dave terrell ed herman
Dave Terrell (6-2) will return to the Octagon to fight Ed Herman (13-5) in a middleweight bout during UFC 78 on November 17 at the Prudential Arena in Newark, N.J., according to MMAWeekly.com.

Terrell burst onto the scene in his UFC debut in 2004, knocking out Matt Lindland just 24 seconds into their bout at UFC 49. The upset earned him a shot at the middleweight title, which was vacated by Murilo Bustamante.

“The Soul Assassin” lost that championship bout to Evan Tanner via technical knockout at UFC 51 in 2005. Terrell — a jiu-jitsu student of Cesar Gracie — would fight just one more time after the loss to Tanner, submitting Scott Smith with a rear naked choke at UFC 59 in 2006.

He hasn’t had a fight since that time.

That’s because injuries have plagued Terrell for the better part of his career — he has been forced to withdraw from several fights. In fact, we recently passed along news that he would return at 205 pounds (rather than the 185-pound limit) to avoid getting hurt.

Herman — a middleweight finalist during the third season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) — is on a two fight win streak. He has stopped Chris Price and Scott Smith via submissions since losing to Jason MacDonald and Kendall Grove.

I want to see this fight..it should be a good one.

Team Quest vs. Team Gracie Dave Terrell is a little older and needs to perform well to get back in the mix..and Ed needs to continue and fight better guys..who will be who’s stepping stone at UFC 78??

Riddle me this — If Ed Herman was half as good as he thinks he is he would be twice as good as he actually is.

Man, I am excited about this. Dave is one of my favorite fighters, and to see him go against an almost even fighter, this fight has the style to be the fight of the night. Both men are great on the ground but I give the standup to Ed.

I really hope they show this fight.

I give the edge skill wise to terrell i think he will have the better ground game and better standup. But the reason i think ed will win this fight is because terrell is coming off a one year lay off. When most people return from a long lay off they are not as sharp as they want to be. Although there is one exception and that is randy couture.

Good to see Terrell back. I say he takes this fight fairly easily. Herman is not in his league as far as grappling is concerned

This is too funny! However, the Short fuse showed some maturity in his loses. If Terrell had Herman’s heart he would be at a different level.

This has the potential to be a good fight. Qoute Ed Herman “Im the best fighter in this house and I’m definitly the best looking dude in this house”. I’m not sure what being the best looking guy has to do with winning the TUF, I thought he was funny and a lil retarded.

Hey Mania,
Do you have any Idea if the Terrell vs. Herman fight will be on the main card or will it be a prelim?

This will make for a nice preliminary bout. If they have a few more good prelims, I will go to this event, even though it has Tito/Rashad II.

Terrell could take this fight easily, the only problem with that is that David hasn’t fought in sooo long, that nobody can really predict how he will look in his return to the UFC. How about Ed Herman destroying scott smiths nose in Ireland?

Mike: Im from Philadelphia so this event will be my best chance of going to a UFC event Live. I really dont wanna c Rashad n Tito, but if this card continues to get better I will attend this event. 1st I wanna c if BJ will be fighting and against who. I hope that the Terrell fight will be a prelim fight. I hate the fact that Tito has so many idiotic fan. Unfortunately because of his fan base the tito fight will b one of the main fights on this card. I wish that more fans would realize that Tito is a crappy fighter who just markets his fights well by talking all that crap. Fans need to realize that tito is washed up so that Tito’s fights wont be major fights on the fight cards. Until that happens Dana will continue to make Tito’s fights a major fight on fight cards, and any well informed fan knows that Tito should be the 1st fight of the night if not a prelim, instead of a co-main event.

Hopefully Tito or Rashad will get hurt really soon so that the fight will have to be pushed back to a later event, and replaced with another top fight, because I really dont want my 1st LIVE UFC event to feature Tito vs. Rashad as a major fight on the card.

If they make “Mach” Sakurai fight Karo at this event, I will prolly definitly attend this event. Just get the damn Tito Rashad fight off this card.

Edgar and Fisher will be a great fight. I wish Louzon was fighting a better opponent.

I know it isn’t really a riddle. It’s an opinion-based statement that can possibly confuse people, or at least make them read it a few times to figure out the meaning.

Again, my thoughts exactly. Sakurai was originally supposed to fight Diego - never happened. Now there’s rumours that he’ll fight Karo. Either of those fight would be awesome! Edgar Fisher so far has the most potential as being fight of the night. And I too wish Lauzon was fighting someone with a name.

But hey, even if I don’t spend $400 per ticket, I will still go to the weigh ins on Friday night. If you too plan on attending, I wouldn’t mind meeting up with you so we can watch them together. My brother is definitely going, and I’m not sure if my wife would go to the weigh ins. But if I attend the PPV, at least the 3 of us would be going.

In the likelyhood that Terrell does injure himself, anyone have any replacement suggestions?

I just looked at ticketmaster and ufc.com, and they just have tickets available for events up to 77 in October.

MANIA, do you know any of the onsale dates for UFC 78? I might consider becoming one of the premium fight club members, or whatever its called, to get first crack at buying tickets. I’m pretty sure that by the time the onsale date comes for just the free membership thing, all the premium seats will be long gone.

John, does you brother ever come to this forum at all? Mine does…

nice to see Terrell back again. 185 needs a shot in the ass right now. Herman isn’t a tall enough order for terrell, but the ring rust is a factor. Terrell via submission early 3rd. Similar to a certain Canadians finish on “short fuse”.

Even still… might just catch this one at the pub. I’d rather spend $60 on beer then $40 on Tito v. Rashad II.
Did anybody want to see this fight again?

SOrry to get off topic… Where the hell is Evan Tanner? (I last saw Terrell fighting/losing to Tanner)

I would love to see a returning Evan Tanner take on Bisping.
It’s time Bisping steps up in *Middleweight* and fights a name. Hamil won the fight clearly, but i’d like to dodge Hamil v. Bisping II (you see where this is going right???)… and he’s moving to 185 reportedly….controversy or not, it’s Mikey’s “W”…. give him to Tanner.

Winner Terrell v. Herman gets Winner of Tanner/Bisping.
good idea, bad idea?

BZ.

Ha! Yeah, say goodnight Eddie…
Terrell will want to keep it standing. I don’t recall his ground game but he did choke out another TUF guy so it’s not bad. I never got on board the Ed Herman train. I tend to judge fighters by what they do in the cage versus fancy haircuts, tattoos or smack-talking interviews. Now that I think of it, Anderson Silva is my favorite fighter and: 1) he has no tattoos 2) has no hair and 3) I don’t know what the hell he’s saying when he talks.
