Condit vs Prater: WEC to feature three title fights live from Albuquerque on February 13
By: Jesse Holland
World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) is putting three championships up for grabs live from the Santa Ana Star Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico on February 13.
Headlining the card will be Albuquerque native and WEC welterweight champion, Carlos Condit (21-4), as he defends his title against Thugjitsu’s own, Carlo Prater (21-5-1).
Condit is fresh off an impressive submission victory over Brock Larson at WEC 29. He looks to cement his place as the WEC’s top welterweight by avenging his first professional loss - that came at the hands of Prater during Fightworld 2 back in 2004.
Also on the card former UFC lightweight Jamie “The Worm” Varner (13-2) tries to dethrone WEC’s lightweight juggernaut, “Razor” Rob McCullough (15-3). Varner was successful in his WEC debut against Sherron Leggett but will have all he can handle against McCullough who is undefeated (9-0) since 2004.
Rounding out the title bouts will be defending WEC bantamweight champion Chase Beebe (11-1) as he takes on submission master Miguel Torres (19-1). Beebe won the WEC title by defeating Eddie Wineland at WEC 26 last March but may find Torres - who has only one decision loss in 20 fights - a difficult hurdle to overcome.
The event will be televised live nationally on VERSUS beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT. Tickets go on sale Saturday, January 12 at noon and are priced at $185, $115, $65, and $35. Tickets are available at Gettix.net or by calling 1-866-442-8849.
The remaining bouts for WEC: “Condit vs. Prater” have yet to be announced. Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for the all upcoming details.
*UPDATE* Manny Tapia (9-0-1) vs. Antonio Banuelos (14-4) has been added to the WEC lineup for February’s event.

I figured Alessio should’ve gotten another shot at Condit after rolling off 3 wins after his loss to Condit…just some thoughts though…cheers.
WOW they dont even show carlos condit’s opponent on the picture must suck for calo prater.
Now why can’t EliteXC put together a card like this? WEC puts together three title fights on each card. EliteXC gives us Kimbo vs. Can Of The Week. ? LOL

thank you producers of showtime for the card selections…they just care about a big ratings draw by using his name as much as possible and bill goldber caling a shitty commentary…..thats why ufc didnt let hbo try to run ufc shows…cuz theyd get to produce it however they wanted to.
The WEC is the #2 MMA organization. Miguel Torres is an excellent fighter. He’s the type of fighter that is always moving around looking for submissions (a la BJ Penn). This will be an excellent card. The WEC rocks.
Gotta give props to the WEC, they put together the best fights they can and they always have title defenses.
this will be my last post on a ufc website because I’m boycoting the UFC until Rob Emerson is band. For those of you that haven’t heard he was part of a gang of rich kids that went around beating people. Then this year he just got arrested again. The guy sucks anyways.
WEC=MMA with less Drama/controversy! and some damn good free fights. Bring it on!
i think carlos condit is the man! I would like to see him fight some one like karo or kos
razor rob is one of the sickest lightweights out right now most consistent and just dam nasty

A moment of silence for the last posting of… wait, who the hell are you? Nevermnind, I guess.
Carlos is ufc material..I just saw a Prater fight on HDnet fights and he had real exciting action back and for in the Art of War..that can be good fight to see.

I think EliteXCs shows are great aswell…
But god do I love the WEC. Everyone fights with fire, trying to make the big time. End up seeing much more aggressive fighters, and not really sloppier.
I was impressed with their last card i found something to watch now inbetween ufc cards the only thing that sucked last time is that the undeserving champion filho kept his belt that white boy was tooling him. anywho Faber and Pulver very impressive.
Zuffa owns both WEC and UFC. Why do the WEC cards move seamlessly from fight to fight with a minimal amount of hype and BS while with UFC cards, PPVs in particular, they feel the need to show every last moment of drama between the two fighters, from one guy laughing at the other guy, to a weigh-in shove, to a trash-talking interview? It’s completely unnecessary, especially given that everyone who’s watching has already bought the PPV anyway. Most people watch the fights because we enjoy the skill and pace of the fights and enjoy watching fights. All that crap in the middle just gives them a WWE sort of feel.
Great points PW.
At the end of the last WEC event (Curran/Faber), they announced the next event and said that The Natural Born Killer and Razor Rob would be defending thier belts at the February event. I immediately wondered about Chase Beebe. I am very happy that he will be fighting in February - a big fan!

DANA’S CHEAP, do you have a link to more info on this Rob Emerson story? I remember several years ago, I saw a story about a group of kids in a rich part of California that was a “Fight Club”. They would fight each other, and just about everyone they saw, especially at parties. There was a party at a house, and there was this huge fight that involved a truck trying to escape. Don’t remember all the details, but I am 99% sure that the gang was called the 311 gang, or 311 boys or something, just like the band. Is this the same gang you are referring to?????

That sounds a lot like the premise of that gawd-awful movie that’s coming out soon and had its own thread here on Mania a week or two ago.
