Keith Jardine

“There’s a good chance (Forrest Griffin) wins the fight (with Rampage Jackson) and that means I’m in line to get the next fight.”

– Top 205-pound contender Keith Jardine tells 15Rounds.com that if he wins his next fight, which is rumored to be against Wanderlei Silva, he’ll get the next shot at the light heavyweight crown … if Forrest Griffin can defeat current champ, Rampage Jackson. There was no explanation as to what happens if Rampage retains the belt; however, it’s safe to say that he’ll earn the winner of the June clash between Chuck Liddell and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Jardine already defeated Griffin, creating a marketable rematch between two well-known contestants on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF).

I think that Jardine beating Wanderlei is even more unlikely than Griffin beating Jackson, so I wouldn’t be so quick to come with such declarations if I were you, Keith.

Chuck’s loss to Jardine could really hurt him. The fact that there is a scenario where he beats Wandy and Shogun and doesn’t get a title shot is crazy. If Jardine, Chuck, and Forrest win, does Chuck fight Machida? In that extremely unlikely scenario, I guess I would be rooting for Jardine over Forrest. That way, Chuck could win back the belt and avenge the loss at the same time.

does shogun deserve a shot if he beats liddell? he holds a win over rampage but he also got embarassed against griffin.

To many if’s for jardine. First off I dont think Rampage is going to lose to griffen. His new camp is actually training him properly for each of his fights unlike rampage jacksons last trainer.

I also think Jardine will beat wandi in a match. When he beats him, I think he should get the shot against rampage.

I like Jardine the guy has definately got skills which he showed against Bonner,Forrest and Chuck. He made a mistake against Houston which I don’t think he will repeat. His leg kicks are second to none. Technical, accurate and powerful. The UFC does not want Jardine as a champion because he is not marketable for them, they are going to make it as difficult as possible for him. He just beat Chuck, Chuck just beat Silva. It makes no sense and is not fair on Jardine that he should be fighting Silva. The UFC definately has it’s favourite fighters and you cam really tell the ones they want to make it difficult for, Karo is another one. I do not mind Jardine, he may lack personality and charisma, but he makes up for all that inside the octagan with his fighting skills and heart. I feel sorry for him though, because it does not matter how good he is, he will never be good enough for Dana or the UFC. I hope he goes all the way.

Plain and simple : who cares if Jardine beat Chuck and Forrest, he has less marketability that a bag of marbles. No title shot in near future for him !

Forrest vs. Rampage winner will face winner of Liddell vs. Shogun

Keith Jardine was mauled by Houston Alexander. Wanderlei Silva has a solid chance of winning against Jardine. If Jardine manages to win, he’d prob face Lyoto Machida or Thiago Silva.

Rampage will be champion for the next 2 years, so all this speculation is without merit. The only fighters I give a shot at beating Rampage are the former Chute Box Boys Wanderlei and Shogun. to be honest, even though they have repeatedly beatdown Rampage in the past, I think that this is a completely different Rampage that we are seeing, and as long as he has juanito in his corner, Rampage will be champion for a long time.

Heres a fun Fact for u all: Juanito was Vitor Blforts trainer back when Vitor destroyed wanderlei.

Doesnt really matter who the champ is at 205, that division is so deep that most potential matches involving top 10 fighters of that division will all be great matches..

I dont feel that Jardine deserves a title shot. After all he is on a 1 fight winning streak. In reality Chuck shouldnt get a title shot even if he beats Shogun because he will only be onj a 2 fight winning streak going (2-2) in his last 4 fights.
However, the UFC chooses to ignore Chucks first loss to Rampage and they will justify him getting a shot at Rampage (if he beats shogun) by saying Chuck was a dominant champ for a long time, he lost to Rampage, (ignore the Jardine fight) and then went on 2 beat the 2 guys that beat the crap out of Rampage in the past so he deserves another shot at Rampage. I dont agree with this scenario but it is a reality.

I hope that Dan Henderson looses to Silva because there are some great fights waiting for Hendo at 205 lb:
Hendo vs. Wanderlei III
Hendo vs. Liddell would be awesome
Hendo vs. Shogun would be a long awaited fight
Hendo vs. Jardine would be great as well
Hendo vs. Machida would be really interesting as well

Jardine is almost as underrated as Tim Sylvia. When be brutally KOd Griffin: “It was a fluke. Forrest was winning until he got KOd, he’d take a rematch”. When he brutalized Chuck Liddell with leg and body kicks and won a decision: “Chuck had an off night, he would win a rematch against Keith”.

Keith is taller than Wandy, he would also come into the fight weighing around 230lbs (I think Wand is closer to 215lbs). He’s faster than Wand, he’s a more techinical kickboxer and his striking is more dynamic. Do you really think a guy that big and quick will let Wandy grab a MT clinch on him? Jardine will win.

However, there is no chance in hell that Forrest will beat QJ, so he still has a ways to go for a title shot.

Yeah, but his picks have not been what they used to be. Randy used to go 6 for 8, 7 for 8, 8 for 8. Now he’s lucky to guess half the endings. Besides, his obvious pick(Forrest) would show favoritism, and it ain’t like he can predict Rampage over his own fighter. That would be different though.

I’ve never been a huge Chuck fan but how can you say he’s not a headliner anymore when his last fight with Wanderlei was phenomenal? And everyone always talks on these threads how the UFC needs to put together match-ups that the fans want, and Chuck is one of the biggest draws in the UFC. Fighters hat are more exciting and more marketable are going to get the best fights, doing so is giving the fans what they want.

Machida has beaten the following fighters: Rich Franklin (TKO), BJ Penn, Stephan Bonner and destoyed Sokoudjou. He deserves the title shot, but his face does not sell tickets. The same reason why Lesnar is making $250k and Sylvia is making $100k. UFC looks at it this way, $250k/$39.99 = 6000 PPV buys. Will 6000 more people buy if Lesnar is on the card? If yes, then he is a profit. Similar with Satelite Radio. If 8 million people already have a Sirius subscription and someone wants to leave regular radio and sign with Satelite, the satelite companies have to ask, how many people do we add if we hire Mr X? I think Jardine is getting shafted. I know that they need a champion who is marketable but that shouldnt be the only thing they look for. Jardine beat Forrest, then he made a mistake against Houston, and then he beat the former champ, and even though it wasnt a dominating perfomance it should still count. Forrest loses to Jardine, then gets a fight against a fighter with skill but who is nowhere near title contention, and then he beats Shogun and gets a title fight. In my mind if Jardine wins his next fight he should get a title shot. If not him then who, it cant be the winner of the Lidell Shogun fight, I mean Lidell has to climb back up the ladder if he wants a third shot at Rampage, and Shogun looked horrible in his last fight. And what if Silva wins he wont get a title shot, and then theres the Machida Ortiz fight, what if Ortiz wins then leaves, the UFC could possibly have LHW contenders. Man my head hurts

Dana has his favorites like lidell, bisping, franklin, forrest strictly for marketability and money…and then there are the jardines, machidas, parysians and arlovskis of MMA that continue to get pushed aside and deserve title shots! theres a reason he doesnt have rankings and thats simply so he can continue to pull this kinda of staged crap that doesnt reward the winners or most deserving!

If Jardine beats Wandy, however unlikely that may be, then he definately deserves the next title shot. That said, the UFC overlords don’t always give the title shots to those who deserve it most.

Machida isn’t a top contender yet and neither is Rashad or Thiago Silva. You gotta beat a contender to be a contender. That means one of Chuck, Wandy, Rua, Rampage, Jardine or Forrest. Oh, or Hendo if he doesn’t stay at MW.

I know Machida’s beaten BJ and Franklin, but those fights were 3 and 5 years ago respectively.

i think after shougan chuck needs to beat 2 more top fighters out of these 5. . . .

Manchida (even though it could be boring)

Jardean (to get revenge)

Hendo (need i say why)

T silva (always good to beat a good up and comer)

Rashard (i would like to see him get smashed and get him to drop to mw)

i spelt jardine wrong twice im going to get ripped apart lol
you are like a train wreck LOL! you have just about everyones name spelled incorrectly… very funny nevertheless btw, you also “spelt” it wrong…dont worry nobody is counting
There’s nothing wrong with “spelt”. It’s less common in American english, but spelt is an alternative to “spelled” as the past tense and past participle. It’s the same case with a few verbs: burnt/burned, spilt/spilled and quite a few more. Hopefully you’ve learnt something today.

wow ufc has put jardine in a lose lose situation. he should already be fighting for the belt. now he wont get a chance because i dont see him beating wanderlei.

Why should he be fighting for the belt? He only has one win since getting KTFO!

Because he has already beat the two people getting a shot at the belt.

I will laugh so hard when, excuse me, if Jardine wins. The guy actually has a legimate shot at beating Wanderlei. I’m not a betting man but I’m sure he’ll probably be a huge underdog despite his exploits against Chuck.

Probably worth a bet for those gamblers out there. Surely it will be a positive expectation bet because as someone explained to me here before when the big bucks get laid down on Wanderlei early in the betting the line will probably change making Wandy a bigger favourite and Keith a bigger underdog. (Due to many casual fans giving Jardine absolutely no chance).

Of course then more people will bet on Jardine as the odds will be too good to refuse. The line will then probably go back the other way. Think that happened for the Mir Lesnar fight. It definitely evened up in the last few days.

I think if Jardine wins he should get a title shot weather or not Griffin wins. He has defeated Griffin and Liddell and if they give the title shot to Liddell before him that would be rediculous and it would only show that the UFC has no respect for Jardine. However if I were him I wouldn’t look past Wanderlei Silva. Silva poses a very dangerous threat for Jardine and I beleieve that Silva should be favored. He has a major stylistic advantage over Jardine. If Silva wins what’s next for him? I think if Loyoto Machida wins he should fight him or if Shogun wins he should fight him. This is going to be a very interesting coarce of events and I am interested to se what happens.

This division is awesome, Thiago Silva, Lyoto Machida, Chuck Liddell, Forrest, Rampage, Wanderlei, Shogun … plus new addition like Boestch - there are so many good match ups - cant wait.

I’m glad Bobby Southworth never made it in the UFC. He would damper all these good matchups.
It’s also hilarious how great people think Randy is considering how badly he’s been destroyed by Chuck. I’d actually like to see him fight guys like Machida, Jardine, and QJ at HW. That division is really lacking in good fighters.
For one, styles make fights, and Chuck is curtain cut to beat Randy. But Randy’s stand up has changed PLENTY since then, and I would put my money on him to win if they fought today.

I agree, Randy is a master of stategy and gameplans He really is at the top of his game He could beat lidddell to bad it wont happen then they could be 2 & 2 and go for the deciding best out of five.

I dont care that Jardine is not a ufc poster boy this isnt a damn popularity contest, If he wins his next fight he deserves an immediate title shot. Tim sylvia isnt marketable either but look at how many title shots he was given in the past three years.

I agree, Randy’s standup has gotten better. I don’t know if I’d put money on Randy taking it though. To me; it would depend on what weight class. HW; Randy. LHW; Liddell.(my opinion)

It is inevitable that the 205 pound division becomes the heaviest weight class in the UFC if Dana keeps treating fighters with the way he is.

With Randy gone it had an immediate impact, and I think Big Nog showed this when he begged him to come back after he won the other week. Big Nog only has Mir, Kongo, Wedrum, Gonzaga left … (not sure where Cro Cop is)

Soon to leave are Arlovski and Sylvia, (and I bet Mir once his contract is up) soon the most marketable heavyweights are outside of the UFC and I can not wait.
