Wilson Gouveia will be unable to fight Jason Lambert at UFC 76: “Knockout” on September 22 because he suffered a severe nose break training for the light heavyweight bout, according to UFC.com.

Yesterday we passed along incorrect news that it was Lambert who sustained the injury when in fact it was Gouveia. Apologies for any confusion.

With the pay-per-view (PPV) event less than two weeks away, the organization has decided to go with just eight fights on the card instead of the usual nine. In addition, the 205-pound showdown will be rescheduled “in the future.”

Lambert was looking to build off his impressive technical knockout victory over Renato “Babalu” Sobral at UFC 68 back in March. He’s almost perfect (4-1) inside the Octagon, losing to Rashad Evans via knockout at UFC 63 last year. Gouveia was in search of his fourth-straight UFC win after dropping his debut to Keith Jardine at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3 Finale in 2006.

This sux. I’m a big Lambert fan. After his beat down of Babs, I couldn’t believe he was going to be on the undercard anyway.

It would have been am undercard anywho, no difference. This fight would have gotten on of these guys in to mid-tier level a la Ryoto Machida and Keith Jardine. It’s unfortunate but the big boys at 205 lbs. are far and beyond Lambert or Gouveia so at the end of the day does it matter ?

this sucks i am going, it’s not fair i shell out money for 8 damm fights instead of 9. they better throw someone in there to fight gouveia fast, they have lots of guys to do it, and in the past there have been guys that filled in on moments notice.

I agree bryant, they’ll find someone to throw in there. There is just too many guys out there that would jump at this even without the right time for training.

Lambert would have gotten completely dominated by Wilson Gouveia. Wilson is on a whole other level. He doesn’t even try, and he still overwhelms his opponents. He has skills. Wilson Gouveia is someone that the LHW’s better be paying attention to!

I disagree, I think Lamberts came a long way. Look at what he did to Babs. Are saying Babs is (or was, now that his out) not one of the top guys?

they should throw a TUF Alumn in there, just so Wilson does not go Cold turkey.
Get somebody like a Mike Nickels to take the fight on such short time, or heck, Ross Pointon. Get him to come back =p He will fight anyone, I just dont want to see Wilson go cold turkey.

that sucks, i was interested in that fight, i think both guys are pretty good fighters, i was curious to see what lambert was gonna do after messing up babalu, and i’ve always liked gouveia, i think that was gonna be a very good fight…

anyways i was looking forWARD in the fight any other pay per view it probably would have been a main card event, i has lambert winning the fight, gouveia is good and all, but i think with the extra boost of momentum and confindence in lambert beating babalu that he would win by decision

ufc.com says that Gouveia is the one who’s injured, not Lambert.

If Bisping plans on staying at 205, I would love to c Wilson Gouveia as his next opponent.

Sucks to see lambert out. This guy gives you everything on every fight. Alot of the reason why he gets better each time we see him.

Um, it wasn’t Lambert who broke his nose. It was Gouveia…

according to ufc.com gouveia is the one who suffered a broken nose. Also this fight card will now only feature 8 bouts instead of 9. They also said this fight will happen at a later time.

This story is a mistake, it is Wilson that is out not Lambert. Savage was at ATT when they reported this.

too bad.. wilson was a good matchup for an overrated fighter in lambert… still think gouveia would win the fight, but probably a good chance for lambert to really make it through the ranks. most of these guys aren’t close to the top of the chain at 205. i think gouviea is the road block to the top of the division. too bad i’d like to see this fight.. this is one i might not be right at

Im pretty sure this fight would have made the card as a fill in. Sucks… Lambert has talent… and if your nose is broken bad enough to require as much time as I’ve heard (4monthes?) He might not be the same breathing after this… or might be subject to more shatter.

Lambert should really drop down to MW. I mean all he has to do is train and give a shit about what he looks like! He is the fattest person in the UFC including the HW’s and weighs in at like 202lbs. What a chubby fool…
