Rich Clementi (25-12-1) will take on Anthony Johnson (4-0) at UFC 76: “Knockout” on September 22 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., according to MMAWeekly.com.
With the pay-per-view (PPV) event just one week away this welterweight match up is a very late addition to the card. That’s because Wilson Gouveia had to drop out of his light heavyweight showdown with Jason Lambert because of a broken nose earlier this week.
And rather then go with just eight bouts — which seemed to be the direction in which the organization was headed — the fight card is back up to the usual nine bouts.
As a result, “No Love” Clementi — a former contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) — now gets another crack inside the Octagon against hard-hitting up-and-comer, Anthony Johnson.
Clementi is coming off of a submission win over Kyle Gibbons during an International Fight Organization (IFO) show little more than one week ago. The mixed martial arts veteran has had solid success throughout his career — just not in the UFC (1-3).
He has losses to Roan Carneiro, Din Thomas and Yves Edwards. Clementi defeated Ross Pointon at UFC Fight Night 8 earlier this year for his only win inside the Octagon.
Johnson was penciled in to fight Jess Liaudin at UFC 75: “Champion vs. Champion” on September 8. However, a shoulder injury sustained during training forced him off the London card. He has one UFC win — a 14-second knockout of Chad Reiner at UFC Fight Night 10.

Even though Clementi is drier then… well NM. I think he has talent. All his losses in the UFC come against guys that are known for being players. Maybe we will get lucky and see a show…
Also, wanna consider how far out Johnson is. Clmenti fought a week ago, which says he is in fighting shape….

Yeah I get what you mean, but I don’t think any fighter would take up a fight with such short notice if they have not been trainning at all, at least I hope not.

Numerous undercard and replacement fighters take fights on little to no notice… unfortunately its part of getting your foot in the doorway.
Johnson will pound him out in about 2-3 minutes.
How many chances does Rich get?
They give Mayhem, one chance in the UFC against a guy who ended up being the welterweight champion of the world, but yet it seems like no matter how many times Rich loses, he still will have a shot at the ufc.
Johnson, might be the next up and comer in this division. He has shown that he can strike. I see him being a smaller version of Houston Alexander.
Johnson looked great in his debut. Yeah it was on 14 seconds, but he really impressed me. I love his pre-fight trash talking too! I hope to see an early knock out again. He was injured and couldnt fight two weeks ago, but he’s ready to go now? That’s strange. Hopefully he trained.
I guess will see if johnson is for real as he is going up against a crafty veteran.
Looks like another loss for Clementi, b/c he seems to have bad luck w/ Black fighters. Think about it; he lost to Yves in his first UFC fight, then he lost to Shonie Carter on the Ultimate Fighter, then he lost to Din Thomas on the UF Finale, then he had that beef w/ Melvin Guillard. Poor guy lost the fight before it started…

lol, the fight is in a week. Do you really think Dana is playing favorites here? I’m pretty positive he was the only one that would take the fight on such short notice.
U call this new?

I fully expect Clementi to get dominated and KO’d, as usual.
I love Jason Mayhem Miller. I recently listed by top 10 favorite fighters, and I had Miller right around #6 or 7. He is such a character. I LOVE everyone of his interviews. He is HIGHLY skilled, EXCELLENT chin, great BJJ, great Muay Thai, GSP couldn’t finish him, he now fights at MW, the weakest division of the UFC, so why ain’t he here. I actually just rewatched WEC debut fights, against Hiromitsu Miura. I love his style. I actually laughed out loud several times during the fight. During a fight, he knows when he has that 1 second to make people laugh. Fighting that Japanese fighter, he kept on doing these little karate kid hands movements….
I AM A MAYHEM MONKEY FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right on with the alexander comment
i like it, i want to see if johnson’s KO was just a fluke, and clementi has enough experience fighting in and out of the octagon to give johnson that test…i personally think clementi is gonna win this fight, but only because johnson hasn’t proved himself to me yet and clementi has lost to some tough dudes, but i said this same thing about sakara beating houston alexander and look where that got me, so who knows, thats what makes this fight worth watching

Hey Mike: Mayhem was trying some high level submissions in that fight vs “The last samurai” Miura that you dont see to often in MMA like “Splits” and the “Twister”, with the UFC middleweight division being so crappy, why in the world has Dana not brought Filho and Mayhem over to the UFC? I mean they are already employed by Zuffa, the 185 lb division in the UFC is in desperate need of both of them.

I agree that Mayem should be back in the UFC. Even if he isnt at the top of the food chain, he is always entertaining to watch.
As for this fight, I gotta go with the striker, Johnson. I just like seeing guys get knocked out with style.
Jesus Christo, have you ever seen more of a stepping stone, why not put johnson up against sinosic
I’d like to see Miller back in the UFC. I’ve only seen him fight once, against GSP. He’s a goofy dude that got his ass kicked and I laughed the whole fight. But he’s a tough guy and the middleweight division could use him.

I second that. Johnson has long arms and fast hands. If he can keep the fight off the ground he will crush Clementi.

NOOOOOOOOOO, you just laughed when he made his entrance wearing the Hannibal Lector mask. Once the fight started, we were all impressed that he hung in there the whole fight. He literally got his ass kicked for about 14 and a half minutes, was bleeding perfusely everywere, and he still had a smile on his face!
Clementi is a bum!!
Johnson seems liek the truth! id love to see him fight atleast one for this yr anda few next yr if hes still winning…

Amen.
I am very glad that this has turned out to be a Mayhem Miller topic now! =p
Mayhem, might just be the nicest guy to his fanbase. Literally, this guy is extremely incredible, and actually has answered me back on his myspace..
I know we all want Mayhem and Paulo up to the UFC, but if the WEC did that, they would lose a fanbase as well, because they are trying to build their name up like the UFC, and losing two incredible stars like that would really hurt the buisness.
It was just a philosophical question, because it seems like Rich keeps getting chance after chance, but yet Mayhem got one, at UFC 52 in an incredible brawl with GSP (yes Mayhem got dominated, but he put up a fight and did not get finished.) Where is another TUF alum? Where is Chris Lytle? Shonie Carter, Edwin DeWees? Where are these fighters, heck, GET ROSS POINTON, I am sure he would drop weight to fight underneath such a short notice. I dunno, I like Rich, but his face is going to get ran over by a truck come next week.
even though it’s not really a good fight or nothing i am at least glad that the ufc made the extra effort to give us 9 fights instead of 8. true that the prelims will all suck and i’ll get my beer during their fights but anyways johnson will beat clementi all the way out of the ufc. you guys are making a point if ufc is paying mayhem and fihlo in wec they should move those guys into the ufc and drop some of the newbies or fighters that need a fresh start like scott smith for example.i am glad to see dave terrell back and with ryo chonan at least they are trying to adress the issue with the weak division.
UFCMANIA I live in Anaheim and I was wondering if you had any info about autograph signing before the event? If so, what’s the time date and place? if anyone knows please let me know
He is a decent “B” level guy, at least we got more names to throw in the hat…and who knows what will happen…he has done good in the past…just not in the UFC.

I also laughed really hard when he tried to kick himself up off the mat and he got kicked back down!
