Wilson Gouveia will be unable to fight Jason Lambert at UFC 76: "Knockout" on September 22 because he suffered a severe nose break training for the light heavyweight bout, according to UFC.com.
Yesterday we passed along incorrect news that it was Lambert who sustained the injury when in fact it was Gouveia. Apologies for any confusion.
With the pay-per-view (PPV) event less than two weeks away, the organization has decided to go with just eight fights on the card instead of the usual nine. In addition, the 205-pound showdown will be rescheduled "in the future."
Lambert was looking to build off his impressive technical knockout victory over Renato "Babalu" Sobral at UFC 68 back in March. He's almost perfect (4-1) inside the Octagon, losing to Rashad Evans via knockout at UFC 63 last year. Gouveia was in search of his fourth-straight UFC win after dropping his debut to Keith Jardine at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3 Finale in 2006.
