On nickname:
“My old manager told the ring announcer (to introduce me as The Count). I said no at first, but I’m actually a Count in Poland (grandfather was a Polish Count). It embarrasses me a little bit. I made the mistake of telling someone at school and I was subsequently made fun of.”
On Hamill:
“I believe the experience will give me an edge. I’m much more of a well-rounded martial artist. I trained with (Hamill) extensively. He’s a good wrestler, but not much of an MMAer. And I think I’ve faced much better competition than him…. In lots of my fights I’ve knocked them out in the first round. That’s my specialty. I have that killer instinct. Fingers crossed, hopefully I can do it again.”
– British UFC Light Heavyweight Michael Bisping tells SportsNet.ca about the meaning behind his nickname, as well as discuss his upcoming fight with castmate on The Ulttimate Fighter, Matt Hamill, at UFC 75: “Champion vs. Champion” on September 8 from the O2 Arena in London, England.

I like the Count, but I think Hamill”s going to take him down and overwelm him with ground and pound. I don’t think Bisping can keep it standing.
Count Chocula is about all this fool will be after he fights someone in the top 10 list of the division.
not gonna happen, mike bisping is a very good fighter, very well rounded. although his wrestling is probably his worst part of his game he has very underrated juijitsu, hes dangerous of his back. He’ll end up keeping it standing and picking apart Hamill with strikes. Hamill is too one dimensional to beat Bisping. I would like to see Bisping against Rashad… then i think we would see how good both fighters really are.
Bisping is going to take Hamill apart on his feet. If Hamill somehow manages a takedown Bisping will tap him. Hamill is going to lose badly, and there is nothing Danny Abbadi can do to stop it.
I really like both fighters. I know Hamill is obviously a lot better wrestler, but I don’t think he’ll take Bisping down. I see this being a stand up war (one sided), for all of about 30 seconds with Bisping winning by brutal KO.
Danny Abbadi…. hahahahaha. He can give Hamill a big loving hug after Hamill wakes up? (due to a first round KO, high-kick)
No way Bisping pulls a “Kendal Grove”. When the UFC gives him a weak opponent at least he rolls right thru them. If Hamil takes it to the ground, he will get submitted by the Count.
Mattj: U r right his ju jitsu is better than a lot of people give him credit for. I also believe that bisping can easily finish Hamil from off his back.
If Bisping wins he should either move down to 185 (like Rich Franklin did), or he should fight and beat the hell out of Tito!
I say Tito because Bisping actually wants to fight tougher competition and Tito is the guy wit the biggest name that Bisping is capable of beating at this point in his career.
Dana, Bisping wants to fight, stop holding him back to protect him so he can take over England.
What Dana White needs to understand is when u have a young fighter its really not about wins and losses. Huerta’s record is perfect, does anyone care though. Dana thinks that to win over fans, he has to keep Bispings record perfect. I dont care if Bispimg wins or looses. If he fights say liddell and looses, but puts up a war, Im happy wit that. Losses gain experience, which is the only aspect missing from Bispings game.
I would rather c:
Bisping fight hard and tough against Shogun and loose, than to
see
Bisping beat the crap outta Hamil. I Ko win over Hamil does nothing. The fight against Hamil can only hurt him. He is expected to win and win big against Hamil. A lackluster performance or a loss against Hamil would b devestating to Bispings career.
If Shogun KO’s him, but Bisping fights good and gains experience, no one will hold it against him.
Dana your doing a diservice to a young Talented fighter like Bisping, by Holding him back. He has had his warm up fights, now its time to put him thru the fire.
He will not take his game to the next level until he gets:
“Baptized by Fire”
and a lot of you know what that means!
I hope Bisping comes out swinging and catches this kid. don’t get me wrong, Hammil is a great wrestler but he doesn’t seem to be to well rounded and he also seems way “cockier” than hughes or anyone in MMA
I could see Bisping Knocking him out, or submitting him from his back. During their training together on TUF, Bisping used to submitt him all the time (remember Hamil was too cocky to tap, so he got his elbow messed up)
Hamil just doesnt have the tools, he is like koschek 2 years ago. I’ll tell you one thing: Hamill has a tendency to not keep his hands up, if thats the case Bisping will clip him clean for a KO.
Hamil has no business trying to stand toe to toe wit the count, However, I could c Hamil’s cocky personality wanting to stand n trade, if that happens LIGHTS OUT HAMIL!
john - totally agree with everything - ive seen bisping fight in cage rage and hes advanced alot since then, even 2 years ago bisping would beat todays hamil.
Its true that we want to see him tested against a top 10 LHW a loss to a top 10 wouldnt set him back at all - i say Bisping V Forrest would be a good war for the fans
Bisping v hamil - Bisping 2nd round stoppage by strikes.
Dang, Bisping ain’t that good. Hamill is going to man handle him. Who has Bisping actually KOed and when I say KO, I mean put them on their ass asleep, no one. His fights have been stopped from strikes. He’s a brawler, he comes swinging away. Hamill can take a shot and I’m sure he can take any shot Bisping throws at him. Hamill will clinch, take him down and overwelm him with strength and pound him out.
John, I agree with you 100%. These fighters need to fight really good, established veterans. We want to see wars, not one sided fights. I would love to see Bisping vs Tito. That would be a great match. I think that Bisping would be able to hold his own with many of the top LW’s but if he decides to drop to MW, which I hope he does, I see him becoming champ within a few fights.

Dana needs to realize that we dont need fighters to be undefeated, its unrealistic to even expect that in today’s mma.
Bisping always had a problem wit Tito (Showing hamil favoritism), I say scratch the Rashad vs. Tito match and make it Bisping vs. Tito, and I really believe that Bisping would win.
Having an undefeated record is an amazing accomplishment, but if you fight scrubs who cares? I can have an undefeated recond if I fought 12 year old girls, but would that make me a great fighter? Possibly, depending on how huge the girls are, but most likely not. The undefeated fighters are ready for challenges and I can’t wait to see them in a war. Hopefully Rashad will beat Tito, that way when Bisping KO’s Hamill they can fight each other. Bisping will be on a streak, but Tito is such a big name that he can fight him even after a loss.
Bisping 2nd Rnd TKO
A lot of people here mentioning The Hammer’s ground ability. I’ve always thought Sinosic was pretty good and he could not finish Bisping on the ground.

My Point exactly… and u right about tito’s name being so big that he could b a big name even after a couple more losses.
To b Honest, I think Rashad will beat Tito next time they fight. Rashad danced around a lot and that had to do with being intimadated by Tito’s big name, In the last 7 or so minutes, when Rashad finally got his comfortable and actually realized that he can hang wit Tito, he started to fight, and looked like the better fighter. If that were a 5 rd fight instead of a 3rd fight, I believe Rashad would have won.
Next time they Fight, Rashad wont waste time dancing around so much. he will b much more confident than he was in their 1st fight. Consequently I c Rashad letting loose and beating Tito.
I alwas knew of Rashads great wrestling credentials, but I was
surprised ot c how hard of a time Tito was having, and Tito was surprised also.
Tito had a look in his eyes like “Oh shit, this kid is for real” Rashad knows it, and will b more confident, letting it all hang out, and win. Mark my words.
I hope Bisping knocks him out in the first round, like he said he would. Hamill just isnt much fun to watch.

Good point.
We have to c how he fights after cutting all that weight, but I believe moving down to 185 is in his best interest. The MW division is weak, I think Bisping could beat many of the top ones. He can beat Mcdonald and he’s in the top part of the division. It will take a while for him to b able ot beat Anderson, but with a little more experience I could c him holding his own against a mentally rattled Rich Franklin.
Does anyone know whether Bisping has ever fought at 185 in other organizations?
Hamill-win-1st round stoppage from strikes
this is interesting - i wonder how matt’s gonna fight and he’s not training in tito’s camp anymore so he may throw some new moves that bisping never thought he would, he may even stand up and box - i like bisping too but if hamill takes him to the ground he’s in trouble cuz hamill is strong and tough to submit by defense.

Bisping vs Tito would be an interesting match. He would NOT walk right thru Tito, no way. Bisping is one of the smaller LHW’s, and Tito is just about the biggest. Bisping’s weakest aspect of his game is his wrestling, and fighting from his back. What are Tito’s two strong points? Wresting and Ground and Pound. I think that this would make for a very interesting fight. Rashad was able to hang with Tito because of his outstanding wrestling. If they were to ever fight, if Bisping isn’t able to KO Tito at the beginning of the rounds, I see Tito dominating the fight via GnP stoppage.
PS I HATE Tito Ortiz

Great write up GriffinFan. I have used a very similar example in the past, but I think I was beating up on at 5th grade boys gym class to get me my undefeated record!
I can’t remember right now which MMA great said “If you are undefeated, that only means that you haven’t fought anybody good yet.” I think it was Bas Rutten, but I may very well be mistaken. Anyone remember who said that.

I don’t think you actually fought at 185, but I believe he kickboxed at 195. Can someone from the UK please confirm?
As far as I’m aware the lightest Bisping has ever fought in an mma bout is 199 lbs.
At 185 he’d be pretty big for the division, tough for him as he likes his beer lol.
I’d like to see him whup Rory Singer, then Kendall, then J-mac or Okami. Okami would be the toughest.
Hamill-win-1st round stoppage from strikes
Do you have any idea how many of his trademark lady-punches Hamill would have to throw to get a stoppage?
Hamill-win-1st round stoppage from strikes
I haven’t laughed that hard in a while, thanks!
The only way I see Matt Hamill ever improving his strikes, is if he took up bowling and was able to knock down every pin every now and then…

He could always take up pitching. I think he could be the closer for the Devil Rays right now.

Yeh it was Bas,
Hey Mike: what r your thoughts on Rashad vs. Tito 2
Do u kno if Bisping has ever fought at 185

Yeh I agree, I want him to smash Rory “the nurse” singer into retirement, Then beat up on Jason McDonald.
Ur right, Okami would present the biggest challenge for bisping cuz Okami is freakishly strong. We wont even mention Anderson Silva cuz we all know he aint ready for him yet.
Doubt Dana would let Kendal n Bisping square off at this point in their careers, although it would be interesting.
He should win this fight. Hamill should of never left Team Punishment
If Bisping was to drop to MW and fight Okami, I think Bisping would destroy Okami. Okami hasn’t showed me much in any of his matches. I am yet to be impressed.
If Bisping was to drop to MW and fight Okami, I think Bisping would destroy Okami. Okami hasn’t showed me much in any of his matches. I am yet to be impressed.
I’m a big fan of MB, but Okami is really good, don’t base it just on his bout with Franklin. Yushin is a slow starter and likes to feel his way into a bout. Pride rules let you do that in the first round but the UFC is a whole different animal.
If Okami Franklin was a 5 rounder I think Okami would have pulled it off. If he can get used to starting with a better tempo and take the centre of the octagon he’ll sneak his share of the boring rounds.
Here’s the thing, Franklin did nothing to Okami in rd1 and 2 but they were 10-9 for him as he took the centre of the octagon and put Okami on the back foot with feints. Octagon control and a greater willingness to engage gave Rich that one. Okami clearly won the third.
Bisping Okami would be a great fight.

go say that to hs face. people hate on bisping..WHY??

HAHAHAHAH..YEAH RIGHT..
Hamill is a bad fighter . Boring to watch and hes just plain crap when it comes to real mma. GO JOIN THE WWE HAMILL.
A friend of mine told me that Matt Hamill has acquired other skill sets, which includes BJJ. His stand up skill should improve as well, from his sparring partner who is a 3x national boxing champion Kimdu Bethel. So this should be an interesting fight to see. I’m pulling for the underrated and underdog Matt Hamill.

I predict that Bisping will win by submission.
All people here are calling Matt hamill a bad fighter who relies on his wrestling, do NOT forget that he have only trained MMA for about a year now, i think that matt hamill in the future will go really far, and if he would have trainer and fought for the same amount of time that bisping, he would easily win.. he is extremly strong and improving ALOT! i do think that bisping will win this one, but everything can happen in the UFC, if matt takes him down i think he could overwhelm bisping and open a big cut or something that stops the fight, but to do it with a KO or something won’t happen.
bisping got his ass kicked tonight. the judges that gave him the edge should be investigated. the hammer dominated the first 2 rounds and pushed the third. this decision is a disgrace. bisping must be on drugs to suggest theat hamill should go back to wrestling after bisping just got schooled. what a typical british b$tch.
Bisping/Hamill fight was so fixed. Hamill clearly led the whole fight. Funny how the fighter from England ended up with the win. Very disappointed in the judges and the UFC.
Nicole… very well put, I could not have said it better myself.
Does anyone except for 2 judges in England think Bisping won? I would really like to know.
I have never - repeat: NEVER - written about any T.V show or sporting event or any thing else like a blog in the past but the fight between Bisping and Hamill completely made me get right to my computer and express my extreme disappointment. It completely undermined my opinion of fairness in the UFC. I had thought that the UFC was attempting to legitimize mixed martial arts and seemed to take pride in professional conduct. However, that particular fight was judged so completely fixed that I no longer will purchase the fights and, in fact, will use every resource available to discourage others from purchasing it (blogs, reviews, etc…) until the UFC comes out into the open and condems the fairness of that fight. Bisping (no matter how much I actually like him) absolutely lost the first two and the third one was 50/50 at best - how could any legitimate judge choose Bisping!? What do you think????
Let’s hit them “below the belt” and everyone refuse to pay for any pay-per-view events until Dana White himself comes out and admits and apologizes for the judges mistake of the Hamill vs Bisping fight! Weed out the bad ones before another mistake is made. Any one willing to stand up like a man with me? R U listening Dana????
I am with you on this one. Dana are you listening? I am very happy that 100% of all blogs I have read are in agreement. Can you believe that? I heard booing by the brits even. I wonder what their blogs say. How embarrassing for them. It will really change my mind about Dana and UFC if they sweep this one under the rug. I hope everyone doesn’t wake up Monday and forget all about this. Let’s keep on until something happens to right this wrong or someone at least addresses this. They sure didn’t say a peep Sat. nite. I hope it was because they were in such shock that they did not know what to do or say.
Bisping 29-28. Watch the fight again with both eyes open and sober.
