Man, i’m really interested to see how chuck does, how he acclimates now after this win. Curious how he will do now consistantly having to go against good competition, that is well rounded in striking as well.

I also hope Wandi comes back and messes some people up. People only do better after they get used to there surroundings, ( I know wandi has been in the UFC but it’s been a while). I wanna see him in the title mix before Chuck.

I think that might have been just an act, inside he was probaly happy chuck won. Who would Rampage rather fight lidell who he beat twice or silve who beat him quite easily twice.

On the other hand maybee rampage is not all about the lime light and having the belt and all the attention that goes with it, Maybee he is really competitive and truly wants to avenge his former losses, I think its the former

He just demolished wandi, no two ways about it!! I was making excuses for my man chuck after the jardine defeat, sounds like you are looking for reasons as to why wandi lost.

enough with all the i told you so chuck’s awesomes. to me, it looks like chuck is taking his game to a new level. he did not look very impressive in his past i don’t know how many fights. the bigger reason he won these fights were because he had a style advantage over his opponents. his past opponents were all non-striking grappling/ground-oriented fighters that he was able to neutralize with his wrestling background (take-down defense) and own with his superior strikes. when he was faced with strikers, he folded (rampage twice, jardine). this is the best chuck lidell i have ever seen. he’s actually gaining initiative with his wrestling and his striking looks sharper than ever. so u chuck fans need to stop gloating because chuck was definitely overrated in the past. however i’m excited to see what he can bring to the table with his newfound motivation.

If you’ll notice from looking back at the tape, Rampage was shaking his head to Dana White (who was walking past him), so yes, he probably did want to avenge his two loses to Wand, and a Wand win would have set that up. An really, he’s got a great record otherwise, why shouldn’t he?

However, Wand is MUCH better at fighting guys like Rampage, than Liddell. Obvious from the way he practically destroyed Rampage twice.

Yes he did look better than he has in a while, to say he folded against jardine is a bit harsh dont you think? If that is the route you are taking about styles striker/striker etc. Then rampage has shown his weaknesses against grapplers, does that mean he cant beat a grappler, or someone who ties him up?
i heard recently that you havent fought the right people in mma if you havent tasted defeat!! They are all top fighters, but i do agree chuck used more of his skills at the right time in this fight so fair play!! Hes still the man!!

Rampage lost against two grapplers in his Pride days, sure. But I would make the same argument i just made for Chuck in that Rampage has upped his game in a major way since crossing over to the UFC. Rampage was not a complete fighter when he was in Japan. Not by a long shot. He’s getting there now. I’m putting Chuck in that same boat from what I saw in this last fight. Hopefully he will keep evolving.

And yeah, Chuck didn’t exactly get dominated or KO’d by Jardine, but he did fold. He lost. He didn’t have an answer for Jardine’s game plan.

edit: Rampage didn’t lose against grapplers, he lost against Muay Thai clinch artists.

mo, I’ve actually become a bit of a Chuck fan after this fight. Hopefully he will stay on track, keep improving and show us some exciting fights. The only concern I have is his age and wealth. Two big obstacles to overcome in this sport.

Yeah I really don’t ever see him beating rampage, but I still believe if he fights at his best, like he did last night, he could be a top contendar, but I don’t think he’ll ever get a belt again.

I know he’d like to avenge the a** kickings Wandy gave him but he’s more afraid of the inevitable, a fueled up Iceman looking for revenge!

I seriously doubt either one of these guy’s would have made it past the fourth round! The beating they gave each other would have dropped most, if not all other light-heavy’s in the division, hell the world. In the third and final round both these guy’s were dropping their hands just to catch their breathe.

With that aside, I was ringside Saturday night and Wandy couldn’t stop the jab or the big right. Chuck delivered and proved he is back, I don’t know which fight you were watching but that was “Ass Kicking 101″ and the professor was putting on a clinic!

Yes Sir..out of my seat.on the floor..standing up..The shots that both gave and recieved were crazy. I’m more than satisfied with the fight..and Wandi is going to be around for the next 5 yrs or so..in the ufc. I’m happy being an old school Wandy fan..that he demostrated to the U.S. fans that didn’t know who he was..why he had such a following of fans.

well I am a true MMa fan. So I guess your right?

I know alot of people think Machida is boaring(myself sometimes) but he is one of the most technical fighters in the division, and he is improving everyday. He knows he has to start finishing fights. With his big win over Soko he is moving higher and higher..Remember this guys undefeated.

If Chuck fought Machida In my opinion’ I dont think it would go decision.. Chuck is back on point and it would probably end up looking like Chuck/Babalu, with Chuck KTFO of Machida.

Also I would love to see him fighting Shogun, but I dont think that would get him a title shot. So probably not a good fight for Chuck.

Dynamite!! 2007 kicks off at 15h00 on Monday December 31 at the Kyocera Dome Osaka. The event will be broadcast live across Japan on the TBS Network.

Is there any way of watching this K-1 event in America? I know TBS wont be airing this event in America, but what about pay per view

I don’t mind that Rampage and Griffin are doing a reality show but they shouldn’t wait till the end to fight. Dana needs to find non champs to fight at the end of shows and then the winner fights the champ as oppose to the Champs holding there belts for 11 months…..

If I was Chuck after the fight I would have demanded a rematch with Jardine….why not? Rampage’s title is on hold till August when he fights Forrest, after that fight he wont be ready to fight again until December, so Chuck has plentty of time to try and regain his title, What better way to show that the fire has been re-lit under his ass than fighting Jardine and destroying him in like May, he could then fight a number 1 contender match in September and if all goes well be ready to fight for the Title in December, which after the Forrest/Rampage fight will be the next logical date for the LHW title to be on the line.

Rampage will be champion as long as juanito is by his side.

I like the way chuck matched up against everyone except for Rampage and Hendo who would both destroy the Iceman. If chuck fights an inspired fight like he did the past Saturday he has a shot against almost anyone. I hope chuck doesnt accept any fight against Hendo, because Henderson would completely Destroy Chucky-poo

I kind of think that Machida might get matched up against Tiago so that Chcuk can face Shogun, which is more of a marquree match up.

I really wanted to see Wanderlei win…

I wish that Chuck had went for one of his takedowns at the beginning of the first round. If he had, I think that the outcome of the fight would have been different. In round 2, Silva dropped Chuck with a punch. And what did he do? He backed off and allowed Chuck to get up. Why? Because he wanted to KNOCK CHUCK OUT, STANDING! If he simply wanted to win, he would have jumped all over Chuck when Chuck was down and hurt and went for the kill. But he didn’t. He wanted to entertain the fans with a war, and end it in a knockout. And how does Chuck repay him for his kindness? By lay ‘n’ praying on top of Wanderlei for the last 30 seconds of the fight dry humping him trying to eek out a decision. If Chuck was a TRUE warrior to the highest degree, as Wanderlei Silva is, he would have stood toe to toe with the Axe Murderer swinging for the fences trying to hit that memorable homerun in the bottom of the ninth of the World Series. But instead, he stepped up the plate, holding the bat to his shoulder, hoping to get a base on balls.

In all, I was only dissapointed with that last 30 seconds. Chuck just wanted to play it safe and deploy the Josh Koscheck strategy.

Wanderlei will be back. And still, at this moment, I believe that Wanderlei has a better chance at becoming UFC champ than Chuck does.

I know alot of people think Machida is boaring(myself sometimes) but he is one of the most technical fighters in the division, and he is improving everyday. He knows he has to start finishing fights. With his big win over Soko he is moving higher and higher..Remember this guys undefeated.

In the third round, did you notice Chuck kept on looking up at the ‘big screen’, most likely to see how much time is left in the fight? If you are looking for a Knockout win, you don’t care how much time is left, you go for the kill. Once that third round hit the half way mark, Chuck just wanted to escape with a ‘W’. Why else would he go for the takedown on Wanderlei when he hasn’t attempted a takedown since…. well, I can’t even remember the last time Chuck went for the takedown. Does anyone?

Chuck has taken his game to a new level, he has had his issues in the past with only being a counter striker. As we all saw, he pressed the entire fight chasing wandi all around the ring. Rampage and Jardine didn’t press and controled the fight. Chuck has made the changes he needed to, and surprised Wandi, If you watched the fight and have seen all of Chucks fights, like I have; then you know what I’m talking about. This will mark the change. Chuck will walk through the next fight no matter who it is. Be honest how do you stop a fighter who presses, throws bombs, and take downs (ie 3rd round), even if he was being protecting his win. Chuck likes to dance, I believe that after watching him backpedal for most of the third round, looking up at the clock wanting the decision. And why does he think he deserves a title shot, when Jardine beat him (and also beat Forrest who IS getting a title shot), not to mention the fact that Rampage beat him twice in a row.

Fedor beat the giant Hong man choi, with all of that mma experience from that one fight he had… what a surprise, he did get beat up though, I was unimpressed, and randy would have beat that ass

The one thing that really irritates me is there are hardly any title defenses now days. It seems that most champions only average two title bouts a year(with the exception of Anderson Silva). I give the guy a lot of credit. He’s defended his belt everytime the UFC asked him to, and kicked everyone’s A$$. I know that it is not the fighters faults for the lack of title defenses, but something needs to be done about this mess.

Maybe Lyoto but not thiago. I think Soko was exposed to be another Houston alexander. Shogun would get beat if the same fighter that fought Forrest came into the cage with. Actually he would get beat no matter what. Jardine is trash. The axemurderer cant beat Rampage and stay clean at the same time.

2007 have come to an end and ufc had some great match ups hope 2008 gets even better starting with henderson-spider fight. that’s going to be a war. but still i haven’t seen anybody ranking ufc fighter that i truly believe. so here’s my rankings for ufc fighters only.

1. big nog: i think he is the most complete hw. good stand up, great summisions, heart

2. randy couture: even though he’s retired i don’t think he out of the picture, big nog is fighting for the interim title not vacant.

3. gabriel gonzaga: randy beat him easier then sylvia, but i’m pretty sure he would knockout sylvia.

4. cheik congo: same as gonzaga, i’m sure he would knock sylvia out as well, but would lose easy againts gonzaga because of his ground game

5. sylvia: he is a big dummy but he does win fights even if he puts me to sleep every time he is in the octagon

6. the pitbull: i would rank him higher but for some reason he can’t beat sylvia

7. cc: he is getting bully around, still dangerous

8. brandon vera: he is too small for a hw

9. fabricio werdum: good sumisions, not too bad standing

10. frank mir: not sure if he is back to his old self, find out real soon

light heavyweight

1. rampage: the best. brutal slams, power on both hands, great cardio.

2. dan henderson: went on a 5 round war againts rampage and survive.

3. shogun: i’m sure next time we see him it will be the real thing not the impostor who show up for the griffin fight.

4. chuck: he looked reborn againts wandy, look like the old chuck

5. wandy: no shame lost in my eyes on his lost againts the iceman. he’ll be back to his winning days in no time

6. the dragon machida: great counter striker, never gets hurt real bad, smart fighter, submited soku

7 thiago silva: good all around fighter, tkoed alexander

8. griffin: back to back wins over ramirez(a nobody) and a guy who look like shogun only with bigger boobs does not make him a top contender in my eyes

10. houston alexander: even though he did beat keith and sakara, keith almost knock him out, i’m sure he won’t lose if they fight again.

VM: I thought the same exact things as you man. I think wanderlei only last that fight becaue like u said, he was too worried about putting on a classic fight and ending the epic war in a KO. He could have jumped on Chuck for the finish on a couple occasions but prefered to back up, let chuck recover, and try for a Highlight reel KO. I feel bad that wandy lost that fight especially since I really think he could have finished him. I also really thought it was cheesy of chuck to end the epic battle by pulling a sherk and try humping him til the bell rang, instead of giving the fight an ending that it really deserved by lowering his chin and banging it out for the last 30 seconds. As a fan, I really appreciate wanderlei sacrificing a win in a HUGE fight, just to try and give US something spectacular. Chuck fought well, but I was really disapointed that he chose to end the fight that way. That was something gutless that I would never think I would see out of chuck. I commend Wandy for trying to treat us to an exciting night especially during a night where the previous 3 fights were boring, crappy snoozefests.

On another note, I am surprised that more people havent commented on the scoring, and Joe Rogan’s bogus biased commentary. The 1st round could have gone either way. It is a travesty that all 3 judges didnt award the second round to wanderlei, and Chuck clearly won the 3rd round. I expected to see a split decision but to my surprise 2 of the 3 judges had wanderlei loosing the 2nd round (which is worse then awarding Bisping the fight over Hamil) and all 3 judges had chuck winning the 1st round, which I felt could have gone either way. The only round chuck decisively won was the 3rd. Something needs to be done about the judging. Its understandable when a Bullsh*t decsiion happens in an England event, but to have that kind of judging in Vegas is completely unacceptable!’

Joe Rogan didnt do that fight justice either. All I herd was chuck this, chuck that. Wamderlei was cracking Liddel with some Big shots and Rogan didnt even mention it….I was shocked at how one sided they tried to make the fight look. When wandy dropped chuck, they tried to say he slipped…what a joke. Mute the volume on your TV and re watch that fight because Rogan and Goldberg really tried to destort the perception of that fight and I think it was a complete JOKE…I dont understand why the UFC has to try and meddle with crap like this…Its a great Sport, just let the chips fall where they may, instead of trying to control everything, by destorting everything. The UFC tries to hard to turn certain fighthers into stars and then market these company made stars and I dont agree with it. Stars are created on there own. The UFC did everything in its power to try rebuild Liddell into a star, even sacrfacing wanderlei….but In my eyes Wanderlei emerged from that fight the true STAR, he put the Fans in front of his career and I was so happy to see the crowd give him such a warm reception in a loosing effort.

Chuck did not win the 2nd round. I was wondering about that too. He fell twice in the 2nd round and still won it.

Right he fell twice and had that been wandy that fell you would not be complaining about it or bitchen about the score. Its not that uncommon for fighters to slip if they worked more balance they wouldn’t but thats not a priority on the training schedule for them.

i posted this in the nemisis recap, but that thread is almost dead. these are the matchups that make sense in the light heavys:

MACHIDA VS JARDINE (winner gets title shot against rampage/griffin) many argued that jardine deserved a title shot as much as griffin. machida is undeafeated with notable wins over sokou, nakamura, franklin, bj penn, and bonnar.

LIDDELL VS EVANS (gets next title shot) liddell should fight the only guy left in the top five, rashad.

all the rest can duke it out to move closer to the belt.
wandy, thiago, shogun, bonnar, tito, houston, sokou, and lambert (if he beats gouveia). however i dont think the three chute box related guys will fight eachother.

I think Lyoto would win, but I would like to see the winner of the fight get a shot at the belt. I agree that Soko was exposed to be another Houston. However, those one-dimensional fighters are marketable because they’re fun to watch. The winner of that fight (Soko vs. Houston) would also be fun to watch fight the AxeMurderer.

I agree with some of these posts saying future match ups like Thiago silva vs dragon machida and Houston vs Sokodjou, Jardine vs Tito or Wandi, LHW is my favourite division but we all pretty much have to forget about the belt in this division cos it gets seen only once a year? that sucks.. I’ll just have to look foward to the three rounders for now

VM: I thought the same exact things as you man. I think wanderlei only last that fight becaue like u said, he was too worried about putting on a classic fight and ending the epic war in a KO. He could have jumped on Chuck for the finish on a couple occasions but prefered to back up, let chuck recover, and try for a Highlight reel KO. I feel bad that wandy lost that fight especially since I really think he could have finished him. I also really thought it was cheesy of chuck to end the epic battle by pulling a sherk and try humping him til the bell rang, instead of giving the fight an ending that it really deserved by lowering his chin and banging it out for the last 30 seconds. As a fan, I really appreciate wanderlei sacrificing a win in a HUGE fight, just to try and give US something spectacular. Chuck fought well, but I was really disapointed that he chose to end the fight that way. That was something gutless that I would never think I would see out of chuck. I commend Wandy for trying to treat us to an exciting night especially during a night where the previous 3 fights were boring, crappy snoozefests.

On another note, I am surprised that more people havent commented on the scoring, and Joe Rogan’s bogus biased commentary. The 1st round could have gone either way. It is a travesty that all 3 judges didnt award the second round to wanderlei, and Chuck clearly won the 3rd round. I expected to see a split decision but to my surprise 2 of the 3 judges had wanderlei loosing the 2nd round (which is worse then awarding Bisping the fight over Hamil) and all 3 judges had chuck winning the 1st round, which I felt could have gone either way. The only round chuck decisively won was the 3rd. Something needs to be done about the judging. Its understandable when a Bullsh*t decsiion happens in an England event, but to have that kind of judging in Vegas is completely unacceptable!’

Joe Rogan didnt do that fight justice either. All I herd was chuck this, chuck that. Wamderlei was cracking Liddel with some Big shots and Rogan didnt even mention it….I was shocked at how one sided they tried to make the fight look. When wandy dropped chuck, they tried to say he slipped…what a joke. Mute the volume on your TV and re watch that fight because Rogan and Goldberg really tried to destort the perception of that fight and I think it was a complete JOKE…I dont understand why the UFC has to try and meddle with crap like this…Its a great Sport, just let the chips fall where they may, instead of trying to control everything, by destorting everything. The UFC tries to hard to turn certain fighthers into stars and then market these company made stars and I dont agree with it. Stars are created on there own. The UFC did everything in its power to try rebuild Liddell into a star, even sacrfacing wanderlei….but In my eyes Wanderlei emerged from that fight the true STAR, he put the Fans in front of his career and I was so happy to see the crowd give him such a warm reception in a loosing effort.[/quote]

I am not making excuses for Wanderlei. He took everything Chuck had to throw at him, inluding takedowns, and Chuck still couldn’t put Wanderlei away. Instead, I am questioning Chuck’s stategy in the 3rd round. Both Chuck and Wanderlei have wanted this fight for like 6 years. THey both have said about a million times that when they do fight that they will swing for the fences until they knock the other guy out. At least one of the fighters kept his word.

Wandi never dropped Chuck with a punch he did punch Chuck but after watching it again like I said before a million times he tripped on his own foot moveing backwards away from wandis other punches, Chuck got back up at lighing speed Wandi counldn’t move in and do shit about it. None of wandis punches had any effect on Chuck that was obvious to anyone who was actually watching the fight, Chuck wasn’t dazed or wobly on his feet when he got hit.

I had the second round pretty close, even if you give wandi the knock down. As the round goes on chuck starts to dominate the round, also cutting wandi pretty bad, and then finishes the round with a take down! Yes it could have been a round to wandi, but closer than you are saying lads!! And why would liddell risk losing the fight in the last 30secs, so all you could say hes finished and that he should retire, dont be daft. You jst hating cos he KTFO wandi!! He was smart throughout, wandi didnt hurt him and had little answer for what liddell had to offer.
