diaz will get beaten down by manny gamburayan being first and formost living proff of that just wait untill diaz meets someone like bj penn it would actually be cool to see nate diaz fight shawn sherk
i no a few guys who used to train with pellegrino back in the day when he was in jersey… im taking at least 6 years ago… and all i can say is that dont discount pellegrinos jiu jitsu… hes a black belt and a damn good one look at his grappling record…. and stats…..
3-time Greco and 3-time freestyle champion. Gold Medal Pan American (Blue belt), Brown Belt Absolute Division Grapplers Quest, Five-time Grapplers Quest Superfight Champion, US Trials for Abu Dhabi runner up losing to Cameron Earl in OT, Abu Dhabi qualifier for 2007, Gracie Arnold Classic Pro division champion (165 lbs to 195lbs weight class), Multiple time NAGA and Grapplers Quest winner. Grappling record of over 100 wins and 3 losses
its gonna be a good fight… you cant ask for a better match up….
Can’t wait for the 2nd. Pellegrino 4 for 0 in 08. Sub in first.
Edgar brings home also.
Show them how ocean county does it.
Getting fired up!!!!
4 and 0 I’m a tool
I hope you are right I hope kurt puts nate in his place I thought it was really uncalled for the way nate stood up and called out the top contenders espically after the fact that he luclky escaped a beat down be gamburayan in the tuf 5 finialy he is a little jerk he needs to be put in his place I don’t know where he gets this idea that being nick diaz brother makes him special jeorge grugill trains with former middle weight champion rich frenklen and he does not jump up and brag doesen’t matter because he will never get near the tital as long as he has that attitude someone is gonna come and kick his ass the 155 pound devision is stacked manny wants a rematch and diaz should step up he should be more worried about setteling unfinished buisness than calling out top contenders
To all. Kp brings to much to the table. Nate is not even in his league. Kurts grappling and Jiu Jitsu are FAR supperior to that of Diaz. Nate does have the reach advantage, but not the power KP has. A reach advantage won’t help when he’s getting choked out! GO KP.
GET READY DIAZ. BATMANS GUNNING FOR YOU. LET GO KURT!!!!
of course I am pulling fot bat man nate diaz I don’t like. he walks around with an attitude and an ego that is annoing he is not a very classy person he talks trash and is rude about evryone he is a good fighter but he seems to get pushed around alot I expect batman will win refferre stoppage round 2
joe luzon will win against kenflo I think unimious decision
