I’ve been running, doing things as I was doing them in boxing…I guess now all I have to do is get down with the ground work…I’m going to be a little anxious and what have you…but I think as time progresses, I should pick it up like I pick everything else up…I ain’t got nothing else to do.

A 40-year old Riddick Bowe tells Sherdog.com that he hopes to be the first man to hold world titles in both boxing and mixed martial arts. Bowe, a former heavyweight champion and star of the 1990’s, ended a boxing comeback in 2004 after just two fights.

Yeah, I dont think he understands how many years it takes to be proficient on the ground at this level. I’m going to go beyond what Pullout said and say submitted in the first 90 seconds, no matter who his opponent is.

Legg kicks and double leg takedowns all day. He doesnt realize that traditional boxing doesnt translate directly to MMA standup. He is going to need to break OLD habbits and learn the entire MMA game

So this is a pre announcement to the announcement? Bowe is going to make a comeback. He should stick with boxing it will be much easier.

I wouldn’t mind watching him fight Silvia though.

I’m sure he beats Ray Mercer in his MMA debut. Any legit MMA matchup will result in a loss.

I am sure he can make some money fighting guys who are not well rounded, or just aren’t very good. He will probably be more of a freak show than a real MMA heavyweight. Even at his age, I don’t think too many of his opponents want to get hit with the African Soup Bone. My favorite Bowe memory was the 12th round of Bowe/Holyfield I.

Dont quote me, but I think Bowe ran into some drug and legal issues that really threw his career into a wirl.

Most of you guys sit back and say how well Lesnar would do… but this is a guy that has MORE of a puncher’s chance with EVERY punch he throws. If he trains right… he could hold a belt pretty easily Id say.

Yeah bad idea. Unless he needs the money. A British boxer (Julius Francis) fought in Cage Rage 23 and got bashed. It was pitiful.

I think they should make up a division for all the washed up has beens that don’t know when to hang em up. I’m thinking…Bowe, Holyfield, Shamrock, Gracie(I’ll let you decide which one), Frye, Coleman, Baroni…etc. It could actually be entertaining. Can you envision it:

Bowe wins by TKO(Broken Hip) over Don Frye.

What a gimmick ! When I think of Riddick Bowe a few things come to mind.

1. The Parachuting man lands in the ring when he fought Evander Holyfield. Bowe then teeing off on the guy.

2. Him getting repeatedly punched in the balls by Andrew Golata.

3. Him being in jail

This mess has no realistic chance. Shame on us for even having this clown on the site.

That’s ridiculous.

Bowe is 40 years old, probably 80 pounds overweight, severely punch drunk (read… daim bramaged) and in all likelihood has zero stamina, and zero agility left. He is a broke, drug addled convicted felon who is looking for a way to make some cash. Anyone who puts that guy in an MMA ring is being irresponsible.

Lesnar without ANY MMA training at all would stick Bowe on his back and pound him to actual death or exhaust him to actual death.

It was hard not to laugh at the “I guess now all I have to do is get down with the ground work”. I hope he’s better prepared than Ray Mercer was–well actually I don’t, it’d be great to see him get owned by someone like Kimbo. If he has any sense at all left in him, I think one MMA fight should make him realize that there are many more appealing ways to spend his old age than getting his ass handed to him in a cage.

He actually lost it and kidnapped his family or something like that. He did some time for it. He was supposed to be in great shape when leaving prison and expected to return to boxing, but wasn’t successful. Apparently he has always had a problem with his diet. He will probably sign with a low level organization that will try to use his celeb status to sell tickets.

PLEASE, lol….Just another publicity stunt, like when he joined the Marine Corps, and only lasted 5 days in boot camp. He couldn’t hang so he called his cousin. The cousin went to a nearby Ford dealership near Parris Island, SC, to purchase a new Expedition, and picked him up. I know this firsthand. The base General even gave him a tour and a “dog and pony show” prior to reporting to Parris Island…..Hey Bowe, lay off the Ganja_maan’, its making your head consider fighting MMA. My prediction, Winner= Verne Troyer by pinky toe submission in 9 seconds!!!!
