where’s my prize? Gsp is going to need it, Hughes has got his number this time. There want be any stand up this time, Hughes learned his lesson last time.
Denis Kang might be able to help GSP, but in all honestly does it matter who GSP trains with? He has trained with Jackson and his Canadian camp, and he has been phenominal.

Ummm, the fight always start on the feet. And if you think Matt Hughes will just shoot, shoot, shoot, and never get tagged for it, you’re kidding yourself.
Let us not forget that Hughes couldn’t take GSP down in GSP-Hughes II and GSP will be a ton better than he was in that fight. Additionally, Josh Koscheck (arguably the best pure wrestler in the UFC) was taken down at will by GSP.
That being said, if Hughes doesn’t feel like standing, he can feel free to take it wherever he would like and GSP will not only be ready but ready to dominate. This fight will be a good war but one whose winner is pretty clear four of the five rounds.
these two are going to bang! Who thinks Hughes can take him down? The fight will be where ever GSP wants it. The only way he could lose is Serra style or Cardio.
where’s my prize? Gsp is going to need it, Hughes has got his number this time. There want be any stand up this time, Hughes learned his lesson last time.
Yeh thats IF…. Big IF Hughes can take the mighty Rush down. I hoe not!!
I think GSP will pull it out (bloody). Let us not forget that Hughes is one of the best 5 round fighters in the game.
I dont think this fight goes five rounds…first one to capitalize on a mistake wins..this will be a different fight…noone gets steam rolled in this one. I think it will be a bit closer but GSP knocks him out.

GSP by majority decision, 49-46, 48-47, 49-46.
I agree with your whole assesment except I do not see Matt hughes lasting 5 rounds against GSP. Matt hughes aint no Dan Henderson, he can be easily KO’ed, I dont see Hughes being able to get GSP on the ground, with that said, Hughes will be forsed to stand, and in no way will he be able to stand n trade with GSP for 25 minutes. I smell a KO brewing, and Hughes will be on the loosing end of it!
Anyone know when Kang’s contract will expire. When it does I hope Dana signs him…He is cioming off of a KO loss but he is still one of the best at 185. I would like to see him fight the winner of Hendo vs. Silva…. but it wont happen cuz even if Kang were to sign with the ufc IMMEDIATELY, HE WILL STILL PROBABLY NEED 2 WINS IN THE OCTAGON BEFORE GETTING A SHOT AT THE TITLE.
I expect that Hughes will be the best he’s ever been. If his comments on TUF are to be believed “I have 3-4 more fights left in me” then losing to GSP will REALLY put a kybosh on any “cementing my legacy” fights.
I’m rooting for GSP, I find him a more exciting fighter but anyone who thinks GSP is going to walk through Hughes this fight is dreaming.
I can’t believe someone asked Georges if he’s ever popped a boner during a fight…that was hilarious. It would have been even funnier if he would’ve answered it.

i will thanks… they should have asked someone with a little more personality
This is going to be a very exciting fight. I agree with what Hughes said on the conference call about not being in top shape for his last fights. If you look at him a 3-4 years ago and look at him during his last fights, he’s definitely not the same. GSP is in for a long night.
GSP is going to win this fight in two to three rounds Matt Hughes was stupid to take it but may have looked a bit of a coward if he didnt .GSP will rule the ww division for two to three more fights then move up to middle weight. go GSP
GSP should win, although I don’t like the fact this is a 5 round fight and he only has a few weeks to train and cut weight. This will even things up a bit and give Hughes more of a chance. The longer the fight goes, the better for Hughes as well.
yeah your right, if Hughes didn’t take this fight he would look like a coward. He HAD to take this fight (or any fight) to maintain his “legendary” and “great” status. So, Hat’s off to Hughes for accepting, however this will be a very long night OR a very short night for him. GSP is head and shoulders above Anyone in the WW division, and it WILL stay that way for a while. Its’ that easy. GSP has man-handled everyone who Hughes and him has faoght seperately, AND THEN he man-handled Hughes after that. Sure Hughes has a different strategy now (or so he says) but look where that got Koscheck, Trigg, and then eventually himself. AND not to mention…what part of Hughes’ game is better than GSP’s? Can’t think of one? that’s cuz you’re right. Sorry Matt. Your numbers’ been drawn.
If Gsp keeps improving he’ll be almost impossible to stop, Hughes will need all the prayers of all his followers that night, because I’m not sure if jesus himself could save him.
Get Denis Kang in the ufc! That’s just what the MW devision needs. I give this one to St. Pierre in the same fashion. TKO late in the first or early in the second. Hughes doesn’t have anything new to bring to the table. GSP has his number.
For all of you GSP nut lickers, you all compare Matt Hughes to Kos or Trigg, thinking what they couldn’t do to GSP is the same for Hughes, your all full of it. And I know you all are going to say Hughes couldn’t take him down in the second fight, for that he only tried once maybe twice and didn’t put much effort into it. In the second fight Hughes thought his stand up was so improved, but he found out different. Hughes will take GSP down to the ground in this fight, it might take a few tries, but it will happen.
gsp kill hughes first round under three minutes, hughes goes into retirement. Then a year later will come out of retirement to face Matt Serra because Serra called him a dick in a future interview.

Good point, and I agree. I wonder if GSP will be thinking that his fight will be a cake walk and that played a factor in his decision to take the fight on short notice? If so - advantage Hughes. Unfortunately, there aren’t many more advantages that would go to Hughes. Hughes does have the experience advantage, especially when it comes to title fights. And I would also give Hughes the mental toughness edge as well. A possible one could be conditioning if GSP has difficulties cutting weight or rehydrating. However, other than those, I don’t see Hughes having any other advantages over GSP in this fight.
it would be awesome to see these 2 go for 5 rounds and have a war remember if matt last first3 rounds St.Pierre never been past that time zone not saying that he couldnt make it believe me im rooting for GSP but, he hasnt trained properly for a fight let alone a 5 round title fight still i think GSP will once again demonstrate why his loss to Serra was a fluke and after that he can go and demolish Serra, hes fighting BIG MATT and then lil matt, and the best part of all this is that I am going to this event woowhooo dude i was pretty exited about Liddell vs Silva and Hughes fighting but add GSP to it oh my f*%#king god its the best birthday/x-mas gift ever predictions (Liddell wins by knockout late 1st early 2nd though i really really doubt this fight will go to 2nd round and GSP to become interim welterweight champion in a dominant fashion like there 2nd fight

thats the only thing that sucks Hughes will have to face some one like Fitch or if Koscheck wins in a dominant fashion his next fight then only then will serra husges happen unless after gsp beats both of them they hold of on any bout until they can fight each other any who lets just pray that Silva nor Liddell get hurt

I think GSP will be on his back a couple of times, but his ground game has kept on improving. BJ wasn’t able to submit GSP and he’s a better ground guy than Hughes.
GSP said in the interview that he has something very specific planned for Hughes. He said the same thing when he fought Kos. That special thing turned out to be wrestling, he ended up out wrestling Kos. I wonder if he plans to out wrestle Hughes, and put him on his back (where Hughes is not used to being).
In that case we may not see a knock out, this could be a grappling match. GSP must have a lot of confidence in his wrestling after the Kos fight.
We all know he could have stood up and out boxed Koscheck, but instead he decided to beat him with his own weapon (wrestling). I think hes going to try and give Matt a dose of GnP. Matt better work on his BJJ.

right on even with short notice GSP will destroy hughes hopefully in a more devistating fashion how cool would it be to see matt hughes be knock out like how nate quarry got knock out just fall down like a big sack of shit that would be cool!!!!!!
I’m just curious to see if Hughes can get GSP on his back. In any GSP fight I’ve seen, it just seems like GSP is impossible to take down, he’s like a slab of solid muscle. It’s also weird watching GSP take people down. It happens so fast and so easily, like taking people down is so easy anyone can do it.
Plus Hughes hasn’t ever fought against ribbons. I mean “riddum”.

your lucky
Im actually going to pick Hughes to win this one. Hughes has been fired up enough this season to beat both Serra and GSP at the same time. It’ll be close.
hughes only hope is to get him to the ground, and thats not going to be easy, even if he gets him there gsp should be able to defend himself and get up quickly.i think gsp’s wrestling has improved so much that he may be just as good as hughes and thats hughes only strong point.
GSP has said in two interviews now that he wants to be a ledgend in this sport and that he has big plans ahead ,i dont care what all the Matt Hughes fans have to say or fitch fans for that matter ,GSP is the top dog in the WW division ,he is the most technically gifted fighter in that division by far ,and those who question his ground game should learn a little something about it before they criticise .His ground game is solid,, his bjj will back him up in any sticky situations and his strikes and timing are precision in motion .Matt Hughes was a brilliant champion ,no doubt, but he has not got the tools to defeat GSP ,and the deciding factor is, GSP knows it.that being said there will soon be no other genuine challanges in that division, look at the interviews he is already dropping hints he will not stay in that division
Matt hughes is in trouble for sure! All douters who think GSP is not goign to win…wait till u c his walk to the cage…going to be intense!! I can already c it…GSP by arm bar first rd!!!

I still havent forgotten those superman puch into leg kick combo’s that GSP kept blasting Koschek with through out the whole fight. That was a nice ass combo that he landed repeatedly in that fight.
Also, GSP is at an all time high with his confidence in his wrestling. Before Serra got caught he stated that he was gettin bored waiting for the winner of Serra/Hughes and he was thinking about competing in some wrestling competition in canada.
I wonder how Dana would have felt about that, since he was having a heart attack at the thought of Fedor competing in Russian sambo while under contract with the UFC?
Why is everyone so fixated on GSP moving up in weight. Whats wrong with dominating a division like hughes did. GSP is the best fighter at 170 but he has not yet dominated the division….he still has some challenges:
1st: He has yet to successfully defend his title.
2nd: Avenge his loss to Serra
3rd: John Fitch (who will be his toughest opponent so far)
4th: We all know Bj Penn wont stay at 155 forever, and he has already said he wants a rematch with GSP and HUghes)
He has got some unfinished business before moving up to 185. But I have to admit GSP vs. Henderson, Silva, Rich Franklin, Kang do sound entertaining, but 1st dominate your division…then he can move up in weight!

I doubt GSP will underestimate anyone ever again, after getting caught by Serra. GSP is to professional to let that happen again… I see a mentally strong and focused GSP finishing Hughes. He has already gotten that win under his belt under a tough opponent (kos) after the unexpected and humbling loss to Serra. GSP will have the eye of the tiger when walking towards the ring and when a top fighter has that look in his eye, like Anderson has and like GSP had the last time against hughes…They win!

It wasn’t even close. Why was it like that? It was no fluke, otherwise you all would not be talking about how great he is. don’t forget that.
GSP has proven to remain inconsistant in many areas, including training. He’s a training ho!
He’s training with golden gloves boxers who are peaking when he is and national wrestlers who are peaking when GSP is and then he’s training with Rashad Not with jackson!?!?!?
Then he’s doing water ballet.
Give Matt hughes credit, he’s the most dominate ww in UFC history. till this day until otherwise.
I am so glad the Serra fight was canceled. This is a much better fight in every aspect.
You must be new. That’s the only way I can justify that comment. Serra is a seasoned vet, and probably one of the nicest guys in the sport (likewise for GSP) Serra deserves his shot at Hughes because Hughes is an egotistical prick and I know Serra could beat him.
GSP is my favourite fighter by far, and yes this fight will be awesome, but don’t discredit Serra. Serra vs. Hughes might be just as good of a fight as GSP vs. Hughes, it just depends on how bad you’d like to see Hughes get beat, that’s all.
It’s all about politics though, Hughes is old now, he’s on his way out… that’s the only reason why this fight is for the interim title. That and the fact Dana White hates matt serra because he “got lucky” and he’s not “Marketable”
GSP will own Hughes, then GSP will own Serra, hopefully Serra vs. Hughes still happens down the road.

I didn’t know you invented “nut lickers”? Congrats. I guess we differ in what we see, because I didn’t see a fighter that was so confident in his standup. I find it funny that Hughes supporters say he intentionally kept that fight standing and that he thought he would “catch” GSP. Intheir first fight GSP was getting the best of Hughes in the standup and when the fight went to the ground he caught GSP in an armbar. Even if Hughes thought he could beat GSP in a standup battle, it would only take an intelligent fighter (which Hughes is) a couple of mintutes to realize that he was in for a long night standing. In my opinion GSP’s takedown defense and wrestling had improved so much and his standup was so good that Hughes had no choice but to be a punching bag. Up to the Serra fight, nobody had ever “caught” GSP and knocked him out (he has a great chin, see BJ fight) so your theory that he wanted to stand with GSP the whole fight is flat out wrong….

LOL is this sarah? sarah’s win was extremely lucky over gsp kind of like me walking into a dart tournament and beating the top guy by throwing a perfect bullseye. Would that be “lucky” well duh of course it would, but according to this guys, sarah’s wins was no “fluke”, he’s never beaten top competition before and “tko’s” the best in the division in the first round??????? Sarah’s a joke and anyone with any common sense realizes that, he’ll be out of the top 10 within a year if he can fight again in a few months.
With regards to Hughes’s take down attempts and not putting “much effort into it”.. Is a load of crap… He didn’t take GSP down because he couldn’t. I can see it now..Humm I am putting my title on the line…I’ll just go in and do whatever.
With regards to comparing KOS and Trigg to HUghes…We are not comparing as exact prototypes but more with regards to their wrestling skills. Those two guys (trigg and Kos) are highly touted wrestlers with great credentials and GSP took both them out. Little known fact that if GSP wasn’t fighting in the UFC he would be competing in professional wrestling (not WWE but Olympic wrestling).
Hughes is no moron..GSP just got the best of him that night. There was no way Hughes was going to Win that match. And Serra’s win was no fluke…he threw the punch, it landed, he won - end of story.
GSP is winning this fight near the end of round two by TKO.

where’s my prize? Gsp is going to need it, Hughes has got his number this time. There want be any stand up this time, Hughes learned his lesson last time.
Hughes has no choice where the fight will be fought. GSP is better than him at EVERYTHING, YES INCLUDING WRESTLING. Hughes didn’t take GSP down, because he COULDN’T. Don’t you think Matt would have abandoned, the standup (when he was getting OWNED)and went to old faithfull (his takedowns) if he could, so he could have won the fight, rather than keep taking a beating. GSP is better than when they fought last time and he looked huge when he fought Kos. Matt won’t make it out of the first round this time. GSP is just a bad match up for him.
I think gsp could hold his own against ANYONE in mma, has anyone even come close to out wrestling him???? He’s fought some pretty decorated wrestlers and is an athletic freak, I really wouldn’t be surprised if he could compete at the highest level.

I agree with most of what this guy said but strongly disagree that serra win wasn’t a fluke. You really think serra’s that good??, the fight screams fluke to me, like me splitting an arrow or something like that, it could happen but its no way in hell testament to my skill, why can’t people see that??? If I ko’ed chuck liddel because he didn’t know I was a kickboxer and took me lightly is that a fluke??? I guarantee it can happen, every fighter has a punchers chance, you need to look up fluke and get an understanding of what it means. Me throwing a perfect bullseye in darts is a fluke because my skill level isn’t very good and it makes me lucky. Gsp’s skill level is much higher than serra’s with kickboxing, anyone who knows anything about kickboxing knows this, its so obvious. That fight was a one in a million fight, serra’s skill level is at best average with striking, I really don’t get how so many are so impressed with his striking with gsp, he looked like shit to me. Gsp made a mistake, for some reason got too close and when he ducked serra clipped him with his forearm behind the ear and the rest is history. It is EXACTLY like me hitting a perfect bullseye in some tournament and beating a much better opponent, to me I would call it “lucky” or a fluke I guess we see things differently. Gsp does have very good kickboxing the only mma fighter who I see as much better is anderson silva who is as close to super human as they come. I really wish the gsp/serra fight could have gone on for another round or two because I wouldn’t be ranting like a nut here, if would be obvious even for serra nut huggers.
Serra’s like the guy who sometimes misses the entire dart board and gets close to the bulls eye on other occasions but april 7/07 he hit that bulleyes dead center, and trust me there was a hell of a lot more luck involved than skill. Please explain this to me how my scenario is any different that swinging for the fences at another fighter???? Throwing the dart, you have intent, but sometimes
I really hope this 3rd fight is better than the first 2 times these to met.
where’s my prize? Gsp is going to need it, Hughes has got his number this time. There want be any stand up this time, Hughes learned his lesson last time.
Could I have put the word time in there one more time.
Denis Kang might be able to help GSP, but in all honestly does it matter who GSP trains with? He has trained with Jackson and his Canadian camp, and he has been phenominal.
I am looking for a war at UFC 79.

What?? GSP vs Hughes II is one of the best fights ever..
I hope you mean a more competitive fight.. because their last fight was good.
GSP by majority decision, 49-46, 48-47, 49-46.
these two are going to bang! Who thinks Hughes can take him down? The fight will be where ever GSP wants it. The only way he could lose is Serra style or Cardio.
This fight isn’t going the distance..GSP would win either by submission or knockout. He’s better than Hughes in everything, even defending takedowns
where’s my prize? Gsp is going to need it, Hughes has got his number this time. There want be any stand up this time, Hughes learned his lesson last time.
Yeh thats IF…. Big IF Hughes can take the mighty Rush down. I hoe not!!
that would be hope not
I am so glad the Serra fight was canceled. This is a much better fight in every aspect.
I think GSP will pull it out (bloody). Let us not forget that Hughes is one of the best 5 round fighters in the game.
p.s…cool pic mania, any pic where Hughes is getting schooled is quality!

I dont think this fight goes five rounds…first one to capitalize on a mistake wins..this will be a different fight…noone gets steam rolled in this one. I think it will be a bit closer but GSP knocks him out.
Hughes was lucky to win against Penn had a really pathetic fight against Lytle which went to the judges, GSP will destroy him again, without doubt.

I’m rooting for GSP, I find him a more exciting fighter but anyone who thinks GSP is going to walk through Hughes this fight is dreaming.
is 4 weeks enough time to prepare for a 5 round title fight especially when you havent fought in 5 months? I ask you Bloggers

I DO!! I guess that theory is shot.
yeah your right, if Hughes didn’t take this fight he would look like a coward.
Hughes is in big trouble. Mark my words. Hughes will know he is in a fight the second the first round bell sounds..
Then a year later will come out of retirement to face Matt Serra because Serra called him a dick in a future interview.
one last thing,
Reggie Warren Jr VS GSP, who takes it? or should i say which round will Reggie demolish the French Canadian?

Their last fight was awesome. Nothing like watching someone school someone.
hughes only hope is to get him to the ground, and thats not going to be easy, even if he gets him there gsp should be able to defend himself and get up quickly.i think gsp’s wrestling has improved so much that he may be just as good as hughes and thats hughes only strong point.

I don’t know what all YOU Hughes nut lickers don’t understand…he COULDN”T take him down and he didn’t attempt as many takedowns as he would have liked because he was constantly eating kicks and punches. Watch the fight again for crying out loud.
GSP is a head trip guy. One never knows where he will be mentally until the fight . We all know this!
And anyone can get caught, Serra beat him, and not only beat him but kicked his Canadian arse!

Matt tried and he realized it was fruitless ,so he was forced to be a punching bag. Just face the realality, your boy is going to take a BEATING, AGAIN.
GSP is a head trip guy. One never knows where he will be mentally until the fight . We all know this!
And anyone can get caught, Serra beat him, and not only beat him but kicked his Canadian arse!
GSP is a head trip? WHY? because the ONE , THAT’s RIGHT “ONE” time he wasn’t prepared, when his cousin DIED and his dad had a serious ailment. GSP does train with GREG JACKSON and anyone who isn’t a head trip, knows that.

I don’t know what all YOU Hughes nut lickers don’t understand…he COULDN”T take him down and he didn’t attempt as many takedowns as he would have liked because he was constantly eating kicks and punches. Watch the fight again for crying out loud.
I guess you couldn’t come up with anything better so you went with my saying. Oh well, I have watched the fight many times, we differ in what we see. Hughes was so confident that his stand up had gotten better, that he stuck with it to the end, thinking he could catch GSP. This fight will be different.

I strongly agree
