One resolution I’ve made for 2008 in terms of MMAmania.com is to see if we can find any motivated, competent and reliable contributors to bring us to another level this year.
As any site operator in this space can attest (more than likely any space for that matter) this is a time consuming gig. Most people think it’s easy to run a popular MMA blog.
It’s not … and I do have help usually whenever I’m in a pinch (Thanks Jesse).
Put simply, we get countless emails and notes from our readers who want to write or contribute to this site. Well, this is your chance.
Qualifications:
- Literate
- Knowledgeable
- Driven
- Creative
- Proactive
- Thick-skinned
It’d also be nice if those interested could provide some work samples or other documents that showcase your talents. The best way to express your interest is via e-mail. Once we have a good crop of prospects I’ll circle back on this.
And when I mean circle back I’m talking all the questions about how it’s going to work such as responsibilities, compensation, exposure, etc.
Thanks in advance to any and all who reach out. Can’t wait to hear from you.
Note: In your emails please include the names under which you post under here at Mania if applicable.

I’d like to write aritcles, but i have nothing to show and most of the MMA information i get is from this website, but if I wrote an article could I just e-mail it to you and if you like it you could post?? I’ve never been an amazing writer but if I took the time to research and write an article it would be fun to see my work published because I’m always reading MMA. Let me know if I could e-mail you a piece of work. Sounds Fun
I’d like to write aritcles, but i have nothing to show
I realize that might be a problem for a few folks. For now just send me an email to the address in the post expressing your interest so I have it on file. I’ll roll out how this might work in the next few days. Thanks
wow..desperate times call for desperate measures..
We really do love your headlines and wouldn’t mind keeping them coming.
MMAmania, you do a great job on this site. I like you’re blog because you keep em’ short and sweet. No bloviating. Please be very selective in who you choose to publish. There are a lot knowitall blowhards posting on this site.
wow..desperate times call for desperate measures..

Ha … not really. But growth is certainly something we’re interested in.
There are a lot knowitall blowhards posting on this site.
Leave Jesse alone.
I would love to contribute to this site on the behalf of MMA and us bloggers. When it comes to drive and knowledge..other Bjj..MMa is all I think about. It’s all I thought about since god knows when.
Mania, I have a question. When do you determine when to censor our comments? I’ve had a few of my posts changed and I want to know what it is you won’t allow? It seems that you change my posts when they are confrontational with someone else’s post.
youre only looking for writers, correct?
youre only looking for writers, correct?
Dunno, what are you selling?
i would love to write for this mma blog
It seems that you change my posts when they are confrontational with someone else’s post.
Depends. But if you’re calling someone an idiot, fag, or racial slur or something inappropriate then I will usually sanitize it so it does not create a shit storm and derail the discussion at hand. Or I’ll just delete it. Depends.
haha, i was asking because this and various other sites is where i get my news. i dont see how i would be able to write what you havent already covered. if that makes sense. need help in any other department?
haha, i was asking because this and various other sites is where i get my news. i dont see how i would be able to write what you havent already covered. if that makes sense. need help in any other department?
Fighter interviews, features, coverage of promotions other than the UFC, opinion pieces, etc. It’s open-ended, really. I just want to get a gauge for those who might be interested at this time to see if we can make something work.
NOOOOOOO…less of them and more of you is best for this site.
We’ll get stuff like – “This one time, Matt Serra punch GSP and knocked him down…that was cool”. These dopes on here will only offer one-sided mineless runs of their favorate fighters and have nothing to offer us mindful folks who know our place as MMA readers.
Please save us and retract this offer for all that is good in the octagon.
Thanks

I’m a self-professed control freak. Nothing will ever go up if it doesn’t fit what we’ve already established here.
opinion pieces, i like that.
I wanna write, i know everything mma
Mania-
This is awesome news!!! I think you do a great job with this site, but differing opinions and angles on the greatest combat sport on earth is good for everyone. More coverage for MMA and of course growth for you is also good! What kind of sample would like emailed? I have not written an actual “piece” on MMA, but have blogged several times. I don’t think I have any essays from college laying around “not that I remember much from college!” What would you like in the email. Thanks.
I don’t think I have any essays from college laying around “not that I remember much from college!” What would you like in the email.
Def. not college essays. Just send me an email. More details to follow.
Mania, am I eligible for this since I run the MMA Mania, Myspace?
Also, are we going to do that interview?
Mania, besides getting more ppl to write your blogs, are you intending in updating your site? Such as if someone replies to a post, the original poster would get a notification by email of that reply? That would be sweet, but I understand that it may be too much.
Great idea Mania. You know that I would love to be able to some things to help you out. Is my write up I did for the UFC predictions enough, or do you want me to submit some articles I wrote for RING magazine and UFC.com.
LOL, only kidding on the latter.
I would definitly be interested in all of the things you mentioned above, “fighter interviews, features, coverage of promotions other than the UFC, opinion pieces, etc.”
I can even imagine a monthly column called “ViolentMike gets Violent” or “ViolentMike’s Montly Rant”. That way I can bad mouth everyone in the world of MMA that deserves to be bad mouthed.
its funny how i find out more here about ufc then on ufc.com

Yeah I am the unsung myspace hero, that gets treated by the likes of whips and chains, and I have plenty of scars to show.
No in all honesty, it is a fun thing, and I have been working left and right to get interviews for you guys, not many fighters have the time to help us out. But hey Im trying. Just shows you how much MMAMANIA has expanded. Because of you guys, I get to work the myspace

Eh…I don’t care for the idea. It sounds a bit too gimmicky for my tastes. I hate it when a writer’s (or other personality’s) “thing” is being mad and going off on little rants about stuff. It seems especially disingenuous when the column has “rant” (or something similar) in the title. Shouldn’t a rant be reserved for when you’re actually upset about something? And if that happens enough to warrant a regular column, doesn’t that mean you need to relax?

Just relax my man, its just idea pitching, all in good harm.
I applied Jesse…don’t be scared, I’m a nice guy
Can Montreal be my first gig? That city was created for me! Peels Pub, then to Pussy Corps!!! Off we go.
I’m pretty relaxed, “man.” I wasn’t being rude — just contributing my two cents like everybody else.
im from newcastle uk if you let me know where the weigh-in for ufc 80 is il see if i can get a cheeky interview
i want to help.
hmmm
but i cant to interviews and such with where i live(s.texas)
sucky.
i can only write my opinions i guess. sorry i cant help
This is the one and only mma site I go to… I appreciate all the work that goes into it. I would say 90% of people writting in are knowledgable and often well thought out… keep it up mania, and thank you for a year full of good write ups.

This is were the THICK SKIN comes into play! It seems you can’t please everyone. Mr. NC-17 isn’t that bad…but he’s not that good either. Keep up the search
That was meant to be funny.
Off topic any rumors as to who is fighting in the up-comming WEC fights in feb?
Off topic any rumors as to who is fighting in the up-comming WEC fights in feb?
In all honesty, I heard Carlos Condit vs. some dude that already beat him before.
Razor Rob McCollough vs. somebody..
Thats all I know.

Yeah, maybe I can do something like “ViolentMike kisses the newby posters’ asses”. If you are only looking for the positives and nice friendly words and citizens of the year, MMA isn’t the sport for you. MMA is as violent of a sport as it gets. Perhaps watching a Knitting Competion or watching Bingo would suit you better. Anyways, it was just a suggestion. I didn’t see anyone get creative enought to come up for a possible name for a possible column yet…
But as far as the relaxing thing is concerned – you are absolutely right. I am prescribed 90 2mg xanax every month (my wife too, God I love our doctor!!!!) and I smoke headies many times throughout the day. Also, 99% of my posts are done at my work. My job isn’t exactly the least stressful job either – especially when I spend half my day on this site…. LOL

I really have no idea why Chase Beebe (the bantomweight 135lb champ) isn’t on this card? Did he recently get hurt training? His last fight was at WEC 30 at the beginning of August. He would be more than ready to fight by the time of the next card. He is the only champ that didn’t defend his belt at their last and next cards.
PS Chase is the man at 135.
Does that little kid have a black-eye?
Mania, I would love to write and I always write essay’s on here daily anyway. You should have plenty examples of mine already. Of course if I were to actually write on here I wouldn’t make the spelling mistakes that I make on here.
Mania,
As an FYI, Lotus Notes at my work is all screwed up today, so the EMAIL link above did not work for me. I emailed you through the “Contact” page. I sent you 2.
Thanks,

Just messing around, I love the WEC, they have fantastic fighters, and now they are building up fighters which is good.
I’m a pretty decent writer with blogging experience, although I haven’t done much in the way of strict sports writing. I’ve written a few pieces on my blog about MMA, even though I mainly focus on politics, philosophy, or science, which just goes to show how big a fan I am to include such irrelevancies.
I’m a huge fan of Jesse’s work, by the way, and you could expect similar content from me. Obviously that means lots of editorialization, humor, and pissing people off who disagree, naturally. But I can also tone it down if perhaps my wacky antics are too much for the readers to bear.
Anyway, click my name to read my webcomic/blog (be warned though, it is very political and deals with divisive social issues, so try not to be offended if you happen to be of the more…conservative…flavor). Here are a few of my MMA-related articles I’ve written:
An analysis of Liddell versus Rampage from UFC 71 (The text is underneath the crappy comic)
The Ultimate Fundie
In which I defend modern MMA against charges of obscenity and gruesomeness
i would’nt mind writing an article or two.But most people would’nt like me because i’m not a GSP or Fedor nuthugger.

Mania,
I would really like to write for your site, and though I have to confess I get most of my MMA news from you, I am very interested in all the possible topics of work you mentioned. But I cannot seem to access the link to the email you provided. I think it is because I do not use a microsoft office email, just an internet account. If you could post another link to the email or something, I would really appreciate it.
I think I’ll throw my hat in the cage. I know I stand a one in a million chance, but it never hurts to try. It’s too great an experience to pass up.
Can you let me know if you got the email I sent you Mania, im a curious lad!!

Doctor Samson, the EMAIL link was not working for me neither. At the top of the site, click on CONTACT. You can get a hold of Mania that way. That’s how I notified him.
So is this all volunteer work or is there a type of salary/pay? As much fun as it sounds, I dont have a lot of volunteering time, but if $ are being passed around consider me a candidate. Ha. Ha.
I am definitely interested in writing for the site. I don’t have any examples on hand but if you want to give me a topic and test my skills I would be more than willing to give it a shot. Thanks in advance.
Hey Mania,
Would the fact that I live in Hawaii hurt my chances to be a writer for this website? It’s not like the UFC comes here every year. However, there are other promotions I could give you feedback on. I would also love about writing things that are going on up there in the States.
I have had no feedback or confirmation about the email i sent you?
