Ill admit, that was a high pressure fight for Joe. Considering he wanted to impress Matt S. and he was the first pick of Matt S. AND ON TO OF IT ALL, he was the first fight. I believe it. But the triangle choke you could see coming from a mile away. It even took him a couple of tries before he locked it in. As a fighter myself, nerves are a big part of your performance. Especially in your first competitive fights.

true! but, you gotta explode out of that when you feel the leg move up high! that was pathetic! i hope no one payed to be a Serra “blackbelt”. team Hughes is going to run the table on these fools! Joe shouldn’t have been as nervous as he was, didn’t he corner Serra when he won the belt? i mean, he’s been around the octogon in very high stakes situations, i mean i know it’s not the same, but that was horrible bjj, period!

When I saw this, I said.. whatever, this guy does not deserve to be in the UFC, nerves or not. IF you cant handle nerves, infront of 35 people, how are you going to be able to do it infront of a crowd of 15,000? This guy is a black belt in BJJ and he cant even tell when a traingle is coming.. Either bad teaching by Matt Serra or Joe is just a crappy fighter.

Joe..was so nervous going into this fight..I was baffled. I mean Dude your a Matt Serra Blk Belt. ( his first Blk Belt )..and he gets caught in a Triangle choke from the guard??

that has to be the worst way for Team Serra to get things started. It would of looked better Joe geting KO’d TKO’d..anything then tapping like that. If those teo would of fought anywhere else..other then TUF show..it would of been a different..the pressure Joe put on himself..made him give up..he put himself in tha triangle choke.

Pressure is a natural part of fighting and it will always be there. TUF is probaly the easiest environment to fight in considering the amount of people in attendance (even if you compare it to local non-televised MMA tournaments) much less the grand stage of the UFC.

Can anyone remember Corey Hill, the first fight he ever had in MMA was in that TUF octagon and he was visibly nervous but he managed to survive and this is with little or no MMA tranning unlike this apparent black belt. The guy I train under would kick my ass if I gave anything less than 100%, Serra must feel down as a result of this.

Matt Hughes won both physically and mentally with this win!!!

Where is Corey Hill anyway?

Mac Danzig made Joe Scarola look like a novice grappler…Mac passed Joe’s guard..Joe couldn’t pass Mac’s guard..

John, the only time I saw Joe’s hands was when he was tapping..via basic BJJ 101..Triangle Choke from the guard.

Serra couldn’t of been more right!! That submission took all day and was finally landed after a few attempts.

Dana asked-”do you wanna be a fucking fighter?”

I guess Scarola answered the question NO

I see a simialar result in the Hughes/Serra Title fight. Hughes will take serra down (like he did Gracie) stretch him out and beat the piss out of him.

Joey just gave up. I thought that it really showed Serra’s loyalty to his camp but not much to say for him strategically. It was embarrassing for his first blackbelt to give up like that. As the old saying goes, you can teach a technique but you cant teach the fight. I’m just surprised how awkward and unprepared Joey was for the fight. I mean, he knew what he was getting into right? How did he be so mentally unprepared to fight? Bad showing there. Even Serra was like, “Don’t you dare tap!”

i thought it hughes was alittle hypocritical when he said he was going to put his #1 against serra’s #1, meaning his best against serra’s best. danzig was hughes 2nd pick and serra only picked joe out of loyalty, wich i actually respect. hughes himself said he wasn’t going to pick joe because he wasn’t that impressive. imo hughes just pulled a jens pulver, trying to put his best against serra’s weakest, to make himself look good. too bad for hughes cause this year is different. serra gets to pick who fights who next. i guarantee if hughes were to pick the next fight he would put one of his best against serra’s weakest. such an ego! i do admit though that i think hughes did pick better and probably has the better team.

HA obviously this guy came into the octagon with a “scared S**tless” look on his face. And now (in the next episode) he’s talking about pussying out and goign home bc he’s not meant for fighting. IF it’s the second episode and he wants to go home, let him go — who needs him.

Scarola pretty much crippled team Serra. Out of Loyalty, Serra chose Scarola with his 1st pick . Serra could of either had Mac or Baratta 1st and then took the greek dude 3rd ne way. Instead he was stuck being loyal to a pussy who shit his pants long before the fight ever started. Scarola should of been his like 5th pick instead of his first, and Scarola repaid serra for his loyalty by quitting. He found his way out. That was the crappiest triangle that ever finished a fighter. It took about 10 seconds to lock the triangle in properly and BJ black belt Joe did nothing to stop it. He gave up on Serra. He disgraced himself.

Loyalty can get u in trouble sometimes. Way to pay Serra back Joe. U r a disgrace!!!!! He possibly could have ruined this whole season for Serra. It is easy to say Serra shouldnt have picked him 1st, but Joe is his one of his top students, and a best man at his wedding. What a chump, I feel bad for Serra.

What the hell is wrong with Dana white? He is the head of the UFC and he curses on national TV once out of every 5 words. Hughes says his kids cant watch the show cuz of Serra’s mouth. Serra is a fighter, Dana is the president. Dana wants nothing more than too go mainstream but he acts like an idiot on TV. I think its entertaining to hear Dana talk like that, but that wont win over any new fans who have been against the sport thus far.

Props to Roman, he showed the mentality of a true fighter. I feel bad for the dude and I hope Dana gives him a shot on some prelim at a UFC event when his elbow heals. The guy as a great attitude for a fighter and I have to admit, seeing him spaz out on the Dr. was entertaining. Dana give ROMAN a shot!!!

Finally someone with some logic. The kid got caught with a nasty uppercut knee. I don’t think he really had a clear head the rest of the fight. Matt Serra should not have made the Humpty Dumpty comment in the locker room. It sent the message to his fighter that he believed Joe was going to get hurt and seriously. You don’t say that to a guy who’s looks are so important to him. Matt gets a little too involved emotionally. Isn’t that the opposite of what a master should do.

Walked off the show!…. Dana will never give Joe S, another opportunity ‘ever’ everyone and their mother’s told him what would happen, he’s seen previous shows, goofed on guys that quit. Promised Matt Sera he would not quit, asking Dana for 3 yrs to go on ultimate fighter, now he knows he’s going to lose his job at Sera’s gym, seriously, what a head case. Go see a psychiatrist, get on some anti-D’s, and find another career, this one is wasted, no one in a combatant sport will ever give him respect and he’s not the type of guy to go back and earn it somewhere else.

Joey didn’t have to fight anymore, all he had to do was stay in the house for a few more weeks, help Sera coach and then when the show was over, quit MMA and respectably go back to teaching jujitsu, how hard would that have been? What a immature child (29yrs old). At this point it’s not about being an MMA fighter it’s about being a man and living up to your obligation and backing your friend and team.

I feel mostly bad for Matt Sera, he practically beg Joe to stay. I think he’s lost his good friend over this because Joe let him down. Sera’s a good and caring guy, but Joe didn’t return all that Sera gave to him in the end, Joe wasn’t a friend that would back him up when he needed or asked for his help. It wasn’t like Sera was asking for a lot.

Joe told someone in a interview that he is used to attention because he is good looking. This kid is a joke. I think if Serra could take back the Black Belt for not having heart he would. Danzig is no great fighter he is really a 155pd fighter who is very small compared to other guys on the show. Joe could have made a good showing if he just worked his BJJ and stayed away from the big punch. Gettting caught in that triangle was a joke and Danzig really thinks he did something. He has said he thinks Serra is taking away from his victory by saying Joe did not try. Danzig thinks he locked it in tight and Joe could not get out. The truth is any first year fighter could have got away from that.
