Hughes seems a poor cach

Judging from the Ultimate Fighter. He also seems to have had a charisma bypass. Serra has grown on me.

I used to be a huge Hughs fan. The more I see, the more annoying he gets!

Violent to Mike,

Conditioning is not a skill. Is a distance runner a skilled athlete or a well-conditioned athlete?

I still don't see the reason for Hughes to leave the division to fight Silva if Franklin doesn't win. Hughes has got more competition now than ever so I think he's running.
If that is the case(which I don't think it is) Silva is the wrong direction to run. That's like running away from the guy with the knife, to the guy with the gun.
funny iwasthinking the exact same thing.i'm thinking he can't beat gsp, can't beat bj,would have adiffucult time to beat kos so why leave a division that's loaded with talent to get his face rearranged by anderson silva. maybe hughes and franklin get a special rate on plastic surgery if they go around the same time! promoting a fighter like sherk is pretty pathetic when the guy just got nailed for using steroids but to say that sherk would beat bjpenn is really going out on a limb.i don't care how long hughes has been fighting and how much sucess he's had,i think he's talking out of his ass!i'd actually like to see hughes fight silva i'd be 1st rd. total destruction.than maybe hughes would realize that there no more place for him in the ufc besides coaching. personally i wouldn't want to coached by the know it all, even with his successes. ialso doubt that he and gsp call each other up and talk anything.matt has to respect gsp because gsp knocked the shit out of his head, well atleast some of it because it's obvious ther is still alot of bullshit in there. fight bj,gsp,or even kos but move up to fight silva?

There now ya see John Conditioning is a skill. And all the what if's dont change the reality that Matt's Cardio and stamina is superior to Penn's. And i stand by my opinion that i dont think Penn will ever have Hughes's stamina. In the end training and conditioning and building cardio is always a plus and improves stamina a heck of alot but some just have that extra gear and some dont. But dont get me wrong i love watching Bj fight and look foward to seeing more of him in the LW div.

right on nathan, right on.

I still can't believe that someone said that conditioning is in no way shape or form, a skill. A skill is something you have to train at and work hard to aquire. Conditioning isn't something that comes naturally either. One must train and work hard on a consistant basis to be well conditioned.

Hughes just hates BJ cause he knows BJ is better, and on top has got his number. Otherwise I think the Hughes interview was pretty good.
How does Bj Penn have his number? Have you seen round 3 of their 2nd fight? Hughes utterly destroys him , standing , on the ground and submitted him with strikes ... He just couldnt tap cause he couldnt move...

BJ Penn knows if he doesnt win before round 3 then hes cardio goes too shit... He gassed against Hughes pt2 , GSP , Pulver part 1 etc..
I've got a news flash for ya; you can get your arse kicked for all 3 rds of a fight and still win it with a KO/TKO or submission but that does not make you the better fighter because had it gone to decision you would have lost. At best, it means you've got heart & can take a beating, nothing more. My point: Hughes won the 2nd fight against BJ but up until that finish was getting mopped up.
I see your point but in a fight you have to win right to the end. In a street fight what good is kicking some guys arse for 5 minutes only to get tired and then get ko'ed, you'd be seriously screwed. Conditioning is EXTREMELY important, like gsp said what good is the best driver in the world in a sh*t car? He realizes conditioning is a vital base and it is, mainly the reason Hughes wins most of his fights, it sure as hell isn't his technical skill, bj is much more talented than him in the technical department but Hughes has a major strength and conditioning advantage. Strength to prevent submissions and conditioning to weather the storm and out last his opponents. If penn doesn't finish Hughes early on I say he loses 9 out of 10 decision fights when there's 5 rounds.
Im curious about what u all think. If Bj and Matt part III happens and they both enter the fight wit the same conditioning, what would be the result?
John, that is pretty much the whole point of this arguement.
BJ PENN WILL NEVER EVER HAVE THE SAME CONDITIONING AS MATT HUGHES - Especially at 170 lbs.
I agree, BJ did look pretty dominate in the first round and a half or so, but that's because Matt wasn't completely fighting as the Matt Hughes of old. (He has really been trying new things out. He needs to stick with what made him the best WW champ in MMA history.) So if they were to ever fight again for the WW belt, even if BJ wins the first 2 rounds, it won't even matter because he won't be able to submit Hughes (except for RNC) in those 2 rounds, or any round for that matter. And then Hughes's will put his superior conditioning on display and finish BJ off by GnP TKO before the end of round 4.

BJ wins, but that is a big if , for BJ to get his conditioning to the level of Matt's(which is one of the best in the game). It's easier said than done, when you grow up in a wealthy family, having everything come easy it's hard to develope a good work ethic. It's something money can't buy,in fact it something money can deter.
Thor: the only reason BJ ever looses is conditioning. Thats y I say matt is outclassed against him. Skill wise Hughes isnt even close to BJ. Matts work ethic is better then BJ's but is that reqally considered a skill?
Yes, and apparently a very important one.
