Super late post, but someone just pointed this interview out to me. Nick has been one of my favorite fighters for a long time, but he shouldn't be calling out guys in the UFC when he just signed a a contract with EliteXC. If he really wants to fight those guys, he had his opportunity. As far as him calling out Fitch...what a joke. He just got handled by 160lb KJ Noons (yeah...Who?) - he doesn't want any part of Fitch, GSP or Hughes!

#1) Diego did NOT "handle" Diaz. That was an incredibly close fight that could have gone either way. Some buddies of mine who are partial to Diego argue it whenever it comes up & even they concede that it was a razor thin decision.
#2) Diaz cleanly KO'd Robbie Lawler so it's pointless for anyone to question his punching power. What's gotten you & many other's confused about it is that those are not power shots that he's throwing. He's not purposefully looking for a KO, just "peppering" to confuse his opponent, keep them on the defensive & open up a clear opportunity to end the fight. To claim that he "hits like a mosquito" is completely false, did you not see how busted up Aina's face was? KO power & punching power can be be 2 different things at times.
#3) Royce Gracie, as beloved as he is, is not a well-round MMA fighter. Nor is he an exceptional athlete. He's a scrappy guy with ubelieveable BJJ. Diaz has a very real chance against ANY opponent & would obviously fare well against Hughes.
#4) Only ONE of Diaz's losses was via TKO. All others were decision losses. If he was able to hold his own against Gomi who has unbelieveable KO power in both hands then although possible, It's highly unlikely that Diaz would lose via GnP to anyone.
You tell em Machine!!!

Plus the only reason Nick has all those decision losses in the UFC is because the UFC judges still score fights like boxing fights, and don't truely take ground work into consideration.
Then after taking is best countinued to get the best of the stand up. Hughes does not have heavier hands then gomi, he has 1 knock out in the UFC against Carlos Newton like 3 years ago.
Aww No. And the 'newbie-ness' shows thru. Hughes KO'd Newton, but not with his hands. He was in a triangle choke, about to be suffocated, and in a last ditch effort, he powerbombed Carlos Newton knocking him unconsious. Hughes wasn't looking too good himself at the time either.
Personally, that Newton vs Hughes fight is one of the most controversial ending ever. It should have been ruled a draw IMHO. Both Carlos was Unconcious & so was Hughes. Hughes didnt even know the fight was over & didnt realize he had even won. I even have a hard time believing that Hughes slammed Newton on purpose. I honestly believe Matt just passed out & newton got KO'd merely by default.

Oh & in my explanation about Diaz's peppering punches, I forgot to add that he's scoring hella points for accurate striking.

For the record, Diaz is no MMA behemoth but he's definately a contender & no walk in the park for any fighter.

Violent Mike is right when he says that a couple of Nicks losses came from improper scoring. Despite Sanchez winning by "unanimous decision", anyone familiar with the scoring system can clearly see how close that fight was. The "rolling" in that match was superb as well. It gave me a true appreciation for the technical, subtle & intricate details of the ground game.
He's lucky he isn't in the UFC, talking about my guy Pierre like that would get him broken in 2.
That's exactly what everybody thought Gomi would do to Diaz, and look what happened? Nick can take a tremendous amount of punishment. He has never been knocked out. His first loss came against Jeremy Jackson by TKO, and that is the time Nick has ever been finished. The fight was just after he turned 19 years old. Since then, he defeated Jeremy twice. Do I think that Diaz would beat GSP 9 out of 10 times, no way. If they fought, do I think that Diaz has a chance at winning, of course.
I am thinking Dana may swear at the worst possible times. He is the type of person I could picture cursing in shurch whilr receiving communion....
LOL, very funny.
Nick Diaz is the real deal, no tatoos no piercings Doesnt care what people think about him and he lays it on the line and gives everything he has.
He is a sort of role model in a way too, His training is 100% hard work no steroids no pills and shakes. Hes always talking about how important it is to eat healthy organic unprocessed foods. He Participates in triathelons and is a great athlete.
But he smokes pot so the media gives him a bad rap. Who cares thats his own business
One of the most exciting fighters in the game
Very well said Mohamet. I agree. Nick also seems to be the type of person that is always there for his friends too. I love hearing all this positive talk about Nick!
lol some funny shit... he needs to come toke sum bc buds wit me, that would heal em up better then cali buds
ooooooooooohhh,, I don't know about that one. Medical is all over Cali, and did you ever hear of this little area in California, Humboldt County?
great interview man, keep ones like this coming. the best part about it is getting to know more about who the fighters are outside the ring. it gives people more of a reason to support them and get behind them. nick diaz...i used to hate him but now he's right up there with some of my favorites.
JP, the UFC, or someone in the UFC has always had a problem with Nick. That is why the UFC ALWAYS protrayed him as the bad guy. If they let the casual UFC viewer see the real Nick Diaz, he would have had a lot more fans. Its the real fans that know more about the fighters than what the UFC 'wants us to know'.
