They are not stupid little tournaments. This is a big deal here. Plus, THE COMBAT SAMBO tournaments are great to watch. Dana could let Fedor go to Russia once a year to do sambo.
I didn't mean to diminish the Russian tournaments, but Dana would be foolish to pay Fedor the kind of money he wanted and have him risk injury in outside events.
they've accepted such risk in PRIDE why not to do the same in the UFC?
Oh gee - i dunno - maybe because was going bankrupt??? lol Make the connection. UFC = still going strong. PRIDE = dead (and not bc UFC killed it either - it was dying long before they bought it - that's WHY they were able to buy it so easily).

Anyone else think that when Dana was a kid he wouldn't let anybody play with his toys?
To all you thread-posters under the age of 21, this isn't a recess playground that you little kids are used to. This is real life. This is business. This is big-boy stuff that you guys apparently don't understand at all. Dana can be an jerk-off and mean person all day long but Randy's the idiot that signed a contract that he didn't like so he needs to be a man and honor it. Two more fights and he can go off and do whatever he wants after that. Dana has a mouth like a sailor and Randy is gentlemanly but it doesn't change the fact that when it comes down to this ONE issue, Randy is wrong and Dana is right.
Why the hell would somebody fight if their heart is not into it? There are two probable results:

1. He will get hurt in the match.

2. He will be very cautious and the fight will be boring.

So you would rather pay $40 for a PPV, expecting a great fight, and then it turns out to be a dud? Happy spending.

When Dana and the UFC gives fighters a contract for guaranteed cash, they do so based on the marketability of the fighter, which allows them to recoup their investment price. If a fighter takes many millions of dollars, as Fedor would have required, and subsequently injured himself in an event outside the UFC, Dana would not be able to market the fighter, as he would be unable to fight. Thus, Dana and the UFC would lose money, and that just isn't how successful businesses operate.
Sorry, but I disagree with you, man. Risk taking is a part of a successful business, in general. Second, Dana would not lose any money, 'cos ppl would wait for Fedor's recovery and pay to see him fight. Similar situation happen in PRIDE with Arona in 2003, when he broke his ankle right before his fight with Jackson...
