The field of 18 fighters for UFC 77: “Hostile Territory” have all weighed-in for the pay-per-view (PPV) event tomorrow night from the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Welterweight Josh Burkman was the only one to not make weight initially, shedding every layer of clothing he had to try and make the 170-pound limit. He came in at 171.5 and eventually made weight. He is now good to go.
Other than that it was a rather uneventful event. However, it seems as though the lightweight fight between hometown product Jorge Gurgel and his opponent, Alvin Robinson, have been bumped up to the main card.
That guarantees at least five televised fights. The middleweight showdown between Yushin Okami and Jason MacDonald is not among them, however.
Here are the official results:
185 lbs.: Anderson Silva (184.5) vs. Rich Franklin (184)
Hvywt.: Tim Sylvia (260.5) vs. Brandon Vera (225.5)
205 lbs.: Stephan Bonnar (204) vs. Eric Schafer (203)
185 lbs.: Kalib Starnes (186) vs. Alan Belcher (186)
155 lbs.: Jorge Gurgel (155) vs. Alvin Robinson (155.5)
185 lbs.: Jason MacDonald (184.5) vs. Yushin Okami (186)
185 lbs.: Ryan Jensen (185.5) vs. Demian Maia (185)
170 lbs.: Josh Burkman (171) vs. Forrest Petz (170)
155 lbs.: Jason Black (156) vs. Matt Grice (155)
The televised portion of the pay-per-view (PPV) event begins Saturday, October 20, at 10 p.m. ET. We will provide LIVE blow-by-blow, round-by-round coverage of the main card action at this time.
UFC 77 quick results, however, will begin to flow earlier than that here at UFCmania.com at about 8:30 p.m. ET with the prelim fights.
It’s going to be a killer night — see you all then!

I’m pumped. Solid card. I hope everyone makes weight.
awesome mania! thanks for the link!
Burkman didn;t make weight yet. 1 hour to lose 1/2 pound
I thought TIM would be 250 for this fight so he will be faster? He’s 260 at weigh ins and we won’t know tomorrow…he’ll probably gain 10lbs more LOL!!!
Wow, Vera didnt look that small compared to Sylvia. Maybe he wont have problems with his size.
Did Tim lose some weight? I thought he normally had to cut to make the 265 limit. And Rich looks good, further justifying my man-crush on him.
lol franklins telling his cinci fans not to boo the man whose gona whope his ass….AGAINNnnnnn loll…but damn silva is a nice guy but one intense m’fucker…bonnar thing was jks too ahaha

Get to work, Arianny!
Yeah, thanks for the link Mania! I can’t wait!
Wow, Vera didnt look that small compared to Sylvia. Maybe he wont have problems with his size.
Yeah, Tim did not look 6″ taller than Vera. Should be a good fight.
Wow, Vera didnt look that small compared to Sylvia. Maybe he wont have problems with his size.
They looked very close in height, and it looks like ol’ Timmy did drop a few lb’s for this fight.
Since when was Gurgel/Robinson on the main card? Sure Gurgel is from Cincy but still…
And for one last time, why is Okami/MacDonald on the undercard, ESPECIALLY when Starnes/Belcher is on the main card. I mean, its quite obvious which fight has more impact on the MW division.
Did Franklin look bigger than he did against Okami?
one nudge from behind and silva and franklin would have kissed.
yeah tim didn’t look that tall vs vera…camera angle? but no denying the reach advantage once in the octagon I’m sure… I hope there’s a lot of KTFO

Totally agree. Very strange. They appeared to be almost even in terms of height.
franklin looks much leaner, he’s obviously always in top shape but has not had that lean definition. must have gone nuts in the gym with the hope to take silva into the late rounds…
sh!t i missed the weigh ins, can anyone comment on if frankln looked nervous or is he cool and ready for battle.
Sylvia didn’t look too good.
Always get more excited for the fights after watching the weigh ins.
Brandon Vera is definetly breaking sylvia
it was said by savage vera aint really any smaller.
as for my predictions since this fight was announced
vera is knees and head kicks into the face of tim till he’s out
1st rd KO fastest fight of the night.
franklin looks good and ready but i still feel a repeat of the first fight.
macdonald/bonnar/burkman/black-look excellent and winning
franklin looked calm and not nervous

Coudln’t get a look directly into his eyes, but he appeared to be cool and calm, even with Anderson’s nose 1 cm from his.
I am really looking forward to this PPV. Oops, I mean, I am really looking forward to two fights this weekend and December’s event. They screwed the east coast and 78.
why do they not give the option of buying the PPV for $39.99 for the televised fights (5 fights) or paying 49.99 or something and getting to see every fight???
wouldnt that be smart so that the hardcore fans can watch all the fights…i know we can find them on the internet, but still it better watching on TV.
Any thoughts? or anyone know why they don’t do it?
This looks like a huge show of no-faith to Okami–they’re telling him to be more exciting or he’s going to be stuck on undercards whenever possible.
Of course, I think he’s going to be more exciting from now on, since the tactics that are so boring basically cost him the fight against Franklin.
I MISSED THE LIVE WEIGH-INS
Does Anyone Know Where I Can Watch The Weigh-Ins ??
Sour Diesel - Go to UFC’s site, and follow the links. They should have it up by now. Right side, gray link just below the UFC 77 graphic.
Hey Mania, is BJ PENN a “LOCK” to fight at UFC 79?
oh yeah Sylvia came in at 260.5 too, didn’t he say he wanted to be 250lbs to be faster? Any thoughts on how his weight will come into play? I think he looked better vs AA the 2nd/3rd fight I think…
Silvia looks very deadly as always.
MMACrossfire Thanks for the advise .. I checked Its not up yet.
The Video They Put Up Is Alwayz Edited And Cut Down To Less Than Half Of The What Was Shown Live.
It Takes Them Hours to Get The Video Up On The Site Too. They Should Just Let You Be Able To Watch The Live Part Anytime.
I dont like waitin hours just to get some dumbed down version.
Weigh in is usaully at 6 pm eastern NOT 4 pm eastern(when everyone is at work)
man, Rich is ripped…… he’ll look great in the casket.
Just a joke, not meant to offend.

Seems like a very good idea to me. most people will be getting the ppv anyway, why not make a couple extra $$$’s?
Also… is Franklins funeral gonna be on PPV?
Odd that sylvia and vera looked so close in size. had to be a camera angle… isn’t vera around the same height as randy?
I thought that when the talk started about the JMac/Okami fight not being televised was a joke. I keep reading it so I’m starting to think that you guys are serious….You’re not serious, are you?!?!?!
Sad but true. The main card will be without the international talent of Okami/Macdonald.
I’d rather see the Okami/Macdonald fight over Starnes/Belcher. Why would they put two guys on the main card that lost to Kendall Grove OVER two guys that lost to Rich Franklin is beyond me.
By the by, one of the reasons they may not have placed Okami on the main card is that main card fighters receive a bonus that undercard fighters don’t and this is based off their contract; Vi sa Vi, The Starnes-Velcher fight costs the UFC less as a main card fight then, Okami-McDonald. If there is one thing that has been proven about the UFC, it is that they don’t like letting go of their money
Nice to see that Silva worked out his Visa problem anyway
I am glad you guys got the memo about Gurgel/Robinson beingpromoted to the main event, I sent that to Sunshine about 2 hours ago.
Guys this thing was incredible, the crowd went insane when Rich came out. I will have more later.
!!!

of course………he’s not in the ring looking at the man who resurfaced his face the first time about 7 months ago……

That really does sound like an excellent idea! Especially considering that there are typically 4-5 fights shown on the PPV. That leaves either 4 or 5 fights that aren’t televised (there are 9 fights total per event). The UFC would make out terrific. Just think about it, the undercard fights are $2 each to watch on demand. Having us pay and extra $10 up front is the same amount of $ as ordering all 5 fights on demand. I don’t know about you guys, but I have NEVER ordered every udercard fight from an event on demand. However, I would gladly pay the extra $10 to watch the undercard live on tv.

3 reasons.
1) The undercard is a treat for the people that go to the live show. This way they get something unique that you can’t get on the PPV.
2) They like to put the unaired undercard fights for free on their Unleashed and Wired shows to keep those shows fresh. For example, this week I saw Nickels/Bonnar on Unleashed, it was an unaired prelim from 73.
3) They’d have to double the time slotted for the event for only $10 more, which only some of the fans are going to get. Basically a pain in the ass, and most likely completely not worth it.

From Jason McDonald:
“As far as the decision to not be on the main card, the UFC has told me that it has nothing to do with me. It has to do with the fact that Okami is a boring fighter. They know I’ll try to put on an exciting fight. In fact, as I left the hotel on Thursday, I ran into Joe Silva, the matchmaker for the UFC, and he asked to talk to me to express that again and apologized in advance to me.”
Your reason makes it sound like you’re a “The UFC is ripping off the fighters” whiner and conspiracy theorist. I don’t think the UFC cares about the bonuses enough to bump a fight off the main card for it. This is the same company that recently increased the bonus earned for fight of the night, sub of the night, and KO of the night.
It’s not on the main card because Okami is boring. He had a ME fight and the first two rounds completely sucked because of Okami’s fighting style.

Yeh NC thanks for the update homey I passed it on to Mania, ill look foward to working with ya tomorrow im siked up for this card big time. The crowd should be off the charts. I think its underrated how much a great crowd can contribute to the atmosphere and overall caliber of fights. Tomorrow is gunna be WILD.

Unsung heroes, DrubySunshine and Mr. NC-17. Thanks guys. These are two readers helping out for UFC 77 this weekend. True fans. Druby does it every PPV and the local man on the scene, Mr. NC-17, will help us out live inside from the US Bank Arena tomorrow night. Thanks a lot fellas, wish there was more we could do. Some day.
hey i was at the weigh ins live and one thing that wasnt mentioned was that at the opening when rogan was announced, he came from behind the curtains and tripped pretty bad running up the stairs. haha no damage done but it was pretty funny to see. total fun so far, met some fighters and ring girls and got some stuff and cant wait til tomorrow
Hey Mania, is BJ PENN a “LOCK” to fight at UFC 79?
NO. He might fight in January/SuperBowl weekend. The Couture thing mixed things up quite a bit.

They must have taken a couple of disks out of Timmy’s back, lol.
Tim Sylvia doesn’t look as tall as he is because he has terrible posture.

No offence taken. I have been thinking more and more that Rich is going to win. After seeing how seriously he has taken his training, I am going to say Rich is going to win. Being that ripped and weighing the same , means more strength and less dead weight (fat) slowing you down.It take a great deal of desire to get that ripped ,so Rich must be very, very hungry for redemption. I’m not much of a fan of Rich’s ,but I see him winning.

They wouldn’t have to double the time slot if they would do away with the hollywood comercial bullshit. When I’m paying for UFC I don’t give a shit about the latest movie coming out. That is the whole point of ppv, no fucken commercials.
i just watched the weigh ins. joe rogan eating it was awsome. you guys are right, rich looked good and ready to execute. im looking forward to a good fight. it could go either way . . .
also vera looked taller cause he had his sandles on and tim was barefoot. although, i thought tim was about to eat it a few times just taking his pants on and off.
tomorrow baby!!
Mania, you know it is no problem, anything you need, just hoot and holler. Sunshine, I am glad to be spreading the word to you so you can deliever the results to everbody!
My friend and I was talking to Dana White after the Q and A session (which you will get a kick out of when you read my article Mania) and we asked him when Jorge Gurgel was going to be on a main card fight, and he goes, just wait you might be surprised.
Let alone, Joe Rogan says “now on the Main Card” and Jason MacDonald and Yushin Okami was right before Joe said that, Jorge Gurgel and Alvin Robinson came out.
Man, I have so much to share, this is going to make a great read for you guys after it is all said and done.
its sooooo weird that okami/mcdonald isn’t one of the 5 main card fights, i mean cmon, jorge gurgel??? i hope jorge gurgel gets ktfo in front of his home crowd in 15 seconds so we’ll all have time to see the fight we really want to see, i mean okami/mcdonald is the third best fight on this card for sure and an argument could be made its the best fight on this card, its just crazy!!!
i mean, i know gurgel is from cincy and he’s fighting in front of his home crowd, but what does that have to do with ppv??? his hometown fans will get to see him fight in person…none of the rest of the world gives a damn about him…
Why is Okami vs McDonald on the undercard??? Big mistake.
i mean, i know gurgel is from cincy and he’s fighting in front of his home crowd, but what does that have to do with ppv??? his hometown fans will get to see him fight in person…none of the rest of the world gives a damn about him…
His last fight, won Fight of the Night. Obviously somebody gives a damn outside of Cincinnati.
how can starnes and belcher, two guys who both lost to yushin okami and kendall grove be on the main card and jason macdonald and yushin okami arent.
as rory singer says; “its its ahbsolutely ridiculous”

I’ve been thinking that Rich needs to spend less time on weight machines and work more with free weights. I’m no expert, bu isn’t free weight training is more beneficial for MMA than using machines?
Vera is a Carni and was wearing Stilts.

people keep saying vera is small, but in person he is huge, he is going to smash timmy, predict it will be the quickest fight of the night, vera is a monster, people are going to be shocked as hell, when they find out how good he is, and it will be a foregone conclusion, that he will smash big nog, and be the HW champion, he is the future of mma, there is not going to be anyone, that is going to beat him, or go the distance with him, for at least the next five years, after he is HW champ, he has stated he is coming for the LHW crown, he plans on holding both, dont know who watched the spike tv, ufc 77 countdown, but when he was in big bear with rampage, juanito, rampages trainer, clearly stated quote: MARK MY WORDS VERA WILL BE HW CHAMPION, he was just drooling, at how good vera is, and when his trainer, rob kaman, the gratest kickboxer, of all time, and muay thai legend, says he is impressed, that is saying something, for all you that want to make guaranteed money, bet the house on vera, it is incredible his power, and speed, he was just abusing rampage during his sparring, with that hand speed, and incredible, powerful kicks, which are lightning fast
MY FAVE FIGHTER! I BELEIVE HE COULD BEAT ANYONE WHEN IN THE BEST SHAPE OF HIS LIFE. SORRY BRANDON.YOUVE GOT NO CHANCE.
I will never pay to see another Tim Sylvia fight again. I can’t even believe he earned a 29-27 round from one of the judges. All he did was push Vera against the fence. Gone are the days of Tim kicking or punching the crap out of people. I am not saying that Vera won the fight but you can’t really tell me Sylvia did anything and that you actually enjoyed watching that crap. I would much rather pay to see Randy defend the heavyweight belt then Tim do nothing for three rounds. What a joke! If the UFC is backing Tim and that kind of fighting style, no wonder they have to run commercials during a pay-per-view event. No one will watch that crap. Kudos to Spider…Franklin needs to hang up the gloves.
