During the in-ring UFC 77 post-fight interview “The Maine-iac” called out Cheick Kongo after he defeated Brandon Vera. He did it again in the UFC 77 post-event press conference.
In the video above (also just after UFC 77), however, he says he’s fighting Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. “Minotauro” says he’s fighting Sylvia at UFC 81 in February on SuperBowl weekend.
What gives? Does Sylvia want Kongo but is facing “Big Nog” instead? Confusion.

Yeah i thought Kongo was fighting Nog??
Im confused
i hope Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira breaks his other arm.. i hate Tim… Go away Timmy ..
i thought it was 1st… Nog will will have his hands full with the size factor…. interesting fight.. whoe gonna win?
i hope Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira breaks his other arm.. i hate Tim… Go away Timmy ..
LOL.
Timmy’s always saying “well I guese i’ll have to knock him out”
He said it about Monson,Randy and Brandon, and he didn’t succeed in any(including AA/sylvia pt3)
What makes him think he will Knock out Nog(aka.Mr Idontget KO’d)
If the Fight happens’ Nog takes him down and submits him. done deal”sorry Timmy boy” but you aint Knocking Minataro Out..NO WAY!
I’ll simply chalk the confusion to Timmy being as dumb as he looks.
But in all seriousness, Timmy is very well spoken usually, and seems pretty down to earth, with exception of him thinking he’s the greatest fighter.
We all thought that it was official that the winner of Vera/Sylvia fights Big Nog for the HW belt. Timmy had to know this as well, so why he would call out Kongo after the fight is beyond me. Now let’s just hope that Timmy/Big Nog happens soon so we can have a champ!
I just hope that champ isn’t Tim.
I’m so tired of him talking about knocking this and that guy out. His last four fights have been decisions and the only interesting one was when he got dominated by couture.
Now let’s just hope that Timmy/Big Nog happens soon so we can have a champ!
Dana said Randy is still Champ and still has fights.
Im waiting to hear what happens when Randy and Dana can finally talk face2face in private.
Whether you Timmy haters like it or not, Tim is on his way back to the belt, and I don’t see that Nog or Kongo can stop him.
Go Timmy, Go!

Yes you’re right, they still have to talk face to face in private, and if Randy Couture gets his money in the bank, guess what? right, you guessed it.
I’d bet my house that Dana told him what to say. I’m sure that they had planned for him to fight nog but the whole Randy thing screwed everything up so after much planning and scenerio-figuring Dana and the boys realized to make more money and more exciting fights, Tim needed to fight Kongo instead. So the easiest way for them to save face is to have Silva call out Kongo. Then they are just giving the fighter what he wants and it’s not them looking like they screwed up and going back on what they originally said they were going to do.
Tim is such a big ’slothish’ boring fighter who mearly fights to not lose as opposed to going into a fight to get a win….. I hope he doesn’t fight Nog, he could BARELY even get passed Herring and would have lost that fight if Herring would have finished him instead being machismo and letting him back up…. Tim’s a waste of space. If he didn’t have his size he’d be at the bottom of the UFC totem pole……. Bring on Kongo, he’s a much more well put together fighter than Tim is. I just hope he can overcome the size difference and just go into attack mode as Randy did..
They were probably hoping for Vera-Nog, but when Tim won (and in such a boring fashion) everybody knows Tim and Kongo would be the more exciting fight. Two stand-up fighters duking it out rather than Tim clinching with Nog and pushing him up against the cage, while Nog tries to take the big man down for 3 rounds of boring action. Yawn.
Tim vs. Nog would be a better fight than Kongo vs. Nog. Kongo has very little ground skills and would be submitted as soon as he was taken down by Nog. At least Tim has good training partners for training against the submission game.
Either way, Nog wins the vacant title until Fedor or Couture fight in the UFC. I know its a long shot, but I am holding out hope.

Actually, after watching this video - it sounds more like Dana wanted him to try to create some drama between him and Kongo (regardless of who he’s fighting) so there could be some hype about a rivalry or something.
So Tim will get the belt back, Randy will come BACK out of retirement, and well get a rematch…
Actually I’d like to see Randy fight a healthy Tim Silvia, just so there can’t be any injury excuses.
All I know is Randy needs to get his a** back and defend the title or Dana lets two of them fight for the open belt, if not we will not see anyhting happen for months and months, just like Shierk holding up anything happening with his belt.
I wanted to see Kongo .vs. Nog in december.
winner fights Timmy. then winner of that is #1 contender or the fight will be for a vacant title(depending on Randy)
Tim beats down “Big Nog” TKO due to strikes… CMON heath almost knocked him the f*** out!!!
Tims first title defense will be agains Kongo..Mark my words,,,
If I had it my way, I would never see Tim Sylvia fight again.

Yes, but that was the first time anyone had even come close to knocking him out. I think it was a lucky shot and Nog will pick apart Tim with his boxing and then finish him with an Anaconda choke or something.
Timmy hit Brandon with some big shots(when they actually broke out the clinch and exchanged). So Brandon not only proved he could fight 3 rounds, he proved his chin.
I have been watching Big Nog for a long time and I have also seen alot of Brandons fights. And anyone who has watched Big Nog for the last 5/6 years will tell you that this dude has one of’ “if not” the best chins in the game. Much harder chin then Vera,Randy, and Monson. He couldn’t KO them.
If Timmy can win(witch i doubt) It will most definetly NOT be via KO.(maybe decison).
But I think Nog would tap him out.
…just my opinion
stop booing sylvia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it’s so disrespectful!!
I WAS THERE live cheering for him IN CINCINNATI!!!!!!
GO TIM!!!
hopefully goes like nog/mirko or Nog/sapp
Tim wants Kongo b/c he Kongo has no ground skills. Tim will just try to take him down and blanket him to a boring decision.
Dear Tim,
You keep saying “I’m going to have to knock his ass out.”
Please do this sometime soon. The viewers are knocking out.
tim should change his nickname to “the blanket” because he is about as exciting as one. He only beat Vera because of his size and the fact that he smothered Vera against the cage for 3 rounds. 200,000 for that…weak! Tim Sylvia is the most BORING fighter in the UFC, bar none. How much skill does it take when you are 6′8″ and 265lbs to push smaller opponents into the cage and simply lay on them. Sylvia fights like Frankenstein’s monster.

Nog might win via submission, but how can you say “NO WAY!” to a potential KO of Nog? the guy SHOULD have lost to Herring (the idiot didn’t follow through). that’s the ONLY reason Nog won that fight. if the same thing happened vs. Sylvia, Nog’s going nighty night. that guy was (as Rogan put it) “on Queer St.” until halfway through the 2nd round, off a 1st round punch. Oh, he’s DEFINITELY KO-able (yes, i just made that word up).

lol i dont think you know much about tim. That big turd will try to stand or just hold kongo the whole time.
He needs to do something with that horrible looking facial hair!
I want to like Sylvia more then I do. He has moments where he seems like an ok guy. But he always seems to do or say something stupid that makes me dislike him again. He needs a p.r. guy bad.
i called it baby. Kongo is the next champ. wait and see. then Lesner will fight Kongo within the next three fights just because and for no reason at all.

The problem with people like Tim “The ego-MAINEiac” Sylvia is even when they are healthy, there is always an excuse.

On top of that it was a perfectly timed (even if it was pure luck) kick. Nog was ducking down at the same time that Herring was kicking. That would have KO’d almost anyone in the UFC (cabbage excluded).
I’m glad that Sylvia is fighting Nog because if Nog loses then all the PRIDE fans will stop dissing UFC fighters, and if Sylvia loses then he won’t get a title shot so I probably won’t be watching any boring, sluggish, 5-round heavyweight title fights any time soon.
It’s a win-win situation.
Hopefully, Arlovski will fight Kongo soon to see who else is really at the top of the chain.

A ‘blanket’ is reserved for someone that lays-n-prays. Takes thier opponent down, stays on top and does nothing - doesn’t try to improve position, throw any meaningful strikes, or go for submissions. I would refer to him as a ‘Coat’ in his last performance.

Why does everyone beat on Tim. I thought Vera’s fear, broken hand, and game plan made this a very bad fight. When Vera gave some space the fight took on a different characteristic. Is it Tim who is afraid or is it his competition. Granted, Tim looks funny, dressed like a fat grandma with what the #$%@ on his knees, but the dude is tough and he throws and kicks with the best if given the opportunity.
All i can say about timmy is boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
I’m not a Tim fan either, too boring to watch. He was a beast when he was juiced up but then he was…er juiced up
Tim vs Kongo would be crap cos I hate Kongo too. He’s SOO beatable by anyone who can out-wrestle him. He ought to be Lesnar’s 1st fight. Easy slow big target with no ground skill.

A healthy Tim Sylvia couldnt finish a “healthy” Brandon Vera, AA, Randy, Monson… Needless to say Tim back in the game doesnt bring anything other than another body to the HW division. A really boring one at that. Tim just isnt the same fighter he used to be prior to taking the belt from AA. After he took the belt he went to becoming a fighter afraid to lose, and because of that he’s become the UFC’s (imo) laughing stock, and biggest bore (literally and figuratively). The HW division is in no need of Tim at this time, and his piss poor performance against Vera is just proof of that.

Alright I think the fight against Vera really wasnt that bad, I mean parts of it where boring but it still had its moments But good Lord, Sylvia beat the piss out of him! Stop hating over a couple of bad fights.
I knew everyone would hate Sylvia and I say it’s a good thing ’cause now everyone will get behind Nogueira if he beats Sylvia, and I think he will. It’s confusing that he called out Kongo after 77, and now he’s talking about Nog, but he should have been thinking about going directly to the title now that Randy is gone. It should be Nog vs. Sylvia, it makes the most sense right now.
Stop hating over a couple of bad fights.
it was way longer then just a couple fights. His starting to piss people off.
nog will win a unanimous decision against timmy, and then kongo has no chance against nog, no chance whatsoever, so if he gets the first crack at nog then he’ll lose, either by a sick submission or a easy 5 round decision, and then hopefully we’ll see a big nog vs. andre arlovski fight for the belt, thats the real heavyweight championship fight right there!!

Tim “the curtain” Sylvia
Fedor couldnt knockout nog…but crocop had a flash knockdown on him and yea..weve all seen crocops decent from the heights of his talent
The reason I like fighting and the UFC is . . .
1. Excitement
You never know what will happen next, unpredictable
2. Heart
I love watching a fighter like Forrest who is going balls to the wall. A guy who leaves it all on the floor
3. Excellence
Greatness at your sport, mastery of your craft.
4. Great athletes
People who are in excellent physical condition and train to be the best.
WITH ALL THAT SAID, I WATCH SILVIA AND THINK . . .
THIS DUDE IS BORING, HAS NO HEART, HE JUST LEANS ON PEOPLE, HE LOOKS LIKE A SLOB AND I’M NOT EVEN SURE IF HE IS GOOD AT FIGHTING.
HE IS THE ABSOLUTE OPPOSITE OF WHAT MAKES THIS SPORT GREAT!
p.s.
I told my buddy before the start of round 3 . . .
I think I would pay an additional 10 bucks for this fight if it DIDN’T INCLUDE SILVIA.
It actually is draining watching how damn boring he is.
Fedor couldnt knockout nog…but crocop had a flash knockdown on him and yea..weve all seen crocops decent from the heights of his talent
Cro Cop didn’t decent from the heights of his talent…he is just matched against a higher calibur of competition now so he is losing.
I don’t understand why everyone dislikes Tim Sylvia so much, or questions his takedown defense and overall talent. Tim will be champ again assuming Randy stays resigned, or someone as fast, and strong as Arlovski comes at him very aggressively.
The biggest mystery is: Does anyone really give a damn when, where, or who Sylvia fights next. I definitely use the word fight loosely. BTW UFCMania guys, maybe you should change the headline on this post to “Who does Tim Sylvia really want to hold against the fence for 15 minutes next while the viewers watch in misery.”
I personally hope he fights Kongo next, because there is no way that will be a title fight so it will only be 15 minutes of terrible boredom whereas a fight against Big Nog will be 25 minutes of pure boredom.
sylvia isnt my favorite fighter but i though he did a good job against vera. i thought he really opened it up at the end when vera’s head was bouncing around like a windchime. he fights a smart gameplan for him, but anyways . . .
i really dont understand why he’s calling out cheick (cheich) kongo, and why big nog would automatically get a title shot after such a so so performance against heath herring. big nog should have to fight kongo even if everyone thinks its a gimmie. so where the f^ck is aa and an interesting hw division. im more pumped to watch brock than the top 10 fighters. i wonder how gonzaga is healing and when he will be ready to fight.
After the bullshit that i saw on the weekend i am inclined to think a few thoughts…
1) Sylvia’s high kick win over Telligman was lucky to connect and only did because of how late into the fight it was and how shitty Telligman is.
2) Sylvia’s knockout of Arlovsky was a lucky punch considering he hasn’t even dazed anyone since then. Not Monson, Not Couture, Not Vera, Not Arlovski in the rematch. Not even wobbled them.
3) Dana should not renew his contract and take back half the $200,000 he gave Sylvia for putting on a terrible fight. Does anyone remember in the Monson fight when the ref had to take them aside and tell them to pick up the pace and fight?
4) who cares who he fights next as long as he loses. Sylvia is shit nd so are all 12 of his fans if they think he is a good fighter

Haha, I agree with most of you guys… good call, Granted Tim is big, tough and seems to have a good game plan to win fights… but 0 excitement. That fight against monson where the ref stopped them cause they wern’t doing anything made me feel embarrassed, and I wasn’t even there. That has to stop. Lets see some other heavyweights go at it, Kongo, Arlovski, lesnar. And good call from Bennie… Fighters like forrest and liddel have that excitement factor and give 100 percent, even if they get caught and lose the odd one still is exciting as hell.

Did you guys listen to the interview before hand with Dana White Talking more about Couture. He says at the interview he will smash Fedor. Fedor is overhyped and has not fought anyone real fighters in 2 and a half years and how Couture had just basically walked through 2 of the tougher HW right now. That was interesting and makes me want this fight to happen all the more. It reminds me of the whole 2 toughest kids in school thing. We’re all just frustrated because we paid 40 bucks to watch 6 boring fights (minus the SpiderSilva-AceFranklin fight), while the 3 fights they didn’t show were Okami-McDonald, Burkman-Petz, and fight of the night Grice-Black. Meanwhile, we were watching Gurgel get pummelled by a new comer, Jensen get submitted by another new comer and Bonnar fight a terrible Ravishing Red, a former training partner that he already told everybody he owned. Thanks UFC and Dana White for flushing everybody’s 40 bucks down the toilet, so you guys can try and sell the other 3 competitive matchups for $3.99 on UFC in demand. Tim’s fight was boring, but only because Vera broke his hand, got intimidated by Tim’s size, or a combination of the two. We’re all just fooling ourselves if we think Vera doesn’t have the speed to circle away from Tim hugging him up against the cage. It takes to to tango. Look what Couture did to Tim with his aggressive style.

Hmmm, so because I dislike Tim and think his fighting is of an average caliber you think I need to grow up and I’m highschoolish?
