spencer fisher ufcSpencer Fisher has withdrawn from his upcoming lighweight bout with Din Thomas at UFC Fight Night 11 on September 19 because of a staph infection, according to a recent MySpace message from “The King.”

Here’s the snip:

“Hey everybody, I just want all of you to know that I am out of my fight in September with Din due to a staph infection in my knee.”

Fisher and Thomas were booked as the main event of the evening, pitting two of the top 155-pound figthers in the division up against one another.

No replacement for Fisher has been announced at this time. But one would assume that it will have to be a well-known name if he is supposed to be the other half of a nationally televised headline fight.

In other action on the Spike television network special, former 185-pound contender Mike Swick is slated to make his welterweight debut against Jonathan Goulet and Chris Leben and Terry Martin are scheduled to bang it out in what should be a hard-hitting middleweight clash.

Damn staph infection!!! I swear, this thing is becoming the plague of the UFC. First half the cast of TUF 4, then Diego, then Forrest, and now Fisher? It’s a shame, b/c I really wanted to see this fight. I wonder who will replace him?

This does suck. Its bad enough when a fighter drops out of any fight, never mind the main event. All I can think is ‘who will be the replacement?’ The first name that comes to my mind is Kenny Florian. But this event is just 2 months after his previous fight, where he put the smack down on Alvin ‘the chimpmunk’ Robinson, and came out rather unscaved. So it would be:

Florian vs Thomas with the winner fighting Joe Stevenson to find out who is the #2 contender. Then a match between that winner and BJ Penn for the belt. They can just go right to Stevenson/Penn for the belt, but since they have an opening in the main event of a nationally televised event, the UFC might as well make the most of it. However, if I was Florian, I would be a little hesitant at taking such an important fight at such short notice. Well, its still a month away, so its not too bad. But we’re talking about KenFlo here, and KenFlo is a freaking warrior. Given the opportunity, he would not let it pass him by.

I saw that fight. Nice transition into the the triangle, especially for a guy who specializes in Muay Thai.

I think they need to take better care of their gyms. It seems to me that this could be easily prevented by sanitizing the mats and such.

This is unfortunate. Spencer is a good guy; he seems real cocky, but deep down he is a straight up good guy. Fisher vs. Thomas would have been amazing, but hopefully a suitable replacement comes along. Hopefully we see the Fisher vs. Thomas match happen sometime in the UFC.

I just thought of a replacement opponent! Since we wanted to see Fisher vs. Thomas; how about the guy that gave Fisher all he could handle in his last fight? I think Sam Stout would be a suitable replacement. Anyone agree with me?

KenFlo replacing Spencer would be an even better main event. KenFlo IMO is much bigger name then Fisher. Besides, I dont like Fisher

heartless pussy? Have you ever watched Fisher fight? obviously not, because there is no doubt this guy has an assload of heart.

Sucks, I just hope we still see this matchup later on. Kinda sucks if they throw in a replacement against Din, because it wont give Din the respect he deserves in victory. Thomas should be moving up the ladder nicely.

What’s BJ doing Friday night?? Him and Dinn fought before and that was quite a match, let’s see what time has done for both of them. This would be old school 155.

This is very disturbing to me. Im definitly crushed because that was the only real fight with serious implications in its respective division. I feel extremely bad for Spencer Fischer who showed very solid boxing skills in his last appearance against Sam Stout. To see who would have gotten the better of the stand up against Din Thomas would have been exciting, and would have played a big part in the 155 class. Hopefully he doesnt fall to low in the ranks now as a result. Guys like Frank Edgar, Tyson Griffen, and possible**** Roger Huerta will pass him over with wins in their next respective matches.

Does Din Thomas who I have ranked overall as # 4 take on Kenny Florian ? Does Joe Silva feed him a walk over ? Either way another win should solidify him a top three guy.

Hell yeah i think that would be an awesome match-up. I think Stout would KO Thomas. Stout has great skills with a great chin it would be a great matchup. I hope this is the matchup they pick now that youve said something. Kenflo would be decent but now id rather see Stout vs Thomas.

You’re lucky, it drains you badly. It would be hard to fight 100% w/ a Staph infection, it drains your body of energy.
