“I’ve been trainin’ in my backyard with a banana tree that I kick and climb once in a while. I also have a tire that I lift and swing around. I watch a lot of Charles Bronson videos, and work out with Balki Bartokomous from “Perfect Strangers.’”

– Former UFC fighters Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Joe Riggs will fight in an October World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) middleweight bout to determine a number one contender for the title. “Diesel” actually confirmed the showdown via FightNetwork.com, but Miller’s response was a little more colorful. More on the WEC 185-pound championship picture coming very soon.

Hopefully Riggs finishes him off standing before the 2nd or else Mayhem takes it. Good luck to both. WEC is looking really good.

Joe Riggs will do to Mayhem what Robbie Lawler could not:

Riggs via K.O.

This fight is very similiar to Joe’s fight with Nick Diaz. Riggs will dominate the standup and control Mayhem on the mat.

I’ll be cheering for Diesel, but I think he’ll get choked out in the first round.

Does anyone else find the WEC middleweight division more exciting than the UFC one by any chance?

He doesn’t mean the actor that played Balki Bartokamos, he means he actually worked out with the character.

I hope Mayhem wins this one. Since I live in Hawaii, there’s sort of an emotional attachment we feel when fighters from Hawaii fight. I know that Mayhem was not born here, but he claims his new hometown is Kalihi, which is in downtown Honolulu. Watching him fight in ICON is great, but I hope he can make it at the next level. Good Luck Mayhem

Especially now that they have Filho. Its not a knock on the UFC by any means. Its just that Anderson Silva can not be beat by anyone who is in the UFC middleweight division right now. Unless Henderson fights there.

Hendo will stay at 205 from what I’ve heard..

But yeah the talent pool @ 185 in WEC is bananas like the tree Mayhem climbs.

I like the WEC for what it is- UFC minor leagues. The graphics for the show credits are great. The camera work during the show seems to be comparable to UFC events (maybe it’s the same crew?). The main announcer is fluid. Frank Mir is really sharp as a technical commentator while he’s calling the action, maybe even better than Rogan or Couture. Only knock on him is he still needs to work on the commentary before and after. I’ve seen him lock up a few times. I’d give him an A-/B overall so far.
The bad on the show is the talent level. Not with the top guys but you see some stiffs in the cage that look like TUF round 1 losers. Guys who get knocked out quickly with their hands down or give up their backs almost immediately. Perhaps they can put another organization below WEC- a class B farm league so they can pipeline up guys who really deserve to be there.
I recommend it giving WEC a try if anyone hasn’t seen it. Zuffa owns it so it’s not being disloyal to UFC. (I recommend all the other ones too though. I like it all).

Bastards. They keep putting on matches like Riggs vs. Mayhem and I’ll be officially addicted to yet another MMA organization. What they put on now is certainly solid, and Larson vs. Condit definitely has my attention, but Dana seems to be keeping his word in making WEC a serious organization in its own right.

Dana needs to worry more on the UFc, bedcause as of right now its not a finished product. 1st of all, y is one of the top 3 middle weights in the world (paulo Filho) fighting in the WEC, when the UFC middleweight division is thinner than kate moss? I like the WEC but come on, no way a top 10 fighter belongs in the WEC… Dana’s #1 Priorities should be beefing upo the talent in the LW and Middleweight division, than he should try to sign every single top 10 fighter in the world.

Has any one heard any rumors on the UFC signing? Gomi, Akoi, Kawajiri, Melendez, Ishida, Yoshida, Kang, Arona, Rogerio, Sokoudjiou, Mark Hunt, acacio, “Mach”, “Shaolin”, Misaki?

Anyone know if Nick Diaz will be back in the UFC, when his suspension finishes?

Dana and Matt Lindland need to stop being babies, put their egos to the side, and get a contract signed. Show lindland the money, y does Dana lowball top 10 fighters, he does it wit Lindland(to the point were Lindland hates the UFC). Dana tried to lowball Sokodjou (y?). Id rather see top 10 fighters getting heafty contracts, then a TUF winner gettin 6 figure deals. Makes no sense.

Bring back Pride!!!!!! at the very least keep the pride tournaments going!

Anyone have any knowledge about when new pride DVD’s will be released or when UFC 20 - 39 will be released on DVD? I know I can c all the fights on the Internet, but I am a serious collector of Pride and UFC DVD’s and my collection has come at a stand still because all the DVDs that r missing in my collection have been released only on Region 2 Dvd players.
There is no reason for releasing these Events on DVD in England and Europe before releasing them in the US.

If Mania or anyone else has any Knowledge on the releasing of Pride and UFC Dvd’s please let me know!

I actually like the idea of the WEC being the unofficial “farm league” of the UFC. I think it’s a great idea to have an organization to test up and coming fighters and to give down on their luck UFC veterans a place to brawl when they maybe aren’t up to the top competition, but still remain entertaining fighters people want to watch.

However, with the addition of Paulo and looking at the skill-sets of people like Faber and the rest of their “A” team fighters, it looks like Dana truly is trying to make it stand on it’s own. Understandable, but I just love my FREE MMA and hope that the WEC continues with the trend of televising the WEC events on Versus, rather than PPV.

Also agree with the earlier comment about Frank being a fantastic commentator. He may be questionable in the octagon now, but he has a really bright future outside the cage as a commentator.

The only Miller fight I saw was the fight against GSP. He showed almost no offense but he’s definately a crazy character and a tough dude.

Ha, yeah Frankie got submitted by the microphone again last night. He lost his train of thought in one of his pre-fight commentaries and his partner bailed him out. He still has some work there but DURING the fights he really stands out. I only recall one error during play-by-play the whole night (he said a fighter “gave up his back” but the guy was on his back and had let the other guy get a full mount). Mir’s strength is recognizing technique and thinking out loud during the bout.

I think they could use a third guy in the booth to help on the commentary. An old semi-retired fighter like Don Frye, Ken Shamrock or Bas Rutton. Unfortunately all the guys I can think of are coaching in the IFL.

I really hope Mayhem beat Riggs up. I truely believe the Mayhem belongs back in the UFC, especially since he is now fighting at 185. He got beat up for 3 rounds against GSP as a WW. The MW division is so lacking, and Miller has a ton of personality and charisma. He belongs. Sign him already.

There was a few blunders lastnight, the play by play announcer had like 3, the ring announcer dropped the cards and had another. Mir is doing a good job, but needs to stop sounding like he is reading from cards when he walks into the ring.

riggs has a vendetta, since he stepped down from his midleweight bout (there by forfeiting the title) to fight Chris Lights out Lytle in UFC.

I really think Riggs deserves this to prove hes on the top of the food chain and will always be an a- or so ufc fighter. Best of luck to Riggs though that guy fights like theres no tomarrow…
