randy couture ufc betting

Quoteworthy:

“The host of the event is UFC fighter Randy Couture…. Owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks Mark Cuban, Jose Canseco, and Montel Williams are scheduled to attend, along with poker players Jamie Gold, Sammy Farha, Todd Brunson, Hoyt Corkins, and Pam Brunson. The buy-in is $550 with $200 rebuys and one $200 add-on at the first break. Seating is limited to 150 players, but there are still seats available and open to the public…. Players will compete for a guaranteed prize pool [$50,000], and the additional money will be donated to the Xtreme Couture GI Foundation….”

Mark Cuban? Conspiracy theorists conspire! For more on the Xtreme Couture GI Foundation and “Operation All In” go here. Sign-up if you can muster up the buy-in — it sounds like a great time … and an even greater cause.

I don’t give a shit if Mark Cuban gets dressed up in a sparkly tube top. This is being done for charity, and I for one would have liked to see that the Fertitta brothers and Dana White say that they’re gonna put up teh seed money for any number of random participants.

I guess those guys have other things to worry about than giving back to the GIs, eh?

Well if Randy and Fedor don’t fight they should at least play each other in a game of poker.

How do you know how much the Fertitta’s and DW donate to charity? From what I’ve read the Fertitta’s donate more than Randy makes in a year. Your rant is somewhat childish.

Childish it may be, dude, but the Fertitta brothers seems to be like absentee landlords, and all Dana White knows of business ethics could be summed up in a cursory appreciation of Machiavelli’s “The Prince.” To their credit, the UFC has dominated MMA on a global scale, and if it weren’r for Chris Albrecht going apeshit, we’d be seeing the UFC on HBO and not crappy reruns.

Yes, I know the UFC did a tour to support our fighting men and women with Randy, Rich Franklin, and Rachelle Leah, and they did an event on a Marine Corps base, but the latter was precious little than a publicity event. Randy has never forgotten his service in the Army, and he has given back. I’d really like to see what Zuffa can do past some publicity events.

And for the better part, this is a rather incendiary piece to begin with. So what if Randy has a guest associated with a high profile rival to Zuffa? Did anybody question the fighting skills or coaching acumen of either Pat Milletich or Renzo Gracie when they settled in with the IFL?

What I’m getting out of this piece is that no matter what you may think of the current US administration, and no matter what you may think about the US Armed Forces in Iraq and in Afghanistan, the best thing is to support our troops. Tragedy has a wonderful way of bringing divergent parties together, united in support of a greater cause. In this case, is a bunch of dudes in Vegas playing cards and raising boocoo dough to help out the armed forces. Bravo.

So if you hear about a charity event held by someone else, and Randy isn’t there….he is a horrible person?

An article about Fedor and M1 was posted a few days ago saying that M1 wanted to Co-host events with other mma companies. Further along in the article it said that Fedor does want to fight Randy and is willing to fight anyone on american soil. This makes me believe the Cuban is gonna be behind it and hopefully get a match between the 2 when Randy’s contract is up…. If this is the case….Dana should jump the gun and try and schedule the fight under the UFC and M1 banner.

Who really gives a shit what the circumstances for the charity is as long as stuff is being done for Charity. Both Randy and the UFC do for charities. Why does everybody always try to find shit in the beauty of a rainbow? The writer even says, “Conspracy theorist, conspire!” LEt’s draw some more assumptions based on this article. Jose Canseco & Randy Couture=cycles of Winstrol or Sustanol. No wonder why Randy can still compete at his age. MOntell Williams also must be on the juice that would explain his outbursts on how he was going to blow up a reporters house because he did not like the questioning. Typical roid rage behavior…

I live in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area, and have actually had the opportunity to sit and chat with Cuban. I can tell you all that he is a very charitable man and cares about the troops, regardless of what some people on this thread say. He purchases plane tickets to get troops home for the holidays when they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford to fly home. He frequently donates Dallas Mavericks courtside seats to troops in the area, and he makes sure that any time season ticket holders are unable to attend a game that the tickets get to service men and women rather than go unused. Some people around the country may not like him because he can come across as a loudmouth at times, but everyone in D-FW loves him.

From a purely business perspective, Dana and Cuban are very similar in that they both brought themselves up from nothing to earn their fortunes with highly successful companies. UFC would have been defunct long ago if not for Dana, and Cuban made his fortune by creating broadcast.com, which Yahoo! bought for $4 billion. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if HDNet Fights becomes a pretty big entity in the next few years, and Randy will be a part of it.

There’s a part of me that admires and respects Dana White specifically for his vital part in revitalizing the UFC. He came up from incredibly humble beginnings, but the problem I have with him is an apparent reticence to understand that fostering competition amongst lesser fight organizations can only help MMA in general. Zuffa is the 800-pound gorilla. Nothing is likely to unseat the UFC, and while Zuffa is under no obligation to lend growth advice to other organizations, a modicum of respect and diplomacy would be needed in the least.

I don’t know much about Mark Cuban, and Jose Conseco’s name in sports is about as clean as a Hunts Point hooker, but if they have dough, and if they have the hearts, I say well done, gentlemen. Keep giving to the troops, but don’t make a hellaciously big stink about it.

I think it’s pretty childish of Dana and the UFC to keep Randy the champion just so they can sue him after he fights Fedor. I think maybe if Randy would have went about about this whole situation a little better than he did then the situation wouldn’t be where it is now. But then again who knows. To me Randy has paid his dues and helped this orginization grow so they should just go their seperate ways with no hard feelings.
