andrei arlovski

Quoteworthy (from UFC President Dana White):

“His last showing wasn’t very great. That hurts a guy. It sets you back when you have a real bad showing like that, especially when you’re in a division that’s stacked.”

Despite winning his last two fights — and being rumored to fight Brandon Vera — “The Pitbull” remains chained outside with no bouts confirmed for the foreseeable future.

OK sure exciting fights are important but when top guys sit on the sidelines the fights they schedule become a lot less exciting.

“the pitbull” has been very timid lately. It would be a hard PPV sale with andrei as the main event. Dana rewards exciting fighters. Nothing wrong with that

Andrei is being sidlined because his fighting style as of late is not good for the growth of the sport. Who wants to watch unexciting fights? Boxing fans maybe but not MMA fans!

well is it a sport or is it just entertainment like wrestling?? Dana seems to have no rhyme or reason when putting together fights or allegiance to fighters who have paid there dues. I am a die hard mma fan but I have to admit it’s kinda getting sketchy in the ufc with all the matchups guys coming over getting title fights with one warm up fight(even though I realize they deserve to be or will be belt holders they are the top fighters doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have to abide by some rules and fight a couple fights against top talent before they get a shot). I think I just miss the actual concept of mma which is to compete and work your way up to a title shot, watching a fighter progress up the ranks into a title shot. It just seems more exciting as opose to well this guy really shouldn’t be fighting this guy it makes no sense and nobody will gain anything from it but it will sell tickets so lets do it! ex.chuck vs. jardine( not saying jardine can’t win but it doesn’t make sense, why should chuck fight a guy who is not in the top ten coming off a huge loss alexander?? Chuck should be fighting only top talent he’s 36-37 years old!! He might not have his best years in front of him anymore and to waist three months of training to watch a fight I am really not interested in to begin with is ridiculous. And yes I am aware jardine is a replacement but good god find someone who atleast ranks in the top ten or don’t fight atall take a month off.

You guys want to see the best of AA?

Dana White, put him in w/ Vera, a fighter that is certain to push the pace (unlike Sylvia and Werdum), and AA will come into the fight physically ready for a war and ready to fight for a top spot in the HW division, GUARANTEED!

I think AA got infected with nastiness by Tim Sylvia. That fight he had last year for the title was god awful. I know he was injured but that was probly the most boring fight ive ever watched…..ever. He stayed in that mind set for a while after that. I wanna see AA come back with some fire under his a#*. Also, Im hoping that he does us all a favor and shaves/waxes that disgusting back hair. I mean, the guy had hair on his shoulders that was touching his ears. Thats just not right, that would totally get in my head if I had to fight him

look at forrest griffens last fight, he admits to doing exactly what everyone is hating on AA for, He was afraid to get knocked out so he ran. So they give Forrest a shot at Shogun, which should he win will likely put him one fight away from a title shot? And dont tell me the heavyweight division is more stacked than light heavyweight, cause its not.

I doesnt matter if Andrei fights or not…he will get lost in the now stacked HW division. You have to remember when Andrei held the belt..the division sucked. At best he will be a gatekeeper like tito ( I love to put down Tito)

hey bloodymess i agree with you completely that the ufc is kinda screwy in that they sideline arlovski while griffin gets a shot at shogun… but i can’t help think that’s forrest’s punishment…. and i remember reading that franklin’s fight was really boring (i never got to see it), and he gets a title shot. Arlovski is a beast and i can’t wait till he gets back and dominates someone really badly, like cro cop.

i think it’s hard for arlovski cause his last two fights have been agains bjj guys so .. give him a striker or at least someone who’s willing to trade for a while, vera, herring, cro cop, kongo, hardonk.

If they don’t want to give him one of those guys, give him nog, i’m sure that it’d be a great fight.

Last two fights? He’s pretty much sucked in his last four fights, even though he won two of them. If he continues his timid ways, I don’t expect to seem him in the UFC much longer.

I liked AA and I still believe he has something to offer the HW division, but he needs to prove it.

Looking at his last 4 fights he has only won 2, 50% is not an impressive victroy ratio for recent fights.

However lets say that his losses were to exceptionally talented fighters, well that is’nt exactly the case either, The Maniac is not someone I would get on the wrong side of but he isn’t exactly or has he ever been a dominant force in MMA. If he retired today no one would remember him as a great fighter or hugely influential to the sport.

Finally lets say that his wins were absolutely convincing and showcased a truely dangerous fighter. Well that isn’t the case both matches were fairly poor, even when he got the TKO to me it looked like he waited for the ref to restart the match and as he did he quickly punch allowing him to get the upper hand. Plus his opponents weren’t that impressive any way!

So right now he isn’t exactly hot property, I say (as did JP jr) stick him n there with a finisher like Vera then we will see.

I completely agree, And yes Forrest could very well get punished by Shogun, hopefully not as bad as Rich got it from Anderson. Anyway Yes Andrei needs a striker to shine. After one or two more knockouts he will be the man again.

great point. It also seems to be a double standard with Hughes last snore fest then his immediate title shot or franklins fight which wasn’t horrible but nothing to call home about. After they both get shots again?? I thought boring was frowned upon?? Not saying Andrei deserves a title shot after two wins but if thats what you tell him and the public and thats the precident you set with your other fighters then it’s only fair you show some equality. At very least I am sure you could find him a fight regardless.

I’m in the minority in saying AA is awesome. I think the second fight with Sylvia showed him he could get caught if he’s reckless and he’s been conservative since then. I don’t know why he blew it against Sylvia in the third fight. But since then he knocked out Cruz and he pursued a smart strategy against Werdum. If Dana White thinks AA has really lost something, then match him up against a top contender and let’s see who gets knocked down a notch.

I think Noguira is getting the winner of RC-GG. I’d really like to see AA get the title shot after that.

As for fighting Vera, I agree Vera was a top prospect last year. It’s almost been an entire year since he’s fought not just in the UFC but for any organization. He does not deserve a crack at Arlovski. A fighter always has a puncher’s chance and he could catch Arlovski, or Gonzaga, or Minotauro. He needs to re-establish himself. Give the guy a cupcake first fight back, then a solid class B, second tier guy. Those will be Vera’s two fights this year. In 2008 he’ll be ready for a shot.

If Vera fights Arlovski and Arlovski wins, people will probably still rag Arlovski. But if Vera wins, suddenly he jumps up to like #3 in the rankings.

I was juat about to write this, thanks for saving me the time. It does seem like if Arlovski would have got KOed he would be in the mix still? Werdum RAN that whole fight. Quite frankly after that fight, I wouldnt care if I ever saw Werdum again. It’s hard to chase someone that is running from you, and not even attempting to fight back. Werdum was in defensive mode that whole fight!!! What else could Arlovski do? He cant just stick his face out there to try to let Werdum open up. I do admit Arlovski sucked against Sylvia the last fight, bash him for that if you will, but dont hate on him for the Werdum fight. Werdum knew he lost that fight and with one minute left, the fight ended with him standing in the same spot! For a whole minute!!! That’s beyond horrible if you ask me. Arlovski deserves much more respect than people are seeming to give him at the moment. I have no question in my mind he will once again become the champion. IF GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY!

This is total b.s.. Dana is treating AA as if he’d lost his last couple of fights! He won. You didn’t think it was exciting? Well, everyone has an opinion. I was on the edge of my seat, knowing it only took one right hand to win the fight. If Dana wants to take back the title shot promise, fine, be a lying loser. But at least book AA against someone, millions of fans want to see him, and he has a job to do and a life to lead.

Regardless of who Arlovski fights next; that fighter is going to get wrecked!!!! I think Arlovski is fed up with the B.S. that Dana White is giving him and Arlovski will make a statement. I so hope Arlovski’s next fight is with Vera. Arlovski is going to destroy all the hype surrounding Vera and send Vera down to Light Heavyweight.

It’s great that they have all this talent at heavyweight now since they sucked the life out of Pride. Remember Dana White saying they were going to avoid the pitfalls of boxing and give the fans fights they want to see? Here we are on this board wondering who the hell Arlovski is going to fight next let alone if he is going to get another title shot in our lifetimes. Is Randy Couture really the top heavyweight fighter in the world or did he just figure out how to beat Tim Sylvia? I can’t envision Couture beating Arlovski. Not even if they fought 10 times.

I hope he tells Dana to get stuffed and goes to K-1 or Elite XC…He deserves bettr..In K-1 he could fight some quality strikers. I’d love to see Overeem come up to HW, he probably walks around at 235.

AA vs. Overeem. Or better still, AA to sign for Elite XC and Fedor to sign for Elite XC. The Elite XC will blow up and the Fertittas will go Mr. White you moron, your fired.

Or the final scenario, Andre goes:
“If I sign on again for another 3 fights I want a boxing match with Dana like Tito demanded.”

Dana would piss his pants and cry like a little school girl.

Andre Arlovski = Overrated

He was the champ when the top contenders were Paul Buentello and Justin Eilers.

Now that there is some decent talent in the HW division (still don’t have the top HW fighter signed), Arlovski can’t even get himself a fight.

I would love to see Arlovski fight Brandon Vera. That way the winner will get their much needed push toward the championship. And the loser, well, they can just shut up and sign with EliteXC for all I care.

Just because the top contenders were Eilers and Buentello, doesn’t mean Arlovski wasnt the man. He KOed Buentello before I even sat down on my couch. Vera has already owned 4 class B fighters. How many more does he have to beat to get a top guy? Vera deserves a top guy now. We have heard enough of ,who has he fought? and you think he should have to go 6-0 before he deserves AA. How is him beating two nobodies make him more deserving. Vera has way more than a punchers chance against AA. Beating AA proves he’s ready, Beating a cupcake proves nothing. Fights like CC vs Sanchez is a waste of a fans time and money.
