Patrick Cote (12-4) is penciled in to take on Alan Belcher (12-4) in a middleweight scrap at UFC 83: “Serra vs. St. Pierre II” on April 19 from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, according to MMAWeekly.com.
This latest news — albeit unofficial — rounds out the 10-fight Canadian-riddled card. In fact, “The Predator” is one of eight combatants slated to compete that evening with roots north of the United States border.
Cote is on a three-fight win streak inside the Octagon after dropping his first four matches. He has stopped Kendall Grove and Drew McFedries each in the first round his last two times out and has looked impressive while doing it.
He’s finally got confidence to go along with a solid skill set … Belcher is another nice test to see where he is at in the 185-pound division.
“The Talent” was booked to take on Ricardo Almeida at UFC 81: “Breaking Point” just two weeks ago; however, he had to withdraw just days before the event because of a severe bronchitis infection.
He, too, has a nice streak to uphold, winning his last two bouts against Kalib Starnes and Sean Salmon.
With a win, either fighter will more than likely be poised for a bigger match later in the year against a top contender in the division. The other will drop to 12-5 and have to get back to the drawing board.
The rematch between UFC Welterweight Champion, Matt Serra, and 170-pound interim titleholder, Georges St. Pierre, will headline the pay-per-view (PPV) event. To check out the rest of the UFC 83 fight card click here.

Awesome fight…good work Joe Silva. I can’t wait to see thsi fight live at the Bell Centre. I think this fight could be fight of the night with two guys who love to bang. I’m really rooting for Cote although I like Belcher a lot…gotta go with the Canuck on this one. I think if Cote wins…he deserves a #1 contenders match with Franklin if he wins or the winner of Okami/Tanner or even the loser of Silva/Hendo.
It’s going to be a good one. These are the type fights I like.

This is a great fight! Cote is a good striker who loves to Bang it out. Belcher is a fighter who I like to watch a lot. His Muy Tai is very entertaining and dangerous. They are both 2 good solid strikers, but they have very different styles. Belcher is a pure Muy Tai striker while Cote is more of a Boxer. This fight will be awesome, they will keep it standing the whole time, but the contrast in their striking styles will be very interesting and entertaining.
Belcher vs. Kalib was awesome, and Kailb isnt half the striker that Cote is so it should be a good one. I cant imagine this card not being televised. Lucky for you Buster Bluth that you wont have to worry about it not being televised. Belcher put on a beautiful display of the 8 points of Muy Tai strioking vs. Kalib. He threw punches in bunches, Kicks, Knees, Flying knees and standing elbows.
I am happy to see Cote have success. He made his debut in the UFC when he was a young fighter, who took the fight on short notice against Tito Ortiz, back when Ortiz was actually a good fighter. He hung in there with Tito, showed heart and even dropped Tito with a nice shot. Ultimatly he lost that decision, but there was no shame in that. I expected big things after that out of Cote, but it never happened. He slipped into one of the worst cold streaks in the UFC, loosing
numerous fights in a row. I thought a demotion to the WEC was inevitable. Then he KO a HOT TUF winner Kendall Grove. After that, he was matched up against a very DANGEROUS McFedries. He took some big shots from drew, but they didnt seem to phase him….then he KO McFedries. Cote has seen his share of hard times in the UFC and I am happy to see him coming into ihs own and enjoying some success.
This will be a great fight, but I see Cote being a slight favorite. I expect his odds to be minus 150, or minus 180. However Cote should be very careful cause Belcher is on Dangerous dude.
Cote takes this fight imo.
Starns would have taken it if it wasen’t for the nasty cut.
THIS IS EASILY THE CARD OF THE YEAR.
I love it, belcher all the way..

Why do u think that this is a better event then UFC 82?
This card lacks star power….Bring Back Joe Scarolla!!!! lMOA

Nice one John. If you want star power, besides Scarola I would recommend Gabe Rudeger.
This should be a good fight but I don’t see how Cote loses this one.

While you at it…lets see Jason Thacker and Andy Wang.
This card isn’t the best one lined up this year but it’s fairly solid and the main event is going to be simply awesome. You have the debut of Danzig at lightweight…two guys coming off loses to Anderson Silva going at it…Belcher/Cote both fighters on their way the MW ladder…and unfortunately the debut of Bisping at MW thatI don’t really care about personally. I think the Starnes/Quarry fight should be a good one too. Overall…the card is pretty good…not great…but they can’t all the best. It’s always the cards that don’t look good on paper that make the best to watch.

How can you have a star studded event without Rick Davis? Remember him? He’s that karate instructor that got his head knocked off by Melvin Guillard. If Melvin landed that second hook, Davis may not be walking today…
And how about a main event of Bisping vs Evans, LOL. Oh wait, that actually happened….
yup-he’s hot.
I am furious that i did not get ufc 83 tickets!!! How the fuck can you release less then 2000 tickets to the general public!!! WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? It is just not fair. But I really like the way the UFC tells you they are sold out of fight club pre-sale tickets…then takes the tickets for the newsletter presale and gives them to the fight club members without telling you so you can sit there and wait for this newsletter pre-sale while all the tickets get bought up by scalpers.
anyway, thank you Dana White for giving me no chance of buying a ticket so you could make money.
I agree

Well he made money because someone bought the tickets you would have. Now if you want to watch it you have to get it on PPV or head to the bar which he is also getting money for.
As for this fight I sure hope it makes it on the PPV. I would much rather see this fight then Bisping vs tupperware.

The point I was trying to get accross is that the UFC obviously cancelled the newsletter presale and sold 20,000 tickets to fight club members because THEY WANTED MORE FIGHT CLUB MEMBERS!!!!….they just wanted people to pay them an extra 75$ for their ticket. Think about it 75 x 20,000…you do the math
Cote, cote, cote, cote, cote, cote, cote cote, cote, cote!!!
Cote by ko first round!

I understant your point. It sucks when the UFC finally comes to Canada and locals cant even get tickets. If I understand it right though fight club members seemed to be able to buy more then their set # of tickets. Good luck with the next event in Montreal.
i heard rumors of some kind of venue in montreal to watch ufc 83 on a close circuit televison or somehting. i heard fighters will be there and it will be done up all nice. anyone heard anything? do you have to buy tickets?

The UFC is looking into this but they havent announced anything that I know of yet.
Whoever made this rumour. Good but COte has 4 winning streaks
I’ll be rooting for Cote
TKO - Cote - 2nd round.
Too bad, I’d love 2 c Alan get another shot at Kendal Grove.

You need to watch that fight again. Belcher stuffed the takedowns and was not affected by any of Kalebs punches
Mr. Obvious just told me that he suspects that a large number of fight club members are actually scalpers.
the guy
Cote is really coming on strong. Don’t get over confident dude. Just keep doing whatever it is your doing. Whatever happened to Travis Loser anyway? Here comes Cote to grab at the belt. Cote versus Franklin would be awesome!

Cote would knock the shit out of Franklin. Franklin is a sloppy slow striker that throws looping punches. Thats why he wasn’t able to connect on Silva. Cote is a technical straight punches holes in your head kinda striker. Cote all day on that one!
Would have love to see this fight. But I just seen on ufc.com that Cote is hurt and will not be able to fight. He is a great fighter and I because a friend of him and the UFC.
