mike swick
The welterweight debut of Mike Swick at UFC Fight Night 11 on September 19 is on hold — “Quick” injured his ribs during training and will not be ready for the 170-pound showdown with Jonathan Goulet.

Dustin Hazelett, according to FightNetwork.com, has been tapped as his replacement to face the Canadian.

Here’s a snip:

“[Hazelett] has been offered a slot … filling in for an incapacitated Mike Swick, who injured his ribs during training, according to his coach Bob Cook. Goulet’s manager Ken Pavia confirmed the match-up was in negotiations Sunday, and that his side was receptive to the offer.”

This is the latest blow to the star power on the Spike television special — Spencer Fisher had to pull out of his fight with Din Thomas last month because of a staph infection.

However, Hazelett is a solid fighter who trains out of the Jorge Gurgel Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Ohio. He’s a Brazilian jiu-jistu specialist who is riding a two-fight win streak inside the Octagon (Diego Saraiva and Stevie Lynch).

The lone Blemish on his UFC record is a submission loss in his debut to Tony DeSouza in October 2006.

Lightweights Kenny Florian and Din Thomas will headline UFC Fight Night 11, which takes place from The Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will air on Spike at 9 p.m. ET, leading into the season premiere of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6.

Damn going to have to change my prediction for that fight. Oh well least there is still time. Thankfully I didn’t have to change any predictions for the WEC card. http://www.pickmmafights.com

Swick is a fun fighter to watch, but Dustin Hazelett is as well. Dustin has some really good BJJ and he can stand up and strike.

I see Dustin winning via decision in an exciting match.

Personally, I would prefer to c one of the prelims instead.

Tell me why Dustin Hazelett/Johnathan Goulet match should not be aired?

Is it because you have never seen a Dustin Hazelett fight? Probably. Dustin Hazelett has been needed some tv exposure, and now on the big stage he finally can. Dustin is an exciting fighter.

I want to see the return of Nate Quarry as well, but Dustin has worked very hard to get this shot and national exposure.

I’m sure he has worked hard but he has done nothing to “WOW” me yet. As far as the Quarry and Sell fight this is just a damn near career killer for Pete, he lost this fight before. He needs to step down to another league and get some Ws in his column.

1st off NC - 17 u have seen my posts enough to know that I don’t comment on situations that I do not know about. U r gonna try to tell me that Hazleett who “works soo hard” deserves to replace swick who was the co-main event fighter. Have u lost your minds. I usually enjoy your posts, but today I dunno what u r thrinking. Hazlettes has beaten who? Stevie lynch? Diego sariava? and u wanna replace swick, who was the headliner of the co-main event with Hazelette? Thats ridiculous. He is 2 - 1 in the UFC loosing to desouza. Grant it he is only 21 years old, and was undefeated in his pre UFC career, this kid is a nobody in the UFC right now and belongs on the prelims.

170 lbs.: Thiago Alves (11-3) vs. Kuniyoshi Hironaka (11-3)*
185 lbs.: Nate Quarry (8-2) vs. Pete Sell (7-3)
155 lbs.: Leonard Garcia (10-2) vs. Cole Miller (12-2)
170 lbs.: Luke Cummo (5-4) vs. Edilberto “Crocota” de Oliveira (8-1-1)*
155 lbs.: Gray Maynard (2-0) vs. Joe Veres (4-1)

I would rather c any one of these fights instead of Hazlette vs. Guolet (with the exception of maybe the cummo fight)

That is the most ridiculous statement I have herd on here all day…. NC-17, u should be proud!

Pete sell has had a rough career, with plentty of ups and downs. However not too long ago he was envolved in one of the top 10 mma fights of all time (vs. scott smith). What the hell has your boy Hazlenutt done to deserve the shot?

If they wanna juice it up but Karo vs Goulet. Promise the match up vs the loser of the title fight Serra or Hughes.

BINGO That works for me.

they are replacing Mike swick with Dustin Hazlette. I dont want that too be aired, to many interesting matches in the prelims that I would rather see instead of Guolet vs. Hazlette. Swick was the mainfighter in a co-main event and his opponant Guolet was nothing special to begin with. you cant replace Swick with Hazelette and sell it as the co-main event. I know I would rather c the Nate quarry vs. Sell, alves vs. Hironaka, and even the cole miller vs. leanord garcia fight instead of Goulet vs. Hazelette.

I saw Karo walking around in Mandalay Bay after UFC 74 and asked him who he’s fighting next. He said “maybe Mach Sakurai”, so pretty much exactly what Mania posted a little while back. If that goes down, that’s one I really want to see.

Sakurai fought in UFC 36 - Worlds Collide where he lost to Hughes via TKO. From what I know, he wasn’t in the Ultimate Japan cards.

This sucks. I hate when fighers get injured this close to a fight, especially when its one of the bigger names on the card. Goulet/Hazlett is a fight that I do NOT want to see. I agree with the people saying that they should show Quarry/Sell. I also want to see Leonard Garcia vs Cole Miller and I’d even rather see the Luke Cummo fight against a nobody.
