Josh Burkman (8-4) and Forrest Petz (13-4) will meet in a welterweight bout at UFC 77: “Hostile Territory” in Cincinnati, Ohio, on October 20, according to a recent MySpace bulletin from “The People’s Warrior.”
The 170-pound clash finalizes the UFC 77 fight card from the U.S. Bank Arena.
Burkman is coming off of a unanimous decision loss to Karo Parisyan at UFC 74 this past May. The former contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) — who also dates UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste — possesses a decent record inside the Octagon (4-2) since his debut in 2005.
Petz is from nearby Cleveland, Ohio, and will look to put together back-to-back UFC wins for the first time in his career. “The Meat Cleaver” recently outpointed the game Luigi Fioravanti on all three judges scorecards at UFC Fight Night 10 back in June.
Both Burkman and Petz share a common opponent, Sam Morgan, who Burkman crushed with a slam and Petz earned a unanimous decision.

Does this fight really appeal to anyone?

Oh come on man… two guys you have never heard of or cared about watching before could put up one of the greatest fights in history. Dont be such a bizotch.
Burkman has talent entertaining fighter to watch. Petz I dont know much about, but I do know that Fioravanti is a push over (but not exceptional) so that says something.
This aired or undercard?
God, typing errors.
Burkman IS a talented and entertaining fighter to watch…
Fioravanti is NOT a push over
Ill shut up now.
Thank you for translating.
This card is weak. Two good fights, and that’s it. This next PPV, UFC 76 has 4 great fights, and I’m not including the main event as one of them!
Arianni can do better than Josh Burkman… she should be a porn star if her career runs short in the ufc

why not – it’s a good fight for sure

I’ve been waiting for Vera to face (and knockout) Sylvia way back when Sylvia has the belt so that fight alone makes it worth it to me.
And although Franklin was an all-time fav of mine for awhile, it’ll be an exciting night watching Silva comletely tear apart Rich’s game plan (and self-esteem) and knock him out again.
I’m sure two more good headliners will pop up on the card before it’s all said and done. There’s a reason only two are posted right now so I’d wait until they finalize before dogging on the final card too much.
I also think that 76 has a bunch of great fighters on the card but I don’t think the “match-ups” are that great. if they flipped it to Rua v Liddell and Griffin v Jardine II it would be more exciting to watch. But none beat Vera v Sylvia though.
Could be a good scrap…

And I’ll quote (copy/paste) form Mania’s article:
“The 170-pound clash finalizes the UFC 77 fight card from the U.S. Bank Arena.”
There will be no more fights added. All we have as far as fights Im looking forward to are the two main ones = Franklin/Silva and Sylvia/Vera.
Seriously, what other fights are you guys really looking forward to? I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’ll watch any two UFC caliber guys fight any day of the week, but I’m reffering to actually be excited for weeks leading up to the event.
Burkman seems like a pretty cool dude. I don’t recall who Forrest Petz is.

Classy dude, in the eye of the beholder.

Yeh this is the weakest card since that Ireland crap at UFC 70.
WTF……. All the great fighters in the UFC and they put together this card? After the past couple of events, this is a step back…..
Im not happy with this card.
I’d rather c Burkman fight Karo again.
Burkman better step it up before he’s the next Joe Riggs
UFCFAN1981 and ViolentMike: Good looking out, that site is awesome (mmaplayground), I never went on it before.
Also, about Lindland, I forget where I herd this, but it was an interview with Lindland and he said, that back when Lindland was fighting in the UFC, Dana was pushing for Rich Franklin (one of Dana’s posterboys) to be champion. Lindland said that since he would have crushed Rich, Dana wouldnt let him fight Rich or something like that. Thats what the falling out between him and Dana was about. Enough with the baby shit between Dana and fighters. Grow up Dana, Im sick of hearing about his personal problems with fighters.
Just get me everysingle top 10 fighter in the world. He acts petty sometimes.

What two fights are you refering to?
I want to see Macdonald and Okami fight?
Vera and Sylvia doesnt appeal to me I will watch it and maybe I will be pleasantly surprised!
What is mmaplayground is thier a link?
I agree Dana needs to keep his personality out of match making!
[quote comment="147508"Also, about Lindland, I forget where I herd this, but it was an interview with Lindland and he said, that back when Lindland was fighting in the UFC, Dana was pushing for Rich Franklin (one of Dana's posterboys) to be champion. From a business standpoint I can understand why White would have felt a charismatic champion and representative for mixed martial arts was important. You have to admit, Rich Franklin was a very good spokesman for MMA and an exceptional answer to all the folks who called cage fighting no more than human cock fighting. Dana White could take Frankin all the way into MOR America, even onto Fox News to speak with Bill O’Reilly, and prove that not all UFC fighters were mindless, savage brutes. Back then they were still trying to grow and popularize/legitimize themselves, but I would hope that at this point he can see the sport and the organization are pretty established and back the fuck off with all this puppet master shit.
This is of course taking for granted that what Lindland is saying is true. After all, this may just be his take on the matter while the truth can be something else entirely. White is a hands-on type of president, which I like, and maybe there is a whole other set of reasons why Lindland couldn’t fight Franklin at the time.
Also, tossing Franklin into the octagon with Anderson Silva isn’t exactly the actions of a president trying to protect his champion. Here’s to hoping the period of puppet mastery in the UFC is over (well, at least to the degree that existed a few years back).
no link needed….mmaplayground.com…simple as that man.
If burkman loses I think everybody that posts on ufcmania get’s to do his chick….Man she is good spank bank
I’d rather c Burkman fight Karo again.
Karo is too skilled for Burkman in my opinion. He seems like an immature fighter in general to me though. And that first fight between Silva and Franklin was crazy…. With the way Franklin’s nose was, it was like Silva made a Mr. Potato Head out of him. *cringe*
What two fights are you refering to?
I was refering to the Sylvia/Vera and Franklin/Silva – even though we all fully expect Silva to brutally KO him in the first round, and have him rushed off to the plastic surgeon again.
Okami vs MacDonald is an interesting match up. Okami is the strongest MW, and MacDonald is among the physically weakest (I would suspect). MacDonald has excellent BJJ, so I am rooting for him to submit Okami. Okami just doesn’t do much for me.
Burkman looks like a buffed up Lexx Luther from Smallville.

Doug, the incident I am talking about between Dana and Lindland happened years ago, b4 the UFC was so popular. Ok lets say Rich was better for the sport then Lindland OK, now its time for Dana and Lindland to bury the Hatchet and get Lindland in the octagon
