GSP simply took Kos to school and beat him at his own game. I’m a Kos fan, so I hope Kos uses this fight as a learning experience, much as GSP did against Hughes.
GSP clearly dominated, but at least Kos was able to go all three rounds and didn’t get destroyed a la Sherk and Hughes.
Well deserved props to GSP! He proved he is on a much higher level then Kos — and many other fighters.
I love GSP. I was hoping he’d work Kos in a stand-up fight, where most people assumed he had the clearest advantage. You think he kept going for the takedown to prove a point? Either way, he proved it.

I think he went for take down after take down was for 2 reasons, number one fear of a freak ko again and also to prove he could hang with kos on the ground, which I never doubted but most did.
I tried to tell all u Kos fans, that Koschek was gonna get completely outclassed. I could c the fire in GSP’s eyes as he entered the octagon. When a world class fighter has that look in his eyes, he wont loose no matter who he fights. U could c koschek breaking down mentally everytime he got put on his back.
I told everyone that world class wrestling just isnt enough to compete wit St. Pieere. Koschek is a punk who ats like Tito, he is so on dimensional, his stiking is really not that great, he looks to throw that wild overhand right over and over again. How awesome was that take down defense that GSP displayed in the 3rd round. He showed y he clearly is the best athlete in the UFC. Us ignorant Americans, booed GSP for years for being from Canada. Its good to c the fans applaud GSP, he is a worldclass fighter and a classy individual. I hope Dana White gives GSP a chance to fight in front of his hometown people when he gets a rematch wit hughes or Serra. He fought mat twice in his country, I wanna c Hughes go into his hometown and just get overwhelmed.
Everyone on this site is always dissing Sean Sherk or Koscheck for taking down guys, laying on them, and not finishing. Now here is St. Pierre doing the same thing and you’re all on his sack again.I was highly unimpressed with his performance. After just getting beatdown and humiliated, he was supposed to destroy Koscheck. In the first round if it were Kos on top they would have stood them up. Herb Dean let them stay down there too long.

On another note. If they are going to fine Babalu, Why didn’t they fine Martin Kampmann for holding onto his choke against Drew Mcfedries??
GSP is the man!!! I see him taking the belt back as soon as this spring (hopefully we’ll see GSP/Hughes 3)…can’t see anyone other than a HEALTHY Diego really hanging with this guy.
Thought that KOS looked completely classless in the pre-fight interviews (”Georgey”, “tin man”, etc). Reinforced his cocky dickhead personality. This made GSP’s dominance that much more fun to watch.
Despite the loss, I am very impressed with Koscheck. He really hung in there and showed a lot of heart. He put up a good fight against a much better fighter. He also took the loss well at the end and congratulated George. GSP is on another level, and will truly be the future of that division, he will be champ again.
I really don’t understand all the Kos haters here, whats he done to deserve all the booing?
“On another note. If they are going to fine Babalu, Why didn’t they fine Martin Kampmann for holding onto his choke against Drew Mcfedries??”
@ getrawbc
the reason they aren’t doing anything against kampmann is for a couple of reasons.
1. he didn’t say he did it on purpose (which i doubt he did)
2. mcfedries went asleep without tapping, which probably confused kampmann when his arms were being rubbed and pulled by herb dean (i think)
3. most people don’t realize that when using an arm-triangle from the top takes a bit of work to get your arms “untangled” and he lets go of the choke (i mean releaves the pressure) but it takes him an extra few seconds to get his arms free from under his head and stuff
oh and i thought that kos’ i’m gonna oil him up with this (right fist) line saying that gsp was the tin man, was so hilarious (laughing at koscheck not with him)

I disagree, what fighter doesn’t talk a little trash about their opponent. These guys have to get into that mindset, and nothing Kos said was disrespectful. He was just poking a little fun at GSP, its the name of the game, to get into your opponents head. GSP didn’t let it get to him. What really matters is what happens at the end of the fight, we all see that in reality both fighters have a lot of respect for each other, Kos took the loss graciously, and congratulated GSP. Its not personal. The exception was with Sanchez, with his dumbass stunt at the weigh ins, thats a big example of an ass without class. I don’t hold it against Koscheck for not showing Diego any respect.
In addition, Matt Hughes did get personal before his last fight with GSP, saying that shit about Canadians not being fighters, basically calling them cowards. Im American myself, I think Matt Hughes crossed a line there between trash talking, and being completely disrespectful not only to GSP, but to Canada as well.

They didnt stand it up because GSP was working submisions and improving to a better position. GSP completely dominated the guy regarded as the best wrestler in mma at his own game. GSP displayed unbelievable takedown defense and wrestling skills in that fight.

I don’t understand it myself. A valiant effort by Kos, but GSP is going to be champ again and I dont see anyone taking the belt from him for a long time.
That fight was beautiful, that’s all I can say. St. Pierre took Koscheck into Koscheck’s own neighborhood and beat him down there. I don’t know if it was to prove a point, but as much as I respect GSP as a fighter, I gained even more respect for him last night.

to begin with, fighters are expected to hype fights. hype = sales. there are very few fighters who truely do not respect their opponent. dana white doesn’t care for tito, but tito sells ppv and $ is ALL that matters to the manangement, in any league.
i thought koscheck was going to win this fight. then i saw gsp warming up and started getting nervous. eye of the tiger. when GSP is in the zone, it’s sooo obvious.
first of all, koscheck looked like he just came off of a coke binge; i’m waiting to learn that he had mono or something. second, gsp came with the ferocity that he often lacks and straight out-fought kos. gsp is the shit, but i have to hand it to koscheck for defending that kimora as long as he did, that’s not easy.
gsp won that fight and deserves to fight for (and hopefully regain) his belt. kos has a year or two before he’s ready, we’ve seen that, now.
Hey just wanted to say what a night of fights from start to finish great night for the ufc. Now moving on to my comment it really annoyed me how Rogan and other announcers where making statements like gsp was on his way out before the fight, they sure changed their tune after the first takedown. And at 24years of age to Kos’s 29years I think we know who is more likely to be on his way to a mediocre career. After dieago-kos have their rematch in which sanchez will return to his winning ways I think that kos will be nothing more than a footnote in the welterweight class.
Nuff said!!! Please, So what he held him down and he’s not supposed to be the wrestler. My point was is you guys bash wrestlers here saying it’s all lay and pray, but when your guy lays around and doesn’t finish then it’s a schooling.
Finish the fight GSP. Sherk was trying to finish Franca and you all talked junk. But GSP performance was awesome.
“I really don’t understand all the Kos haters here, whats he done to deserve all the booing?”
I’ll bite. This is why he bothers me - Koscheck is beyond cocky, especially for a guy who hasn’t really fought great competition. Look at his last 6 opponents. The way Kos talks smack, you would have thought he had beaten Fedor, Cro Cop, and Couture.
He has fought mid-level opponents and fared well. Truthfully, the UFC has built him up carefully and he has bought into his own hype. The announcers keep talking about he has great striking but I just don’t see it. Plus, that Kos/Diego match was one of the worst things I have ever seen in the years I have been watching the UFC.

I was very impressed with koschecks guard, it saved his arse from getting severely beaten. Too be honest I felt kind of sorry for koscheck despite his cocky attitude pre fight, and thought round 2 was completely humiliating to him. Gsp typically doesn’t start off great but does better in rounds 2 and 3 but I still think he won round one even though it was close. I don’t agree with the judges score at all, I would have given it more like 30/26 gsp won round one, close though, round 2 I feel it should have been more like 10 - 8 and round three was all gsp not close for a 10 - 9 score. Koscheck does have a good chin and is hard to ko and has a very impressive guard. I actually thought it would be closer though with koscheck being so athletic, gsp made him look bad. I bet all the other welter weights out there are crapping there pants now with “the best wrestler in MMA” been beaten at him own game. Matt Hughes was a prophet in his analysis of the fight, grappling when striking is involved is completely different than wrestling on a mat. Gsp proved in spades how well rounded he is and will be very hard to beat unless another fighter cashes in on there punchers chance I don’t see him losing anytime soon.

I agree with you there, getrawbc. It seemed like BJ held onto Pulver longer than Sobral held onto Heath. But no consequences. It didn’t help Sobral by directly addressing it after the fight though.
No one doubts Kos’ wrastlin’ skills, but as you have seen in many of his fights, he is completely lost once he gets his opponent to the ground, especially against someone who is comfortable on the ground and knows basic sweeping.
That is all Kos had going for him and if you’re going to think that his new found striking (basic at best) was going to help him against GSP, you were wrong. The UFC is really good at hyping up a fight and declaring that one-sided fights are actually close and are a toss up, but you have to stand back, look at previous fights, and see what the facts are. Using vague and general phrases such as, “Kos is very athletic and explosive and is a Division 1 wrestling champ” means nothing. Using the same logic I could be a contender, I’m athletic, I can be explosive, and I’m an Honor student.
Next time, let’s not make quick assumptions based on the UFC hype machine. Kos had a punchers chance at best, but when you’re telegraphing an overhand right and it’s all you have, the punchers chance becomes punch-drunk silliness.
Only thing that sux about GSP is that we gotta wait until at least March 08 to see the return of the King! GSP was more that impressive with the way he handled a 4x D1 All-American. Everyone should be “a GSP Nuthugger” cause he is just that good. End of story!

Kos is hated because he’s a cocky ahole that gives no respect to any of his oponets or the fans. Saying things like I don’t give a Sh** if the fans boo me because its usually a bunch of drunken idiots who don’t know anything about mma kinda loses my respect for him. Although this can be true what he is saying, those same “drunken idiots” are the reason that he can fight for a living so he owes them a bit more respect than that and he trying to get in your oponents head is one thing but he displays a complete lack of respect for his oponents and it was awesome to see him get dominated at his own game.
I’m not very original, I put this on one of the other threads, but I think it works here too.
Didn’t GSP train with the Canadian National Wrestling Team? Wouldn’t that mean he was training with wrestlers of a higher caliber than a Div 1 champ? Olympic medalists or Div 1 champ, who’s the better class of wrestlers?
GSP is Awesome. I think that he’d planned to out wrestle the wrestler and make a point that everybody who doubted him was wrong. GSP is head and shoulders above Kos in the striking department. If round three was any indication, if GSP had kept the fight standing, which he could have b/c he STUFFED everything that Kos had from the outside (one take down after a scramble up from the mat) GSP would have broken Kos up like a twig.
Randy is plainly AMAZING. If you’re wondering how old he is, he’s 44. I know this because Goldberg and Rogan mentioned it a couple of times….ok, about 70 or 80 times….each.
How nice were those superman punch, leg kick combo’s by GSP?
I was very impressed! He threw it very uniquely - i usually see the superman punch coming by the person setting up, but i didn’t see that with GSP. If the fight would have went 10 more seconds KOS would have been submitted by an ankle lock
The resume keeps building for GSP, people can dis Kos all they want but he’s no slouch, if anything this fight should serve well for him as he’s only been competing for 3 years in MMA and he hung with one of the best fighters in the world. AKA might have a bit of an issue, Kos should still be ranked higher than Diego and the winner of the Fitch-Diego could face Kos. I don’t understand why one camp would allow three contending fighters to compete all in the same division. Kos should seriously consider changing camps. Kos needs to perfect his transitions from striking to takedowns if he wants to be effective at a higher level.
GSP totally dominated Kos on the ground! 10 sec more he would of had that leg lock! The way GSP was fighting that night was very different from his other fights, he was consintrating more on the take down then his stand up! But His Sprawl was freakin amazing!!

I must give KOS some credit as I have never done so before. GSP clearly demonstrated the level he is at, but KOS took it to a decision which I did not expect. GSP has still not gotten over the loss to Serra as he seemed reluctant at times, but also beat KOS at his own game and demonstrated why he is one of the best in all of MMA.

Distance or not Kos got manhandled and owned and i loved every second of it.
GSP is the man for sure. Very good fight. He’s got to be odds on to beat either Serra or Hughes. He looks huge for 170lbs and is so strong and fast too.
Anyone not impressed by his performance ought to consider WTF they’d do against 1 of the best wrestlers at the weight on the planet!! GSP would’ve submitted Kos with his last second heel hook too if there’d been just 20 secs left on the clock. All in all a dominant display.
GSP just out-wrestled the most impressive wrestler in MMA history. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that Rush is pound for pound the most talented fighter around.

Quoting the UFC official site: “Georges St-Pierre pulls out an impressive win against Josh Koscheck at UFC 74: Respect!”
I said it all along…..GSP will school this clown. That was a three round clinic. KOS witnessed first hand that there is a whole other caliber of fighter in 170 that he will never reach. DAmn clown!..They should make him face Sanchez again after Diego handles his teamate Fitch at 76
GSP’s the man!! I love that guy. Man, what talent and determination! And most of all a class act.
St. Pierre is a great rollmodel for MMA and will help launching the UFC around the world. (I’m from Norway btw and one of the very few guys to have even heard of MMA in this country.) Go GSP!
“Why does GSP have to be so nice to everyone? My wife and her friend think its a bit creepy. I do too.
STOP BEING SO NICE GSP!!!!”
It’s not about being “nice”. It’s about respect. It’s about class. That’s what sets GSP apart. Do you want him walking around yapping like BJ Penn or Hughes?
And another thing, before last night’s event, I was trash talking Kos with the best of em. That curly blonde fro alone is enough for me to want to beat him. That said, I think the fans went too far last night. Enough with the boos already. When the fight was over, he rushed over to Georges to give props. He didn’t sulk, he didn’t whine, he took the loss like a man. Show some respect. People change. Give the guy a chance to show he’s learned some humility.
Taken one step further, I have to say, what is with all these brainless fans and the booing!? I mean they friggin boo’d Rampage!? Retards. I understand wanting action. If I had to suffer through another Tim Sylvia - Andrei Arlovski fight I just might hang myself. But you don’t start booing when you can clearly see that a couple great fighters are trying to size each other up. A little patience and respect must be given. You don’t see that kind of attitude in Japan. The Japanese recognize the importance of the ground game and the chess match that ensues. Where do they find these idiots?
gsp is all class. i am going to invite him over for a beer and some poutine. ha. but really, he will rip your face off in the ring, but outside the cage, he is a genuinely great guy. even koscheck seems to appreciate this judging by the look on his face, because lord knows he must be fucking baffled at what happened to him last night.
I’m with lee and think fans go too far with the booing, I felt sorry for kos even though I was glad he lost. Gsp’s take down defense is out of this world, in the third round kos had a leg and he not only couldn’t get gsp down but gsp got on top of him! freakin unreal. I knew gsp had good wrestling but geez, kos must be wondering what the hell happened, how did gsp get him down every time he tried. I guess the real difference is this is MMA not a wrestling tournament, theres kicking and striking involved, gsp is a master of using both and has incredible balance. It was so weird to see kos on his back most of the fight, I actually can’t remember anyone successfully taking him down in the past. This fight must have turned his whole world upside down with all his wrestling credentials and be a huge blow to his ego. When they were announcing the decision he looked like he was going to cry, I hope he learns from this fight and comes back better than ever but with some humility, it would do him some good.

Gsp isn’t that nice. With one minute left in the fight Kos gave up and congradulated GSP, George said ,”what” and hammered him with an elbow. I laughed my ass off when I read this on UFC.com. Talk about lack of heart Kos, I never herd of a guy congradulating a guy before the fight is even over.

LOL very funny, “My wife and her friend think its a bit creepy. I do too.” what????? look up creepy man, gsp is not creepy, he’s just against hating, and is a gentleman.

koscheck has said that he and fitch would never fight because they are such good friends, we’ll see. i agree that kos should explore a new camp. he’s already living in san jose, i’d LOVE to see him train under frank shamrock for a couple of years. gsp is an absolute stud, but i’m not convinced that koscheck didn’t have some kind of “issue,” be it professional or personal. he didn’t look that bad on TUF! gsp will face serra or hughes next, either of which he can finish, and i hope he does.
you know what else is funny, serra is always on hughes for being a “dick.” serra should tone that down or he’s going to be the “dick.” hughes hasn’t talked any smack about serra. with the exception of ortiz v. shamrock, i’ve never heard any fighter be as disrepectful toward another fighter than serra has been to hughes. i might just pull for hughes in december.

Well said bloodchoke. The pendulum is swinging on Serra.
Ok will u fans finally believe me when I say that wrestlers cannot beat GSP:
Hughes
Trigg
Sherk
Koscheck
GSP is so classy, for those who say he is creepy is retarded. The guy doesnt talk smack, he is always humble. He represents the sport in a way I wish more fighters would. For crying out loud he is 25 years old and wearing suits to his post fight press confrences.. The guy is classy, and amazing
The UFC would be lucky to have more of its fighters act like him.
i don’t find his being pleasant creepy, but the fact that he looks like curious george is kinda wierd. the curious george that i grew-up with would have never become proficient in combat-sports. JJ
i agree, any sport would benenfit having more GSPs. if more jocks were like GSP, the number of butt-kickings i received in school would have been cut in half!!
GSP’s performance wasn’t surprising to anyone who’s followed his career since the beginning when he was fighting in TKO up here in Canada. We all know how great his wrestling and bjj is. Props to Kos for surviving the three rounds, but he’s just discovered that he has alot of work ahead of him.
As for GSP being “creepy” clearly you don’t know the meaning of the words “class” and “respect” which are supposed to be an integral part of the martial arts.
I’ve met GSP a number of times and he is exactly the way he appears to be on camera. Super friendly, very humble and totally down to earth. He’s Canadian. We’re all nice. It’s genetic.
His “super secret game plan” was to lie on top of GSP for 3 rounds and pray for a decision. But, I guess when you’re not fighting staph-ravaged opponents or mid-level journeymen it’s a little harder to do that.
Gsp is a class act right to the end, after the crap kos said to him, what a guy, he’s as gracious as he is talented.

He has no choice but to say good things. He didn’t finish!!!! Koscheck, who this site’s fans talk so much junk about, went the distance. Why is no one talking about that?
3. most people don’t realize that when using an arm-triangle from the top takes a bit of work to get your arms “untangled” and he lets go of the choke (i mean releaves the pressure) but it takes him an extra few seconds to get his arms free from under his head and stuff
oh and i thought that kos’ i’m gonna oil him up with this (right fist) line saying that gsp was the tin man, was so hilarious (laughing at koscheck not with him)
Thought that KOS looked completely classless in the pre-fight interviews (”Georgey”, “tin man”, etc). Reinforced his cocky dickhead personality. This made GSP’s dominance that much more fun to watch.

How nice were those superman punch, leg kick combo’s by GSP?
Gsp WILL be champ again, and remain champ until he moves up to middle weight.

?
I agree with you there, getrawbc. It seemed like BJ held onto Pulver longer than Sobral held onto Heath. But no consequences. It didn’t help Sobral by directly addressing it after the fight though.
Where did you guys see this fight where can I watch it??? I couldn’t find any undercard fights?
ufc.com
they are 2$ each to watch
I must give KOS some credit as I have never done so before. GSP clearly demonstrated the level he is at, but KOS took it to a decision which I did not expect. GSP has still not gotten over the loss to Serra as he seemed reluctant at times, but also beat KOS at his own game and demonstrated why he is one of the best in all of MMA.
Gsp is a class act right to the end, after the crap kos said to him, what a guy, he’s as gracious as he is talented.
He has no choice but to say good things. He didn’t finish!!!! Koscheck, who this site’s fans talk so much junk about, went the distance. Why is no one talking about that?
On another note. If they are going to fine Babalu, Why didn’t they fine Martin Kampmann for holding onto his choke against Drew Mcfedries??[/quote
Hey Mania 3rd for UFC 74 at MMA playground, not bad guys any one else do well?
The whole 2nd round “My ass on your head” mount had to be humiliating for Kos.
My brother did that to me once when I was 8 and we still laugh about it.
The only difference between GSP and my brother was that my brother dropped bombs on my head of the gaseous kind.
Wait…Kos got gassed…literally.
If you look at the replay Kos’ eyes looked a little watery when he had GSPs ass in his face.
Anyone?
GSP just out-wrestled the most impressive wrestler in MMA history. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that Rush is pound for pound the most talented fighter around.
I was convinced that Koscheck was going to win this fight… I like Kos and enjoy watching him, but he got taught a serious lesson.

Quoting the UFC official site: “Georges St-Pierre pulls out an impressive win against Josh Koscheck at UFC 74: Respect!”
Straight from the horses mouth… “impressive win”
I said it all along…..GSP will school this clown. That was a three round clinic. KOS witnessed first hand that there is a whole other caliber of fighter in 170 that he will never reach. DAmn clown!..They should make him face Sanchez again after Diego handles his teamate Fitch at 76
“Why does GSP have to be so nice to everyone? My wife and her friend think its a bit creepy. I do too.
STOP BEING SO NICE GSP!!!!
There is a saying: “if your friends with everyone then your really not friends with anyone”"
Thats cause hes Canadian fella. He has manners and respect. Im sure your not used to it…….

Kos needs to perfect his transitions from striking to takedowns if he wants to be effective at a higher level.
koscheck has said that he and fitch would never fight because they are such good friends, we’ll see. i agree that kos should explore a new camp. he’s already living in san jose, i’d LOVE to see him train under frank shamrock for a couple of years. gsp is an absolute stud, but i’m not convinced that koscheck didn’t have some kind of “issue,” be it professional or personal. he didn’t look that bad on TUF! gsp will face serra or hughes next, either of which he can finish, and i hope he does.
you know what else is funny, serra is always on hughes for being a “dick.” serra should tone that down or he’s going to be the “dick.” hughes hasn’t talked any smack about serra. with the exception of ortiz v. shamrock, i’ve never heard any fighter be as disrepectful toward another fighter than serra has been to hughes. i might just pull for hughes in december.

He’s respectful to everyone which comes off as nice whats wrong with that? It’s not like he’s saying oh sorry I beat you man you need a ride to your hotel or a couple hundred dollars.

Well said bloodchoke. The pendulum is swinging on Serra.

He is just a classy polite guy with respect for other fighters. Creepy? More fighters should be like him.
I picked KOS by decision. I doubted GSPs emotional state.
Does anyone know what KOS’s super secret game plan was he referred to before the fight?
His “super secret game plan” was to lie on top of GSP for 3 rounds and pray for a decision. But, I guess when you’re not fighting staph-ravaged opponents or mid-level journeymen it’s a little harder to do that.
Does anyone know what KOS’s super secret game plan was he referred to before the fight?
I think he was trying to catch GSP with a hook like Serra did.
My favorite part of this fight was the closeup on Sanchez between rounds 1 and 2. That stare! LOL
