“I think it’s going to be a good fight. I’m a fan of the sport first and foremost. I think it’s an interesting matchup. Nogueira’s strenght tends to be on the ground and in the submission game and Tim is just a long, strong hard to take down guy who’s got great striking abilities. It’s a classic matchup and for the interim title so they both have a lot on the line. I like Tim’s chances in that fight given Nogueira’s performace against Heath Herring in the last fight. I like Sylvia in a stoppage of some kind.”
– Embattled UFC Heavyweight Champion, Randy Couture, predicts that Tim Sylvia will stop Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira this weekend at UFC 81: “Breaking Point” to win the interim heavyweight title. “The Natural” is correct on his predictions more often than not.

quinton jackson in “midnight meat train” *VIDEO LINK INCLUDED*
so i went to see rambo last night, and im watching the trailers and one comes up called Midnight Meat Train. As im watching it, two thoughts occur: first, its possibly the single gayest title i think ive ever heard for a movie, and second “was that quinton jackson???” check it out! its toward the end and only for a second during the big montage, but you definitely see rampage giving his famous snarl.
thoughts?

That was Rampage. There was a thread on here about that a few weeks back. Everyone already got all the jokes about how it sounds like one of Jenna’s movie titles out of their systems.
Noguerra has never been stopped in an mma fight. He took endless bombs from Fedopr in 2 fights….was never finished. Cro Cop never finished him. Bob Sapp couldn’t KO him, neither could Dan Henderson. Sergei couldnt beat him. I would understand if Randy said Tim would win by stoppage, but finish the fight?…NO WAY. Tim doesn’t have it in him. He hasn’t finished a fight since his 2nd fight against Arlovski. Why should I think that he will be able to finish a guy with pne of the strongest chins in the world?
‘I dont see Tim “gunshy” Sylvia finishing Noguerra. If Randy out boxed him, noguerra will pick him apart. Tim was so worried about Randy taking him down that he got out boxed. If he was worride about going to the ground with Randy, he must be petrified at the thought of going to the ground with Noguerra. This will leave him open to get picked apart standing, then Noguerra will clinch and close the distance, then trip him and get Tim to the ground, and then its Tim to rip his long arm off!
Noguerra is a much better striker then he gets credit for.
Noguerra is taking home the title come Saturday.
If Randy says it, then it will happen. I hope Big Tim is an underdog in this one.
Shogun was interviewed yesterday and he said he is 100% healthy and his opponent and date for his next fight will be released sometime this week or maybe next week…..Stay tuned..
Shogun was interviewed yesterday and he said he is 100% healthy and his opponent and date for his next fight will be released sometime this week or maybe next week…..Stay tuned..
did he confirm if he is going to be on the Canadian card???
Big Tim puts me to sleep when he fights. He couldn’t finish Brandon Vera and he had a broken hand. He is slowly becoming the king of “laying” on a fighter and waiting for the bell.
I hope the Maine-iac gets his ass kicked. His fights are boring.
Got to give credence to Randy’s predictions. I really don’t want to see Timmy win, but I have major reservations about Nogueira coming into this fight. Nogueira’s stand up looks suspect to me. He got nailed by a number of head kicks in the herring fight. Nogueira is going to struggle getting Timmy on the mat and Timmy is a much better striker then Herring. I think Nogueira can end this fight with a knockout too, but if it stays on the feet, he is the underdog.
Maybe Randy is only saying that because he’s beaten Tim. If he’s putting down Tim, then his win over him has less meaning. But if his opinion is unbiased, I trust it. He’s great at predicting fights.

Nogueira’s stand-up is for from “suspect”..
His boxing is pin point with strength behind every blow..He is not just an amazing bjj practicioner. They train everything at Brizillian TopTeam..
Im not sure if you watched PrideFC but if you had, you would not be saying that about Nog..
Nog is one of the best all-rounded fighters in the HW division(anywhere)..
Like John pointed out, Nog has never been finished. And I doubt Sylvia will be the first..
but anything can happen in this sport…
But I still think Nog will win via Submission or TKO late 3rd or early 4th…IMO
Randy prefers fighting strikers. He had predicted Gonzaga to beat CroCop, and stated that Gonzaga’s style would give himself more problems than CroCop’s would. That makes me think that he really thinks Sylvia will beat Nog. On the other hand, he turned the fight against Nog down, and it would look pretty bad if he predicted the fighter he didn’t want to fight to win.

Big Nog has NEVER been KO’d and he has fought much scarier dudes than Tim Sylvia. Does Fedor or a Cro Cop in his prime ring any bells? Of course that doesn’t mean that he can’t get knockedout, but it says that he has a world class chin. With that said, he is going up against Tim Sylvia who hasn’t even TRIED to finish a fight since he fought Half Man - Half Chest Tre Telligman. So unless Randy thinks that Timmy can submit Nogueira (hold on one moment, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA), then I see Randy really going out on a limb on this one.
Speaking of going out on a limb, has anyone seen Giants odds for the SuperBowl better than plus 11.5? I want to find the 13.5 odds that are being talked about and drop some dough on that one. BetUs has it at 11.5 and I’d like to go through them so I could then bet on UFC fights there going forward.

Man that really tells me you have not seen alot of Nog’s PrideFC fights…
Nog’s boxing is at least on the level of Randy Couture(if not better) and Randy out striked Tim anytime he chose to during Randy’s 25 min domination of Tim Sylvia…

I gotta say I agree with Randy. I think that Tim will use his reach and Nog was almost finished by Heath Herring so everyone wants to bring up oh Nog has never been knocked out and blah blah blah. We already know what he is capable of but what has he done lately besides barely pulling it off against Heath Herring. We all know that cro cop is one of the greatest hw on the planet but he has not shown it lately so you kinda have to take that into consideration.

Considering Tim Sylvia has NEVER tried to finish an opponent in the last 2 years does not make him an ideal candidate to be the first to KO nog. WHy? cuz Tim would rather slobber on top of a guy and earn points than to make a fight interesing.
People get caught and nog did in his last fight. that doesn’t make them any less of a fighter. hell Randy got caught twice by Chuck Liddell and he came back to beat Tim Sylvia.
If Sylvia wins, expect it to be another well executed slobber and pray effort on timmy’s part.
I cannot see big nog taking down the giant..
I got love for Randy but I hope to God he is wrong on this one. I would hate to see Tim as HW champ again. That would bring the HW division back 2 years. The good thing is Randy didnt offer much analysis in his prediction so hopefully Randy didnt put much thought in it and it was just an off the cuff comment.

It will be hadr for him to get the traditional “wrestler” takedowns. If Nog can get him up against the cage and use a ju jitsu trip, he could have success.

LOL… good analisys… spot on!
But then again…. does Randy get predictions wrong??
sylvia and mir are underdogs
sylvia 2.7 and mir 2.3 at pinnacle
so could get a $520 win off a $100 bet
i fancy big tims chances
undecided on mirs very tough to guage how good brock will be
So if Randy is right, do we then call for Timmy to fight Fedor?
If this fight stays standing I can see a doctor stoppage to due Nogs eyes closing or a cut opening up. Tim Wins.
If it hits the ground i could see Tim sprall out and Nog grab his head.. miss the guillinte but roll into his famous
Anaconda choke and put the giant to sleep.
VM and John.. you guys are right when you say NOG has faced stiffer competition in Fedor and CC in his prime… but is it fair to say that NOG was also in his prime at that time???
Never the less, I am excited to see what happens in this one.
It would be interesting to see Nog get marketed as champ.
Interim Champ.

i think its going to b tim by tko in the 1st round 4 minutes into the fight. herring had him hurt but didn’t pouce on it. tim won’t make that mistake. i don’t like tim cause if he don’t get them hurt it makes 4 a boring fight. but he’ll b champ again. booooooooooooooooooo! come on if they would just let randy fight fedor outside the ufc that would b great cause then they’d still have the best heavtweight in the world. but they r sewing him or something. I kno, I kno…Mania u r still the man!
Let me break it down. Noguerra’s stand up is indeed better then Randy’s. I think Tim will be more afraid to go to the ground with Noguerra then he was against Randy (and he was terrified against Randy). With that said, all Nog has to do is keep Tim off balance, mix it up between strikes and takedown defense, and I feel that he can out box him, or ju jitsu trip him to the ground (once he gets tim pressed against the cage). Randy provided the blueprint for Nog to beat Sylvia…If Nogguerra can just stick to the script he will win this fight.
By the way, Randy was able to get Tim’s back, but couldnt do anything with it. If Nog gets Tim’s back….it will be nighty night for the webfooted bandit!
Can’t stop Jeff Monson, ain’t stoppin Minatauro.
Will it be Belfort vs Shogun in April?
Vitor announced he will be returning to the UFC in april. Shogun said he will be fighting an unnamed opponant in april or may. This makes sense to me since most other LHW’s are tied up at the moment. It also brings Vitor back in a big fight, and the end result is either a built up Shogun or the long awaited return of the old vitor.
This is just speculation…and I haven’t heard any official news about Vitor being back in the UFC yet, but other people are claiming that he has signed….we will see.
LOL at you guys trying to predict MMA.
Cute
sorry guys but tim will be the champ again.not a big fan of tim’s but i think couture is right.hell Heath Herring fight should have been stopped.i think ref’s are persuaded to favor certain fighters(with the exception on big john) to dana’s liking.but whatever we’ll see saturday.
This is what I read on other sites today. Dont know how reliable this is, but since some of you have been speculating, I will share this:
” Vitor Belfort back to UFC !!!
Vitor is going to make his ufc return in April.
The ufc called him to know if he his ready to fight in April. Vitor says yes. Now he wait for the official annoucement.
Now Vitor is a member of the Minotauro team. He can train every day with Minotauro, Minotouro, Anderson Silva and more.

I wont be surprised if Noguerra tags him up in the stand up. Tim is slow and Offy and has bad reaction time, so he is constantly worried about the takedown (proof is the Randy fight) and leaves himself open to getting hit.
Most strikers are good athletes and sprawl solely on reaction. Chuck doesnt worry about it, he doesnt think about it, he reacts and sprawls. Big Tim doesnt have that sprawl reaction ability so he will have to worry all night about the takedown. If Noguerra is smart he will take advantage of this. Keep him off his feet, fake takedowns, box, shoot in, clinch….If you mix it up on Tim, you can catch him.
I also think Sylvia is some what of a mental midget. I thought he broke down real early in the couture fight and has been a mental case ever since being KO by Arlovski the 1st time. He hasn’t KO anyone in a while. If he thinks he is going to be able to go to the ground and give up his back (like he did to Randy) and not get finished he has another thing comming to him.
If he gets on his back and thinks he can survive by throwing up those goofy legs for triangle attempts (like he did against Monson) Noguerra will pass that guard Fast and it will get real close to the end for Tim
If Tim looses this match, I dont want to see him fight for a title again for at least 3 years. If he Ko’ed Fedor 3 fights in a row, I still wouldnt want to see him fight for the title. I cant stand him. You know how much of my money I wasted on ordering pay per views featuring his dry hump fests…. This is the last chance he gets with me. If this is a boring fight, I will never dish out another penny to the UFC for anything involving Tim Sylvia!!!!!!
AAAAAAhahahahah…WHAT A JOKE hey MMA…COUTURE has completely lost his damn mind…what is wrong with captain america….. did somebody inject him with Red Kryptanite….You think hopefully maybe he wants Sylvia to win so he will fight him again…so he wont have to fight Nog ??????
This is what I read on other sites today. Dont know how reliable this is, but since some of you have been speculating, I will share this:
” Vitor Belfort back to UFC !!!
Vitor is going to make his ufc return in April.
The ufc called him to know if he his ready to fight in April. Vitor says yes. Now he wait for the official annoucement.
Now Vitor is a member of the Minotauro team. He can train every day with Minotauro, Minotouro, Anderson Silva and more.

That`s crazy.
That`s crazy.
Crazy as in you don’t think it will happen, or crazy as in that would be a wicked fight?
I think you’re rig… NOT! Slyvia wins, I’m not sure how, but I don’t believe noguerra has the wrestling takedown skills to get big Tim down. I don’t think he can acomplish on his feet what Couture did so well. I’m sure Tim has now made adjustments for that looping overhand right if it ever happens again.
I will have to agree with you that Noguerra is one tough dude, he can sure as hell take an A beating. I mean that in a complimentary way.
nog SHOULD win, a man a who can go three rounds with fedor twice surely should be able to beat sylvia
sylvia isn’t that slow. nog is actually kind of slow himself.
sylvia by decision more likely imo. I can’t stand sylvia and hope nog wins, but if sylvia avoids the ground, or works good top with a lay and pray he should win. nog doesn’t have to be knocked out to lose, just hurt enough that sylvia has an easy time outpointing him. nog would have an easier time working for a submission if sylvia was actually trying to finish the fight himself and that isn’t very likely.
I was thinking about the HW division from the UFC’s vantage point because I didn’t understand the direction they were going in. Before Couture came out of retirement… Big Timmy was the champ after beating AA 2/3… pretty much taking AA out of the equation because we didn’t want to see best 3/5. Adding CroCop and Nog and the emerging Vera and Kongo gave them more depth. When Couture came out of retirement to beat big Timmy, they were trying to set up a dream matchup between Couture and CroCop, but Gonzaga derailed that plan. Couture’s resignation and not landing Fedor did not put the UFC in any worse position than they already were in before Couture came out of retirement. In fact, by their estimation, they are still ahead of where they were by still having Nog, CroCop, Vera, Kongo, and Werdum in their HW stable of fighters. Nobody can make a valid argument that they don’t have the deepest HW division. However, the UFC can’t say they have the #1 HW in the world until somebody holds the “interim” belt that hasn’t been defeated by Randy or Fedor. Bring Bas Rutten out of retirement (half sarcasm).

Wicked fight.
This saddens me, Randy is looking really old in this pic.
Anyone agree
randy is going for tim cause he bit him is just out to make money cause he wants to fight fedor and make money sorry randy but you are wrong like you were wrong with gonzaga and werdum you dont deserve the honor to fight fedor only comming out of retirement and having 2 and thinking you deserve to call your self top contender people wake up!!!!
As my comrade ” John ” has slated in an article of his..check out how UFC handles Pride fighters. Look at the fighter’s that got a warm up type match and the ones that got a tuf first fight in the UFC.
Warm up’s
Anderson Silva
Rampage Jackson
Cro Cop ( who is the only one unsuccessful ) 1-2
Big Nog
No Warm up’s
Shogun
Wandy
Sokoudjou
Look up some of Big Nog’s Highlights. He is a beast.
in 30 fights he has “18!!!” submissions. After UFC 81..make it 19.
Silva got a warmup fight and has done well. Calling Jacksons first fight (to someone WHO BEAT HIM last time they met) a warmup is like calling Chucks 2nd fight against Page a warmup fight for Chuck. Nog hasn’t done anything yet after his warmup. So, Silva is doing good after winning his warmup fight. Untill some of these other Pride fighter start winning,I think it’s a little early to accept this theory based on Silva as the lone example.
That’s what Monson thought too. Maybe Monson isn’t as good as Nog, but he had NOTHING on Tim on the ground. Nog will also have trouble dealing with that big ape’s size. Randy’s striking was more effective than AA’s against Tim. I can’t see Nog teeing off on Tim’s head as much as Randy did. Randy’s supperior wrestling makes his striking more effective than Nogs, at least agaist Tim. I guess we will find out on saturday.

I agree gord. Randy’s stand up is better. NOg just takes a punch good, that’s it. And Tim’s size will be an issue on the ground as well, like you said.

Excellent logic Gord, looks like some are still trying to drag on the Pride/UFC debates. I was convinced there was an equal distribution of talent between the two, but after the influx of Pride fighters, I will have to say I might slightly favor UFC now. On top of everything, Pride was also way less regulated, as far as steroids and that.
