Thats because you already beat hughes…….GSP is getting the belt back … it does not matter who has it in his weight class…..GSP makes all other fighters in the weight classe look like a b level fighter……SERRA WAS LUCKY
everyone has a bad night. GSP will destroy all comers in the future. My only concern is him training with Jackson’s camp. I think he should train with Randy who has even said he’d love to train a guy with the skills and willingness to learn like GSP has. He’s the best fighter in the Jackson camp by far so i don’t see how it can be beneficial to him to train there. Just my two cents.
Would have Serra vs Hughes fight gone down any sooner if there wasn’t the TUF series?
April til December is nearly 8 months to wait for a title Fight! I hope the UFC doesnt make a habbit of this. Serra and Hughes could have fought in July and GSP could have got his title back last month and have a title defense comming in December! Instead here we have to wait 8 months for a title fight, It’s frustrating!
I watched this again last night, and Matt Serra did not get lucky, he just simply out striked GSP. GSP slipped, got back up, Serra drilled him with a punch made GSP wobble, and then Serra just like any smart MMA fighter, finished the fight.
Its not lucky at all.
I would love to see Serra/GSP II, I think GSP will come at a different approach. I think GSP would attempt to take down Serra this time.
Its not called lucky…. if it is the The greatest lightheavyweight champion ever…Chuck Liddell, is the “luckiest” fighter on the planet with 7 one punch KO’s… its not luck.. its MMA.. if you give a guy a clear shot with the level of competition their is they will catch you n matt caught GSP

Agree 100%. Gsp gave serra all kinds of time(seemed like the fight was postponed forever) to develop his strikin for specifically for gsp. it was a beatdown, granted i still think gsp is obviously the better fighter.
Spider Style - what an interesting point you brought up. Did not know Randy wanted him to train in his gym. That would benefit both. GSP will polish his great skills. And Randy would pump his Who of Who mma fighters in his gym.

The benefit that GSP can go to one place and train all aspects..before jackson he was training himself and bouncing around to different gyms to train. Kinda like one stop shopping…But I do think training with Couture would be even better for him.

You contradict yourself there, Serra’s win was luck - “GSP slipped”, a fighter of that caliber does not “slip” backing up/evading..a more likely scenerio is that there was spit/blood/water/banana peel on the floor and the angel his foot touched the floor was condusive to a slip…without the slip Serra’s hook would have never have connected - at least to the level that it did..
I’ve watched the fight numerous times…and that slip was the turning point, and it was more luck than preparedness that let Serra walk away with the win imo
I’m definetly going for st pierre over hughes or serra.
I’m fairly sure he will win either way.
serra beating st pierre I can’t see happening twice.
I’m going for st pierre over anyone in that division.
And what happens to serra if he loses to hughes where does he really rank against/in that division
maybe drop to lightweight not any easier thou.

HMM, the old banana peel in the Octagon trick. Remind me to have one of those whenever I get front row tickets at the next UFC Match. I could see it now, ” Hughes rushing towards Serra, oh no, Peel from the crowd, peel from the crowd!! Rogan shouts. “Hughes slides across the cage, face first, into Herb (quick stoppage) Dean.” Double KO. Wow what luck.

He should retire as soon as he wins it that way GSP doesn’t get to knock his block off again.

I would say Karo definately should get a shot before Kos!

Yeah, GSP looked real good in the first fight ~ great bjj!
basic whitebelt kimura counter to the armbar.

But the reason why he slipped is because he got caught by a wild punch to the back of the head then GSP started to rush out and slipped. Its not like GSP just slipped on black ice. GSP did get caught then it was either a slip or a stumble but Serra still finished.
GSP is he the better fighter than Matt Serra? He has better skill sets than Serra and has more potential than Serra, but on that night, Serra was the BETTER fighter, and there is no real “luck” in MMA, unless you somehow win via Judges decision in a lopsided fight, but then is that really luck?
Luck is a guy running out of bounds in basketball and grabbing a ball and throwing the ball inbetween his legs, off a commentators head, through a fire loop and a perfect swish of the basket.
Thats luck, MMA has nothing that has the word LUCK, its more Skill or flaw that luck.
I would say Karo definately should get a shot before Kos!
Absolutely. Fitch is the only WW fighter that is no doubt ahead of Karo. Karo earned himself a title shot two years ago, at UFC 56. But he was forced to drop out of the match due to an injury that occured during training. Karo and his cousin just don’t have any ‘luck’ when it comes to being 100% healthy for the biggest fight of their lives.

The GSP/Kos was not a snoozefest, it was exciting to see GSP just manhandle Kos.
Karo would get the shot way before Kos, because Karo has been deserving for a long time, and I think that if Karo wins against Hector Lombard I think that lines him up to fight Jon Fitch to determine who fights for the winner of Matt ____/GSP.
Kos and Fitch are BEST FRIENDS and unless something changes and they leave their AKA camp, there is NO WAY they would fight one another. Fitch would win that fight also BTW.
Koscheck is not even in the top 7 of that division.
Instead of Ryo, give Thiago, Koscheck. I would love to see a Thiago/Koscheck fight.
But I think they will give Koscheck possibly Luke Cummo which would be interesting to witness.

Great call, lets not get ahead of myself. If 2007 has taught us anything, it’s that no win is guarenteed! Although, without predictions this site wouldn’t be as fun.
Dec - Hughes over Serra via 3rd rd. TKO (strikes)
sometime early - mid 2008 - hughes over GSP via 5 rd. UD
after that…. Bring on whoever, because if Hughes beats GSP, all welterweights shoul go up or down a weightclass….Hughes will dominate!
But I think they will give Koscheck possibly Luke Cummo which would be interesting to witness.
That would be very interesting to see. I would be very suprised to see it end other than Luke by KO or Kos by decision. I see Luke getting the better of the standup (of course, he’s fighting Koscheck), and I don’t see Kos being able to submit Luke; nor do I see Luke getting up from a Kos takedown. So the fight would look pretty similar to Sherk/Franca. One fighter constantly looking for the takedown and to beat down his opponent, while the other is looking to keep the fight on its feet - but will have a difficult time against a much more pure athlete

I’m positive the hit to the back of the head, which totally f**ked up gsp’s equalibrium was unintentional, so if it was unintentional how does that equal skill? We are not saying that Fitch will beat GSP 9 out of 10 times. We are saying that Fitch is currently the toughest opponent that can be put in front of GSP - on a daily basis. 1. gsp is the most well rounded and is better than any other welter weight in every way other than with submissions.
2. Hughes is too strong for any welter weight other than gsp.
3. penn if he moves up in weight and if he improved his conditioning and strength would rank him number 2.
4. koscheck if a very good wrestler and I think he could out wrestle anyone other than hughes and gsp and is second to gsp for athletic ability.
5. karo is better than ever now and feel is slightly better than fitch and would love to see a match between these two.

I dunno, Matt Serra could possibly be in the top 5 of the Welterweights.
Look, Matt Serra has greatly improved since his loss to Karo. I think his tim on TUF4 greatly improved his performance. I honestly think if you matched up GSP and Matt Serra a year and a half ago, GSP would of finished Serra in 2 minutes.
But I think Serra has shown great improvement in his all around game to be considered in the top 5.
Here is my list of top 10 welterweights.
1.) Georges “Rush” St. Pierre
2.) Matt Hughes
3.) Karo “The Heat” Parysian
4.) Matt “The Terror” Serra
5.) Jon Fitch
6.) Thiago Alves
7.) Josh Koscheck
8.) Deigo “Nightmare” Sanchez
9.) Marcus “The Irish Hand Grenade” Davis
10.) Mike “Quick” Swick
If BJ Penn where to enter 170 again, he would be number 3.
I think Serra has greatly improved, but that is watching his fighter with GSP.
St. Pierre would likely defeat Hughes, Shogun and Fedor in the same night. then he would drink wine and eat poutine in the centre of the octagon. excellent.
Would pay 2x as much for a PPV event if I could watch St Pierre and Hughes tag team against Serra - I dont care to what result as long as Serra doesn’t get a chance to grab Rogan’s mic after the match…then he can go eat italian sausage in the centre of the octagonal structure contemplating his future at 170. Does anyone see Sera beating even the likes of Diego, KOS, or Fitch? Put Huerta in there with him!
This wait sucks! This season of TUF better be the best one ever, having a marketable fighter like Georges on the side lines doesn’t sense or cents I don’t get it.
On top of being considered one of the pound 4 pound elites, GSP also possess Class, Humbleness, Professionalism and charisma.
Oh! And he’s French Canadian! (The chicks dig that)
But I dont think he could defeat Hughes, Shogun and Fedor in the same night he doesn’t have a cape…yet!
i would like to see a rematch between a healthy diego sanchez and josh koscheck i think it would much more exciting the second time around because diego would be pushing the pace.
I dont like Serra at all .but i give himall the credit in the world for beating GSP fair and square.. having said that he was LUCKY… I dont mean it was a lucky punch i just mean that 9 times out of 10 GSP wins that matchup… If Serra gets passed Hughes.. which i dont think he will.. well see if hes as good as he thinks he is.

i’d rather see luke’s next fight be against marcus davis, i think that would be a better fight to watch, those guys match up a little better…for koscheck, i think after his loss to gsp the ufc should give him someone he should beat but still has talent, maybe a newcomer with an undefeated or really strong record…i think once karo wins his next fight him and fitch are destined for a #1 contender match early spring next year, maybe on the same ppv as gsp/matt, then those two winners would fight sometime in the summer…
Great point! I am a huge Marcus Davis fan (since he trains with Jorge Gurgel) and a Cummo/Davis match would be EXTREMELY entertaining, and plus both were on TUF 2!
You are right, UFC will probably throw a bone to both Koscheck and Deigo since they both have loss.
I mean to be honest, if Deigo stays at 170, I would like to see him fight Mike Swick, but like I just said above, they will probably throw a bone to him.
That or give Koscheck, Dustin Hazelett, because I think if Josh Kosh tries to wrestle Dustin to the ground, Dustin will find a way to submit Josh, because alot of people underestimate the kid from Kentucky.

Hughes doesn’t want any part of GSP. Did you notice that shit eating grin from ear to ear on Hughes, when he was saying ,” I love it ,I love it, I love it, when GSP lost to Sera. He knew he had a shot at the title again. To bad it ain’t going to last long because his first defence will be against GSP. That’s assuming he beats Sera and judging by his performance against Lytle, I don’t think it is going to be as easy as some think, because Lytle and Sera are very similar fighters.
Thats because you already beat hughes…….GSP is getting the belt back … it does not matter who has it in his weight class…..GSP makes all other fighters in the weight classe look like a b level fighter……SERRA WAS LUCKY
How awesome would a Jon Fitch vs. GSP match be for the UFC Welterweight title?
everyone has a bad night.
Fitch vs. Karo then winner vs. winner of GSP vs. either of the Matt’s?
I love it how people say Matt Serra got lucky.
Would be interesting.
woohoo!! I created a lead!!!! I feel like such a team player.. UFCMANIA RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree 100%. Gsp gave serra all kinds of time(seemed like the fight was postponed forever) to develop his strikin for specifically for gsp. it was a beatdown, granted i still think gsp is obviously the better fighter.
it is such an honour that i created a lead UFCMANIA RULES!!

Yeah Serra did fight better at that fight, but I think GSP is a better fighter 10 to 1.
Koscheck looking for an opponent in December. How about Jon Fitch!
Winner can face the looser of Serra vs Hughes and winner of that gets the Next Title shot! Just a thought!
I mean next shot after GSP!
I think GSP would benefit greatly from Couture’s camp..or Juanito’s camp.

HMM, the old banana peel in the Octagon trick. Remind me to have one of those whenever I get front row tickets at the next UFC Match.

We are not saying that Fitch will beat GSP 9 out of 10 times. We are saying that Fitch is currently the toughest opponent that can be put in front of GSP - on a daily basis. Anyone can pull off a fluke win, we’re talking about consistancy - someone that can push GSP to his limits on any day of the week.

I dont think one person said Matt Serra had better or even remotely close to the stand up skills of GSP, we all have agreed that we think that GSP is the better fighter 8 out of 10 times. Matt Serra could beat GSP again, just like any fight, Matt Serra could possibly defeat GSP again, you cant say there is “no friggin way” Matt Serra could repeat the performance, because it could easily happen again. Please watch the Matt Serra/Karo fight, Serra is no joke standing up, watch Shonie Carter/Matt Serra I, Matt was doing fine with the stand up. Nobody is saying he has better stand up than GSP I have not seen one person say that.
GSP was clipped in the back of the head the footage was on dailymotion the morning afeter but was removed by the afternoon. I know I wont convince people of this but I seen it so I know. The Matts better enjoy this year, cause early next year one of them gets the Beats Deluxe.

Fitch over powered sanchez, big deal, let him fight Hughes, karo, penn or koscheck, I’m not convinced he’s the best next to gsp. Sanchez was the only real big name fitch fought and the fight went back and forth with fitch over powering diego. I got the feeling pound for pound diego was the better fighter but fitch was simply just bigger and stronger than him and it showed. I’m just not on the fitch bandwagon yet and I’m not sure how well he’d fair again Hughes, penn, karo or koscheck, until then I’m not convinced he’s better than those guys.
I agree with nathan on each of his last two posts….well stated.

The big problem is that the big names in the WW division, such as Hughes, karo, penn and koscheck WOULD NOT TAKE A FIGHT AGAINST JON FITCH. Fitch has been asking for a big name for several fights now, but NO ONE wanted a piece of Fitch. Is this just a coincidence that no one wants to fight him, or is he really that good. I would go with “he’s that good.”
Actually, the only reason Deigo took the fight with Fitch is because after his loss to Kos, he wanted to fight the hardest competition out ther to get back on top. That’s why he took the fight with Fitch.
P.S. BJ would fight anybody out there, but he’s at LW now.

I’m positive the hit to the back of the head, which totally f**ked up gsp’s equalibrium was unintentional, so if it was unintentional how does that equal skill? Serra only looked good after gsp was seriously hurt and couldn’t tell up from down, I could have beaten the s**t out of gsp in that state, why can’t people see that???? No way in hell is serra at gsp’s level striking wise, and if he’s so good why was this his first tko? You don’t become a top striker in a few month’s anyone who knows anything about kick boxing knows it takes years and years to become really good at it. I’ve also seen the fight several times and it would take a hell of a lot more than that to convince me of serra’s stand up prowess, you’ll see what I’m talking about by watching his next 5 fights. I’ve never been impressed by one hit wonders and always go by all the fighters performances to evaluate a fighters skill.
I guess I agree with you and I have watched the serra/karo fight recently and am aware serra has heavy hands and dropped karo within the first 11 seconds of the fight. His most impressive fight to me was the one he had with bj penn and lost by a very close decision, very impressive to me. I still don’t consider serra to valid to 5 fighter, he lacks the consistency and over all skill. Heres who I would consider top 5 over all in the welter weights.
1. gsp is the most well rounded and is better than any other welter weight in every way other than with submissions.

Karo won’t fight him??? I doubt that, kos if he ever wants to be champ should change camps or weight classes, whats he thinking???
Jon Fitch is the only WW fighter than can match up with GSP on an every day basis.
i agree, i think that is the first defense gsp is gonna have once he gets his belt back…both of those guys are just such bad match ups for everyone else in the division because of their size and talent levels…

But I think they will give Koscheck possibly Luke Cummo which would be interesting to witness.
i’d rather see luke’s next fight be against marcus davis, i think that would be a better fight to watch, those guys match up a little better…for koscheck, i think after his loss to gsp the ufc should give him someone he should beat but still has talent, maybe a newcomer with an undefeated or really strong record…i think once karo wins his next fight him and fitch are destined for a #1 contender match early spring next year, maybe on the same ppv as gsp/matt, then those two winners would fight sometime in the summer…

I love it how people say Matt Serra got lucky.
I think GSP would attempt to take down Serra this time.
. Would be interesting.
What would you call it if I told you I hit a small tin can at 400 yards with an open sited .22, skill?…luck?
Cummo Vs Kos, I’d take Cummo via sub in the 3rd.
Matt hughes will make gsp his pet
i would like to see a rematch between a healthy diego sanchez and josh koscheck i think it would much more exciting the second time around because diego would be pushing the pace.
Urijha Faber would beat Serra.
So I don’t know how to spell hs name get over it.
Koscheck looking for an opponent in December. How about Jon Fitch!
Winner can face the looser of Serra vs Hughes and winner of that gets the Next Title shot! Just a thought!
That would be cool, but they wouldn’t accept to face each other. That rarely happens when both fighter train together. They just don’t do it

Jon Fitch is the only WW fighter than can match up with GSP on an every day basis.
agreed
Dang man, I like Fitch alot, but I dunno how he has gotten that high on your guyss list so quick. Beating Josh Burkman and Diego Sanchez dosnt put you at GSP’s level. Maybe it was teh temporary sponser ship of him by this site. Who knows….

Man I would love to see GSP vs. Shogun at a weight where they both could agree on. Possibly 185?
Could you imagine how much of an incredible fight that would be?
Hughes will crush Serra and then retire with the strap around his waist in 2-3 years!
He should retire as soon as he wins it that way GSP doesn’t get to knock his block off again.
Yeah, GSP looked real good in the first fight ~ great bjj!
basic whitebelt kimura counter to the armbar.
Gsp was pumped when he fought Hughes the 2nd time, he’s looked mediocre at best since then!
I like GSP too, but i honestly think Hughes will win the rubber match!
Care to put some money on that? Chuck has a better chance at Rampage. Hughes can’t take GSP down and he couldn’t strike a match. How is he going to beat him?

Just wouldn’t be fair weight wise, there is no way they could be within 25 pounds of each other by fight time.
I loved it when people were saying Hughes is scared of GSP and that he didn’t want to fight him again, well, we’ll see whats up after Hughes takes care of that other guy….I predict we see GSP pull out of the next Hughes fight with another injury! LOL
