I like both fighters as well BUT I think Wandy has to be the favorite here. He will not gas out nor get knocked out. I believe he is training with a good gym and he will look much like Couture did after taking time off from his last two losses to Liddell.

PhilQny: Long time mma fans have been waiting so long for this fight, I cant believe we are 30 days away. Wanderlei looks shredded, chuck will be sporting his gut. I think all the trainig wanderlei has done with the chute box academy in addition to his recent workouts with couture, will provide us with the best wanderlei that we have ever seen. Shogun’s loss was a wake up call for wanderlei…The Americans are for real, wanderlei has the proper training and all the tools to take down Liddell.

Hard to tell for sure… but it looks like he’s lost some of his bulk. Now he looks like he could go 3 rounds easy. With these two, I don’t think it’ll go 3 rounds. AxeMurderer looking shredded may not mean a thing in the physical aspect of the fight. However, that’s going to boost his confidence knowing he can go 3 rounds without gassing. Man, this is going to be an interesting fight. I hope Chuck wins, but I’m afraid he won’t. If Silva wins, I think he’ll get Rampage next.

no way chuck gets his ass kicked. Wanderlei has an attacking style in which he just rushes his oppenents and chuck his more well suited counter punching and chuck will catch wandy with a huge counter and drop him and trust me it will be early in the fight to dont expect it to make it past the first two minutes.

Oh really you mean just like the second time randy fought chuck. RANDY great game plan on the second fight with chuck. And for chuck and his gut..KEEP IT CHUCK. Its worked for him for how long.

Wandy is a smallish 205 and his agressive style may be tailor-made for Chuck. One thing for sure, they both need this win bad, so it should make for the great fight we have all been waiting for.

Wanderlei win by KO/TKO in R1 (his easiest fight in ages).

I said this before when Chuck was fighting Rampage and again when he was going to fight Jardine. All of Chucks last few wins were against non strikers and he has not had deal with proper strikers in a long while. I thought that was one of the factors why he would lose against Rampage and also against Jardine. I really do not think it will be any different this time. He still has knock out power without doubt, but I do not see him winning this fight. Horn, Babalu,Tito and Randy are definately not what you would call strikers. Rampage and Jardine most definately are. Chucks had it easy with his stand up over the last few years fighting non strikers and now he is paying for it. I believe the lack of stand competition he has had, has seriously weakened his game.

you are right his striking skills where never the best although he did improve alot, he was able to knock people out but got out struck alot,in the 2nd horn fight horn actually out boxed him or landed alot more its just chuck can take a punch and only needs one of his to land to do damage,his first fight with babalu he was getting out struck but landed that kick and knocked him out.he does have good striking but not near the best but only needs one strike to end the fight.

Chuck wins 1st round KO straight right to the chin followed by 3 unprotected face smashes until stoppage. Some of you nerds forgot how good Chuck is, don’t count him out yet.

I belive we will see the best fight these two fighters have fought in ages, if not their careers. Both are fuelled by their desire to keep on existing in the world of MMA. Chuck Lidell has to prove to Dana and to the UFC fan community that he is still one of the best and deserves to be where he is. However, i believe Wanderlei has a greater motive and therefore a greater driving force: He moved away from Brazil with his family to the USA. He is in a completely new country,and the only way for him to earn a living is through fighting. Commercials? yeah,of course they give Wandy money, but if Wandy loses, the hype around the Axe Murderer, and the legend of the Axe Murderer,will simmer out and die. I´d hate to see Wandy end like Muhammad Ali back in his day, when he simply couldnt stop fighting and tarnished his legendary image by losing series upon series of fights.
Wanderlei looks in much better shape, and it looks as if he´s geared to have an extra large gas tank (remember that he lost to Tito Ortiz in the ring because he ran out of fuel), plus he´s been surely working on his ground game and striking. Everyone keeps adressing Wandy´s style as his key weakness. How do we know he hasnt learned and has actually learned to keep a proper Muay Thai gurad even when going after his opponent for the kill?
I expect to see great things from Wand.

On the otehr hand, Chuck should be motivated as hell as well. His ego has been stomped on three too many times, he´s losing his base because people are saying his prime time has passed, and though he may be a legend, even legends can find themselves without fights if they lose too many times.
i expect Chuck to be working intensely on his counter-punching,especially evading the flurry of bombs Silva tends to release on his enemies. And lets also not forget those vicious knees. Chuck Norris lol Lidell may have a strong chin, but so does Wanderlei,since he has been fighting bare-knuckle brawls, and MMA since his earliest years. Chuck can drop atomic bombs, one-punch devastators, but he has to get those off in the first place.
This fight has the potential to live up to the gladiator fights of old times: Both men are fighting for their existence,for their honor,for their dignity,and for their right to continue living the dream of being a top-notch MMA fighter. This one will either be over fast,or it will turn into a Griffin-Bonnar-style all-out war with someone getting ktfod in the most likely 3rd round.

he may be able to maintain endurance, strength, skill etc. during training but reflexes and such seem to fade with age. and it looks as though it’s starting to happen with him already.

and that’s definitely a problem w/ his (static, one-dimensional) counter-punching style. deterioration in reflexes don’t affect wrestlers and grapplers as much.

SO FAR, i see Wandy taking this fight. If the Jardine/Liddell Chuck comes anywhere close to the octagon, he’s going to lose, and in likely devastating fashion.
I honestly think Wand is back though. Look at the dedication.
Moved his family to America. Learning English. Chute Box trained. Xtreme Couture trained. Looks to be in great shape.
Is also learning to strum the media.

Alexanders loss…. did you see it? He got worked by a better fighter. He totally froze on the ground and started blocking punches with his chin. Certainly not the best strategy. I like Houston, but we all got carried away. He will be back no doubt, but he did not throw that fight.
Silva is dangerous, just like every other Silva.

I have no idea if fights are being fixed, but lets look at UFC as a corporate entity. There is WAY more money invested in the BRAND UFC then any gambling could generate in one fight.

Silva has a really strong chin. Watch the shots he took from Mark Hunt, and he recovered incredibly fast.

And though the Hamil and Bisping fight was a touch off, it wasn’t THAT clear cut to me and obvious that Hamil won. Bisping made it close

Since Jardine beat Chuck I have to believe Wandy can inflict as much damage if not more. Wandy for the win.

Gotta put my money on Wandi for this one. Like both guys, but Chuck has begin to show that he cannot hang with top competition as of late, maybe it was a fluke who knows, but there is no such evidance with Wandi. Hope he comes back the same old Wandi as ever.

I saw Chuck and Hackelman up in SLO, he looks ready and focused and says that he’s got as more intensity built up than he did for Tito. He has an attitude when he talks about Wanderlei, he’s ready for a war!

A lot of people have been waiting for this fight, including the fighters, but I think it’s bad timing for Lidell. He’s coming off of 2 losses, one of which was by KO when he lost his title. There’s no way he is 100% mentally, but he may not have much of a chance on the 29th if he’s shakey at all.

I like both guys, but emotionally, I want Chuck to win via KO late in the 3rd (at the end of a great long fight). But if I were putting money on it, I would have to go with Silva.

If Wanderlei rushes in and Chuck connects with a good shot, personally I think Wanderlei can handle it… he have seen worse days for sure.

You can see how focused Wandy is for this fight by the brightness of his teeth!

For the record, I’ve never been a Chuck fan - I’ve always felt he was overrated. He’s too one-dimensional. Sprawl counter punch. That will work against grapplers because he’s got a damn good sprawl, but his striking is not and never has been the best despite common belief. He does hit hard, I’ll give him that.

Wanderlei has more ways to win this fight and should pull it out if he can avoid getting laid out by a Chuck overhand right. I think he can and will do that in this 3-rounder.

I’m not a Chuck hater, but after him winning so many fights in a row, it was kinda satisfying seeing the “what the hell just happened” look on his face after Rampage caught him. Perhaps we’ll see it again!

Wandy is a better fighter hands down.Chuck doesn’t have a chance at winning this one exept a miracle.All you chuck fans know that if Rampage did it Wandy can do it also, plus he can make it exciting.Wandy is the new LHW campion.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves, yes wandy can beat chuck but Rampage and Henderson… That could be another story.

If/when chuck loses I think you will see chuck fight Houston A. That would be a big a$$ fight. And one that either guy could win.

They will pit Rampage vs Forest cause Rampage will win. Then they will pit Wandy vs SOKO… Forest will Fight Jardine and Loser of Wandy and SOKO will take on Henderson.

This division is stacked wickedly. I love it but other than chuck and wandy who in the division have they really matched up to date for position.

im full of mixed views on this one, i really want chuck to win as i am a big fan. However listening to some of your views i have to say it is a daunting task for liddell. In true fact he hasnt really beaten a true striker in a while, that said, his striking and stand up i feel is better than he is getting credit for, my main worry for chuck is that he is open to strikes too often. I dont feel the clinch will be an issue, iv seen videos on chuck training defence on this and it looks pretty good.
Its a great fight, and styles make fights, these two guys both have the ability to knock each other out that is the appealing factor of the fight. Although i have to say i think there is a twinkle of fear in the eye of the axe murderer, where as chuck is chuck and i honestly believe he fears nobody!
Heres how its goin down……
Chuck enters calm as can be with his bouncing stride to the octagon, atmosphere electric as the hairs on the back of your neck stand!! The axe murderer stares accross the octagon at liddell full of intent, chuck closes in after both fighters have been introduced and Big john says “lets fight” ….
Silva a little more cautious than usual makes his way to liddell, before a birrage of blows are exchanged, one of which is a straight right from liddell close in to silvas eye, first blood spilt….
At the start of round two, silva seems more confident and catches liddell, although is unable to secure the clinch, IT is at this point liddell throws a high kick and lands before landing numerous big punches to send the axe murederer to the canvas, liddell jumps on him to explode with more blows before big john has to call a stop to the contest
