Tito Ortiz confirms his upcoming light heavyweight bout with Lyoto Machida at UFC 84 on May 24, despite recent statements from Renato “Babalu” Sobral to the contrary.

“The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” — who has headlined the top-two grossing pay-per-view (PPV) events ever in the history of the promotion — indicates that his next fight, which he says will be his last if UFC President Dana White is still in charge, is against White and not the undefeated Machida.

Naturally, White has his own rebuttal.

Yeah, even thought he is ‘done’ like the idiots above me said, he still sells pay per views. We beat Wandy back in the day, so i guess andy is done too since he lost to Chuck also right. I love it when haters talk their ignorance on here. It comical. aside from the Ferttitas, Titio is one of the main reasons the UFC is where its at today. What does Dana White do? Its not his money he’s spending, its his buddy’s. He doesn’t make the matches, thats Joe Silva’s job. So what does Dana do aside from lose marquee fighters becuse he’s too greedy? I’d say he’s trying to be like a Vince Mcmahon, but that would be an insult to McMahon. Just some say that Tito is ‘done,’ Dana has been done. He’s starting to be really bad for the sport.

Mania, thanks for clearing that up. I read Babalu’s statement and I was hoping that Tito “the coward” Ortiz wouldn’t back down from that fight.

Then again, maybe he should have because if wanderlei drops down to middleweight, there will be no top level opponent for Jardine to face and he has already been on the shelf since september.

Jardine would have made a much better opponent for Machida any way.

Oh well, lets hope Machida lights tito up, on May 24th.

I used to be a tito’s fan ages ago. Now we see an evolution of MMA fighters and Tito lost the wagon. Like Matt Hughes and GSP. Matt old generation and GSP new generation.

I think machida will win but I don’t think it will K.O him. Chuck couldn’t put him to sleep so I do not think Machida will.

If tito can’t take machida down, he’s fried. Machida stand up is really sharp. I would like to see tito-wanderlei 2.

If tito wants money I’m sure he will keep going making it in another org.

If Tito goes into that fight against Machida acting as if he’s actually fighting Dana, Machida will KILL him. He’ll probably kill Tito anyway. Machida is a top 5 LHW. Tito has no business being in the cage with a top 5 guy anymore and hasn’t for the last four years. Dana let Randy Couture walk away rather than renegotiate his contract after two of four fights. Why does Tito think he should be treated differently?

10-15 mil a fight in MMA? Is he retarded? Since when was it logistically possible for ANY fighter in ANY organization to get near boxing money for ONE fight. The big boxing fights are still beating UFC fights in PPV buyrates. Tito can go to EliteXC, make his SAME payrate, if not slightly more, and be happy b/c he’s not with Dana. Dana’s done more for this sport than Tito has. I haven’t seen Tito putting Harley Davidson on the octagon or fighting overseas in that expansion. STFU Tito and have fun outside the UFC.

I am always finding the tito hate hilarious here. I was thrilled when I heard machida was the choice for opponent. Barely anybody on this blog seems to think as I do. I feel that machida will be rolled over. I was very unimpressed with his ground game and that is where this fight is going. If anything machida ends up being the absolutely perfect plant for tito to leave on a very high note [or resign for a godo contract since I have no doubt that he'd resign to the top dollar] This is just show business as far as I can tell. Either way machida will be aced by tito and fade away slowly but surely. Remember this post when all the tito wagon jumpers have an instant change of tune. The coolest thing I’m glad of is how people say machida is a top 5 contender and tito has no business fighting him. That is going to make his victory so much sweeter. Thank you ;)

It’s a shame Tito over prices himself. He does this everytime his contract is up, whether or not he makes his mark during that contract. He is in the same position he was at the start of the last contract. He won a few fights over Shamrock, his first contract fight over Griffin, lost to Liddell, and drew with Rashad. None of this shows why he should renegotiate a new contract at a much higher payrate. He did have good PPV sales, but he was also carding with Liddell and Shamrock, two huge draws themselves.

If he beats Machida, he should get a fair raise, but nothing as ridiculous as the reports I have seen him asking for.

UFC gets boring Machida that does not speak English and cannot promote a fight. I don’t know. Sure Tito is afraid to fight anyone legit and although Kimbo could be very good at this stage I think Tito would take that fight, lock up with Kimbo, drive him to the fence (Tank did it, so surely Tito could) and then dump him on his ass. Then the snooze fest begins. 4 minutes and 40 seconds later the bell goes for the end of the round. Rounds 2 and 3 much the same.

Tito could’ve taken this win… atleast it will be his last loss and I hope I’ll never see him fight again… his days as a fighter are long gone, his fighting spirit was either flushed down the toilet or left inside of Jenna.

But just by looking at him… I mean his head is humongous, Machida can’t miss such a huge target… not even if he had only half the reach… it’s like a pale round Thai-mitt, it prolly feels good to hit an object like that.

I both dislike Tito and Machida and think this fight will be more of a loss for White than any other… no wait… a hugh loss for the eyes of the MMA-fans.

He is really screwing the guys that he says that he likes (the Fertittas). Ortiz is not being rational here. Personally, I think it is a really bad move for Ortiz to be attacking the the Fertitta’s company.
They are a little more “streetsmart” than Ortiz. Who are these people that are still Ortiz fans?

The reason that tittie is fighting LM is because Dan Henderson didn’t want to fight tito. he said he was not a top tier LHW. I couldn’t agree more. Tell the Mexicant that commented above that the reason that ufc is mainstream is cause of the ultimate fighter. Forrest Bonner 1 was what got people interested. Then Forrest beat tito, even though the judges f’d that up. Thats the only connection with Tito. Tito got his shot at chuck and got embarrassed. He is done. Money is the only reason that this guy fights. “I’ll stay around for 10-15 million a fight.” What a slut. Thank christ this guy is getting buried soon. I think porn with his whore is his best bet. i’ll give him a break when he quits crying like a little girl and does that. trains his fighters, does his other stuff, but quits trying to get the sensational headlines by being a crybaby.

Dana White is a total douchebag. You will see 1 by 1, each star eventually leaving the UFC for better pay days with other organizations.

Not anytime soon. Just like the amount of time it will be before the Raiders make the playoffs.

R U Kidding….of course its going to be Penn and Sherk….Tito is a bitch and isnt going to fight in the UFC “ever again” if Tito wasnt so popular and nobody kid themselves hes very popular…Dana would Prob. put him on the Under card like AA…….Tito deserves to be treated like a bitch not AA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I hope so buddy, but remember, Tito has been a HUGE draw when he was top tier and when he was not, he was involved in every record breaking revenue, of course im not kidding, I hope people tune into that one for the right reason – Penn/Sherk.

Good, the more talent Ufc drives away the better, they dont have the monopoly they had before, and still are given the fans shity fights and half cards. do yourself a favor, skip the ufc pay-per-veiws and put the ten bucks you saved on one card towards getting the fight network, the ufc can only compete because people dont know what else is out there. The only thing ufc has is the best fighters, and once they scare them away, theyre done, Dana should stop playing hard ball and start kissing his talents ass, and/or, ufc should fire him and get someone who knows how to adapt to changing business paradigms.
what really pisses me off is that i hate tito so much but i hate machida too so i dont know who to cheer/boo for….i say to make the fight interesting we throw 1 more person inside the octagon, just to see what would happen. Ive got a mental picture of machida wrapping up tito so he can’t move then we bring shamrock back for some free shots to tito’s massive cranium.
Dana’s done more for this sport?…your having a laugh…. Dana bad mouths fighters under his own umbrella ! what a cock. If he really had the sport in his interest and not just his face and money – he would have hooked up the fedor fight, instead of praising him then when he turned the contract down makes out fedor is nobody! Tito is the face of mma weather you like it or not, he always will be – his block head makes people who dont know the sport wonder who he is – nobody cares or even wants to know about dana, he’s straight out of thunderbirds!

I don’t understand you guys…We all know Tito is a great fighter, and is in the top 10. The UFC is trying to showcase Jardine, Evans, Alexander, Bisbing (probably spelt this wrong) as top 10 in the division. We all know that Evans and Bisbing are not in the top 10 and Tito can destroy them the same way he did Shamrock. The only reason, I believe, that Tito didn’t destroy Evans was the fact that Evans kept on running away the whole fight! The rematch should of happened obviously, but Dana didn’t want Tito to fight Evans the second time around because he knew he would kick his ass. Dana is trying to make Tito look bad.

Couture, Ortiz, Shamrock, Belfort, Penn, soon we’ll see Slyvia and AA, Mezger, Sobral after his loss to Chuck…I can go on and on.

Tito has been the headliner fight for the top two ppv’s that has generated the most income in history. So if he’s one of the biggest revenue generating fighters in the UFC, why should he not get paid more money?

OK i guess you tito haters are gonna get your wish that he is gone fom the ufc. Now im a die hard tito ortiz fan and in all honesty like what the man said in the interview big names sell ppv and the ufc will miss that. Arloski is a good fighter and hes getting the shaft, cro cop, sylvia, and most important cotour.all these fightes were champions at one time in there mma career and now there going elsewhere i know that all of them are intelligent and there is alot more going on behind the scenes and we are not getting half the story. i know you guys dont like tito and thats fine with me but you gotta like the stand up type of guy he is as well as the othes mentioned above.

i couldnt agree with you more. But i think hes tired of getting the shaft cause dana only takes care of the ones who kiss his a$$ and thats not tito, randys and others style they stand up for the others that are scared to talk.

Tito will continue to make headlines and tons of money no matter what! He could keep fighting. It’s all up to him and his passion. I guess he could want to do other things. The world is a big place. He could even start his own cage fighting company if he wanted to. No matter what, Thank You Tito for all battles you’ve given us. Win lose or draw, good luck. (even if you were a punk early on, and still are!)
He’s starting to be really bad for the sport.
dude, come on. you’ve gotta be kidding. wandy isnt done. hes lost three in a row. big whoop… they were against the greatest striker in mma (crocop), the pound for pound best fighter (dan henderson), and the most dominant LHW in ufc history (liddell).

titos got a mouth bigger than the octagons he fights in. hes a punk and when machida kicks his ass machida’s gonna get a title shot and tito’s gonna go to some 2nd rate organization and wont fight another top ten fighter in his career. dana white isnt right obviously because tito aint the only dude to get pissed at dana, but tito aint right either. i love tito as a fighter, but his attitude gets on my nerves too so i definately see where dana is comin from.
I think Machida will win in boring fashion because he’ll be doing nothing but countering and avioding takedowns the whole fight. That alone makes me not even want to watch this fight.
machida counter fights so he doesnt get hit. would you want someone punching you in the face or would you rather get out of the damn way and not get hit? and of course hes gonna avoid takedowns, everybody knows that all tito can do is ground and pound. thats more boring than anything.

he didnt wanna be a fighter. yea Dana you are the new jesus christ. save everybodys soul dana…

it’s not even good business sense to disrespect the fighters.. nevermind hurt MMA’s nobility, cause as spider says – it is a noble sport

I am a true MMA fan, and it upsets me to read and hear all these negative commits from UFC fans and professionals. Tito is very impressive he can start his own MMA fight club w/ his reputation he has worked very hard to instill in the public and professional realm.
I pay top dollars to collect all the UFC DVD’s and actually enjoyed a lot of the matches, now i’m hearing horrible news that my favorite fighters will no longer be with UFC Tito being one of them. Now i am doing research on other mma fight clubs like the k-1, pancrase and pride/ bushido ect… b/c of all these bull crap politics happening in UFC.
Please try and get your act together so you won’t loose a tremendous amout of fans world wide.

look at sherdog.com for tito ortiz….look at the caliber of fighters he has fought his entire career, most are top notch, and his only losses are to some of the very best in the world….guy mezger, frank shamrock, chuck liddel twice and randy couture,

his wins just to name a few evan tanner, ken sham 3 times, vitor belfort, forrest griffin

now before you type some bs look up the fighter first, he only fights top notch competition so no duh he doesnt win everytime
