“I just don’t like this guy [Terry Martin]. He has a big mouth. Terry Martin has said he’s the next big thing at 185 and that he will be champion. He thinks he has heavy hands because he knocked out Jorge Rivera. But if you watch that fight, you see Rivera was already off balance and he caught him. He’s a one-dimensional fighter. He doesn’t shoot for the leg; he tries to trap you against the cage. I can use my reach against him, and I have good footwork and hands. It will be a long night for him if he wants to try and trap me against the cage.”
– Patrick Cote tells FightNetwork.com that he wants the winner of the middlweight fight between Chris Leben and Terry Martin at UFC Fight Night 11 on September 19. Cote is fresh of a technical knockout (strikes) win over Kendall Grove at UFC 74 last month.

i heard that they don’t like eachother, i think terry martin would knock him out, i would love to see the fight. maybe in dec i hope. the one who wins would no doubt go up the ladder to a eventual title shot.

What????? Title shot? ha. Thats a good one. No way does winning against Chris Leben or Patrick Cote give you a title shot. It stops you from going to WEC maybe. But not a title shot. You beat Franklin or Okami right now will get you a title shot.
talk the talk..walk the walk..it’s easier said then done.

He said “go up the ladder to a eventual title shot.” NOT get in instant title shot.
ANYWAYS, Cote better be hoping that Marting does beat Leben, because Leben already has a win over Cote in the octagon. (however, it was a close decision and an exciting fight). You can throw any combination of these 3 guys into the octagon and you’re going to have a slobberknocker.
I think thas the first time i heard “slobberknocker” since i watched that ol cowboy announcer dude on the pro(fake) wrestling lol…Good word way to bring it back!
John,
earlier today you had asked me
“What do u think about wanderlei or Forrest (after he looses to Shogun) for Houston Alexanders next opponent. I cant wait to c him fight again.”
But since its in a thread with 500 comments, I don’t think you saw it, so I put it here to. If you’re not John AND you already read it in the other thread, PLEASE skip over it. Otherwise, let me know what you think.
I can not wait to find out who Wanerlei’s first opponent will be!!!
How does this scenerio sound? The only problem is that one of the resulting matchups would never take place – Wandi vs Shogun. They will never fight each other.
Shogun vs Forrest = Winner gets a title shot, yes – even if Forrest wins.
Chuck vs Jardine. For the sake of arguement, I’m going to assume Chuck wins.
Wanderlei Silva vs Houston Alexander – The winner faces Chuck Liddell (provided he beats Jardine) in a #1 contender match.
Right around this time, the championship matchup between Rampage and Shogun, eh hem, excuse me. The championship matchup between Rampage and the winner of Shogun/Forrest will be fighting for the belt. So we’ll assume (for sake of arguement) it’ll be Rampage vs Shogun in a rematch.
Wandi/Alexander vs Liddell in #1 contender fight. That would lead to the next title fight being one of the following 4 possiblities, with only 3 of them actually being a possibility.
Rampage vs Wandi in a rematch, this time for unified championship
Rampage vs Houston Alexander
Shogun vs Houston Alexander
Shogun vs Wandi – they will NEVER fight each other.
Yes, this scenario does have Houston being fed to the wolves/taking a HUGE step up in competition but they guy is what, 36 years old. He ain’t going to be around forever. The UFC might as well take advantage of the tear he’s been on. Beside, what MMA fan in the world wouldn’t want to see Houston The Assassin Alexander against The Axe Murderer Wanderlei Silva.
And to answer the rest of your question, if Forrest loses to Shogun, who should he face? Wilson Gouveia. Wilson had been dominating lower level opponents on the undercard. He’s ready to take a step up in competition. (I typed this originally before Lambert dropped out of the fight with Gouveia – although it should have no impact because I do NOT see a last minute replacement beating Wilson Gouveia)
But unfortunately, my work day is over, so I won’t be able to respond until tomorrow morning.
Show me some ideas for the LHW division!
alright cote, i agree that terry martin is pretty one dimensional fighter, but so are you, and he’s better at it than you are, so relax on the call outs before you get ktfo…
Didn’t Leben already kick Cote’s ass? Why would he want more of that indignity?
Famous last words.
that would be a great match up.
Terry Martin is like so many of these young cats. If their mouth was a big as their ability they would really be someone. These young guys need to watch an interview with Randy Coture to learn how to act and how to represent the sport in a positve light. Randy is not loved by all for just his fighting ability. Long time UFC fans have learned that most often the toughest guys are the ones who keep their mouths shut. It’s the quite guy you need to be afaid of not the guy telling you how tough he is.
i said eventually will get a title shot
alright cote, i agree that terry martin is pretty one dimensional fighter, but so are you, and he’s better at it than you are, so relax on the call outs before you get ktfo…
Cote has never been KOed, he has an iron chin. Tito couldn’t hurt him so I doubt Martin can. I think Cotes more technical striking will win this fight. Same goes for Lebin if he wins.If Cote is a one dimetional boxer, than Grove should have been able to take it to the ground and finish him.
I can’t believe that Cote would call out anyone, the guy knocks out Kendall Grove and he thinks hes tough shit. What is that?
Violent Mike: U c the LHW division the see as I do. I love the scenario of Wandy vs. Alexander winner gets Liddell asuming that he beats Jardine. Its alot 100% certain that Wanderlei wont fight Shogun even if its for the title. Wandy held the title in Pride for 5 years, for atleast 2 of those years Shogun was doinating and deserved a title shot, but wouldn’t fight Wanderlei. Wandy said recentely about the UFC that he wont fight Shogun becasue “its Shogun’s time now”. I can respect that!
Wilson is a very tough but overlooked fighter. I also think that he is ready for a step up in copetition.
Lets specualte on Dan Henderson. Whats next?
Possibilities at 205:
Wanderlie vs. Henderson 3
Henderson vs. Chuck Liddell (but wandy is the 1st top 5 fighter in line for a atch with chuck)
Henderson vs. Shogun (Months ago, Shogun said that he wanted a piece of Henderson if he didnt give Wanderlei a reatch right away)
Possibilities at 185:
Henderson vs. Okami
Henderson vs. Rich Franklin (which would be more appealing if it happened b4 Anderson Silva destroys him again)
Henderson vs. Anderson Silva to Unify the 185 lb title. I think Henderson put on a strong performance that would justify Dana giving him a title shot right away to unify 185 lb title.
Henderson is the only person signed to the UFC that can beat Anderson Silva right now.
Dan Henderson has one fight left on his current deal, I will guarentee that loosing this past weekends fight to Rampage
will in no way cause Henderson to fight against lessor competition. I’m expecting Hendersons next match to b against a top 5 opponent. I’m just not sure what division he will fight in.
Cote is gonna have to do more than beat Kendal Grove b4 I start talking about him. I hope he fights against another slugger next, because that is the only time when I’m excited to c Cote.
The winner of the Martin vs. Leiben fight would make a great next opponent. He hates Martin, Leiben already beat him (Im sure Cote wants the rematch).
Cote Sucks! Martin would work him over easily.
When Luigi Fiorevanti fighting next. He is an exciting fighter who brings it. I know he lost to Fitch, but who hasn’t.
Through them in against eachother. If Martin wins against Leben Why Not let both these second tier fighters go. Neither one of them will ever win a title, unless it’s in the WEC
I can’t believe that Cote would call out anyone, the guy knocks out Kendall Grove and he thinks hes tough shit. What is that?
Yea man true dat. Why does Cote think he is so good for knocking out Kendall who has a weak chin and he hit him in the back of the head anyways.
Go easy on these guys. All I see is two cats having a good time at work. A little side-competition is harmless. Both Cote and Martin are coming off popular wins and both feel pretty good about themselves. Well, good for them! For the first time, they are getting a little press, and using it. It ain’t easy maintaining a livelihood in mma. Most people hate their Effing jobs. Let these guys have their fun by calling each other out. I think it’s awesome. (Granted, if they were each more well-rounded, etc etc etc..)..
AND, in all honesty, why do they need to “represent” the sport outside the octagon? Lately, the sport is rife with contradiction and scandal. Should they represent that? If you’re an accountant, do you represent your firm outside the office? People should represent themselves, with or without pride. I love MMA, but it is not HOLY.
Okay, maybe it is holy.
forrest or jardine get a title shot before evans?
you guys are pretty funny
I don’t care what happens so long as I get my long promised Chuck v Wandy fight…..I’ve been waiting 3 years and a lot of guys have been waiting for lik 6 years. IT’S TIME!!!

well that was kendall’s downfall, he thought he could stand there and trade with cote and win the fight, he got over confident in his stand up…as far as cote having an iron chin because tito couldn’t hurt him, well thats just funny, terry martin has a lot more power than tito ortiz does on the feet, thats obvious, cote is in trouble…
When Luigi Fiorevanti fighting next. He is an exciting fighter who brings it. I know he lost to Fitch, but who hasn’t.
true, i like luigi, i’d like to see him fight again too
Good for you Cote, a true businessman. He pulls out a solid UFC win by knocking out Kendall and now he’s calling out names. The tried and true formula to get into the minds of the fans.
I’m calling it now. Martin breaks Cote’s cheek bone or orbital.
A repeat Leben/Cote would be good to watch.
totally agree with cote here.. don’t think terry martin is good, but i think he’s good matchup against leben. i think cote would take this guy to school

i also think this is a great comment.. good on ya for a seein’ it the way it is
no way winner gets a title shot,!!..I hope this bout happens’
I think with Cote’s recent improvement, and upset over Grove, he could KO or TKO Martin…
Cote is right,,Martin is one di-mentional, but thats not to say Cote is kinda one di-ment aswell?
But i think Cote is improving more and more at all around mma, and would win the fight, his boxing is great and i agree with him that he could keep the distance with his boxing background..
Cant wait till it’s official!!!!
Cote has about no reason to call out anyone in the UFC. he is what 2-2?
Outside of Rich, who is worthy of a title shot @ 185? Im willing to bet Dana is gonna throw a lot of money at Henderson to have him drop down.
you know what i think about the lhw division
dsi_chameleon lhw champion by 2013
MARK MY WORDS, absolutely not joking
IMO Patrick Cote is a good fighter, but there so many good and very good fighters in his division in UFC… It will be very difficult for him
http://www.fightway.fr
John and Violent Mike your conversation is much more appealing than the one that is currently highlighting this thread. I don’t mean to chim in but I like all the senarios that you have put forward.
I do however think that Hendo will move down to 185. I also agree that he is the only 185er in the UFC that can defeat Silva.
I think Henderson should move down. It would put some unbelievable competition in probably the thinest division in the UFC right now.
Great posts guys.
I think a big reason that Wanderlie doesn’t want to fight shogun is because they trained together. I believe Wandi was one of the corner men when Shogun broke his arm against Mark Coleman. That was a nasty thing to watch.
Interesting though because I think that is where the Rampage and Wanderlie bad blood began.
cote is the man !!! and you all know it
Cote really impressed me against Grove. He seems to be a very talented fighter. I will expect a win his next bout as well.
cote is the man !!! and you all know it
He is – he had a bad stretch of luck for a while, but he is a topnotch fighter, and soon you will a see that.

They are more then training partners. Wanderlei grew up training wit Murilo “Ninja” Rua, who is Shoguns older brother. Ninja and wanderlei were very close, so naturally wanderlei is like an older brother to Shogun. They are like family. Honestly I can respect that, and I dont mind not seeing them fight each other because I already know what would happen, Shogun would win.

MMAfan1981: I dont want you or anyone else to think me and Violent Mike are having exclusive conversaqtions. I’d be happy to hear anyone’s opinion as long as its an informed opinion. The reason I call mike out is because I am familiar with his comments. I know he tells it like it is and doesn’t show favoritism to his favorite fighters. MMAfan1981, you are more then welcome in joining in on the discussions everytime. As time goes by, I get familiar with other peoples posts and start to value other peoples opinions. I just try to block out all the idiots like Mccena.
I agree with you completely that the 185 lb division is in desperate need of Henderson but I also would like to c Henderson vs Wanderlei Silva part 3 at 205 lbs.
Patrik Cote seems to be kind of stubborn in my opinion. I mean how can he have trained with GSP for years, and still be so damn one dimensional. We get it Cote, u hit hard, but what the hell are u gonna do when u r laying on your back trying to defend yourself? wheres the Ju jits? wheres the wrestling? He has a long ways to go b4 becomming a complete mixed martial artist.
I know if I trained with Georges St. Pierre for years, I woulda Absorbed everything he ever told me like a damn sponge. It makes no sense that he is still this one dimensional. I mean he’s been fighting in the UFC since UFC 50: The war of 2004, its 3 years later and I have seen NO improvement whatesoever out of him. I’m sorry but I cannot respect that!
Marcus davis gets better everytime in the Octagon, Cote hasnt grown one bit as a fighter. There is something seriously wrong with that!
Cote, I never noticed Terry as a big mouth, sounds like you got a bigger mouth than him. If there’s a match up between you and him, Terry’s gonna knock your mouth out.
I wish Denis Kang would get into the mix and knock some dudes out. He would definitely add another dimension to the top of the middleweight division.
I wish Denis Kang would get into the mix and knock some dudes out. He would definitely add another dimension to the top of the middleweight division.
Yeh, the UFC needs to get their hands on as many top 10 185 lb fighters as they can. If the next TUF season isn’t about Middleweights, then there is something seriously wrong with the UFC decision makers.
Kang would be a great addition to that division. zuffa owns the WEC, so y the hell do they have Paulo Filho fighting in the WEC, when the UFC is in desperate need of a high caliber 185 lb fighter like him?
Also Dana and Lindland need to kiss and make up because he is at the top of the 185 ladder, and he is needed in the division.
Imagine how much better the 185 lb division would be if we had:
Anderson Silva
Dan Henderson
Paulo Filho
Dennis Kang
Matt Lindland
Okami
Bisping (cutting weight down to 185)
Rich Franklin
Nate Marquardt (even tho he was completely outclasses by silva, then again who isnt)
That would be a decent division. Filho is already a ZUFFA employee, so there should be no trouble getting him over to the UFC
Dennis Kang, last I herd of him was at BODOG, we gotta get him
Matt Lindland has fought in the UFC b4, Dana and him need to bite their tongues and get a deal done (I doubt it will happen though)
Has anyone herd of any rumors on who Okami’s next opponent will be?
Has anyone herd of any rumors on who Okami’s next opponent will be?
Jason MacDonald at UFC 77.

Very true I didn’t even think about Lindland. I mean seriously why is White not pushing for him to come to the UFC? Did they have a falling out or something? To have Filho and not bring him to the UFC is ridiculous.
That list would definitely be a stacked 185lb roster.
John you need to check out http://www.mmaplayground.com this is a really cool site for UFC fans that are knowledgeable about the sport. It shows a lot of the future pairings for events up to UFC 77. They should have 78 up there soon I would imagine. Plus they have contests where you pick the fights: who is going to win, how they are going to end, and in what round, etc. They have seasons of 10 UFC events and who ever has the most points racked up actually wins money. It is a pretty neat little site. You can also wager fake money for every fight. You may already know about it but I thought I would put that out there.

Thanks for writing this John. I have been super buisy at work today, and really didn’t have much time to surf the site much today. Of course I feel the same way… And I appologize if it appeared that I was trying to have a 1 on 1 conversation – I was actually hoping to get MORE opinions on the LHW division.
MMAfan1981, I initially wrote it to John because he had asked me the question in an older thread, and I wasn’t sure if he would read it or not, so I also put it into a newer thread. Especially since I didn’t think too many people care about the predator…lol, j/k

I did the exact same thing. I have gone downhill a little bit because of the Grove/Cote fight. Although I did miss the Kongo/CroCop fight.
What do you think about that fight? I thought that CroCop took the first but then definitely lost the 2nd and 3rd. The first round was close but with the take down and the mount I had to give it to CroCop. You never know if the fight would have gone 1 min longer CroCop may have stopped it. I doubt it but he was in the mount and beginning to throw some punches from the top position.
Exactly the same as I had the fight.
Round 1: Cro Cop
Round 2: Kongo
Round 3: Kongo
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!
Can you imagine if this fight took place in Croatia? Cro Cop would have won a unanimous decision 30-25 across the board. If Bisping gets 29-28 for his performance in England, I’d say that’s about right for CroCop in Croatia… I REALLY HOPE that this isn’t what this sport has come to, but this Bisping/Hamill fight has me really upset.

I hear ya. I was sitting at home thinking Bisping just got his first lose and to his fellow TUF 3 opponent. I was smiling from ear to ear. Then I hear Bisping’s name and I started laughing at the t.v. I couldn’t believe it.
The thing I thought was the best was Bisping’s deminor before the results. You could tell he looked defeated. When they called his name it looked like he had just won the lottery. “I can’t believe it, I can’t believe it!!!!!!!!!” Running around the ring and then saying Hamill should go back to wrestling. That was disgusting. I can’t wait to hear his first statement after the fight knowing about 90% of the people who watched that fight thought that he lost. I bet he says something like “The judges scored the fight in my favor so there is nothing I can do about it. I know I won that fight fair and square.”
When do you think CroCop broke his rib? You could tell his aggression went way down after the first round. I mean he pushed the action in the first no doubt.
I have to take back what I said in my previous post about CroCop maybe stopping the fight in the first. Kongo did reverse the mount right at the end of the round.

Also, about Lindland, I forget where I herd this, but it was an interview with Lindland and he said, that back when Lindland was fighting in the UFC, Dana was pushing for Rich Franklin (one of Dana’s posterboys) to be champion. Lindland said that since he would have crushed Rich, Dana wouldnt let him fight Rich or something like that. Thats what the falling out between him and Dana was about. Enough with the baby shit between Dana and fighters. Grow up Dana, Im sick of hearing about his personal problems with fighters.
Just get me everysingle top 10 fighter in the world. He acts petty sometimes.

That makes total sense. I figure that is why they don’t have Paulo in the UFC yet.
Does anyone have a link to where i can see Cote’ beating Kendall Grove up???
