ufc UK divisionUFC 80 will kick-off the New Year at the 11,000-seat Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England, on January 19 or 26, 2008, according to a FightNetwork.com report.

Welterweights Marcus Davis and Jess Liaudin are in negotiations to scrap on the nine-fight UK card. Both fighters appeared in recent European UFC events, winning their respective matches.

Davis stopped Jason Tan (knockout) at UFC 72: “Victory” in Belfast, Ireland, back in June, as well as Paul Taylor (submission) at UFC 75: “Champion vs. Champion” last month.

The “Joker” submitted Dennis Siver (armbar) at UFC 70: “Nations Collide” in April and beat down Anthony Torres at UFC 75 via first round technical knockout.

British fighter Terry Etim is also rumored to be on the card against Octagon newcomer Per Eklund.

Of course, the most popular UFC fighter to come out of England, Michael Bisping, will more than likely not be in action that evening. The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season three light heavyweight winner is headlining UFC 78: “Validation” against Rashad Evans next month on November 17 in Newark, N.J.

There’s no indication at this time whether or not the event will be broadcast on SpikeTV via tape delay or offered as a pay-per-view (PPV) event.

Stay tuned for more details about UFC 80.

I hope its free again, theres nothing better then getting drunk at home and watching the fights, i’m not 21 so I can’t drink at the bar so I always have to slam some beers before I go into the bars.

I hope it’s free too, it’s a good way for the organization to show some appreciation to the fans.

Looks like Bisping won’t be ready to fight on this one. Hopefully Terry Etim can fight in his homeland!

Does anyone know if they air any of the UK-UFC fights here in the states? Perhaps through an international channel?

If they can’t find an Englishman to put on the card, they could put Evan Tanner on, since he could at least drink like an Englishman.

i think it will be free with dec 29 and feb super bowl dana would not dream of 3 40 buck pay per view in a spam of a little over a month. avg watcher won’t buy all 3. i heard newcastle on the 19th not 26th. i wish that the euro fighters would fight in america and not just europe like davis
lets hope it’s a freebie, i know there won’t be a title involved but i hope he has a couple good main cards

putting the shows on for free is not cheap for the ufc and many of them result in a loss of money for the company but i think in the long wrong it will benefit the company by gaining new fans who will then buy future ppv shows. I wouldnt mind seeing cro cop on this card maybe in a rematch with gabe gonzaga to see if he can avenge a previous loss and also put himself back in the heavyweight title picture.

I don’t care if it isn’t cheap for the UFC they are making a lot of money and they still can’t pay their fighters what they deserve. I knew this before the situation with Randy. If you have heard any interviews with Frank Shamrock he says that Dana doesn’t pay the fighters that good. I think Dana White should give fighters what they deserve because soon everyone are going to go to whoever pays them the most and it might not be the UFC.

i like marcus davis, and and don’t get me wrong i think liaudin is decent, but shouldn’t davis be fighting somebody a little better by now? i want to see him fight luke cummo, i think that would be a sick fight…and why is davis always fighting on the cards over seas? anyway, i hope this is a free show on spike, i don’t mind the tape delay, i just can’t stand the commercials, but i guess its better than paying 40 bucks…also its gonna be almost weird to not have bisping on a card in england…i hope they can get arlovski’s contract worked out by then and get him in there against kongo or somebody too…seems like a good card for forrest and rampage to fight too, or rampage vs. somebody…

or how about arlovski vs. cro cop, that sounds better to me than kongo, but that’ll probably never happen…

come to canada. mma is crazy in alberta, quebec and the whole country. both places would sell out easily. gsp wouldn’t even have to be on either card.

It’s great to hear that there is another card in England, but what about one card in Canada??? C’mon man. We’ve heard about it for so long, but it’s yet to happen. Dana’s been talking about it for over a year, and in that time there has been multiple UK cards, but nothing for Canada. Plus, it would be a real short plane trip to get here.

All I ask for (along with many fellow Canadian MMA fans I’m sure):

Bring the GSP vs. the winner of Hughes/Serra title match to Canada. I don’t think that is asking for too much.

On that note, we really got to get MMA legalized in Ontario as well. Imagine a card at the Air Canada Centre.

Enough already with the England events. We got the point. The UFC wants to spread to the UK. Before we know it, only like half the events will take place in the US. Prior the the british invasion, and all of these California shows, it was basically 3-4 events in Las Vegas then 1 event somewhere else in the US. They wait two years before coming back to the East Coast, yet this will be the 3rd event in England in what, 7 months? Plus the lackluster Ireland show… I hate the free ones with all of the commercials. You don’t get to see the fighters in thier corner between rounds. We already sit thru enough commercial when we pay $40 for PPV.

I agree that Marcus Davis has proved himself to be more than ready for a step up in competition. I would disagree however, that Luke Cummo fits that bill. Marcus is ready to fight someone ranked in the Top 10 and fight on the main card. A fight against Luke would sattisfy neither of those. Unless it was an UFN event, then it would make the main card. Marcus is ready for a step up in competition. It’s like they are giving him the Roger Huerta treatment, but for no reason.

Marcus Davis is the man. I’m looking forward to him fighting some top 10 fighters. He’s a tough dude that can take a shot. I see him having a great year in 2008 and possibly being a title contender.
