shogun

“My brother [Ninja] left the team last week and there is no way I remain in a team my brother does not belong. I own him my career. It is because of him I became a professional fighter. He brought fighting to my family. My idea is to stay in Brazil, in Curitiba. So far I don’t want to move to US and I am trying to convince Murilo to stay too…. Id like to open a gym in Curitiba … maybe this January. I’ve been searching for places and growing the idea stronger. But after that I have to focus on UFC. I fight again in March and I need to train harder and harder for my next fight.”

– UFC light heavyweight Mauricio “Shogun” Rua talks with MMARingReport.com about the reason behind his recent departure from the famed ChuteBoxe mixed martial arts academy in Brazil. Shogun and his brother, Murilo “Ninja” Rua, follow in the footsteps of of other big name fighters to leave the camp of late such as Wanderlei Silva and Andre Dida. In the interview Shogun reveals that he can return to action as soon as March … and would like to challenge a big draw such as Tito Ortiz.

yay shogun!!! what a stacked lhw division the UFC now has since they’ve added Shogun, Wand, Rampage, Sokodjou (though I suppose the jury’s still out on him), Hendo (when he moves back up).

Hope they pick up lil nog after his contract is up, and, just because he’s a favorite of mine, Yoshida!

What about Jardine vs. Shogun?

Evans vs. Shogun?

Man.. I hope Shogun fights at 82.

Tito is too busy doing Celebriy Apprentice and acting in terrible movies. Tito would not stand a chance against Shogun. Ortiz is slowly working his way out of UFC. Shogun needs a gaurantee win…..why not let him swing with Houston Alexander?

It would make sense for Shogun to fight in March, that is the “Pride of a Champion” card that so far has Anderson Silva, Dan Henderson and Akihiro Gono. Shogun could have fought Nakamura at 82 if Kaz didn’t get suspended for 6 months (which will end in March).

Shogun should be placed in front of Chuck Liddell. He’ll be coming off three consecutive losses, and this would be a very good matchup. Tough for both fighters, I’d really like to see that fight.

im wondering how silence those people right now regarding those people who’s talking too much that the pride is better than UFC before the zuffa bought the pride, & even before those big name in pride has not yet in the UFC. more of them keep saying the UFc will own easily by pride fighters, crocop will win the HW belt easily, the fighter will not loose in the UFC are shogun, crocop, shogun, etc…

i think they eat their own words,

dont get me wrong coz im a fan of pride fighters, im just hate those people who’s very biased for their favorite fighters

I don’t know what Shogun is going to be like next time out. I’m very interested. I’d like to see him back to winning ways but as long as he puts on an exciting fight I’ll be happy. Thing is Tito was asking for this fight as well last summer so he must think he matches up really well against him. I really don’t know, I can’t predict these things anymore.

What? He needs to be fed a can? That’s a pretty weak statement and shows how little faith you have in his abilities.

If he is indeed as good as all of the hype, then he should fight someone in the top 5. I really don’t see Shogun making a huge impact in the LHW division. I think his fighting style is much better suited for PRIDE rules and not under the Unified rules. He seems out of place inside a cage as well.

If he dropped to MW, then I think he could be a very dominant force. I was amazed at the size difference between him and Forrest and it shows that he has a size and weight disadvantage to 60% of the UFC LHW’s.

Saying that, I would love to see Rua fight Hendo at 205 or 185. Guess we will have to wait for that one though!

I’m a little disappointed in Shogun for calling out Tito. He’s been knocked down a peg or two already for getting beat by Griffen. I’d rather see him hungry to prove that was a fluke. He should be saying stuff like “put whoever you have to in front of me until I pound my way to a chance at Rampage”

The Shogun that needs to show up is the one in the white speedos with the fade haircut CRUSHING HIS OPPONENTS, which I believe will be the one to come!

I think because Shogun was supposed to beat Griffin and then fight for the title, but Griffin won. Dana liked his initiative when he asked for Shogun, plus he’s the TUF poster boy.

Also, Jardine got destroyed by UFC newbie Houston Alexander before beating Liddell so he wasn’t really that high up on the rankings, and Jardine is not anywhere near as popular as Griffin. Title shots have to be marketable..

Dont matter,Quinton is gonna beat Forrest anyway. Then they’ll(the ufc) will give Wandy a shot(if he is lucky and gets by the iceman by the grace of God)in which Rampage will get his revenge on Wandy.I cant see anybody dethroning Rampage in 08.

I hate poster boys. I like kick-ass fighters, not posterboys, ie. Bisping, Forrest Griffin, Liddell. I especially like when fighters throw Dana’s dumb-ass shit right in his face Live right in front of him, like what Nate Diaz did, oh and Nick too. It’s like a slap to his bald head without even touching him hahaha. Bet they’ll never make poster boy status. FAVOURTISM RULES!

Are you joking? Let’s not start the old “Pride vs. UFC” discussion. When you feel like mentioning “the rest of the PRIDE fighters”, think a moment about Rampage, Hendo, A. Silva, etc. Or are they suddenly a “100% UFC” product?

Happy Holidays guys.

This seems like a bad move for Shogun. He just had a weak showing and gassed in his last fight. Ditching his team and trying to open a gym, while he is trying to get back into contention doesn’t seem very smart. He should be working on getting himself ready for his next fight. Not having a gym will make that hard.

I will have to agree with you. As long as juanito is in Rampages corner, Rampage will hold the belt.

Shogun is easily top 3 LHW in the world. Just cuase he gassed in his fight against Forrest, that doesnt deminish his skills as a fighter. That was the only time I saw shogun gas, and I guarentee it will be the last time he fights so underconditioned. Doesnt really matter who Shogun is fighting next…He will win.

Shogun needs to forget about a fight against Tito. Tito is a pathetic entertainer who will never again step up and fight an elite fighter. The best fighters he would accept a match against would be TUF alumni.

I say Shogun vs. Rashad will be the perfect fight to get shogun back on track and too beat a fan-familiar opponent such as TUF winner like Rashad Evans

Absolutely agree. The winner of that fight (Shogun vs. Griffin) was going to get Rampage. And now, if AxeMurderer wins, he’ll get Rampage. If Shogun beats somebody like a Jardine, then they’ll give him a shot if Rampage is still champ.

OK. I will be the first to admit,I have been watching Pride for about the last 7 or 8 years. I have not followed the UFC, nearly as much. For all of you that have followed the UFC, and not Pride,I would like to educate you. Wanderly Slvia has been the most decorated light heavyweight in the sport. He has beaten Dan Henderson, Crocop,Fugita,Rampage (2) times in Devastating fasion. The Slvia that fought last night,Is not the same Slvia that Destroyed all of those other fighters. When he knocked Chuck down in the 2nd round, the Slvia that I know would have stomped the hell out of him.In Pride you were allowed to stomp to the face and head.It was like Slvia could not use his normal fighting style, these type of attacks are not allowed in the UFC.Slvia has been the middleweight champion of Pride for 5 straight years. He has taking all comers,Heavyweights included.Shogun,is no different, same style. So watching these fighters in the UFC, and all of them are losing to inferior fighters,It leads me to believe that there is something going on behind closed doors.shogun and Slvia, did not fight anything like the fighters that I have been watching for 8 years.I am sorry UFC fans,I believe that the UFC and the WWE are the same thing,I wish that Dana White would have never purshased Pride fighting championships. he has stole my favorite sport, and made it a joke.OH look there’s Brock Lesner. See it is the WWE.

as u must know, wanderlei silva did not win against chuck, but hey he has been out of the ring for about 10 months, when chuck has had 2 fights in 2007 leading up to the bout, so give wanderlei his respect, he still did good vs chuck, and shogun has been out for 7 months!!! and he was injured, so mark my words, shogun will be back stronger, and better than ever, and i know he will not make me eat my own words!! i know he is hungry, he will dominate.
