can of jardines

Hindsight is 20/20.

This popped up on the Underground forum prior to the UFC 76: “Knockout” main event between former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell and Keith Jardine on September 22.

“The Dean of Mean” scored a three-round split-decision upset over the future Hall of Famer, demonstrating that anything can and often does happen in mixed martial arts.

Congrats, Keith, for proving all the doubters wrong (myself included).

It’s impossible to tell now, but I wonder how many people picked Jardine to win. The underdogs are rising to the challenge. Tell you what, I was wrong as hell. Good thing i didn’t drop money, cuz I almost did.

Not polishing nails, but I always though Jardine was a good fighter. But Id never count him out…
Only thing he needs is a lil more drive to finish off a fighter. Lots of his fights go to decision, where he has lost a few (like his almost domination over Bonnar.) Guy is still developing and can end up being one of the better LHWs out there training with Rashad and GSP..

that pic is JOKES..LOL,
but whats funnier is that JARDINE won, and the guy who made this pic did it all for nothing, and now we get to make fun of his BOLD predictions and wasted time.
never count anyone out in this sport!! especially in the year of the upsets,,..or like I call it the year “of the UNDERDOGS’
NEVER count out anyone,,unless they are facing VERA..cause the truth HURTS..

“Sardine” was always the first word that came to my mind when trying to come up with a new nickname for The Dean of Mean.

The Queen of Sardines Keith Jardine was always my favorite. What can you guys come up with?

Other words that rhyme with Jardine:
scream
canteen
Ovaltein

At mmaplayground out of the 38 members of our fight camp only 1 person chose Jardine, which equals .026%.

I chose Liddell, but was hoping for Jardine to win, as another loss in a row would have put his UFC career in jeopardy, in my view.

After first watching this fight I thought Jardine won w/o question. A second viewing of the bout without audio made me realize that Liddell didn’t loose as decisively as I had earlier thought. Aside from the 2nd rd KD. I think Liddell’s consistent attrition to Jardine’s head would have won out if the bout went to round 4 and 5.

initially i wanted Jardine to win. But then i heard some comments that he made about Houston Alexander. “He was just lucky. 99 out 100 times i’d beat him.” blah blah blah. Give credit where it is due. Alexander pumped you. Admit it. He wasn’t lucky. He was a better prepared better trained fighter that night and i’d bet anyone on this site $1000 that he’d pump Jardine again. After i heard those comments i changed my pick to Chuck eventhough i neither like chuck or his one dimensional style, but atleast chuck took his loss to Rampage like a man.

For one of the Few times I actually agree with you.

It is a completely fair match-up no matter what, because someone like a Wayne Weems can stpe into the octagon and possibly knock out Sean Sherk by a lucky punch.

Its the way MMA works.

Jardine is no joke, I did not doubt him beating Chuck but I honestly thought Chuck was going to win. But we saw no fire out of Chuck and we saw a side of Jardine that nobody has seen.

Jardine is a solid fighter, but is he a championship fighter?

I dunno after that Chuck Liddell fight, I say yes.

I think Henderson is going to be a force at LHW or any div he decides to fight at.

And him staying in LHW helps the UFC put things in order. . .

How long before Jardine is ready to go again atleast two Months?

Wandi vs (November) Houston, Machida,
Hendo vs (November) Houston, Machida.
or Hendo vs (December) Jardine.
Forrest vs (January) Rampage. (Give us the title fight!)
Lidell vs Rua (January).

Winners of Nov and Dec could fight in Febuary or March.

This just keeps things moving along and Hendo adds to Mix.
If Tito or Rashad look impressive (hard to believe) they can get in there too. The UFC needs give up on Bisping - Hamill rematch, or atleast not wait for it. Take the healthy fighter and throw him against winner of Tito - Rashad or even Babalu would be a good match for them.

Just keeps things happening!!

I like Hendo being in the Mix.
I think Hendo stays top 3 in LHW for some time, He is a hard guy to beat!!!

I don’t know what’s up with Chuck but he will probably be alloted 3 or more losses before the UFC cuts him due to the fact that he was the champ for soo long. Same as if Matt Hughes faced a couple of losses. You can just never count out guys like that!!

I too, have watched this fight again…over and over. However, with or without sound, I come up 29-28 Jardine. Chuck won the 1st, Jardine the 2nd and 3rd. The split comes from one of the judges giving Chuck the 3rd. I’m not sure how when you see all the left hooks Jardine landed. Low right kick, left hook to the head over and over. Plus, with the CSAC 10 point must system, the 2nd could have been 10-8.

I went for the upset and predicted Jardine would beat Chuck. I am glad he won the way he did as it showed there was no luck involved. I judged him on the Forrest fight and not on the Houston fight. I definately thought the leg kicks would be a factor and always thought he was underrated as a striker. Chucks lack of fighting pure strikers over the years and his one punch counter punching style also came into it, and I think if they fought again Jardine would probably pull it off again. If you was to put Jardine up against Tito and his style of fighting, I would not be as confident about a Jardine victory as once Tito put him down, all Jardines best weapons would be neutralized. It was an excellent fight which definately highlighted the weaknesses in Chucks fighting style and also the serious threat that Jardine is to other fighters in the division when he doesn’t get to cocky and over confident. He seems like a pretty decent down to earth guy, other fighters would probably be bragging and boasting after that victory, it’s pity he got such a crap payout.

Very intelligent analysis.

But actually:
Chuck lost. It’s obvious. C’mon, let’s face it, Liddell is an ass clown for sporting a mohawk since 1992. Sptil-decision. Yeah right. Jardine should have won that decision unanimously. Chuck was the man, but he will never be the man again. Any questions? Rampage, Rampage, Wandi, Wandi, Hendo, Hendo, Jardine, Jardine, Forrest, Forrest, Houston, Houston, Shogun, Shogun! (all of which would beat Liddell)

totally agree with you man… the more i watch it, the more i realize how bashed up jardine was - chuck may have had a bruised body, but if it bothered him that much he would have blocked it or changed strategy, i doubt it hurt him - just the commentators hyping it up. Id like to have seen it go a full 5 - Chuck didnt lose - jardine got jammy

LIDDELL is OVER!!!. He’s way past his prime now. He beat those back when the pride fighters werent in the UFC. Now that pride is here Liddell is gonna be running like a bitch out of the octagon hoping for a decision win. All he has is that haymaker and a mohawk. He’s done just like tito is. It’s time for pride to run all over the UFC. If they bring in Fedor, Couture will surely retire after feeling his power.
