“Gumby” is back!
Veteran Jeremy Horn (79-16-5) will fill-in for the injured Thales Leites against Nate Marquardt (25-7-2) at UFC 81: “Breaking Point” on February 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to UFC.com.
Here’s the full snip:
“Returning to the Octagon for the first time since back to back wins over Trevor Prangley and Chael Sonnen in 2005-2006 , respected middleweight contender Jeremy Horn will replace injured Thales Leites and face Nate Marquardt on February 2nd’s UFC 81 card in Las Vegas.”
At just 32 years old, Horn is already legend in the sport of mixed martial arts. He has competed off and on inside the Octagon since 1998. His last appearance was in May 2006, submitting Chael Sonnen via armbar at UFC 60: “Hughes vs. Gracie.”
The last two years Horn has taken a much deserved break from competition, focusing primarily on training fighters. However, he did take three fights during that time and lost two of them (Matt Lindland and Jorge Santiago).
Marquardt is looking to rebound from his loss to UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva, at UFC 73: “Stacked” back in July 2007. He was set to face Thales Leites (again), but the Brazilian sustained a broken hand while training for the bout and was forced to withdraw.
Let’s hope the condensed pre-fight training schedule does not affect Horn and we see a great fight on SuperBowl weekend.

Awesome. It is a more exciting card than the original.
Jeremy Horn..he has fought over 100 fights. If he is still at his prime, should be an awesome fight..If not an easy cruise for Nate the great
cant believe he came back to the ufc should be a good one
I agree, its nice to see Horn back in the UFC. When it comes to true mma experience, I dont’t think anyone has an edge over Jeremy Horn. Jeremy would take a fight on 1 days notice, so with close to a month to prepare, he’ll be just fine.
this fight card just got better. although Thales it a bit more explosive than Horn, Horn is just the MAN. I was really hoping they would get a replacement that would be Marquardt worthy. Good things
This fight will be great once it goes to the ground.
no remeber horn was on his feet with chuck i dont see marquadt knocking him out , and on the ground i give horn the edge although he did get rocked by lindland but damn evrybody gets caught i mean 2 fights that he was stopped in over 100 is not bad
can’t wait to see this…
Awesome.
I am not sure why Nate took this fight, its not going to boost him up the ladder to another title shot.
Jeremy is dangerous. He went up a weight class and lasted till the 4th Round with the best 205 pounder at the time, Chuck. He also went all the way with Anderson Silva. People just cant knock this bloke out.
Anyway, Nate is my favourite fighter and hope he kick ass.
I hope Horn tools that walking snoozefest.
horn has like 120 fights under his belt, including a win over liddell. in my opinion, Nate is a bum, and if he could not handle Anderson on the ground, Horn will eat him up and spit him out.
horn wins in first round via triangle choke.
does horn need to drop like 50 pounds or somthing?
I recently saw Horn fight here in Utah to take the State Middleweight belt away from Court McGee. Mcgee is not a UFC caliber fighter, but he is decent and extremely strong and athletic.
Horn still looks like a deflated pilsbury dough boy, but it’s just a ficade. The guy has an incredible head for fighting and it’s surrounded by some strange impenatrable iron. Horn came out with a very fast pace and maintained it until he finished McGee.
Recently Horn hasn’t looked so good against top competition. In his last 3 fights he was TKO’d once, submitted once, and pulled out one decision.
He always puts on a good show and shows up with a solid game plan. So I’m phsyched to see it.

Am the only one that thinks this fight will be about as exciting as Tim Sylvia vs. Monson’s snoozefest? Not that I dont think that Horn is skilled because he is a great ju jitsu guy with worlds of experience, but lets be real…he has looked crappy recently. Marquardt is a bore and I think that this is a terrible idea for an already crappy card.
Its seems as though everytime I come on this site, UFC 81 gets worse and worse. I hope that the pay per view numbers are horrible so that Zuffa stops thinking that they can throw together any old card and it sell big numbers.
They should charge $44.95 to watch the UFN and give us this event for free. They have the audacity to call thi the event of the year! lol
i wish it where leben or someone else stepping up for the fight but horn is always willing to step up on short notice in alomst any wieght class.i do agree with john though it could be a boring fight i hope not.
Good, technical match-up. In some ways a tougher opponent for Nate than Leites. I still have to agree that 81 is a disappointing card, though.
Nate will abuse Jeremy Horn.

I agree John. But at the very least, I’m hoping for it to be a technical fight. If these two keep it standing, I’m going to bed.
KaveDaddy - I am not sure why, but I am affraid this may happen to. Just hoping Nate is as technically sound as he was against the BoogeyMan.
Good to see Horn back.
I am damn excited about this one.
Jeremy Horn is a big name - exactly what the middleweight division needs. (I don’t think it necessarily lacks talent, I think it lacks the big names that people care about).
It’s good to see a credible fighter return to the UFC. Despite his last fight, Horn is still worth watching, given his past experience.
just have to find 6 or 7 more replacement fighters and this’ll be a good card.

LOL!!!
Beware of Gumby! Nobody loves to fight like Jeremy Horn.
The dude will get hit to throw one back at you. I think Nate’s got heavier hands then people think.
I hope we all get surprised. I would Love to see Horn and Jmac hook up. C-L-I-N-I-C.
Jeremy horn some what resembles Slath on the Goonies.

U r right VM, the only way for this fight to be exciting is if they just go right to the ground and turn it into a technical grappling match……Could u imagine a stand up fight between these 2? LAME!
With these two submission fighters this match should have some great BJJ.
Horn looses this one. Then a rematch between Silva and Marquardt.
glad to see horn back i think this actually might be a better fight than planned,
Anyone with that many fights under their belt deserves respect.
