“Leonard (Garcia) is such a great fighter and a strong guy, but he walks around at like three pounds over weight. He had to eat the morning of the weigh-ins the last time. We’ve got to bring him down a weight class where he’s going to be more effective…. We talked after his last fight and 145 is where he’s going to be. I’m really looking forward to proving ourselves in that division in the WEC.”
Trainer Greg Jackson talks about the move his fighter, Leonard Garcia, will soon make to the 145-pound weight class in the Zuffa-owned World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) promotion from the UFCs 155-pound division. “Bad Boy” is perhaps best known for his gritty losing performance to Roger Huerta at UFC 69: “Shootout” … not his submission win over “Monstah Lobstah” at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5 Finale.

ha ha ha Leonard Garcia Sucks!
He will be a destructive force at 145… I hope to god they move this devision up to the UFC at some point… It would be good to see Faber etc in the Octagon
what???? Everyone remembers his win over Monstah Lobstah!!! Greatest win ever!
“It would be good to see Faber etc in the Octagon”
WEC is in an octagon.
I must be way out of the loop. Who is monstah lobstah? I see more than a few references to this guy.
Good for him. I really like Leonard Garcia. But, why did they take a picture of Leonard in front of a Hertz Rental Car??? There’s no way he owns that car making $3k per fight…
There are actually a lot of good solid fighters at 145. Faber of course, and Jeff Curran, but there is also Cub Swanson and Micah Miller and Jens Pulver and… FYI - Cub is the real deal. He is going to beat the piss out of Pulver unless Jens somehow connects perfectly with the chin for a 1 punch KO.

Totally agree..I’ve seen just a few of Cub’s fights..and he’s the goods. what would really make this even deeper is if Frankie Edgar is thrown in the mix. Edgar is a true 145′r.
The full WEC 31 card is now complete and with 3 title fights:
Champ Urijah Faber vs. Jeff Curran (for featherweight title)
Champ Paulo Filho vs. Chael Sonnen (for middleweight title)
Champ Doug Marshall vs. Ariel Gandulla (for light heavyweight title)
Jens Pulver vs. Cub Swanson
John Alessio vs. Todd Moore
Chance Farrar vs. Micah Miller
Brian Bowles vs. Marcos Galvao
Dominick Cruz vs. Charlie Valencia
Bryan Baker vs. Eric Schambari
who?
That’s a great card, I cannot wait. Garcia is a good addition to the already strong 145 class in WEC.

Good lord man. You need to go purchase the full DVD collection of The Ultimate Fighter season 5, on sale now at Best Buy and other fine retailers in time for Christmas. Dana, you know where to send my royalty checks.
Monstah Lobstah, aka Alan Berube, is some dude who moved from Maine, thick accent and all, to Florida and opened a somewhat successful lobster and seafood restaurant. He entered a few local matches merely as a way to publicize his restaurant, although he really has no business being in a ring. He is best known for instigating the infamous TUF 5 backyard brawl between Marlon “300 street fights against 10 guys at a time” Sims and Noah “Concrete Hurts my Head” Thomas.

hehehehehehheehe..
I saw the Garcia vs. Huerta fight on Unleashed last night… Gotta love that kid! he was taking a beating and wouldnt quit and was smiling while getting punched in the face repeatedly.
Oh and ViolentMike… There’s no way that is a Rental car. It has pimped out wheels, and its just a Dodge Charger… please don’t get violent on me:)

its only a Dodge Charger, not really an expensive car and nowadays 24s arent even that expensive so I can see that being his car…….
Nice post again pw. Up there with the tito bash a couple days ago

The Ultimate Fighter 5 is not out on DVD nor will it be till at least May or June of 2008.
Garcias a good fighter and has great sportsmanship, even his losses we’re good efforts.
But yeah if he’s putting on weight to fight at 155lbs then it’s a good idea he drop down.
Also I would love for the ufc to take in the 145lbs division maybe kick up it’s popularity with a ultimate fighter season being dedicated to it and of course Faber would be part of it one way or another.
I think he could be a good gatekeeper for the WEC at 145 but with guys like Faber and Curran and Pulver, I don’t see him making it to the top.
I just watched the Huerta/Garcia fight again last night and was noticing how much stronger Huerta was. He pretty much pushed him into the cage and got the takedowns at will cuz of the size advantage. So this is proabably a good move for Lenny.
I can’t wait for something like Garcia/Swanson, Tapia, or Moreng. Excellent potential fights right there.
[quote comment=”221109″]”It would be good to see Faber etc in the Octagon”

Inside the UFC Octagon numbnuts… It’s trademarked for the UFC so in WEC its called “The Cage”

Fight of the night maybe. Don’t they get like $40k for that? I know he won it for the Huerta fight at least. Add in whatever off the records bonuses he might have gotten, and he very well could have afforded it. Either that or he blew his fotn bonus on it, which is probably the more likely explanation
I think there are at least a few others guys in the ufc who could make a successful move to 145. Edgar and Florian are the main ones I can think of. If the 145 division of the WEC was more prestigious I imagine at least those 2 would compete in it

That’s Greg Jackson’s car and Garcia just finished washing it.
That has to be his car… chargers are cheap and wheels nowadays are also cheap.. I could see him rolling in that.. Especially since he’s from texas.. That’s how they roll..

Wow, I’m catching a lot of heat for my comment about his car!!! I’m not exactly a car expert, so it looked like a BMW to me. And it was actually more of a rib at the UFC brass for only paying this talented, well-liked, up and comer a handfull of pennies for fighting in the UFC.
ACTUALLY, Leonard moving down to 145 and the WEC is the best thing possible for his fans. Garcia was not going to be on the main card of a ppv again. In the WEC, his fights will (should) be aired on the main card.
I have been VERY happy since the WEC moved over to the Versus channel - I love it, and its in HD!!!!! I have Comcast and I have just about every single channel they offer. But, thier basic package does not include the VS channel. However, I heard that VS will be moving over to the digital basic package so if you have Comcast Digital and don’t have the VS channel, you should have it by Christman, unfortunately I doubt it will be in time for the next event next Wednesday.
Yeah it is His car. i saw him in it the other day in lubbock at the mall AGAIN!!!. im not shure that he gets paid that much to afford that car but he did try to sell me something to try and catch up to his payments. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. he needs to go to the WEC and get hammered then they will move him down to like WEST TEXAS MMA. HAHAHAHAH.. LOSER. SHHOOOOOOWWWWWWW!!!!!

The first part of your post was hysterical, but I actually think that Leonard can be a force to be reckoned with at 145. Can he go and beat Urijah Faber tomorrow? I highly doubt it. But I wouldn’t mind seeing him give it a try after about a little more than a year of success in the division.
ALSO regarding the WEC event. Rumor has it that the winner of Cub Swanson/Jens Pulver (or should I just say Cub Swanson) will be the #1 contender to fight the winner of Faber/Curran.

We need more WEC reminders on here. I get the Vs. network on my basic package with Charter, even though it’s hard to find at channel 200-something. They usually have some good fights for free.

Plus it is broadcast in HD as well. I wish spike would do the same thing for the UFC. It is a real head scatcher that UFC fight night is not.
good he is too small, he will do good in the 145 pound class i think he will excell alot in wec.
Hope to see great things from this guy. I just watched a replay of the Huerta fight last night. Garcia is a tough dude with tremendous heart. I hope he will sharpen his ground game and be a force at 145. Great move for him !

The car is a Dodge,, ever stop to think he may have had a job in the past few years???
Cars! Fighting! Money! I just grew hair somewhere brand new! This is my all new mantra of manhood. Saying it 4 times fast will literally grow you extra balls. And does anyone know why they didnt make a few charger daytona’s with the huge spoiler? That car was sick.
that car is way to big for that kid in the picture.

The WEC plays their version of UFC Unleashed, called “Wrekcage” and it is on every Wednesday at 9 oclock. Usually they’ll play a couple of episodes. They also play it at random times throught the week, but Wednesday is the day for WEC on Versus. Also, their big event will be free on VS on Dec. 12th. Excellent Card! I like this card way better than the televised portion of UFC 78!!!
Also, previously, Wendnesday was also the day they show that show ‘TapOut’ on Versus. Its on either right before or right after “Wrekcage”.
And, YEAH MANIA, since its now MMAmania, I was also REALLY looking forward to seeing more news on the WEC and EliteXC. Any late breaking news on the Dec. 12th WEC event would be TREMENDOUSLY APPRECIATED. Thanks, VM

I wouldnt mind seeing leonard knock out urijah. but leonard wont do it. urijah is a superior wrestler man. Oh and the Cub/pulver fight i think jens would have the slight upper hand in this fight due to the fact that hes fought with the best light weights the UFC had to offer like BJ penn. but i cant wait to see who wins this one. Cub is also one of my favorites…..man it is very hard to choose on that one. i agree it is an pretty good card!!!

Knee2thaface, why would you even blast Leonard about getting “hammered” and calling him a “loser” then try to come back and post that you “wouldn’t mind seeing him KO Urijah”? Hey bro, a lot of people strive their best to become someone in this world and I give all respect to Leonard for doing what he does. He has gone out there and has given it all in 3 fights in the UFC granted, he was 1-2 in the UFC, but he still has a hell of heart to get out there and fight his a@@ off. He has done a hell of a lot that a lot of people dream of doing and will probably never make it. Do I agree with your 2 posts? No, I don’t, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. That is why there’s blogs right? I am not sure if you have a personal grudge against him or if your possibly hating b/c you’ll never make the dream that you’ve been chasing when in fact, he did.
Great news! I’m tired of Garcia getting pushed around by these bigger guys. Now we get to see what He can really do…
Garcia would get destroyed by Urijah. It would be a lot more one-sided than Garcia/Huerta. Urijah is about as well rounded as they come. There was another thread where a bunch of Edgar fans were stating that he could beat Urijah at 145. No way. Urijah wins that battle anywhere the fight goes. He’s better on his feet than Edgar and better on the ground.

Lenny will be back in the UFC! He may not have the best record (1-2) there but he has provided some really exciting fights. give him a couple wins in WEC and he will once again rock it out in the UFC hopefully with better results. As far as commenting on his car that is how we roll in Texas “Little boys still pushing big wheels”. Now with all that being said “Go kick some a$$ Leonard!
