Lightweights Jorge Gurgel (11-2) and Alvin Robinson (8-2) are booked to clash at UFC 77: “Hostile Territory” on October 20 at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Gurgel revealed the match up during an open house at his gym — Jorge Gurgel Mixed Martial Arts Academy — over the weekend. UFCmania reader “Drew” was at the event and passed along the news.
Doug Evans — not Robinson — was the first choice to face Gurgel in front of his adopted hometown crowd. The Alaskan, however, couldn’t take the fight because of an injury.
This will be the second fight for Robinson inside the Octagon. The Ring of Fire lightweight champion lost his debut to Kenny Florian in the first round of their UFC 73 bout last month via submission (strikes).
Gurgel is riding a two-fight win streak, with his most recent victory coming over Diego Saraiva via unanimous decision at UFC 73.

who gives a shit? alvin the chipmunk vs the guy with probably the least punching power in the entire ufc. ohio gave the ufc it’s attendance record last time they came to the buckeye state, so now dana white responds by coming back and giving us the shittiest card i’ve ever seen. thanks asshole
Interesting, if Gurgel is fighting the same night Franklin is, who is cornering them?
Phil: u r right bro, that shit aint cool. Id like to c Gurgel seperate from Rich franklins nutts
gorge is a great fighter. He allwayz proves to have a really big heart.
Its shame doug evans isnt fighting him. That woulda been a brawl.
Phil STOP BEING SO GREEDY .UFC hasent made the offical card yet .STOP COMPLAINING AT LEAST UFC CAN COME TO YOU… I LIVE IN TORONTO AND MMA IS NOT ALLOWED HERE. so be happy you even get to see a live event
I must say when I talked to Jorge about this I was very happy to hear Alvin Robinson’s name come out of his mouth. Jorge still has a broken jaw but it should be fine by the time of the fight.
This match has all the potential for being the fight of the night, with both of them being extremely phenominal at BJJ, this is a great chance to see a incredible BJJ match.
Uh guys, you know Jorge trains Rich right? He is not on his nuts, Jorge is a very incredible person and extremely nice, and he is very interactive with his friends which are his family.
The reason why Rich is as good as he is now, is due to some part of Jorge Gurgel. They are best friends, and they help one another out.
This match will be incredible.

I was gonna say that. RICH goes to jorges gym to train. But it seems like half the people that post on here dont seem to know MMA as much as they think they do.
Are you kidding me dude.
Sure he may be a nice person but is guy could’nt beat cold. And then he’d have some excuse why could’nt overcome it.
jorjie is just a filler when they dont have anyone to make the card they call jorjie…my god get him outta here already!!!
Jorge has his work cut out on this one
I just hope Jorge doesn’t talk himself up and disappoint like he usually does. I’ve been pretty harsh on him before but I’ll give him one more chance.
i agree NC-17, jorge does seem like a really nice guy and is without a doubt part of rich’s success. its just amazing to me though how he seemed to completely unload on abbadi and it had no effect whatsoever, and he never took it to the ground. maybe we can finally see his real skills here against the chipmunk

They probably figure we want to see Fighters based in Ohio or fighters who train in Ohio or some sh1t like that. I dont care if a fighter is from the same state as me its like cool this guys from the same place i am beyond that who gives a sh1t if he cant fight his way out of a wet paper bag. Gurgel hell of a nice guy but im not overly excited about this fight but it could turn out to be pretty good. looking foward to seeing Franklin fight deff.
I ex[pect this to be a solid fight, because I have yet to be disapointed by a lightweight bout. The smaller guys just seem to always go at it.
Gurgel is going to get busted for steroids, you heard it right here.
Jorge Gurgel is a UFC fighter? I thought he was just one of those sideshow guys…
Something tells me the Jaw will come up at his lose speech.
Rush: I feel ya pain bro…. I live in Philadelphia, were MMA is illegal in Pennsylvania.. its rough… Im gonna have to drive 4 hours to c the November pay perview in New Jersey.
Every time I watch Gurgel, he seems to loose. Anyone know his record and who is the best guy he has beaten in the UFC?
I think he should do what Jens Pulver did…. get in the 145 lb division in the WEC

Jorge does not take steroids, his muscles are due to weight lifting and body training, not steroids.
There is nothing wrong with moving to the WEC. It’s up and coming along pretty good. Some fighters there may or maynot be the caliber of fighters in the UFC. So do this; when a fighter loses 3 in a row he goes to WEC. Now in the WEC, when a champ defends his belt 2 or 3 times, give him a shot at the BIGTIME! Let some new talent start at the WEC and slowly but surely the stars will shine above all the rest. There would be less question about who belongs where. You win you stay. You lose you go and try to make it back. Take Paulo Filho for example. If he defends his belt a few times he should be given a shot against someone big in the UFC. Right now he is the Top Dog in his weight division. Lets see him and Franklin or Okami, even Silva. Yeah, those would be some wars. Not like his fight with Joe Doerkson which was a walk through. And I enjoy watching Joe fight, but he didn’t belong in the ring with Paulo that night.
I wasn’t knocking the WEC, I agree with your whole assesment of the company. Except that Paulo Filho has no business in the WEC.
He is ranked in the top 5 of everyones lists at 185, and he has been for a while now. Wit the 185 division being so pathetic, I really do not understand y Paulo isn’t in the UFC, especially since the UFC owns the WEC.
As for gurgel going down to the WEC isn’t a knock on him. The only reason I would suggest him to leave the UFC is that it doesn’t currently have a 145 lb division. Gugel has found life in the UFC LW division to be tough, I think he would fair better at 145. Thats the only reason i suggested him going to the WEC, I wasn’t knocking his talent.
Yeah ship him off to the WEC. Amen to that lol.
Like Nate Quarry for example, let him get some fights again b4 he comes back and makes an ass of himself. I can’t wait to see him fight again. Someone told me he’s fighting Pete Sell again, is that true?

Rush, no worries, we’ll get ours. I’m a T.O. guy myself and the UFC will come to Montreal soon enough. It sucks that MMA is illegal in Ontario, but it’s nothing a little drive can’t fix. Hughes vs. GSP for the title in Montreal 2008 - you heard it here first.
GSP takes Koscheck on Sat, Hughes takes Serra in Dec. and I predict a GSP/Hughes 3 for the Main event in March/April at the Bell Centre. Imagine the atmosphere with that crowd. Plus, a Montreal afterparty would smoke a Toronto party any day. The women are way more chill there, less attitude.
GSP takes the title in 08 in Montreal!!!
haha, just noticed I got a bit off topic there when I saw the title of this article again, sorry fellas.

That should be sweet for you guys!!! It almost makes me want ot be Canadian.LOL…just kidding!

ONLY if he loses, should he go to the WEC to join their 145 lb division, which he is better suited for.

John, a lot of people think that Gurgel always loses. But actually, he is 11 - 2with 9 subs in his MMA career. In the UFC he is 2-1, he has a Winning Record! He lost to Mark Hominick and has beaten Danny Abbadi and Diego Saraiva. Not exactly two top notch oppponents, but they are wins in the UFC none the less.
Jorge Gurgel got beaten up he should close down his BJJ academic and instead of opening up a BBBJ camp, look at his face after the bout, really funny like an ELF coming out of an accident lol
jorge gurgel.
what can i say about this guy. This dude could’nt beat an egg guys!
