i rewatched the herring / nog fight a couple of times.
herrings face looked a bit like like hannibals flesh face after nog
herring, had taken a fair bit of punishment before the ONE big kick. he wasn’t in great shape at the end of the 1st and beginning of second rnds. i also think he was afraid of nog’s guard. that explains why he didn’t seem to really go all out for the finish.

also he didnt really go for much in the way of takedowns.

big tim will also wanna keep it standing.

nog walked right into a full strength kick by herring and survived (otherwise he was outclassed pretty much the whole time- even the first before the head kick).

so,
big tim aint likely gonna KO Nog. nog hits at least as hard as couture but boxes better.
i think tim will be even more concerned about taking it to the mat with nog than couture.
he may wanna cage clinch like he did against vera that worked OK. tim is hard to takedown up close or from a distance.

nog isnt obsessed with getting takedowns. in fact with elbows he probably wants to be on his back less. if it gets to a lot of sprawling tim will be strugglin. i like big tim and dont mind his lay and prey fights – vbut i cant see him winning this one

Just to show how stupid this Pride vs UFC thing is , Henderson was a UFC fighter who went to pride and took TWO of THEIR BELTS. The compotition in the UFC was too tough for him to win two belts,but in Pride it was easy.

If you want to really break down how Pride fighters have fought in the UFC, check this out. Most of the Pride fighters that got a UFC warm up fight have went on to put themselves in title contention. The one’s who didnt get a warm up fight and were thrown against top UFC fighters right away have not done good.

1.Rampage got a warm up fight against Marvin Eastman, he got the Octagon Jitters out and came back to Take the title.
2.Anderson Silva got a warm up fight against Leiben, and then went on to take the title.
3.Noguerra got a warm up fight against Hearing and he in now ready to take the title.

on the other hand Pride fighters who fought top competition with no warm up fights lost:
1.Shogun got thrown in there right away against Forrest and lost.
2.Sokoudjou lost to Machida in a fight in which the octagon jitters got the best of him
3.Wanderlei was thrown right in with Chuck and lost

All the fighters to have had a warm up fight have done well with the exception of cro cop.
Those who had to fight top contenders right away lost.

Could there be something to this trend? I dont want to see any more Pride fighters accept big UFC fights without giving them a warm up fight first.

Pride fighters are dominating the heavier divisions of the UFC. Why have the Pride fighters not dominated the lighter divisions? Thats simple, becaus ethe UFC hasn’t signed any welterweight or Lightweight fighters from Pride except Ryo Chonan who was thrown in there against Karo with no warm up fight.

When will the UFC bring in some Pride Lightweights and welterweights? I hear that Gomi is close to landing in the UFC. If he does, I hope they manage his career the right way. Give him a warm up fight 1st. I would suggest a simular situation as Noguerra. Give Gomi a warm up fight against Aurelio who he fought twice already. Like Noguerra got to warm up against Hearing whom he had fought twice already.

Hellboy
Gomi
Mach
Gilbert
JZ
Shaolin Ribeiro

All of this could be summed up with , Rampage and Silva are doing great, the rest suck (so far). Page and Silva are dominant,yes, but to say Pride is dominating the top 3 divisions is laughable.

John, how is Nog going to do all of that when he is laying on the mat unconcious? Yes, I’m familiar with Nog and I still say Tim wins. I can’t stand Tim, but Tim still wins.

i think we are going too see a MUCH IMPROVED STRIKING GAME FROM NOGUEIRA in this fight.

hes gonna start off feeling out tim, throw a few kicks then wait for tim to throw a jab, duck under, get inside, clinch, throw a few knees, hopefully stay this way for a while, take big tim down, or more likely pull guard and work his submission magic.

I dont see nog being able too take tim down, his TD is pretty good, but nog is the best mma fighter in the world at fighting off his back, and timmy is not gunna be able to KO him, fedor hit nog with some fucking POWERFUL punches in their encounters and couldnt finish him.

Too be honest, i dont think the fight is going too be a barn burner, more of a technical chess match type of fight ending in submission.

If there is one thing I’ve learned. I have stopped paying to see Tim Sylvia fight. At least as a headliner…
I still see the fights I just dont pay for the ones i don’t think are worthy.

Anyway, every Timmy fight I get rev’d up because i always think this is it!… the old tim sylvia is back.
And of course im disappointed win or lose.

But I would love the return of Tim “I just caved in Cabbages face” Sylvia. That Tim will wreck most of the HW division.
Sadly the more recent Tim will dry hump his way to a decision victory.

I want Nog to lose. No particular reason, i just do.
I want Mir to be back… Old Mir vs. Nog could be very interesting.
