I want to see Matt train with Muslims. And then I want the Muslims to try to coerce him into reading the Koran. And then I want them to try to peer-pressure him into praying towards Mecca. Perhaps then he would understand why his preaching has no place on the show, and how uncomfortable it can be to be an outsider, and to feel estranged because of someone pushing their faith.
I would love to see that!
Don't blow this out of proportion - why is it acceptable to have a pop at Christians but not Muslims!!!!

PS: I am not a Bible Basher, just want a fair break for all

they are both douchebags but hughes takes the almighty douche cake. at least serra has a soul. since the first time i ever saw hughes back in ufc 30 something ive always said i cant believe he has a fan base, something i say about many fighters (tito, sylvia, basically anyone from militech). but anyways jesse you are a damn entertaining writer. you should write overviews of every ufc event not just the episodes.

The more I see Matt Hughes on television, the more I grow to dislike him. Matt Serra can be a loudmouth, it's true, but Hughes' passive-aggressive style of smug overconfidence just disgusts me. It's almost as if he's trying to be humble but failing miserably.

The incident with the Bibles in this week's episode is a perfect example. He uses he story to try to demonstrate to everyone how helpful and humble he is, because he wants the fighters to compare him to the queen--and yet, for some reason, people compare him to God, to Xerxes. Hughes should get it through his head that he is not coming off as humble or Christ-like. A humble person does not BRAG about how humble they are, as Hughes does when he proclaims that he is the queen of the story. And all this in spite of the fact that even his own team pegs him as the two most overconfident, self-centered, and selfish characters of the Bible. (And let's face it, Matt Hughes IS most comparable with God--because God too likes to help people, but he demands recognition and worship for it like a pompous little twit.)

Also, the fact that Hughes tries to imply that participation is voluntary, and then tracks down Mac and tries to get him to join in even when he is obviously not interested, just goes to show how "humble" he really is. He's a smug, self-centered D-bag, in my book. And I really hope he and his team lose, even though he will probably just be able to take solace in the book of Job since the moral of Esther didn't work out so well.

I also found it funny that Serra objected to Hughes' Bible-study because some of the men might be Jewish. Apparently he isn't aware that the book of Esther is in the Old Testament, part of the Jewish canon, as well. I am happy that the lone atheist, though, did not have the misfortune of being on Hughes' team. Imagine if he felt as if he had to pray with the rest of the team. That can be an intensely uncomfortable situation. And I think it is arrogant on Matt's part to just assume that everyone will fall in line with it. He was wrong with Mac. And he could have been a lot more wrong if he had the atheist on his team.

I want to see Matt train with Muslims. And then I want the Muslims to try to coerce him into reading the Koran. And then I want them to try to peer-pressure him into praying towards Mecca. And if Serra can't beat Hughes down, at least I know GSP will.
I think Serra and maybe Hughes are smarter then we think.

Let us realize that the Hughes Serra fight will probably have a good size ppv audience. However, it will probably be even bigger if there is real animosity between the two fighters. (Think Ortiz Shamrock) Now, since the top fighters (I assume) get a percentage of the ppv sales and those sales can be increased by telling the world how much of a jerk your opponent is, this is a pretty clear case.

I'm not doubting the fact that Serra dislikes Hughes and vice versa, just questioning the intensity with which it is done.
I don't think the fighters get a % of PPV.
did anybody hear matt hughes say he was gonna retire after 3 fights...
Yes he did. I'm surprised that it hasn't been discussed at all. We know his first of those fights is against Serra. If he wins the belt, he'll then fight GSP in thier rubber match. If somehow Hughes wins, he should fight BJ in a rubber match. Who better for Matt to fight in the final fight of his career?

If Hughes loses to Serra, or wins and then loses to GSP, AND Franklin is not champ, look for Hughes to move up to MW to fight Anderson Silva. He would then finish out his career at MW. Hughes has always been a big WW. Not tall, but muscular. It's surprising that at his age he is still cutting that weight. I wonder what weight he walks around at?
