MMAmania.com (www.mmamania.com) has received the fighter payouts for UFC 81: “Breaking Point” from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for the pay-per-view (PPV) event held on February 2 at The Mandalay Bat Events Center in Las Vegas.
No surprise, Brock Lesnar was the top earner of the night, raking in a quarter-million dollars for his 90-second submission loss to Frank Mir. He could have pocketed another $200,000 with a win in his Octagon debut.
Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira took home a nice chuck of change ($200,000) for his stoppage of Tim Sylvia, and Nate Marquardt didn’t make out too bad, either, with his convincing win over Jeremy Horn.
Here are all the UFC 81 payouts:
Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira — $200,000 ($100,000 to show, $100,000 to win)
Tim Sylvia — $100,000
Nogueira defeated Sylvia via submission (guillotine choke) in round three
Frank Mir — $80,000 ($40,000 to show, $40,000 to win)
Brock Lesnar — $250,000
Mir defeated Lesnar via submission (kneebar) in round one
Nate Marquardt — $52,000 ($26,000 to show, $26,000 to win)
Jeremy Horn — $25,000
Marquardt defeated Horn via submission (guillotine choke) in round two
Ricardo Almeida — $40,000 ($20,000 to show, $20,000 to win)
Rob Yundt — $5,000
Almeida defeated Yundt via submission (guillotine choke) in round one
Tyson Griffin — $36,000 ($18,000 to show, $18,000 to win)
Gleison Tibau — $11,000
Griffin defeated Tibau via unanimous decision
Chris Lytle — $24,000 ($12,000 to show, $12,000 to win)
Kyle Bradley — $4,000
Lytle defeated Bradley via technical knockout (strikes) in round one
Tim Boetsch — $12,000 ($6,000 to show, $6,000 to win)
David Heath — $6,000
Boetsch defeated Heath via technical knockout (strikes) in round one
Marvin Eastman— $14,000 ($7,000 to show, $7,000 to win)
Terry Martin — $12,000
Eastman defeated Martin via unanimous decision
Rob Emerson — $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win)
Keita Nakamura — $5,000
Emerson defeated Nakamura via split decision
Keep in mind the salaries listed above do not include fight bonuses, sponsorships, percentages and other unofficial payments. It also does not include deductions for expenses such as insurance, taxes, etc.
For example, the UFC often hands out extra cash for “Fight of the Night,” “Knockout of the Night” and “Submission of the Night.” To check out these figures for UFC 81 go here.
The total base fighter payroll for UFC 81 was $892,000.

REDICULOUS!!! $250,000 for lesnar with one MMA fight in his whole life. Unreal. Dudes a bad ass but reminded me of the first couple UFC’s. Complete brawler but just not experienced at all. Dana White is a complete CHUMP!!! Gives this fucker $250,000 who has no background in mma only wrestling. Who gives a fuck about the name Brock Lesnar. Pay the fighters who show what true mma is about what they should be paid. You got a legend and new UFC Heavyweight Champion Big Nog making less money..getting only $100,000 if he had lost. WHAT A FUCKIN JOKE DANA IS. SHIT REALLY PISSES ME OFF!!
I knew Brock was on big money but thats as much as Randy! Not bad for 90 sec’s work.
4,000 bones? damn that sucks for Kyle Bradley. I could get more money working at taco bell. Fighters should get paid more then that. WEAK!!!

I Want to know what taco bell you are talking about taht will pay me 4k for 15 minutes of work.
I heard Frank Mir got a big Bonus
Its getting better. Im just glad to see that some of the amounts have started to go up compared to past UFC events. I never would have thought that Sylvia and Minotauro would get 100,000 just to show. Thats kinda cool.
You guys should quit whining about how much these guys get paid. These fighters aren’t forced to fight. If they are worth so much more money than they are getting then they should go to another organization and get it.
The assumption that any of these guys deserve anything is wrong. They negotiate the contract for how much they can get. If they do well and put on exciting fights then they get paid more when their contract comes up for negotiation again.
If Tim or Nog were more exciting and marketable fighters they would make more money, simple.

no just 15min. what about all the time spent in the gym.
250 000 is so much more than lesner deserves. makes you shake your head that he gets more than a legend(big nog) and a two time heavyweight champ(sylvia).brutal.and dana wonders why fighters bitch about pay.
Before everyone starts complaining about Lesnar making 250K, think of the PPV sales. The main reason people bought this PPV was to see what Brock was made of. Yeah, it’s not fair that he makes more the Big Nog and Mir, but Mir and Big Nog won’t sell the PPVs Brock will either.
Mania, please let me know what the pay per view sales figures for UFC 81 were, when u find out. I am curious to see the impact Brocks Presence made on the pay per view numbers.
I’ll take a leg bar and tap out for $250,000,hell i”ll even take a shot bye im tired in the first round big nog. heaveyweight class is a wide open class, good luck brock in the future.
Big Nog: “Sylvia is full of vaseline!”
A journal reporter from the biggest newspaper of Brazil travelled with Nog to make a story about his title shot, etc.
So today, there is a full page story on the fight, and its full of interesting stuff, with a picture of Minotauro applying the guillotine.
But there it says that, after Round 1, Minotauro complains that Sylvia has vaseline in his whole body.

I agree, and I am curious to find out what impact Brock had on the sales figures but my $45 should have gone directly in Nogueira’s pockets because he is the only reason I ordered the event….and my Boy delivered…The NEW UFC Heavyweight Champion of the World!!!! The I suggest starting your own MMA organization, lining up 9-10 intriguing fights, renting a venue, promoting the event, buying three hours of satellite time to broadcast your event, etc. Then you can pay the fighters the million dollars each or whatever you think they’re worth, even if it means you lose money after pouring all the time and money in up front. Dana and the Fertittas put a lot of time and money into the UFC and are also entitled to a good profit at the end of the night.
Nog calls out Couture !
I loved it ! If my memory serves me right wasn’t it Randy calling Tito out after he beat Chuck at UFC 43 for the interim LHW title and dogging Tito for not fight over money problems. Now its Randy doing the same shit and now he needs to step up and fight the man that called him out. We all know he heard it to, he was there and I hope that Randy tries to at least make himself look a little better by fighting the man that FINISHED the guy he had to take 5 rounds to beat. Show some class Randy and do the right thing.
If Randy wanted Fedor so bad, he should have took the 3 million Bodog offered him to fight Fedor and took the fight.
Instead:
he chose to return to the UFC to fight Tim Sylvia….Randy doesnt know what the hell he wants. All I know, is I want him to step up fight Nogueira and then go chase Fedor off into the sunset. Time to step up Randy.

GUYS!!! STOP with the “this guy gets paid too much” stuff. He has a NEW contract. Mir has an OLD contract. TRUST me, the way Mir is fighting - he’ll be getting a GREAT new contract on his next signing. Lesner put BUTTS in the SEATS. You guys really need to get a grip. I realyl wish they didn’t post the salaries like Dana talks about because you guys just go nuts - just worry about watching the GREAT fights we had last weekend and easlier this month. Come on - GREAT events coming up as well. Shut up and watch!

Big Nog was the reason I bought the PPV as well(though, I’ll admit I was curious about Brock too). I would have kicked myself if I didn’t get a PPV with a championship bout. I’ve always liked Nog, but I was surprised how nervous I was watching the fight. I was pulling for him more then I thought I would. I’m sure some of that was fueled by my disdain for Timmy. I think Nog will be a great champ. Unless he fights Randy, I’m hoping he holds onto it for a while.
Lesner im sure deserves what he got paid simply cause hes brining in a whole lot more people to watch MMA. But big NoG definitely deserves more then $100,000 id say he should get 200,000 just for showing. The guy was #1 in the world till fedor beat him since then hes constantly been #2 no one especially not randy can even compare to what big nog has done through out his career. 4 losses only and 2 of which were fedor 1 against barnett the real #3 in the world not couture, and he avenged his loss to barnett.
Nog would beat Randy!

Could not agree more!!!!!!!!! i respect randy and everything, but he needs to stop acting like a baby and get in the cage and fight.
Moments after Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira stopped Tim Sylvia at UFC 81 in Las Vegas on Saturday night in stunning fashion after almost being knocked out, UFC president Dana White shared a glimpse of what lies ahead for the new interim heavyweight champion.
“He’s hopefully going to defend the interim title against Randy Couture. … Let’s see who the champion is,” White said. “I expect Captain America to step up to the plate and give Nogueira the opportunity to win the belt.”
Couture is also the current heavyweight champion, but late last year he announced his departure from the UFC and walked away as the champ while still being under contract. But the UFC claimed breach of contract and decided not to recognize Couture’s decision of walking away from the organization, thus still tagging the label of champion to Couture also.
“Couture got knocked out twice by Chuck Liddell (before retiring the first time in 2006) and he called me a year later and said, `I’d like to fight for the heavyweight title,”‘ said White of Couture, who came back and was granted an automatic title shot in March of 2007.
“I gave him that opportunity, (then champion) Sylvia gave him that opportunity and here we are and we expect him to do the right thing and honor his contract. (Couture) needs to step up and give Nogueira the opportunity.”

We can Hate Dana, but he is right about this!
Former Pride fighters that are champions in UFC
We finally can see the former Pride fighters are not underrated:
Minotauro Nogueira: UFC Heavyweigth Champion
Rampage Jackson: UFC Light-Heavyweigth Champion
Anderson Silva: UFC Middleweight Champion
I’m not saying that Pride fighters>UFC fighters but hopefully many UFC nutthuggers are going to STFU.
250,000 for lesnar is INSANE when you look at everyone else’s pay DAMN

Barnett #3? Are you serious? I respect your opinion john, but you need to get over your love affair with Pride. I’m ok with Fedor and Nog being 1 and 2 (even though I wouldn’t agree), but you can’t say a guy is number three when he hasn’t fought since 2006. That’s ridiculous. Even though Barnett beat Randy (back in 2002) I still don’t think he should be ranked ahead of Couture. It’s the same gripe I have with Fedor. Even though I want to consider him the best fighter in the world, he hasn’t fought anyone worth noting since 2005.
Is it me or is the heavyweight division the most debated? If Nog and Randy fought that would go a long way to start settling some of the debate.
Lesnar $250g - Mir $80g how f’d up is that to win and get paid not even half of what your opponent did. Not to mention with your paid doubled up for the victory. THAT SUCKS A LOT!!
Yah but Anderson only fought like 4 fights in Pride, he just like hung out there. Its not like if I stayed at your house for a week or two that that makes me a member of your family. Silve fought everywhere and anywhere and his home was brazil. Only now has he established his fighting home in the UFC.
I think that Brock’s payout (appropriate or not) shows Dana is not as interested in MMA as he is in $$$, if his promotion of fights starts to wane I think he would move to a TNA or WWE type company, that can make a lot of cash quickly.

Andy: That wasn’t my post dude, that was some other imposter that also uses “John” as his screename. So get your facts straight before attacking me. This John has never once claimed that Josh Barnett is the #3 HW in the world…. This was posted by the Real JOHN!
Nah, I think the LW division is the most debated because UFC fighters LW dont get their deserved respect in the world rankings.

Listen the conversation is UFC vs. PRIDE! All the other small organizations dont count. So Anderson Silva fighting in Cage Rage and all the smallers shows means nothing to this discussion so stop bringing it up. We are all aware of that Fact.
Fact is Silva made his “Bones” (as the old school playa’s would say) in PRIDE, therefore he is a Pride fighter.. Wanderlei and Hendo each fought in the UFC b4 pride, but they are still Pride fighters because thats where they had their success.
Facts are that 3 weight classes have former PRIDE fighters as champions and the 2 divisions that still have UFC fighters, wont change because there have been no marquee PRIDE signings in either of those weight classes, except Gono, Chonan, but they arent expected to challenge for any titles any time soon!
The only fighter who cant be labled as a “PRIDE” or “UFC” fighter is Barnett because he has had much success in both organizations.
Big Nogs last 5 wins vs Fedors last 5 wins
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/8…t_Ever_-030208
“No other fighter has defeated and dominated as many top ranked fighters as Nogueira.”
“Emelianenko continuously is fighting second rate fighters and this is tarnishing his legacy.”
Did Dennis Hallams wins keep Matt Hughes from Number 1 when he was at his prime. Do Wands wins stop Rampage from being No 1? No and why should fedor keep Nog from No 1.
5 out of 5 of Fedors last fights have all been against unranked competition. Four out of Nogs 5 have been against ranked competition.
A good argument for him to be considered above Fedor.

GSP was doing his thing as a Canadian Champion in some other org.The UFC pretty much didnt have any of these guys 3 and half years ago. brock was in a postition to leverage that much pay so more power to him. None of the fighters are forced at gunpoint to take the contracts. they can turn them down and fight elsewhere if they really want to. its just the like the real world. if you aren’t happy with yoru wage, you are free to find a better paying one at anytime, but don’t expect your boss to give you a raise because you demand one.

No its actually not….Fedor would beat big Nog 10/10 times big nog only can beat fedor by luck and luck alone. He cant submit fedor and cant stand with fedor isnt as strong as fedor fedor is just plain out better. The only thing big nog has over fedor is a rediculous chin! Rampage is considered #1 only because shogun lost(and boy he has plenty of exchanges marrage/injury/sick/new rules). Rampage has been improving his stand up and the UFC rules favor rampage in a rematch with wendy or shogun.
So no your arguement wouldnt work at all.
I cant belive they paid Brock that much i know that he makes a lot of dough pro wrestling but man come on. what kind of a message does that send to the guys who have been trying to work there way up. there needs to be some kind of rule or fighter organization that can help these fighters get paid what they deserve.
Brock look liked an green horn in there. He is just big and strong and big and strong will get beat by technique every day all day. For the UFC to pay someone with no technique and very litle experience $2500000 us dollars is just stupid. They are probably hitting themselves in the head for such a gamble that never live up to the hype. Come on he was only in there for a Mir 90 seconds LMFAO!!!!!!!!! Idiots!!!!!!!!!!!

go listen to Mir’s radio interview. he said it himself, brock is worth the money because he sold out that arena, that fighters are paid on how many tickets they sell, not on how well they fight. so i highly doubt the UFC is kicking themselves.
All Brock has proven is you need to be more than a good wrestler to win a match. The only thing that really bothered me about Brock was before signing to UFC he was saying he was better than all of these guys in that division. I was hoping Frank would have snapped his knee show him he should have a little more respect. Maybe next time.
I have to admit though. I think that he could have some potential with more training. He moved pretty darn fast for a dude that big.

Yeah but he lost previously to Brandon Vera. I respect your opinion..But the UFC created the persona of “The Natural” and “Captain America”. If it weren’t for the UFC there would be no clothing line for him and he would prolly not have a successfull gym that he has now. Good point. Mir did loose twice after his wreck, but that has nothing to do with Brock getting paid three times as much as him. It does make sense from a business stand point given Brock sells tickets but still.
Im surprised Brock didnt get paid more than what he actually did. I have always gone to this pizza place/bar to watch the fights that is real low key and is always at least a few empty tables when the event starts and when I arrived there at 9 pm Saturday night, it was so crowded that people were outside watching through the window before the damn thing even started. Almost every single one of them was there to see Brock Lesnar. I had to leave cause it was too crowded but ended up watching the fight the next day and Lesnar looked awesome except when he was on top of mir, his punches weren’t utilized correctly. His hammer fists could have been more effective if they were elbows or straight shots cuz mir was rocked, and hammer fists were kind of stupid at that point and even cost him a point for an illegal blow. He could have ended it, so to the people who say Lesnar is a joke, are retarded and to the people who say Lesnar got paid too much, just look at the number of ppv buys. I bet they’re insane.

Man people got to stop complaining about fighters payouts..
Dana, and several fighters have already admitted that after fights, Dana hands out checks like he has money to burn…
Dana judges whether the fighters put on a good show and rewards them for it with bonus checks…
This list that Mania put up is the gaurenteed money fighters recieve for there contract…Dana cant put bonus money in a contract….
If the fighter, fights boring. Then they only recieve money from the contract.. If the fighters fight exciting Dana hooks them up…(and im not talking about the Knockout, Submission, or fight of the night).
People shouldn’t hate on Dana so much. If the fighters really couldn’t get by with the money they make, they wouldn’t fight…
…And I dont want to hear that “Randy cares” shit!
cause if anyone TRUELY knows what Randy wants, Tell Me!!
Because Randy himself doesn’t even know what he wants.

Completly agree John, the Wandi and Hughes arguement is excellent logic.
Brock’s compared to Mir’s pay is ridiculous.
4,000 bones? damn that sucks for Kyle Bradley. I could get more money working at taco bell. Fighters should get paid more then that. WEAK!!!
Agreed!!! You’d have to pay me a lot more than that to take that kind of beating!

This would be a wast of a pay per view.randy would smash this guy so why wast his time this guy gets tired to easily to even make a stupid call out like that.

I hear Mir got a $60,000 locker room bonus…so he didnt do to bad at all!
1/4 mill huh, I guess everyone is pissed that the WWE star is getting WWE pay in the Octagon. good for Lesnar, close to the same pay for no where near the same hours. = Cha-Ching.
Anyway, in all seriousness, he is worth every penny, just look at this blog over the past two weeks.
He is the most famous MMA fighter there is.

LOL… true that! Though I’d say its more a case of over-exposure…
He will def be worth the money if he gets his ground game down! I think Brock could go far in HW with a few more fights..

yeah, but did Randy finish Sylvia? NO. it went to a decision. Nog was able to finish what he started. something randy can’t seem to do in or out of the ring.
Former Pride fighters that are champions in UFC
We finally can see the former Pride fighters are not underrated:
Minotauro Nogueira: UFC Heavyweigth Champion
Rampage Jackson: UFC Light-Heavyweigth Champion
Anderson Silva: UFC Middleweight Champion
I’m not saying that Pride fighters>UFC fighters but hopefully many UFC nutthuggers are going to STFU.
I agree with you 100%. Just match all the guys up and see who the greatest really is. For instance, I love boxing but I hate the fact that there is 4 champs for every weight class. It’s a lot more convenient to have the greatest fighters under one roof and see who the true champ is.
This would be a cool idea but it will never happen: After the fight, fans can rate how exciting a fighter was, then they get bonuses accordingly.
I think that Brock got paid so much not only because of the potential to transfer wrestling fans into MMA fans but because he had to train for a year or more. For this fight, he had to train from being completely new to the sport (his first fight wasn’t really much) to a level where he could try to compete in a fight with a guy like Mir, a former heavyweight champ.
