“He’s the biggest-named opponent I’ve fought. You take out somebody who’s highly regarded by a lot of people, it’s going to raise your stock. I want to win in dominating fashion.”
– UFC welterweight contender, Jon Fitch, tells Steve Seivert at Brawl Sports that he is ready for his biggest MMA test to date when he goes up against Diego Sanchez at UFC 76: “Knockout” this weekend on September 22.

He said it the best. I really really hope, that Fitch does dominate this fight because he has alot to gain by winning. But what Deigo are we really going to see?
WAR FITCH
I think fitch will pull this fight and it going to be a really exciting fight but i dont think there is anyway somebody can dominate diego. you can use kos’s strategy and pick him apart but i dont think you can dominate a guy like diego.
I agree nc17. I’d like to see Fitch KO that weirdo Sanchez. Snatchez once said “everyone in the UFC know to be scared of me”…..until some B-class beat him by decision. Haha. But honestly I see a fast finish by one of these guys…..bet on Fitch…..second round TKO.
This is going to be a great fight. Im really looking FWD to this match up. Go Fitch! (not a dirty sanchez fan –>)= |) .
sanchez will woop his ass. 2nd rd tko.
Diego by ground and pound
Fitch will be the first to finish Diego. I’ll be there to see it in person. Greatly looking forward to it.
Exactly Fitch won’t dominate Diego, if he will win maybe by close decision, however Diego will be smarter now, instead standing up looking for KO, he will be pressuring Fitch, picking up pace and taking it to the ground, looking to punish and submit, if Fitch can hang with Diego till the end maybe he can squeeze a win, but you can’t submit an animal like Diego.
At least Diego was willing to fight Fitch. Fitch has wanted a fight against a UFC Top 10, but none of the 10 would agree to a match with him. Diego is the first to agree to a fight with Fitch, because after his loss to KOS, he said that he wants to fight the toughest opponents to get back on top. So us fans are the ones that make out the best!
Of course, this is going to be a great fight. If Griffin/Tavarez wasn’t on this card, Fitch and Sanchez would already have the Fight of the Night bonus money in thier pockets.
The last time I got excited to see a Sanchez fight it put me to sleep! So this time I am excited to watch a Fitch fight!
I want to see a crazy, phenominal, explosion, of energy and heart! With both fighters jumping and scrambling and banging, takedowns, escapes and judo throws. This could be the fight of the year! If it lives up to its potential!

We’re going to see the Sanchez that isn’t going to the ring half dead. Diego will pound Fitch out.
Id love to see him dominate, but it depends on what Sanchez is gonna show up. If its the one we saw against Kos (I know, I know… staph) then Fitch is gonna wipe his ass with him. It we see the Sanchez that Riggs and Florian, its gonna be a lil more interesting. I think Fitch has the CLEAR advantage on his feet, I think Fitch also has the mental advantage, but not sure about domination.
This fight is gonna put Fitch in the title contetion area… I just dont know if he is ready to face Hughes or GSP just yet.
I like fitch but not against the Nightmare. Diego will come out blasting and ready to fight in this one. The last fight against the Yellow man was a dud. But he looks healthy, focused and ready to run over the competition like we’re used to seeing him. Ground n pound Like a BULL, Cheers to the animalistic stylist.
This one’s a toss-up IMO. What’s the odds? I might just put money on whoever the underdog is lol.

we’re gonna see the diego we saw fight the 19 times he didn’t fight josh koscheck, and nobody dominates that diego
WAR DIEGO

Honestly, if Fitch was to fight Hughes, I would definitely put money on Fitch considering that the odds would be in Hughes’s favor. I mean, what does Hughes have that Fitch doesn’t? I think the Hughes experience edge would be cancelled out by Fitches edge in youth and energy. The only way I can see Fitch losing to Hughes is if he got sat on and decisioned, in other words, I don’t see Hughes finishing Fitch. If he won, it would be Chris Lytle-esque.
Pat, I agree. At the juncture, I’d call it a toss-up. There is no clear favorite skills- or strength-wise here. Hopefully it’ll be a fight to remember! Fitch has been gunning for a big fight with a top name. Diego is looking for redemption. That’s a recipe for a great fight.
This should be a great fight. Excellent card with out a title fight.

This is typical of what I’ve been seeing and reading. People are building in excuses for Diego. If he loses it’s because he’s not at his best, but if he wins, he is. Luppers, I don’t mean to point you out specifically, because you don’t seem to be a Diego lover or hater….and neither am I. I just want people to admit that Diego is 100% healthy and that if he loses, it’s because he lost to a better fighter. For those of you that don’t think Fitch can dominate Diego, I think you’re in for a big surprise. As far as Fitch vs Hugh/GSP….I think Fitch would have a great chance against Hughes for sure and as good of a chance as anyone else when it comes to GSP.
stand up is equal
cardio-equal
wrestiling- fitch
gnp-diego
submissions- can go either way
but diego is more aggressive
i got fitch either by submission 3 rd or by decision
Both of these guys are great fighters. If they fight like they say their gonna, there’s no way this fight will go the distance. The winner will be the one who doesn’t make the first mistake. Once a mistake is made, the other will capitalize in a big way. Styles are fairly equal, but both have good enough striking to stunn the other. Fitch by submission or diego by tko, second round.

Mike: I would also prolly bet on Fitch agAINST hughes for the simple fact that the odds favor hughes. However, I dont think that fitch’s submission game is on Hughes’s leve;, but so what, I wouldnt be syrprised to c Fitvh pound on hughes, as a matter of fact, I would be rooting for Fitch.
Fitch vs. Sanchez is too tough to call. Personally I wont be betting on that fight. I want Fitch to win, but it will be tough because Fitch’s strength is his ground n pound. To ground n pound diego will mean that Fitch has to put Diego on his back, and we all know Diego is a master grappler. I was analyzing the boring ass fight between Kos and diego the other day, and even though Kos was scared to take Diego down, the few times Kos did take diego down (towards the end of round one), Dieho scrambled his way on top, and then the bell rang and the round was over. I think Fitch will easily be able to take Diego down. Fitch is gonna have to be careful when trying to G n P Dipego, he must be cautious that he doesnt get caught in a submission.
People forget how tough Diego is. Not to mention he is coming off of his 1st loss and he is gonna fight his ass off trying to avoid a 2nd loss in a row. With that being said Fitch does have the tools to beat Diego, but make no mistake about it, neither fighter is gonna dominate the other fighter. This will be a very close and exciting fight. I will not bet this fight therefor I cant offer any predictions.
Being new to this blog (sucked in by the Bisping/Hamill debacle)I have got to say I am learning a lot - great commentary. I did not see Sanchez lose and was not impressed with Blondi against a focused GSP. Will be interesting to see if Diego’s ring side posturing is for real.
Sanchez TKO 2nd round
Is anyone else really looking forward to seeing a bloody, beaten down Diego Sanchez laying unconcious on the octagon canvas? As Fitch does his little cross-eyed-scream-while-clenching-his-fists that he does after he wins with Diego’s spattered blood all up on his hands, arms, chest and face.
Bring it!!!!!
Fitch is not as an accomplished wrestler as Kosheck is, so diego wouldn’t look tentative this time..
Look for the fight going the distance with diego taking the first round, and fitch taking rounds 2 and 3.
What’s the over/under on Diego acting like an idiot at the weigh-ins?
I honestly don’t see that happening. Like John said, “neither fighter is gonna dominate the other fighter”, this is going to be a back and forth match. Anything can happen in this fight. I like both fighters and pick Diego by unanimous decision.
Check this article out that I just found:
UFC color commentator Joe Rogan appeared on 106.7 FM KROQ “The Roq of the 80’s” to discuss mixed martial arts. Partway through the interview Rogan stated that Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic was considering quitting during his fight with Cheick Kongo at UFC 75: Champion vs. Champion.
“If you watch the last UFC, this is something nobody knows, the Mirko Cro Cop fight that was on Spike last week - he got kneed in the balls, he went down and said to “Big” John McCarthy, “I’m too old for this shit.” and Big John said “No man you’re fine, you’re fine.” and he goes, “No I should just quit right now.” He said this while he was down and Big John goes, “If you want to quit just let me know and he said no, no I don’t.” So he had 5 minutes to recover and said he was too old for this.”
The UFC signed Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic to a lucrative two year, six-fight contract in December 2006. At the time, Cro Cop was on top of the world winning the PRIDE Open Weight Grand Prix which consisted of him defeating Wanderlei Silva and Josh Barnett in the same night to earn the tournament belt.
Since joining the ranks of the UFC heavyweight division Cro Cop has been a total disappointment. He was victorious in his debut defeating Eddie Sanchez by TKO. Since then he has dropped two straight fights, a vicious high kick knockout loss to Gabriel Gonzaga and a decision loss to Cheick Kongo.
I hope Fitch beats the crap out of Diego and the Mariachi’s that he comes out with during his entrances. All jokes to the side this will be a very very interesting fight.
Diego has not been badly beaten by nobody and Fitch won’t be the first. Look for Diego to Knock Fitch’s teeth out in the 2nd Round like Karo. Diego has something to prove and he will end the fight early. Fitch has not fought anybody good and it will show. Can’t wait until Saturday when all Sanchez haters come up with new excuses. See you Saturday when Sanchez is announced Victorious.
When I saw Diego fight Kos, I knew something was wrong. Diego has straight out annihilated people, and seeing him fight the way he fought Kos was ridiculous. But when I found out about the infection, it kind of all made sense.
Unless he’s got another injury or health problem, I don’t see Diego losing this fight. Fitch is respectable, but I have my doubts. When Diego’s 100%, we know what we’re going to get. With Fitch, we still don’t know how he’s going to perform against better competition.
It’s an interesting match-up, and I’m looking forward to the fight. But in the end, I’d be very surprised to see Diego lose this fight, and I predict he wins by decision.

I also want to see Diego get killed. I have never really cared for him, but respect him a little more since he didn’t exactly cry to the whole world about his staff infection being the reason he lost to Koscheck ( although he was a little tearie eyed when the decision was announced, what a pansy weirdo). And not that it means a thing, but Koscheck has always said fitch is one of the toughest guys in the game and made it seem a little like he thinks Fitch is better than him ( Kos )
When Fitch gets through with Diego he’s gonna need his Rescue Pack.

wow, washed up
When fights are this close, they usually turn out boring as hell. Unless, one slips up or doesn’t bring his A game, it will go the distance… let’s pray for anything but a draw. IMO, set aside the skills, Diego has such weak character. Finch represents himself respectfully. Thereafore, Finch by decision.
God I hope Fitch can beat him, Diego needs another loss.
I see Diego taking a close scorecard
UFC Mania,
Are they allowing you to sponsor Fitch in 78?

Nice find man, been doing your research!!
I think if Fitch and Diego both give it their all it could end up fight of the night with ease. Diego is a wierdo, but so what….he’s a good fighter! Fitch is ugly…so what!! I have tickets and I am going to watch those wierd ugly muthas bring it to that cage and let the leather fly!!
This fight is too close to call and I really see it going back and forth, this one will end in a split or majority decision. Nobody has dominated sanchez and I doubt any welter weight could……… maybe a 100% focused and spot on gsp. If diego’s fight with karo say’s anything, the guy will be very hard to finish and is tough as nails. I know a lot of commentators on this site hate diego but how can you deny his record, 19 wins in a row is crazy, I know his only big win was karo but still very impressive. I used to hate diego but am neutral towards him now, ever since he lost to kos he seems more humble. This fight is truely 50/50 to me, I won’t be surprised if either guys wins, but will be surprised if it isn’t by a razor thin decision.

i think you’re wrong about this fight not going the distance because i think part of the reason both of these guys are such good fighters is because they are able to recover after they make mistakes, look at fitch against roan carniero, and diego got tossed around a few times by karo…i see this fight being a very close decision, who wins is too tough to call, although i’m gonna be cheering for diego, but as mma fans we all win on saturday night getting to watch two guys like this fight each other…
sanchez all day cuddie!
UFCMANIA I live in Anaheim and I was wondering if you had any info about autograph signing before the event? If so, what’s the time date and place? if anyone knows please let me know

I haven’t really seen much of Fitch but after watching his small segment of “Countdown to UFC 76″ he seems like the real deal. I missed half of the show but I saw Shogun as well, he has a bit of hair now. But the show does its job and really gets you pumped for the event, shame I missed the Jardine - Liddell build up.
Diego was coming off a staff infection when he fought KOS. Had KOS’s back at the end of round one, and pretty much lost a boring fight. I think he will be back 100% and beat Fitch.

Hate, hate hate. How can any MMA fan not appreciate some of the performances Diego has put on in the Octogan, especially the Karo and Diaz fights. He can be a bit weird at times but it’s no big deal, it’s what he does in the octogan that’s important. He is definately one of the most exciting and aggresive fighters out there, isn’t that what you pay your money for. And how weird can he be to get the woman he’s going out with. He is without doubt one of the fighters that make MMA worth watching. As a fan I am hoping Diego wins, it should be an excellent fight if Fitch is as good as everyone says. I am looking forward to this.

Donner, I’ve heard you ask this in like 8 threads now, with no response. If you are looking to get autographs, show up to the weigh ins. That’s where you will be able to get autographs and see some of your favorite fighters. When I saw the UFC, it was at a casino, so a bunch of fighters were hanging out. That would be a great fight. Mayhem fights at MW now, but he would most likely be able to make WW if he wanted to, key thing being ‘if he wanted to.’ They are both among my Top 10 favorites, but I would have to give a slight edge to Fitch. I can just picture Mayhem making a small, subtle mistake while tyring to please the audience, and Fitch capitalizing.

I do appreciate Diego. I actually think that he was the most dominant fighter on any season of TUF, yes, even more dominant than Bisping. Remember the rules of the show were different back in the first season. They had challenges to determine who chose the fight, and there was no rule saying win once, and you’re in the semi’s. Diego had to win 4 fights to become the Ultimate Fighter, and it was in a weight class above his. However, its worth noting that the other finalist, Kenny Florian, was fighting 2 weight classes above his normal weight - that’s 30 lbs!
Its just that Fitch is my favorite WW, so why wouldn’t I root for Fitch to turn Diego into a bloody pile of Mexican?

originally i said my prediction was fitch 3-1 but that all depends on which diego shows up if “nightmare” shows then its a tough fight for any welterweght in the ufc
staph. staph staph staph.
I’m packing for my trip to Anaheim to watch Fitch impose his will on Diego. Obviously, just my opinion, but as far as I know, Diego is 100% healthy right now, so no excuses from any of you Diego lovers when he loses. NO EXCUSES!!!
Sanchez has had several impressive fights against top talent and prevailed. This will be the toughest fight to date for Fitch. It seems many are predicting Fitch to win. He seems untested. I would pick Karo over Fitch. So I am picking Sanchez.I wouldn’t bet on this bout. To close for comfort.

Go watch Fitch vs Burkman (ufc.com for $1.99) then watch Karo vs Burkman - then tell me Karo would beat Fitch. I understand that common oponents only goes so far, but if you want to make a prediction on Fitch/Karo - that’s a great place to start. Fitch made Burkman look like the elephant man and finished him in the 2nd.
As far as Fitch being untested:
-Shonie Carter
-Joff Joslin
-Brock Larson
-Thiago Alves
-Kuniyoshi Hironaka
-Luigi Fioravanti
-Roan Carneiro
He asked for Karo after he finished Luigi, but the UFC gave Burkman the Karo fight instead, even though Fitch destroyed Burkman. Don’t knock a guy because he hasn’t gotten the fights he’s asked for. Everyone will know Fitch after the Diego fight. I think he’ll he destroy Diego, but opinions are worthless - we’ll all see what’s really going to happen on Saturday night.
UFCMANIA……..Thank you for that
weigh-ins are a day before the event right? So it would be this friday?
This is a very interesting fight. There isn’t a clear cut favorite. I think if Fitch can keep the fight standing, like Koshceck did he will win. His dominant wrestling should allow him to defend the takedown, but if this fight goes to the ground look for Diego to try and stop it via submission or ground and pound. If this fight stays standing I’d give the advantage to Fitch, if it goes to the ground advantage Sanchez. Ipersonally believe the winner of this fight should fight Georges St. Pierre and the winner of that fight should challange the winner of Hughes vs Serra for the Welterweight title.
