By the way Babalu has fought Fedor before and held his own for three 10 minute rounds before losing in a decision
Correct, but that fight happened a little more than 6 years ago. Since then, I believe that Fedor has improved leaps and bounds, and Babalu stayed about the same. He has always been a good well rounded fighter, specializing in BJJ.
I cant belive people are making a big deal about this Babalu needed to teach this guy some respect did you see the weigh ins?
If every fighter fought like that, Tito would have died years ago in the octagon, and so would a lot of fighters that like to HYPE up a fight.

That is the whole thing. How do you sell tickets and gain intrest for a fight? You need to promote it by Hyping the fight up, and what better way to hype it up than to trash talk or disprespect your opponent BEFORE the fight to try and get into thier heads. This happens all the time, in every combat sport. These are supposed to be pro's. You drop all that dumb shit once the fight is over. Everything done prefight is to help sell the fight. It's actually quite rare where the 2 fighters actually hate each other. Babalu is the one that needs to be taught a lesson. Tito does stuff 10 times worse that what Heath did pre-fight, and then respects his opponent afterwards (with the exception of Shamrock), and his opponent respects Tito afterwards as well. Its all about making money, NOT trying to seriously hurt someone.

Karma will come around and get Babalu. Just wait and see....

It is like Penn vs Pulver to me.
Babalu got fined. But BJ didn't.
Truly Unfair!

I'm curious how the other fighters feel about this? Another thing, this was very out of character for Babalu. Every fight that I have seen him win by sub he has always checked on his opponent right after the tap. If it was his second offense then I would think a suspension would definitely be warranted but not justifiable when other fighters have done it once and not been suspended. I think the issue should be discussed with all fighters not just Babalu for the sake of the sport and before someone gets hurt.

This thing has been blown way out of proportion. The choke was about 3 seconds after a very light tap by Heath. Heath is a scumbag who made the fight pesonal, when he tried to become the next tito by using t-shirts making fun of babalu and then dogged him in front of everyone at the weigh-ins. Then he got absoulty worked in the octogon and put to sleep. Good for Babalu. Every true longtime MMA fan seen a guy put to sleep before. The life guard post is right, it takes a long time before you can cause any brain damage or kill someone. David Heath is alive and well, but now might think twice before disrespecting his opponet before a fight. By the way Babalu has fought Fedor before and held his own for three 10 minute rounds before losing in a decision. He is one of the best 205lbs fighters out there with a submission over Shogun. Fine him and lets move on to more important issues.

How long did Babalu hold of for? I count 5 full seconds from the first time Heath taps. 4 seconds after Mazzagatti first grabbed his arm, and over 2, nearly 3 full seconds of Mazzagatti tying to pry his arms off of Heath.

Karma exists for a reason. It may not happen in his next fight, but soon down the road, I see Babalu getting seriously hurt in a MMA fight. It doesn't even need to be done in the dirty fashion that Babalu did. It could be fair and square, but I want to see him laid out 10 times worse than Radev was against McFedries. And you know what - I truely think it will happen.

ya know what, this should be his penalty. Give Shogun his rematch with Babalu. BUT Babalu has to fight either blind folded or with one arm tied behind his back.

Or just feed him to Fedor straight up in an open weight fight.

It was definitely and admittedly way after he tapped on purpose, what a prick. Royce Gracie too, reading these posts reminds me of UFC 3 I believe where you almost broke this poor guys arm who was tapping way longer than Heath. Lost all respect forever for this guy.

I think it was 8 seconds total that he held it on after the fact he tapped,
For real???? Did you even watch the fight man??? He only holds the choke for 2.5 -3 seconds after the end of the fight. Not even close to the 8 seconds that your claiming.

If you doubt my claim, check out the fight

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2uaae_renato-babalu-sobral-vs-david-heath_extreme

Here is the whole fight so that all can view and watch the choke, when mazzagatti stops the fight, and when Babalu releases heath about 3 seconds later.
I don't mean it sarcasticly, but I think the person who counted 8 seconds was watching the slow motion replay when they counted. It looked REALLY bad in slow motion, not as bad in real time, still uncalled for IMHO.

yo, Babalu should be suspended for being stupid. He said he wanted to teach heath a lesson about respect. He already won the fight! What else do you want. Does he want to give his opponent unnecessary permanent damage? The 25K isn't enough, I say a year suspension and if it happens again indefinite suspension. Let him fight in the IFL. He just pissed off a lot of fighters, thats for sure.
