“I just hope that the fans see the potential we see down here in Iowa. I want them to see the explosiveness of this new threat in the lightweight division. There are a lot of great guys out there and I’m still far away from where we’re trying to go, but we’re looking for me to be the Anderson Silva of the lightweights. There’s not that standout, terrible guy that everybody’s afraid of, and I essentially want to be that guy.”
– Popular contestant on season five of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), Corey Hill, tells UFC.com that he aspires to one day be a devastating force in the lightweight division much like champion Anderson Silva is in the middleweight class today. The 6′4″ beanstalk is set to make his official Octagon debut against Joe Veres next week at UFC Fight Night 12 on January 23 from The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He would be better off just creating a new imaginary friend who’s as good as Silva.
Ok, didnt this nut job LIE about his pro MMA record… So technically this guy (with the exception of the fights on the TUF show) has had NO pro MMA fights… So he is actually starting out as good as anyone of us… Shit I see his name vaporizing after his debut..
Corey is long way from being a ” Anderson Silva “..Pat Miletich is training him..I see him more of Kendall Grove of the LW division..he has the tools to be good..to be grest you need the something that goes beyond..physical..mental game..Corey will have the opportunity to showcase his talent.
the lightweight division is proving to be incredibly competitive. good thing they brought it back. Go Huerta!

To be accurate he has had 1 pro fight, a 37 second KO over some dude making his mma debut.I get your point. He wants to be Anderson Silva….Dont we all, he will be lucky to become assuerio Silva
Uh.. i really doubt corey will be able to be champ, but he could be a guy like jorge rivera that gets beat by everybody late in his career. Bj would break both his arms at once, stevenson would go for a guillotine and pull his head off, sherk would roid lay on him so hard he’d break a rib, and strikers like huerta would just make him look like hong man choi getting head kicked by a guy over a foot shorter
I respect his drive and determination. Who are any of you to doubt the guy?
With his height he could be a great striker. I didn’t see that on the TUF series as he fought smaller than he is, but with the right training he could be scary for LW fighters. With a good guard and some BJJ defense he could really go far. Fig4, anaconda from the bottom would be easy for him. Plus, as he ages, he could move up weight classes and still always have a height/reach advantage. Champ maybe not, but long-time journeyman easily.
he is crazy. he is not a the level of A.silva
thats weird, i thought anderson silva was trying to be the corey hill of the middleweight division
Beside being dark hes got nothing in common with Silva, I don’t think he’ll make a dent in the LW div.
he’s only fought once
I respect his drive and determination. Who are any of you to doubt the guy?
Let’s see…
1) This assclown LIES about his record to get into “The Ultimate Fighter.”
2) By virtue of a smattering of drills, classes, and boocoo swaggering bullshit, he makes everyone believe he can kick ass and take names.
3) How many people would kill to be in his spot? How many are trying in earnest to be a champion? This guy lies, cops to it after the fact, and I’m supposed to respect his determination?
It’s cool that this dellusional mamaluke hopes he’s gonna be more than a skidmark, but for him to compare himself to bonafide champions? I see this strung out meatsack, and I can hear the words of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman from “Full Metal Jacket,” “I didn’t know they stacked shit that high!”
Is he out of his GD mind????? Dream on buddy….
These guys have to set lofty goals to fight for, albeit it is quite a high goal and maybe even an unattainable one, but good on him for putting it out there - this fight with Veres is going to be a good test for him.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!! Hold on let me get another breath…..HAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHHHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
It all starts with wanting something. I can rhyme off lots of guys on PPV’s that don’t seem to want anything.
Melvin Guillard. He wants to Party. Not much else.
Also see Drago after his Phil Baroni win.
Then ask someone like Forrest Griffin about wanting to be somebody. He never said he was the toughest guy, but, he likes to fight and wants to be a champion.
Corey Hill can do whatever Corey Hill will allow.
I’m looking forward to him trying to be Anderson Silva @ LW.
i think this guy will be a decent fighter but i dont think he will ever be a champion or a top five lightweight. I think he will be a decent fighter but i dont see him being able to deal with the strenght of these other fighters.
haha, i liked corey on the show. looked like a hard guy to fight, but i think he needs more experience.
so you guys want him to aspire to be what? a shitty fighter? whats wrong with him wanting to be Anderson Silva. Hill’s got talent and the natural size advantage. I’m not saying he’s anything special right now but he improved a lot while we watched him on the show. If Miletich sees something great in him then whats the problem? The only problem i have with that comment is “the new threat in the lightweight division”.. loong way away from a threat but i wouldnt mind watching him become one.
LOL this guys is halarious, dream on.
Should he have said he wanted to be the Lw version of Zulu. Ort may’be he wants to be the LW version of Elvis Sinosic. Would that make some of you happy? Corey Hill probably never make it to championship level but one can dream, can’t they?
So what he lied about how many pro fights he had? Whats important is that he made it on the show and made it to the semis. Now he’s traing with one of the best fight camps in MMA. Good for him.
I say Corey Hill if you want to be the Anderson Silva of the LW division go ahead and try. If you put the hard work in to make it there why not?
Hey, wait! I want to be Anderson Silva. Dorian, you can be Danny Abadi.
Sorry, I meant Corey. Oh, almost the same thing though.
That was one of the few headlines that had me actually laugh out loud!
Of course Corey’s trainers are going to tell him that he is looking good - they need to boost his confidence. What does he expect to hear from his trainers, “Way to go Corey, you look like crap. I sure can tell that you’ve only been training for a year, you scrub”
Maybe, if the worlds align and after 10 years of training, just maybe.
Hey give him some credit for actually aspiring to be something unlike some people ie the folks on here giving him crap for example.at least he has the balls to step up and try to do his best and then some
Settle down Cory. U would be killed by any real contender.

YOU may be the only one other than I to notice his talent, he’s got a great wrestling background, great potential in striking… his ground game, chin and heart and training are the question.
If he applies himself correctly, YES, he could be a top 5 contender in this weight class relatively soon.
No way this guy can be a contender anytime soon. Look at the people he will have to face going to the top: Sherk, Florian, Huerta, Guida, Stevenson, Penn.
I think he’d even have trouble against Danzig, JLau, and Nate Diaz.
Me too

1. The guy lied to get on the show, and now he is fighting in the UFC.
2. He beat Rob Emerson, not bad for someone with no experience. He also gave Nate Diaz a little bit of a fight.
3. Now he is busting his rear up on Iowa trying to be a champion someday, and admits he has a long way to go. Corey has some goal.
I guess everyone has the right to have dream and aspirations…even if all of us know that it will never come true. You just keep listening to your camp Corey and not only will you be the next Anderson Silva of the LW division, you will be a combination of Anderson Silva, Fedor, Randy and Godzilla all in one LW fighter.
He would be better off just creating a new imaginary friend who’s as good as Silva.
Funny.
i dont see what the big deal is.everyone bashing him because he hopes one day to be great.i dont see nothing wrong with wanting to be the best at what you do.not saying he will be as great as Anderson Silva, but at least the guy has some drive.he wants to be good, no harm in that.
p.s. it is kinda funny though
“OMG HE’S A TOTAL NEWB, HOW DARE HE HAVE GOALS IN LIFE!!!” lol you guys are a bunch of haters.
”OMG HE’S A TOTAL NEWB, HOW DARE HE HAVE GOALS IN LIFE!!!” lol you guys are a bunch of haters.
I think he’s basing his “goals” on the fact that his skin complexion and body type are like Silva’s. So…. it’s going to take a lot more than that.
Like, I dunno… becoming a world class Muay Thai Fighter.. or I dunno, having a BJJ black belt.
But sure.. he’s on his way, I guess.. ?
1. The guy lied to get on the show, and now he is fighting in the UFC.
The key bit here is that HE LIED TO GET ON THE SHOW. Sooner or later that karma is gonna come back to bite him on his ass. And just because he’s in the UFC doesn’t mean as much as it used to. Zuffa just gave walking papers to a bunch of TUF6 fighters. Theoretically those guys could have rounded out a Fight Night (with an unaired fight, of course) and those guys could lay claim to being bona fide UFC fighters. Yawn.
2. He beat Rob Emerson, not bad for someone with no experience. He also gave Nate Diaz a little bit of a fight.
And as many people here have pointed out, all it takes is one lucky punch. Anybody with a fair degree of training will know how to take advantage of that moment of weakness and go for a victory.
3. Now he is busting his rear up on Iowa trying to be a champion someday, and admits he has a long way to go. Corey has some goal.
So what. Is Iowa some kind of MMA mecca? Good as he is, is Miletich worthy of the kind of reverence one shares for long lost Shaolin Fighting Monks? I am not shitting on Miletich or the fighters he’s trained, but let’s look at things frankly. As long as you can make it through the classes, pay the tuition fees, and you behave well, most any school will take you. That does not necessarily mean he is a student with great promise or a lot of potential. So what if he has a goal. Whoop-de-fuckin-doo. Should I be impressed that he can chew food with his mouth closed? Should I be impressed with the fact that he has just enough gray matter between his ears to train with someone who can give him an ass-whooping?
”OMG HE’S A TOTAL NEWB, HOW DARE HE HAVE GOALS IN LIFE!!!” lol you guys are a bunch of haters.
EVERYONE should have goals in life. If you don’t, you’re a waste of carbon.
Let’s assume for a brief moment that Corey Hill is earnest about his desire to learn MMA and he indeed wants to be as good as Anderson Silva. As bostonmmajunkie pointed out, there’s a long list of fighters standing in between Corey Hill and a belt. They got to where they are WITHOUT LYING (well except for Sherk), and they have all forgotten more than Corey Hill will ever know about MMA.
Corey is a typical “Johnny Come Lately” to the MMA world. Sure, aspiring to become another Anderson Silva is a great goal.
Unfortunately, Corey is fast approaching middle age (30’s), where father time and a steep learning curve will become a big obstacle for him.
I cant wait to see cory fight. I think he will do well.
But there is a difference in doing well and being top 5 LW in UFC.
So Cory lied give him props for having balls.
So hes a bit of a freak of nature, at least hes not your generic fighter. It will add a bit of deminsion to those fighting him or make for interesting fights.
I would like to see Cory fight vs Dorian there is a bit of a weight difference but Cory would whup his tail bad.
Cory could have beat Nate Diaz, really though if he wasnt so inexperienced he wouldnt have bothered trying to play Diaz game. Nate is nothing really if he and Manny fought ten times I see Nate winning 2 fights maybe 3 and thats stretching it.
Go for it Cory, Give us good fights and crack some heads.
Dont stick with one camp for too long and see what you can get out of different groups.
it takes more then a big mouth to be at andersons silvas level
like many before me said, who are we to doubt him. he definatley has the body to do good but he needs a good mind, plus i try to make my style like silva,so cant blame him
Ya, he is just like anderson silva… they are both mediocre muay thai practioners, but after the diaz fight of corey’s and silva’s display against lutter i gotta give the edge to hill on the ground. Lucky for anderson Hill is two weight classes below because despite the dominant skill set he also has the height advantage. I think that corey will be in the back of silva’s mind, and hope silva can put that past him and focus on hendo. Still he may want to consider skipping the possible move to LHW and go straight to heavyweight or maybe even m-1 to fight sewer mutants because a freight train has targeted anderson as a goal and he better get off the tracks.
i wanna be like urijah faber, michael jordan, tom brady, wayne gretzkey, kurt angle, tiger woods, jeff gordan, barry bonds-sean sherk, mia hamm, and brian urlacher. a guy can have goals cant he?
it’s great that he wants to great. go, train. do your best corey! u can do it! but uh.. get a few (more) wins under your belt before you say things like that in interviews.
Hopefully someone has done considerable work with him, b/c if I remember TUF correctly, he was holding his hands down around his waist. Hard to block a punch that way.
Did you people want him to say that his training camp is training him to be the next Joe Riggs of his weight division. A stepping stone to all new comers?
LOL!!! Oh my…I needed a good laugh this morning. Whew…I have to catch my breath. He was joking right!? No…Seriously…he was joking…wasn’t he!!!???
I want to be like Hugh Hefner
He needs at least three years to learn ju jitsu, wrestling and kick boxing before he can be called a fighter..
He needs at least three years to learn ju jitsu, wrestling and kick boxing before he can be called a fighter..
This statement needs to be edited out and removed from this discussion mania….
If you guys remember on the show that jeremy horn was really impressed with hill’s raw talent and wanted to work with him after the show, the fact is that the guy is really tall for his weight class and that kinda makes him a threat, thats why emerson couldnt find his range. With that said I did’nt like Coreys antics on the show the way he pumped him self up for a fight, the guy is just strange and kinda annoying, the key to beating him is on the ground which almost all top ten lw’s are good at so I dont think this guy goes to far in the division or the ufc period
Cory Hill is entertaining and he is a bit of a freak of nature for a lite weight. I personally hope he does well.
If he had the chance to ground and pound some of you “couch potatoe coaches”, then you might shut your yaps long enough to understand its not easy being a fighter.
Go for it Buddy Rowe!!!

Since everyone’s throwing in their two cents, here’s mine:Corey Hill does not fight like A. Silva–Silva oozes confidence and ridiculous, unmatched talent. What Hill does have is height and reach like no other. He definately showed good work ethic in TUF 5, and now he’s in a good camp. The next few years will be a huge learning experience for him, but I can definately see him a LW contender after that time.
