We’re not going to see Roger Huerta compete as often in this New Year so let’s travel back in time to 2005 when he took on a lubed-up Melvin Guillard during Freestyle Fighting Championship (FCF) 14.

Here’s the vid:

“The Young Assassin” got the initial nod from the judges but the result was eventually overturned because he was just too damn slippery.

I dont know how they determined he was too greasy after the fight had already been decided. Anyway, I used to be a Melvin Guillard fan, but he has just shown a total lack of class, as of late. I really wish he would grow up because he’s extremely explosive and has the physical potential to be extremely dominant in that division.

Is it me, or was Huerta cornering himself? That says something about the state of his training at that point in his career. A rematch would Guillard would be a quick fight with Huerta proving to be a much better fighter than back then.

Yeah , when did it get overturned???????

Dont understand that. Fight was over for a while, they read decision, just when did someone “PROVE” that Melvin ws greased???

I dont like either fighter, but if this was overturned it is a shame.

Roger should switch to (Capewera) dont know how it is spelled, but it is dance fighting. He would make a great dance fighter. For every 20 kicks thrown, he came close to landing one

yeah a rematch would quite be waste of time for huerta he is in a top ten status and guillard hasnt really done anything to reach him at that level. a win over clementi? no disrecpect to him but big woop! guillard would need a miracle to reach huerta and even beat him..i dont hell that that miracle with his nose candy expeditions

I wonder if this “Mexican Dude” is a little bit biased? hahaha.
Nah Melvin really does suck on the ground sooooo bad. He has been in this sport way to long to not know he needs to pick up some ground skills. Melvin ain’t goin anywhere up the latter. Having said that, with the current competition, niether is Huerta.

The reason it was overturned was because the REFEREE protested the decision on Huerta’s behalf to the officials.

The referee said it was obvious that Guillard’s corner was re-applying moisturizer/body lotion throughout the fight, even after he initially rubbed Guillard down with a towel before the fight ever began. There’s no way to refute the story, as you can see in the video that Guillard’s corner was doing it.

Not only that, but it was a controversial decision. Huerta very apparently won the fight in my eyes and to everyone else I know’s, and even the crowd boo’d the decision.

So either Snorty Guillard was an ashy bastard or dripping in activator or Murry’s Hair Cream. Great.

Or maybe it was a bit too much Soul-Glo. Yeah, that’s it.

Melvin is about a year away from competing in unsanctioned back yard fights, a la Kimbo, except he will be fighting for a few rocks of crack and a ham sandwich.

I had tried to find this fight a few times before to see what the NC was about. Thanks Mania.

If Guillard hadn’t been greased up that fight would have been over in the first. Roger had his back and you can see him just sliding off. Still, I think they overturned it based on a terrible job done scoring the fight. That was a ‘Bisbing-like’ home cooking decision.

I think Dana White had something to do with overturning it in Huerta’s favor since Huerta is his boy.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they figured it out by watching the fight. Not only is Guillard glistening all over his body from the start of the fight(maybe he’s naturally glisteny or over-warmed up?), but you can see Huerta slipping all over the place when he tries to grip him. I like the example at around 7:40. Go back to 7:35 and watch. You can see RH’s hand sliding all the way up Guillard’s leg.

That said, the determination of over greasiness should surely be made prior to or during, not after the fight. That’s absurd. It’s not a matter of whether he was greased or not. It’s a matter of its not being good for the sport for fights to be retroactively redecided. How many people liked it when football had no cap on reviews? Fighting can’t afford much of that except for steroid overturns and even then it can’t really afford guys testing positive because of the suck factor.

Oh my God! The crowd booed! Most fights I watch get booed at some time or another. Also, why wouldn’t they simply tell his corner to stop greasing him up? Also, I don’t know if that ref should be allowed to ever work again. Huerta threw several kicks to a downed opponent, but the ref just watched him do it over and over again.

Don’t know how I missed this post. Many apologies for previous “guessing” post.

I do still have Mahde’s question though which was why couldn’t the ref do something about the greasing during the fight? Anybody?
