Season six of the hit UFC mixed martial arts reality show, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), is set to debut on Wednesday, September 19, at 11 p.m. ET on the Spike television network.
As we’ve been telling you for months now, there will be 16 welterweight fighters competing in this tournament and the two coaches are UFC Welterweight Champion, Matt Serra, and former 170-pound titleholder, Matt Hughes.
For more on the TUF 6 assistant coaches such as Robbie Lawler click here.
There’s been rumors here and there about the fighters who will actually compete on the show. Well, Dave Meltzer has an article in the Los Angeles Times that details the various participants.
Here’s the official list:
(Note: Check out the article for brief descriptions on each fighter)
Matt Arroyo
Daniel Barrera
Blake Bowman
Mac Danzig
Paul Georgieff
Richie Hightower
John Kolosci
Troy Mandaloniz
Billy Miles
Roman Mitchyan
Dorian Price
Jared Rollins
Ben Saunders
Joe Scarola
George Sotiropoulis
Tommy Speer
Taping for the show is already complete. And the two finalists will battle it out at the TUF 6 Finale on December 8 from Las Vegas, Nevada, to determine the winner.
In addition, TUF 6 coaches Matt Serra and Matt Hughes will clash in a championship match up a few weeks later on New Year’s Eve weekend.
Here’s a snip from Serra:
“Me and Matt Hughes, we don’t get along. I was looking forward to fighting him anyway because I don’t like him. I think he’s an arrogant jerk. He’s a very powerful fighter. He should be in the Hall of Fame for what he’s accomplished. But he walks around with his nose up in the air. He’s your typical bully.”
And from Hughes (who mentions he plans to fight six more times before he retires):
“I think maybe he got a little lucky when he beat George. I have more ways to beat him than he has to beat me. I didn’t see anything [on the show] that gave me any doubt. Matt and I don’t like each other. But we didn’t get into any fights. I wasn’t going to let the fact we are fighting affect me as a coach. As far as I was concerned, he wasn’t there. If he said anything I didn’t like, I let it roll off my shoulders.”
UFC Fight Night 11 will lead into the premier episode of TUF 6. It’s the reason for the late start. Going forward, TUF 6 will air on Spike TV in the usual 10 p.m. ET slot.

I can’t F’n wait..this ish is like crack. Sept 19. 11pm. I got the remote control..Team Terror Serra!!! I’m rooting for the hometown!
Team Serra all the way. I hope Serra gets to pick the fighters he wants before Hughes picks them. How crazy would it be if Hughes gets the first pick and Hughes picks Joe Scarola who is Serra’s top student?!
Yeah I hope Serra’s team wins. The preview for this on the pay per view event looked crazy. People fighting in the house and breaking everything. I was like YIKES!
Im not familair wit any of these fighters. I herd a couple of their names before, but thats about it.
Anyone wit any Knowledge of the contestants, lemme kno.
Looks like it will be entertaining, but I saw a cople street fights happening in the house and a lot of destruction in the house. Dana needs to get it in these morons minds that they need to portray themselves. The contestants are on Television representing mixed martial artist and they should start acting like they have some sense.
Mac Danzig wins.
Sorry to get off topic but whats up wit Forrest Griffin walking around at 240 lbs. It seems as if he wants to cut a lot of weight and be much heavier then shogun when they fight in 4 weeks. Shogun is very fast, being stronger but slower in my oppinion wont help forrest. either way he is doomed
I’m not a big fan of them tearing the house apart and portaying themselves as “I’m that baddest guy in this house yo” attitude. I hope that Hughes’ team wins. I think he did a good job coaching last time. It’ll be interesting to see how he coaches people that could potentially face him one day.
I can never stop laughing when Serra calls someone arrogant or an a$$hole. Does this guy listen to the way he portrays himself?
What about GSP? Do the Matts trash talk GSP as a mentally unstable fighter? The entire show was shot before GSP’s comeback?
I can’t wait to watch Hughes get in this cheeseball’s head. He already started with his gretting, “Hi, champ.”
Serra is going to get destroyed by Hughes, whos is so much better than Serra that it is not even funny. Hughes is also a great coach, and it will be fun to watch his team destroy team Serra.
Anybody have a link to a preview of the show?
Hughes may be the better fighter of the two, but Serra is definitely the better coach. The way he took over his team on the 4th season showed he has leadership. All I really saw Matt Hughes do was push his guys hard. Pushing alone doesnt make you a good coach.
Damn… This almost isn’t fair. Mac Danzig has a 16-4-1 record where the average guy has around 6 pro fights, win some lose some. Danzig has a lot of KOTC experience and even a fight in Pride. Judging by his record alone, this dude’s gonna free the beast all over the ring.

Whilst I partially agree with you, you have to consider that Danzig doesn’t really fight at this weight class normally.
That’s not to say he doesn’t have a good shot, though.

If he’s stronger and slower, that allows him to try to slug his way through Shogun, which he knows is the only fathomable way he can win.

That’s not true. He can always pull the brass knucks out of his shorts, have his manager slip him a steel chair when the ref is unconscious or take a few friends and assault Shogun in the dressing room before the cameras get there.
I favor Serra in both aspects, as a coach and as a fighter right now. Serra runs his own gym and Hughes comes across as a high school football coach. Look at their last fights. HUghes blanketed Chris Lytle and Serra destroyed, an admittedly under trained, GSP. Serra’s striking has gone far beyond Hughes, and though I will give the advantage to hughes in terms of strength and wrestling, Serra could knock him out standing up or submit him on the ground. Unfortunately the way I see that fight going down is HUghes probably taking down serra and smothering him for a narrow win. That’s his only way to win. If that doesn’t happen Serra could take it. I hate Hughes. I don’t think he is an evil person, just your cliche arrogant jock. I’m surprised he doesn’t walk around in a letterman jacket.

It sounds like you have some resentment from high school.
Come here big guy.
Serra’s Team will lose and Serra will get kicked off the show himself for the peep hole he sets up in the mens showers. He has been known to promote NAMBLA
Yeah…I give this to Danzig as well.

U kno whats crazy
The odds for the following fights are:
Dan henderson 120
Rampage -150
Forrest Griffin 120
Shogun -150
Which means that in the odds maker eyes Griffin has as good as a chance at pulling off an upset as Dan Henderson does.
That is ridiculous and I plan on getting rich quick wit some heavy betting action on shogun!
Serra I think is the better coach. He runs his own school and demenstrated great leadership in TUF The Comeback.
Serra’s striking and ju jitsu is superior to matt Hughes’s (although hughes’s ju jitsu is very good, it aint as good as Serra’s)
Hughes will only have the upperhand in wrestling and Brute strength.
Serra will be the underdog but I wont be surprised if he wins. I kno ill be rooting for him!
and to those who say that serra got lucky in his striking, check out serra vs. Karo, he almost finished Karo wit a simular flurries of punches that he used to beat GSP. So is striking win over GSP I do not consider luck.
Serra win over GSP wasnt a striking fluke, it was more of a case of GSP simply underestimating him. But Serra’s striking I think is way better then hughes.
Who has hughes ever struck well against?

One decision win over KOS does NOT complete a champion’s comeback!!! You will be eating those words when GSP gets KO’d AGAIN by Serra, or submitted by Hughes!

Hey, speaking of which, did anyone notice GSP’s ring attire? I think he stuffed his jock strap with a cheese grater! Honestly, the ref should have made him reveal whatever consealed weapon GSP had down his shorts.
what’s even more ridiculous is Dana’s phony indignation over their behavior when it is he that has choreographed every tiny element even remotely related to anything UFC. What do you think is going to happen when you lock 16 bullies-but it’s cool to call em fighters, I’m down with that- in a house for who knows how long and give em all the booze they care to drink with little else to do but drink and talk shit at eachother, and then everyone expresses discust when they get drunk and FIGHT….FUCKIN DUH….what did Dana or anyone else expect to happen….oh and by the way, it is a TV Show, it is after the 18-35 male demographic and this does get ratings…..so can we all please just keep it real, except for Dana- too much to ask…….the UFC is popular because it’s violent, the TV Show is UFC spawned so the more the violence the better the ratings….so if they were truly concerned with presenting UFC athletes in the best possible light, they’d eliminate the booze for starters and whatelse I don’t know.
After watching the previews on UFC 74. These damn kids are abunch of animals. Destroying property and eachother

Dude, I’m sorry if you are/were bullied by jocks in highschool…tuff luck man
Serra won a VERY debatable fight againt Lytle…
Serra will NEVER submit Hughes on the ground…Hughes will choke Serra out, and he’ll do it early…
Both guys are good coaches, Serra was awesome during his previous TUF stint (even as a competitor). Hughes’ style is different, but equally effective.
You want to talk arrogant, take a listen to Serra since March (even before that). I can’t wait to see Hughes destroy this “paper” champ.

Not that a brutha was starin, but I couldn’t help but wonder, if GSP and Huerta were hiding either the hood from a VW Beetle, or one of those things they wear on the end of their arm in jai-alai down their shorts…
Am I the only person that only watches the last ten minutes to see the fights. my wife enjoys watching the show. She doesn’t like the fights, just the pansy drama in the shows.

Hughes has consistantly become more of a jerk, the letterman’s jacket is CLASSIC (I was a stoner, so yeah, I probably got issues w/ jock mentality in general) and the jock will definitely kick Serra’s ass.

I responded the other post that you posted this but where did you see these odds? THe sportsbook I use has Forrest at 300 and Shougn at -450 so I’m assuming you misread it but if you truly know a place that is offering -150 on Shogun please let me know.

Like I said pretty sure you made a mistake but if not you could actually guarentee yourself to make money by betting on Forrest at 300 and Shogun at -150 so even if Forrest pulled off a huge upset you would be able to make money by placing the right amount on each guy. (500 on forrest, 1000 on Shogun means if Forrest wins you you come up 500 if Shougun wins you come up a couple hundred)
here are a couple of videos from the casting. some of the guys that made it are on there…also, can see some other familiar faces that didn’t make it (see anthony johnson).

Some of these posts are a joke. Matt Hughes is one of the greatest fighters of all time. Matt Serra is a hack who was lucky to win one fight (a title fight he didn’t even deserve to be in).
This fight won’t even be close.
Right on, Big_B!. Serra is a jerk who will get mauled by Hughes, and tap out from strikes by round two. Hughes cannot be stopped by Charuto, Gracie, or Penn, so he damn sure won’t be stopped by the midget Serra.
