I agree with you about the principles concept. I also mentioned that he didn’t articulate his case very well which is what you are pointing out as well so I see us in agreement there also.

I also believe that there is an explanation for why he set up his defense the way he did, namingly, he is not as skilled as the Fertittas and Dana (but mostly the Fertittas). It appears the he felt the need to speak out against Kevin Iole who made Couture out to be making more money than he was thus discrediting Couture’s claim. Notice that is how he started out the press conference. He also addressed the tacky Dana comments about his agent which also made Couture look bad. Couture decided to rebut that because that was disrespectful and Couture was tired of all the disrespect and that was a perfect example of Dana’s inherent shadyness so he used it as part of his platform to build his “swimming up stream” claim. I see an honest guy who fought the way he knew how, whether it was polished or not, and he hoped his statements would be measured up against his reputation which at this point wasn’t that of a Whiner, that is Tito’s gig. To this day Tito deals directly with the Fertittas and not Dana.

I see your point and that may be the insight into it, I also can see how others feel the total opposite, that Couture actually lied. However, maybe where we differ is not that Couture wasn’t trying to be honest and did not have a legitimate beef. I’m placing a greater responsibility on Couture for being who he is as an MMAFighter/business person, he’s not some backwoods yahoo. He has dealt publicly with political issues of MMA in the past as a spokesperson that has articulated perfectly the reasons why MMA should be a legalized sport. He’s college educated, owns several small businesses around MMA and has successfully negotiated his contracts with the UFC in the past. Couture made multiple and careless errors in that one press conference which did not benefit anyone least of all himself. I agree with the principle but in the end it’s what you do, that leaves it’s mark. I feel his press conference errors revoling around $$$ figures greatly overshadowed anything Dana may have started with Kevin Iole.

Let’s get straight to it and say that Randy did a phenomenal job at UFC 74 in defending his title. As a fan and a fellow Washingtonian I was happy to see him win. But as for the title itself — it still sits in my house. No one in UFC ever beat me for it, and as far as I am concerned, no one in the UFC can be the heavyweight champion until they take that belt off of me in the cage.

At the post fight press conference, Dana White said “there isn’t anyone in the world that can beat this guy” in reference to Randy. All this because Randy beat a guy that had less than ten fights and only one noteworthy win? That’s not even a world championship level fight, let alone reason to proclaim the winner as “unbeatable”. This comment was made even more ridiculous by the fact that I was standing right there, living proof that Randy Couture is definitely beatable.

This coming from a guy who lost to Pedro Rizzo in the UFC, Randy Cotoure rearranged Rizzos face twice. Of course he would like to fight randy for the title, but it wont happen barnett also was beaten three times by cro cop who was knocked out by gonzaga and ganzaga was litterally smashed by randy. do the math and he was stripped of his title for steroids which means he will always be viewed as a cheater.[/quote]
