Matt Serra UFC 79 party
UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra won’t at home in Long Island, N.Y., on December 29 drowning his sorrows because of missing the opportunity to finally beat up the “jerk” he has coached against throughout this season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), Matt Hughes.

Nope, “The Terror” will take in the pay-per-view (PPV) event with fans at Madison Square Garden (MSG). It’s more than likely the last place he wants to be — Serra was booked to defend his 170-pound title against Hughes during the main event of New Year’s Eve weekend card.

However, he had to withdraw at the ‘enth hour because of an injury to his back sustained while training.

Serra will be on-hand for a question and answer session for those who attend at 8:30 p.m. ET. UFC Fight Club members will also get access to an exclusive autograph session with the welterweight winner of TUF 4. To become a fight club member click here.

The fights will be beamed on big screens at the usual 10 p.m. PPV show time. There is a $30 admission charge, which is actually $10 less than ordering it at home. In addition, you can save $5 if you purchase a ticket prior to December 22.

Not a bad deal. For more details regarding tickets to the event at MSG click here.

Are they kidding me with Serra? In the back of his mind, he must be thankful to hold on to that belt for a little longer. GSP!

With the rumors of the April PPV in Canada Serra is probably crapping in his pants if GSP beats Hughes and he has to fight GSP in Canada.

Why would he be sharting his pants?

He was an underdog when he fought GSP the first time, sure the crowd will be louder and Serra might get booed heavier, but hey, no matter who Serra fights as a Champion, he will be the underdog every time.

He’s the champion, he should be involved. And no champion wants to just hold on to the title for a long time without defending it. It’s not like he’s going to run around yelling ‘I was the UFC WW champ for over a year. OK, so I didn’t actually defend the belt even once during that time, but that’s still a long championship run.’ He wants to fight Hughes, and hopefully he’ll get that chance.

I think that the price of admission should be cheaper. I don’t know about you guys, but I watch the PPV’s with a small group of friends, and each pay like $7 - $10 each. We would NEVER go to MSG and pay $30 each. Plus, you won’t be able to hear the post fight interviews all that well with all the crowd noise. I wouldn’t be surprised if only a dozen people show up, exluding Serra’s family members and students, and possibly even Joe “Sand in the Vagina” Scarola.

Serra would probably yell for Hughes to attack GSP’s fists with his face. It would be a new tactic after Hughes’ failed crotch-to-foot strategy from their last fight.

If anyone does go, I recommend getting the best seat in the house - directly behind Matt Serra - there’s no way you’ll miss anything with his midget-ass sitting in front of you!

I don’t know about anyone else, but I am very disappointed that the 2 Matts aren’t fignting. After months of build-up on TUF, I was looking forward to a fight that was based on bad blood. Personally, I was hoping to see Matt Hughes serve Serra some humble pie. Hughes vs. GSP? Come on, can anyone beat GSP these days? He beat Hughes once and I don’t see how things will be any different this time. GSP is a monster. And the TV ads say that the match is for the interim welterweight championship. Does that mean Serra isn’t champ anymore?
