‘Fighting Fedor:’ MMA reality series to determine next opponent for Emelianenko (Seriously)
By: Jesse HollandFedor Emelianenko, once considered the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter, has agreed to face the winner of a 16-man tournament on a new reality show by M-1 Global titled, “Fighting Fedor.”
Here’s the video trailer:
In short, be prepared for fighting’s most embarrassing television moment since “Iron” Mike Tyson made a guest appearance on, “Who’s the Boss.”
It seems M-1 Global is indeed hell-bent on delivering MMA fans the matches we’ve all been screaming for. After all, why bother with the likes of Josh Barnett or Antonio Silva when you can steamroll an up-and-coming fighter in front of your hometown crowd?
Even more amusing is the hackneyed narrator trying to sell us the premise as “Groundbreaking” and “The likes of which have never been seen before on American television“.
Sixteen fighters compete against each other in a sequestered environment with the winner getting a title shot — yeah … that’s as fresh as they come.
I’ve always been a fan of Fedor Emelianenko and there is no questioning his accomplishments in this sport. But this new endeavor carries the foul stench of network entertainment.
Fedor will continue to grin and sleep soundly in his bed of cash. He may or may not face the best competition, but it’s his legacy to defend.
And he may choose to defend that legacy with little or no effort.
His fans, unfortunately, no longer have that same luxury.

Oh yeah…very original idea here.
I for one can’t wait for this.
Just kidding.
It’s not like the entire M1 promotion is based around Fedor maybe or maybe not fighting.
Way to fight the best in the world Fedor.
Sounds good
we were saying the same thing about matt serra when he was about to face GSP… “he’s gonna get slaughtered. Why does he get an immediate shot when everyone else has worked their way up the ladder. Etc.”
i like the concept, but this probably means fedor will not fight for a while, and will once again, possibly fight a can. He will be fighting the winner of the tournament which means the guy fighting fedor will have fought 4 times in a short period before fighting fedor
So the winner of a grueling reality show gets the prize of possibly dying in a ring with fedor
This is probably just something for M1 to put in the limelight while they try to pull off that Couture/Fedor fight.
I am not going to defend Fedor anymore, this reality TV stuff is not going to do him any favors.
They have to realize, they are going after a niche audience of a niche audience, MMA is a small audience (relatively), whereas people who know Fedor, know a lot about him and are fans is an even smaller audience.
I fail to see how they can profit from this, whether it is Fedor or M1 itself.
If Fedor were to loose via a “punches chance” then he would bw done. I think M1 should team up with WVR or Elite-XC for cross promotions. I’d love to see Antonio Silva fight Fedor.
Here the question in my mind. With Tim Sylvia having one fight left on his contract will he leave and fight Fedor if Randy gets caught up in the courts. Will Monty Cox bring in Sylvia?
This sounds so strange. it’s like if chuck liddell fought forrest griffin immediately after he won TUF. they better have some seriously experienced fighters on there or it’s just going to look stupid.
Is Randy Couture a contestant? Mike Tyson?
To all the haters, TUF is not original either, The Contender is (although TUF changed many things that was so annoying in the Contender). This could be a good show, I like the idea of having international fighters as opposed to just American fighters. I’ll download it for sure.
Oh come on guys quit acting like you won’t watch it.
Dude this idea is brilliant , how could nobody think of this before a reality TV show with real fighters in a competiton to face the champion wow this is awes…. “WAIT A MINUTE”!!!!!
oh thats right this is a rip off of TUF 4 well apperantly the idiots of M-1 are clueless of the stupidity that happened last time dana decided to give a noncontender a shot at the title, this is retarted imagine if Fedor looses, OMG, cant believe they are having this show, anywho they should have Fedor fight all of them 1 by 1 or all at the same time then it will be original. I think I saw Travis Wiuff in a clip not sure, but hell im sure any fighter from another organization would love to have the chance to upset Fedor and gain inmense exposure. I hate to be bitching and be a hater because more than likely I will watch this show, but I dont think its a good idea.
I am so sick of Fedor. This is how he comes to fight the best in the business. Did ya’ll notice it said the best “young” contenders in the business. This dude amazes (sp)with his ability to dodge the bullet. Weak, weak.
I would like to know what channel this will come in on. It sounds more than stupid really, but I may watch the first episode.
This contest is sponsored in part by Campbell’s tomato soup.
I vote in favor of a moratorium on any Fedor-related news. If and when he decides he wants to be a real fighter with real opponents again then he can be discussed.
Stupid? Yes. Unoriginal? Yes. Makes Fedor look like a tool? Yes. Despite all the criticism, will you be watching this show? Yes…if not the whole thing, then at least the finale…don’t kid yourselves here.
Wow.. just wow.
I’m curious to see how the Fedor-backers are going to respond to this. I heard all the excuses as to why he was fighting Homg Man Choi. I can’t wait to hear the excuses for this garbage…
Wow….i’m sure this would make Fedor real happy too. He signs elsewhere of UFC, to only have a reality show to try to find him some opponents because there is no one that can stack up against him.
Sorry but 95% of the talent capable of beating Fedor is in the UFC. I support the UFC for not signing Fedor. If they are paying him the money, then they should have a say in his other “conflicts of interest” It’s just business. Smart business.
Let’s face it, some of these pay per views haven’t been all that great. You think UFC wants to schedule fights around other things these fighters want to do? Especially other fights and combat tourneys?
M1 paid Fedor the money because they were confident they would force UFC into doing a joint venture show to put Coture vs Fedor and put the M1 name on the map if Fedor were to win.
Good for UFC telling them to take a hike. The fans want to see this fight, no doubt. But, it sets a bad example because UFC would be showing their cards, and other fighters would get the hint that they could go somewhere else, and still fight the top competition to get paid and be the “big thing” in that organization.
Fedor goofed. He will vanish over there. He might as well be considered retired at the top of his game.
Not for nothing, but there was no guarantees with him anyhow. Look how all the other Pride guys have faired. I was convinced that the better fighters were in Pride. Cro Cop, Shogun, Henderson, Silva. It’ll sure get ugly if Henderson drops this next fight.
Alot of these guys just fell into the wrong weight class. Cro Cop could dominate in the 205, but not sure if he could get there. I think Henderson made a good move dropping down. Not sure if he can beat Silva though.
Rampage may be the only exception. I think he’ll be at the top for a while.
Sorry for the rant. Bored. No Cro Cop News.
Monte Cox said Fedor is fighting 3-4 times a year and this bullshit opponent better not count as one.I’m pissed if it does.
Hey guys I know I’m off of topic. But Zuffa just removed my self made Randy Couture highlight video from youtube due to copyright infringement. Is that common??? I hope they not sue me now

Heres one, He hasn’t fought real competetion in like 2 years. And now this? He is probably #10 HW in the world. Not #1.
I’m a little weary of taking another look at M-1’s website. I got a virus yesterday from it.
But I don’t really see this reality series as a bad idea. The better fighter should win the tournament, and there’s no reason high level fighters wouldn’t apply for it. Fighters from every organization except for the UFC would toss guys their way to participate. It’s a fresh perspective to use the noteriety of Fedor to boost his name and also M-1 as a significant promotion. Fedor’s got some making up to do for sure, but his critics seem to be a little too pissed off because he’s not in the UFC.
I’m getting sick of Fedor very quickly. I’ve always liked the guy. There wasn’t much not to like about Fedor. Great fighter, respctful and shows a lot of class. He kept a pretty low profile for the most part. Didn’t say or do stupid crap.
This is so disappointing to me. This is the last straw for me. First he doesn’t sign with the UFC. That’s fine, everyone knows Dana’s a douchebag, I can understand why Fedor wouldn’t want to work with the guy. I can live with that. Then he fights some freak 7 foot guy. Ok, the Japanese like there circus side shows. I can except that Fedor took that fight for his Japanese fans. Now he’s a reality TV star? That’s it. Fedor is quickly becoming irrelevant, as far as I’m concerned. He hasn’t done crap since 2005. I hope Fedor makes a lot of money. I hope he makes a ton of money in the next couple of years, so we can actually see him fight relevent fighters again. Good luck with your business endevors Fedor. Call me when you are going to take MMA seriously again.
Jesse Holland how abot you just report the news and don’t try to influence readers you can. You must figure out with mmamania how to become a journalist and not a ufc nuthugger!
I am beginning to not like the negative bent towards mma with nearly ever blog story posted on this web site. I really am beginning to dislike it. Does everything have to have this sneering and gleeful anticipation of failure and influence all over it? I want another competitor to smoke ufc because dana white is a tool. Good for M-1 I will watch it if I get it where I live which I doubt and then I’ll download the files off the net and watch it instead. I hope M-1 Keeps pushing UFC. I personally want to see UFC knocked down significantly by aroudn year 5 from this date.
The show is pure marketing…no sh**.
Fedor is the best fighter in the world. Anyone who disagrees can shampoo my crotch? Lock it up from the Internet tough guy, but seriously…
Fedor is #1 P4P (Okay maybe GSP because Fedor is a chubby “W”odka drinking Russian), #1 Heavyweight, and soon to be #1 reality TV star!!!
Is there anything in this Universe Fedor cannot dominate?
Again, Fedor is totally irrelevant.
So m1 is a poser and wants to run a tuf series and let the winner fight fedor what a great idea. They will run a show nobody will watch and they will put another fight together where fedor fights a can. I think everybody should just forget about fedor and stop talking about him and randy couture until both of them man up and for fedor fight a top oppenent and for randy stop being a prick and honor your contract and stop complaining about freakin money you are a millionare who was made famous by the ufc.
Hey guys I know I’m off of topic. But Zuffa just removed my self made Randy Couture highlight video from youtube due to copyright infringement. Is that common??? I hope they not sue me now :-)
It doesn’t matter if you made because the HL reel was derived from protected intellectual property rights.
AND,…
Yes, its very common because Zuffa has tight control on their intellectual property and they don’t let anyone use it, unless Zuffa is getting paid.
I’m not the biggest UFC/Zuffa (Pride “was” #1), but you can’t blame them for protecting this interest because the video footage, although usually in a PPV format, is really how the derive most of their revenue.
I’m not the biggest UFC/Zuffa (Pride “was” #1), A-Friggin_men to that!!! I am so pissed that UFC “bought” Pride, destroyed a gargantuan Japanese entertainment entity to cherry-pick their best fighters, throw away the better rules, piss off a whole nation, f-up getting Fedor, kowtow to sponsors (this knock out brought to you by Burger King@???!!!!!) and not make a deal to have the best color commentary team ever (Bas Rutten and Joe Rogen—MMA Gold). There are so many dropped balls I feel like I’m watching the GD Mets instead of one of the best MMA outlets ever. Watch out Dana, Mark Cuban is knocking down your door, babe.
i swear that looks like mac danzig around the 45 second mark, his look and movement
Again, Fedor is totally irrelevant.
I no longer like Scooby Doo because you hurt my feeling. It was my favorite cartoon. (Sigh.)
I like it… I would like it more if he fought some real names, but I could see the entertainment factor in it and I’ll be damned if I miss it.
Fedor is in a whole different category of top fighters now because of his past decisions. He is one of the best, no doubt, yet, he has one foot in mma and one foot in money. Too bad, but for now we’ll have to just be entertained in other ways by Fedor, and I’ll bite.
Initially, I really thought that this was a joke, even with the “Seriously” at the end of the title. This truely is an all-time low for Fedor and his “legacy”. I bet that they won’t even have as talented fighters that we are accustomed to on TUF. Now that’s saying something. Seriously, the only season of TUF to feature HW’s, had the finals of an overweight Rashad Evans vs an inexperienced Brad Imes. Can you imagine of the winner of that fight had to fight Fedor at that point in thier careers? WHAT IN THE WORLD would be the point of that? It makes zero sense. If M-1 is truely ‘Global’, then how many languages will this reality show be televised, and how many countries?
we were saying the same thing about matt serra when he was about to face GSP… “he’s gonna get slaughtered. Why does he get an immediate shot when everyone else has worked their way up the ladder. Etc.”
But Matt Serra had a bunch of experience and is just about as good at BJJ as it gets. Plus he had a bunch of fights in the UFC already. They are talking about young “up and coming fighter”. I guarantee that there will not be a single fighter on the show that has previously fought in the UFC or PRIDE. If they do, I guarantee that it will be a name that we would all laugh at.
OH YEAHHHHHHHHHH
Is fedor gonna fight another NO NAME
Fuck can we please officially just say, Fedor might be just trying to build a legendary record, and the way he is doing it is by fight NO ONE
FUCk FEDOR please please fight someone tough. Everyone tough he has fought i can count on my left hand.
Nogeura
Cro Cop
and……………. OH SHIT I RAN OUT
I thought the new year would give Fedor some Balls, but I was wrong, so we have to go through another year of listen to how FEDOR is the greatest as he fights Bum after Bum, hey maybe he’ll fight Shamrock, or Tank Abbot ahahahahahaha
Those fights would be promoted as fights of the year.
BULL SHIT!!!!!!!!

“Captain Speculation” should be your screen name. You have no foundation for anything that you wrote in that post regarding Fedor or TV show. At least wait until that facts come out to start bashing Fedor.
So when does this fight happen? I’m really hoping it’s just to keep Fedor active while they try to put together a fight with Couture (don’t see it), Arlovski (I think it could well happen) Barnett, Hunt or Giant Silva.
LOL, this is truely pathetic.
The only thing that could be funnier than this is if Fedor actually gets KTFO by one of them.

i hate the idea 1000%…”But watch out Dana”….look what this crap did for the UFC it made them what they r today from a point …………….. if you look at the MMA rankings, alot of fighters on the UF show r now ranked in the top ten……………the guys on this new M-1 show will prob take this as serious as say some light heavy weights Jardine ranked #6, Griffen #7 in the world or some welter weights Serra#2, kosechek#5, sanchez#8, Davis#10 and light weight joe stevenson#10 in THE WORLD not to mention fav’s like Leben and swick or Burkmen ……………..seriously this could be huge for M-1 they could produce some top ten guys from this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’d fight fedor.

for his next fight after this one, Fedor will take on Captain Lou Albano.
Well said, Jesse. It’s about time we all saw what a hack Fedor IS. Dana wins.
Maybe the winner of the show takes charge of the opportunity and pulls off a Matt Serra. (I was being sarcastic)
Why did the video show Mac Danzig shadow boxing?? Is he going drop his ufc contract to fight Fedor? I also saw Travis Wiuff on it, atleast he’s a heavyweight, but even if he is on the actual show and won it, he is no threat to Fedor…even though M1 has the #1 heavyweight, they have no idea how to run an or, they wont get anyone else besides Fedor, and they will only run his name in the dirt…..M1 is Kevin Federline to Fedor’s Brittany Spears, they are ruining a good thing

I agree, I’m sick of hearing about the guy. He hasn’t done anything worth mentioning in years…let’s quit talking about this has been and instead talk about real fighters who fight real competition.
Until then, fedor is old new that will Fed into the sunset…
what the hell fedor!! dude your are starting to sell out like tito ortiz…..say you want big names but always come to terms with lower competition…dont do this to your fans and the sport.
i hope fedor loses, then what would m1 do? go bankrupt. i hate these promotions that protect their fighters and give them opponents they know their superstar can defeat…just so they can keep the cash flowing….ufc threw their $250,000 per fight superstar into the octagon for a debut against a former champ…they realize that quality matchups and fights where both fighters have a legitimate chance at walking out victorious is what the sport’s all about…good, competitive fights…

well because your statement isnt really worth anything in reality cuz it isnt based on anything on your part just the fact that you favoritize more than you analyze facts. we already know your opinion is going to be heavily biased and wont change you mind if we are right or wrong. we can already tell that just by looking at your tag name…and yes it was an attempt of humor…
It doesn’t sound like a network has picked this seris up?… I imagine the trailer is a promotional tool… Wonder if Spike TV is considering it?
I agree with most of what J Holland has to say, Fedor has not been fighting the best, and this tourney is certainly not going make that happen either.
BUT, it may be a way of waiting around to see what happens with Couture. Also, I think it’s a way of creating a new heavyweight division for M-1. It will bring (They hope) marketable recognition towards their organization and new group of fighters.
I for one welcome any type of MMA on TV… I’m a big fan of MMA and I’ll watch anything new… hell’ aren’t you guys sick of all the WEC reruns!???

I agree with most of what J Holland has to say, Fedor has not been fighting the best, and this tourney is certainly not going make that happen either.
BUT, it may be a way of waiting around to see what happens with Couture. Also, I think it’s a way of creating a new heavyweight division for M-1. It will bring (They hope) marketable recognition towards their organization and new group of fighters.

Amen. I agree.
My only question is…
Fedor can’t speak English, so are there going to be subtitles?

“Captain Speculation” should be your screen name. You have no foundation for anything that you wrote in that post regarding Fedor or TV show. At least wait until that facts come out to start bashing Fedor.
LOL. We’ll just wait and see who is in the cast. What do you think, that Randy Couture, Josh Barnett, Andre Arlovski, Pele and others will sign on to fight on a reality tv show that is going to get zero national exposure?
i hate the idea 1000%…”But watch out Dana”….look what this crap did for the UFC it made them what they r today from a point …………….. if you look at the MMA rankings, alot of fighters on the UF show r now ranked in the top ten……………the guys on this new M-1 show will prob take this as serious as say some light heavy weights Jardine ranked #6, Griffen #7 in the world or some welter weights Serra#2, kosechek#5, sanchez#8, Davis#10 and light weight joe stevenson#10 in THE WORLD not to mention fav’s like Leben and swick or Burkmen ……………..seriously this could be huge for M-1 they could produce some top ten guys from this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BUT, none of those guys were even close to being Top 10 material immediately after the show. They were each fed the proper number of cans (2-3) before stepping up in competition. To think that Griffin could have beaten Liddell or Diego could have beaten Hughes or GSP back then immediately after season one is just insane.
