FightNetwork.com has confirmed recent speculation that a welterweight bout between Roan Carneiro (11-6) and Tony DeSouza (10-3) is in the works for UFC 79 on December 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Here’s a snip from DeSouza:
“My last fight made me very hungry to get back in the game. I am looking forward to my return.”
The 33-year-old Desouza is a UFC veteran who made his Octagon debut back in 2001, compiling a respectable record along the way (3-2). He is a Brazilian jiu-jistu wiz who now trains with BJ Penn in Hilo, Hawaii (he was also Penn’s assistant grappling coach on season five of The Ultimate Fighter).
DeSouza is looking for redemption after being on the wrong end of a Thiago Alves beatdown at UFC 66 in December 2006.
Carneiro — a Brazilian Top Team member who recently relocated to Atlanta — is also very skilled on the ground. “Jucao” has one win inside the Octagon against Rich Clementi (unanimous decision) at UFC Fight Night 9 in April and one loss (rear naked choke) to Jon Fitch two months later at UFC Fight Night 10.

Note: John Hackleman — the trainer for former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell — indicated once again in an interview with FightHype.com that the “Iceman” will more than likely finally clash with Wanderlei Silva on the New Year’s Eve weekend card.

Desouza is one boring ass fighter to watch - not interested.
Hope the Iceman gives the axe murderer a first round KO or a very brutal beating - this will be up there in the top 3 greatest fights ever

desouza got his ass kicked by alves, it’s been a long time since he last fought, prelim of course, but i think jucao will beat him. heard about lidell fighting, it will be the fight of the year for me, i know the ice man will come out with fury and knock out silva in the 1st to send a message.
Chuck vs Wandi in UFC 79 would for sure make it a huge event..with the WW belt on the line..add Chuck vs Wandi..and this fight big..both are coming off of back to back losses..
intresting to me is Wandi beat Rampage 2X..and Rampage beat Chuck 2x..Henderson is spit with Wandi even though Henderson has a KO over him.. Who wins this fight goes straight up back to the top..who loses..falls even further down the barrell.

If chuck and silva fight… it would suck to have a quick end. i’d like to see it go into the second round at least. imagine waiting all this time for this fight and then it ending in 37 seconds.

wow, i really like this fight, i hope we get to see it…i’ve been wanting to see desouza fight again ever since tuf 5 and roan is a great match up against him for the fans…should be a good one…
Desouza is the original ‘Caveman’ from season 5 of Ultimate Fighter… remember when that dweeb ‘Noel’ was teasing him, something about a “Missing Chromosome”.. and Desouza beat the crap out of him?

I think Desouza is gonna beat Roan ”Jucao” Carneiro, he’s better on the ground and he has been training reallu hard with BJ Penn, you can watch some of his videos and you realize that he is a better mma fighter. Tony’s nickname is the beggar, he was nicknamed like that by the brazilian MMA fight when he fought the brazilian champion, no one thought he wwas gonna win but he beat him, a great fight, and the brazilian crowd start shouting: ”Mendigooo, Mendigoo” wich means beggar, because he fought with some old shorts and with a long beard. I admit his last fights has been boring but he really wants to fight in the UFC again, and he hasn’t been without fighting, he has fought a couple of fights in Peru with some local MMA fighters. I’m really looking forward to this match.
