Here’s the final fight during which Fedor Emelianenko defeats Stanislav Shushko in the Russian Combat Sambo Championship 2008:
Doesn’t seem like such a huge injury risk. For more details about the event and Emelianenko’s run through the rest of the competition head over to MMANinja.com.

Dana white is such a liar. How can he say that Fedor sucks and that his UFC heavyweights are better. Let’s look at the interm title fight. You’ve got Tim who Randy destoryed and Nog who Fedor beat twice.
This is the reason the UFC didn’t sign Fedor? B/c of a small obligation to a sambo tournament!! Why!!!!!
This is the reason the UFC didn’t sign Fedor? B/c of a small obligation to a sambo tournament!! Why!!!!!
It was more than that. This was just one of the sticking points.
F*** Fedor…. Where’s the news about Cro-Cop??
Sorry… getting impatient… long day at the office
Doesn’t look very scary or dangerous to me, I would fight Fedor in a Sambo competition, I would be headless and most likely dead afterwards but it would still be fun. Not as intimadating as MMA.

He is a liar, but you guys need to realize that being a liar is why he is a good promoter. When you are selling a product, you not only glorify the product you are trying to sell, but you have to degrade the competitor’s product. It’s the way it is. Why would Dana tell everyone that Fedor is the best heavyweight, when Fedor fights for another promotion? If Fedor fought for the UFC, Dana would call Fedor the greatest heavyweight of all time. It’s business.

Cro Cop is coming back, its already up on his website. Here are a few quotes.
“The famous Croatian cop will make his comeback and what’s left is to see if others will only have the right to remain silent.”
“Mirko added that he has never choosen his opponent and that he will gladly accept any challenge the UFC puts in front of him, but his wish is to face the strongest opponent possible.”

I don’t pretend to know what was going on behind the scenes of his UFC deal, but if this was a major reason the deal didn’t go through its absolutely ridiculous.
Put this next to a video of him sparring MMA for fight training and it probably looks no different.
Dana White needs to see this
Sorry, I’m still with Dana on this one. Fedor refusing to fight in UFC so he can beat up on the likes of Stanislav Shushko is equivalent to Matt Hughes turning down a fight because he likes tossing around his beginner students at H.I.T. Squad. Refusing to fight the best HWs in the world in the best MMA organization just so you can tool a bunch of amateurs in front of 200 people at a high school gym smacks of cowardice.
This is a joke, his opponent is an amateur..
Whats up with Fedor fighting inferior 7 footers lately?
I feel bad for his opponents really. They dont stand a chance. If the competition reaks this bad why does he still participate?

Ok TUF nuthugger, you’re a tool. Please do not post stupidity here again.
end of thread
What’s wrong with all of you people?!?! He was competing at the “Russian Combat Sambo Championship”, which he’s also a World Sambo Champion. Why could any of you say his opponents are amateurs? On what basis? To fight in a nationaly recognized competition, you think they would allow amateurs? Come on now! That’s just talking with no common sense. Here’s a metaphor: if were to GSP destroy the competition at the Canadian Olympic try-outs (YES, THAT WOULD BE THE SAME LEVEL OF COMPETITION AS A RUSSIAN NATIONAL SAMBO TOURNAMENT, AND DON’T ARGUE THAT!), would we call all the other competitors amateurs? Answer is NO, because we all this GSP is #1!
WAR GSP & FEDOR
Stanislav Shushko v Tim Sylvia, this is the fight fans REALLY want to see.
Please Dana, make it happen!!!!!

SWEET!!! Thanks for the headz up bro!
Sambo versus Greco-Roman… sounds like a good match-up to me. but everyone knows randy would kick fedor’s ass! damn u dana for not letting it happen!!!

PW, so if someone just destroys another person in a competition, that other person is automatically an amateur? so the whole middle weight division in the UFC is filled with a bunch of amateurs right? since anderson pretty much destroyed everyone so far. yeah, that makes total sense now.
sorry, I really respect fedor for sticking up to what he wants to do. he wants to continue competing in sambo… check. continue competing in MMA… check. yeap, can’t argue with that, UFC is just too proud to let him do anything else, this is why I loved Pride, they actually respect their athletes enough to let them compete in different sports. such as sambo competitions, the pan-american games, ADCC, etc.
I was not impressed with this fight at all i was a wrestler in high school and fedor used my favorite move we called it the head and arm in high school wrestling if fedor is beating people with that move them im sorry but they are really bad ametures,i dont really care for fedor at all, this is a sad video to watch.dont get me wrong though as much as i dislike him as a fighter he still has my respect as a mma fighter i would just like to see him in action with top contenders.

yeah you make a good point. My point though is that everyone knows he’s lying about this.
Fedor si doing that shit … Stay in Rusia buddy.
lol didn’t all but one of his opponents in that sambo tournament “not show up for their fights”. i thought i remembered reading that he only had to fight once to defend his title.
I gotta say, that seemed more boring than wrestling, but maybe that’s just me.
And for a national event, there didn’t seem to be a lot of people there.
kudos to Fedor for giving back to the sport that brought him up and gave him a solid base to become great in MMA. Not too many stars give back like that.
But yeah, if he runs through the guy that beat another 2 top guys, the level of competition is surprising and the fact that the sport that brought Fedor up, isn’t able to bring up more guys like him.

Are any of those professional fighters? I can go to a local gym and whale on a heavy bag for a while, but that doesn’t make me a professional boxer. If Fedor is going to claim to be the No. 1 HW in the world and demand however many millions of dollars from UFC to come fight here then Dana and the Fertittas have every right to tell him not to fight anywhere else. Look at the contracts of other American professional athletes in football, baseball, etc. Many of them, especially the high-paid superstars, have clauses in their contracts prohibiting them from high-risk activities such as motorcycle riding, skiing, even surfing. All Fedor wants is to keep competing against amateurs and carnival acts instead of real fighters and preserve his record instead of a legacy.

I don’t like Fedor and I can’t believe I’m defending him but this tournament wasn’t the only reason Fedor didn’t sign with the UFC, there was a lot more bullshit. IMO, I don’t think this tournament should have even been an issue to Dana because of all of the protective gear that they wear and the lack of competition.

If it’s a final of a nation-wide competition than they are legit athletes (not fighters, athletes). Since you’ve said that the UFC has every right to prohibit Fedor from competing in such events if he was signed, than Fedor also has every right to look for an mma organization that will allow him to still compete in such events. Just because the guy practices mma doesn’t mean his heart is 100% mma, he may just as well love to compete in sambo, who are you to call him a coward because he chose to continue to do that? And only because he destroys everyone he faces in sambo (and mma) doesn’t mean his opponents are amateurs, that just means that he is that good.
The stipulations about him having to automatically resign his contract for the same money if he is undefeated after his 6 fights and the fact that the UFC could just cut him if he lost was probably the biggest negative. Dana expects every fight to roll over for him and sign whatever deal he throws at them, when they don’t he gets pissed. That’s why he hates Tito so much.
Dana is the guy who ran a show of him training for a fight that never happened. He’s a suit who thinks he’s the real star of the show. I think thats why he cuses so much, the kids think he’s cool for it. He’s a freakin’ egomaniac!
He must have hated Nog subbing Timmy since now he’s champ was schooled twice by a “second rate fighter”.
This is obviously way too easy for Fedor. It’s like if GSP went back and fought in a Kyokushin karate tourney lol.

We have to realize Fedor is a GOD in Japan, Russia, China, Korea….him loosing American fans just isnt that big of a deal.
I harp on it all the time but Fedor is easily the best heavyweight in the world. He has beaten everyone that the UFC has recruited and then some.
At the end of the day we will see the Heavyweights leave the UFC for bigger money when contracts are up .. then, and only then, will Dana have to think about co-promotion.

I completly agree… Fedor had a chance to cement a legacy and chose not to.
I don’t care about his reasons, he should have stuck his hand up in the air and said “I WANT TO FIGHT THE BEST”.
He would have got paid whatever he wanted and i bet Dana would have let him fight in these stupid things if he signed on the line.
He ought to take a leaf out of Randy and Chucks book ie randy saying ‘ive got one fight left and i want it to be against the best’ or chuck flying to japan to go hunting for Silva.
I know fedor beat the best in Pride but thats not enough. I’m sorry but this topic still pisses me off.
Does anyone know how Fedor submitted Shushko to win the tournament?
I have watched every video I could find and they are all the same. I don’t think Sergei Eisenstein shot that footage. Furthermore, I have checked and doduble checked all my resources and I can’t figure out how Fedor submitted him.
If anyone knows, please posted it up!
Thanks!!!

Did youever see that show on history channel with Jason Chambers and Bill Duff? Bill duff is far from a great wrestler or mma fighter. On that show Bill Duff absolutely crushed Fedor’s protoge. On a level compared to MMA, Sambo looks amatuer, except for Fedor. Him fighting in these Sambo tornaments would be like GSP fighting at one of these fair ground MMA Promotions. The point being made I believe is that, why does he bother even doing them when he always walks through everyone. He passed up real competition in the UFC so he can fight in a BS bush league tornament.
By the way GSP trying out for the olympics would be vs. a bunch of amatuers. 90% of olympians are amatuers, they never made any money for competeing.

hard to call there pretty evenly matched both with power and good stand up i think choi has faced the tougher compition(stand up) and since neither one would try to take it to the ground thats all that matters, i see choi winning but its close.

Most people don’t seem to get that, he was supposed to sign a contract that would basically make him a slave to Dana White’s whim, auto resign if you win, can be cut if you lose. He had other options that paid him the money he wants and not be stuck with those stipulations. Aaron W: U r completely right. The UFC offered him a terrible contract. They wouldnt let him do any unsanctioned non UFC interviews. he couldnt do any movies without the UFC’s permission. Also the UFC wasnt gonna give an opportunity for any of his young red devil fight teamates to compete in the UFC, and Dana tried to lowball is talented little brother. To this day I do not understand y the UFC wasnt willing to let the Red Devil fight team members compete in the UFC. Many young talented fighters are part of that team, and they cant be any worse then all the British fighters assigned to UFC undercards. Dana wants us too hate Fedor and look at him as a coward, but instead it just makes me want to hate Dana more.
